  1. Where do you come up with some of this stuff? Where did anybody say Westview was bad? Everyone on here is saying this will be a good game. You say Obion County fans think they can win because we won a few games. Are you not doing the same thing because of what happened last year? Last year we were one dimensional. Patrick is an outstanding football player, who by the way is seeing playing time carrying the ball for Austin Peay as a freshman. Phipps has thrown for over 1400 yards and eleven touchdowns this season as a junior. Fair has carried the ball for around 800 yards and nine or ten TD's. They have great balance this season. If Westview can shut down the offense of the Rebs then I'll tip my cap to them because they've done one heck of a job. No OC fan thinks they've got this because we've won some games. You shouldn't think Westview has this one because of what happened last year.
  2. If I was an opposing coach and got tape on the Rebels game against Covington, I would run that off tackle play every time because we cannot stop it. It was eerily similar to the Sikeston game. You could almost excuse that one because Sikeston had three really good backs. Last night they let ONE player beat them. Granted he's a really good player, but we made him look like an All-American. He had 265 yards on the ground and would've had 150 more if not for some of the runs being called back on penalties. That's over 400 yards by himself! Unacceptable!
  3. UCGRAD you're exactly right in saying they couldn't stop Carlos Williams. He literally beat OC by himself. Covington ran the same play the whole second half and they never stopped it. The defense is absolutely atrocious! I don't know if they spend too much time working on the offense or what but something has got to change and now. At this rate the Rebel offense will have to score on every possesion of every game for the remainder of the season to win.
  4. Your half-hearted "complements" toward the Rebels. It's always a "congrats" or "good luck" but then you have to throw a little cheap shot at the end. For example in one of your previous posts it was "Good luck the rest of the way with the Rebs, you should win a game or two more..maybe". What was the need in throwing that in at the end? Unless your being sarcastic or throwing a cheap shot.If you don't think the Rebs will win many more games that's fine, it's your opinion and your entitled to it. But don't get on here and give little half-hearted complements when you really don't care.
  5. Your sarcastic posts get really old. If that's all you can ever say then don't bother.
  6. If I heard right, I believe UC had a little over 200 yards of total offense while the Rebels had around 330.
  7. The key to this game was the Rebels defense. They played outstanding! Held Union City to 21 total yards in the second half. Just an amazing effort. The Rebel offense had a perfect game plan with the short passes and letting there receivers get out in space. LaDevin earned every yard he got tonight. Just a terrific all around game. Also the Rebel crowd was terrific. Into the game from the word go and helped will the Rebels to victory. All in all not bad for "just another game".
  8. Great post ocucsf! You should be very proud of your son. Hopefully he can look back one day and say he was part of a team that changed the whole thought process of Obion Central football! Coach Jackson has done a wonderful job of promoting his team and making it a fun thing to do. The kids really seem to enjoy playing for him. I may not agree with all the calls that are made on the field, but who does? That's the great part of being a fan! We are very lucky to have a coach like him in our program and I hope he's in it for the long haul!
  9. P&G you nailed right on the head about what Coach Jackson said in the paper. As soon as I read it the first words out of my mouth were "Now I see why they played the way they did". If the coach doesn't believe you can win, then the players sure won't. That kind of stuff trickles down. You're also on the money about the defense. The first two downs they look pretty good. When it comes to third and fourth down it's like they can't remember what they did before and have a total breakdown. Maybe it's the change in defensive coordinators but I doubt it. But if they're not practicing in full pads that could be a major contributing factor.
  10. You nailed it right on the head rebelious. Great post! I can see not playing your quarterback both ways because of the offense you run. But everybody else is fair game. I know exactly who you're talking about on the kickoffs as I've seen him do it too. Teams are having an easy enough time moving the ball without giving them 20-30 yards of field position. The penalties are absolutely ridiculous. I said in an earlier post I don't know why after three years we're having the same problems but we are. These need to be addressed and apparently they are not. Nobody will ever take this program seriously until they start winning on a consistent basis.
  11. I have to disagree with you on something UCGRAD. Anytime you get a win over a rival, especially one that has had your number like Union City has had over Obion Central, then it is a big deal. I do agree that a loss here would set the Rebels back farther especially with the bye week coming up. I would much rather go in with a win even if it's not agaisnt one of the "big boys". You asked if Obion Central could stop Union City's run. With what they've showed so far I'm gonna say probably not. But Union City hasn't exactly been world beaters on defense either. The Rebels can score and score quickly and put up alot of points if they're not killing thereselves with the penalties you talked about. I agree 100% with you on the penalties. I don't understand it either. This has been going on for three years now. Why they can't correct this is beyond me. Without half of those penalties they are at worst 2-2 right now. Lots of questions-for both sides- going into this week. We'll get the answers in about five days.
  12. Didn't see that one coming- score wise anyway. I agree with you that it didn't seem like they cared to play today. Don't know if it was the early start, bus ride, or the game being on Saturday. It shouldn't matter because Cape had to do the same thing minus the bus ride. I really thought Obion Central was starting to turn the corner with the football program. There was considerable hype coming into this season and the school was fully behind the football team. Then a game like today happens and you wonder if Obion Central will ever be more than anything than a team that has a good season every now then. I hope they have the ability to bounce back quickly because Union City sure won't feel sorry for them.
  13. Well....... Glad they only think LaDevin is just a "decent" back.......May work out to the Rebs advantage
  14. The difference in the Defense from last week to this one was like night and day. Still gave up some yards but you're not gonna completely shut down a team like Crockett Co. If they contiue to improve on that side of the ball from week to week we're gonna have a really good team before it's over with. Most of these guys are underclassmen so they'll continue to get better. What are your thoughts on the Cape game? I know they'll be out for revenge for the way it ended last year with Patrick running for 70+ yards on the final play when the game was already decided. I didn't like that at all and thought it showed very poor sportsmanship. I remember Coach Jackson wasn't very happy about it.
  15. I agree with you 100% P&G. I told my wife I think that was the most dissapointing game I've ever watched as OC fan. They truly LOST that game. The penalties are very disturbing. I would love to know what all the personal fouls were for exactly. That has been a sore spot for OC for the past couple years and you would've thought they could take care of it but it just keeps happening over and over. Was dissapointed in the passing game. Looked nothing like the week before when we threw for 330 yards. Phipps is a much better QB than what he showed. What can you say about LeDevin Fair? He is just an outstanding talent. Really hard nosed runner and can see the field well. Tough game coming up next week. Really have a bad feeling about it going to SEMO. I hope it's not anything like playing in Kentucky with all of there mysterious calls. Rebels will have to both run and pass well and not kill thereselves with useless penalties.
  16. Final score from "Central Station" Obion Central-82 Bolivar- 51 Lady Rebels led 34-29 at the half before finally pulling away in the second half. If I'm not mistaken this puts the Lady Rebs at 23-3 (might be wrong on the wins). Next week they host Ripley on Tuesday night, have a HUGE makeup game at Westview Thursday before closing out the regular season with Senior Night agaisnt Dyersburg on Friday.
  17. This don't rile me up. Hate to break it to ya, lol. WesCharge already tried that and it didn't quite work. I think I riled him up more by him making a 100 line post, lol. I can't believe some folks on here are getting riled up over something that a Greenfield fan..........who has nothing to do with OC........said. I don't remember anybody saying that losing Aubrey Reedy wasn't a big deal because it was. I'm sure they had their reasons for moving. I believe everybody has moved on from that. Might as well because it is in the past now. She is an outstanding player for a very talented team. I believe the difference in OC this year is Coach LaRue. He seems to get them to play more of a team game. Plus he seems to be a master motivator. Last night they were down 1 to Milan at the half and then came out and put together a 26-0 run to start the third quarter in about three and half minutes. That was impressive! I think the Lady Rebels have proven they are more than just Chassidy Fussell. I saw during the preseason on here where most thought this was Gibson County and Westview and everybody else playing for third. I think they've proven that wrong as well. Hoping for a great finish to what has been another great season of Lady Rebel basketball!
  18. I too am very happy for Coach Shanks! Could not have happened to a better person or coach. He did so much for me personally when I was nothing more than a trainer/manager for Obion Central. Gave me rides home from practice and games and many more things I can't recall. Not many coaches would remember a manager he had on a team he coached ten years ago but he still comes up and talks to me and shakes my hand whenever I see him out. Great man and great coach! Congrats Coach! Danny Craddock OC Rebels 1997-1999
  19. Not sure what the Obion Central reference is about.
  20. TruMilanFan1, Still think it's crazy you have a name like that being a Westview player but whatever floats your boat. It was obvious Westview had a better team than OC did Friday night. Oc has not played in enough big games yet whereas Westview is established and has been in those wars before and it showed. I have yet to figure out why anybody would predict a blowout on OC's part. We are a much better team but not so good that we can predict blowouts over a team like Westview. That's crazy! Hopefully we can now refocus and win these next two games and possibly get a playoff berth. Congrats to Westview and great job defensively. If I had to pick a player to go to battle with it would be Haskins but y'all did a great job. Good luck the rest of the way.
  21. So basically your condeming all OCCHS fans because of what two people said? That's hogwash! I suppose you think that OC should be happy with a couple of wins every year and should roll over when teams like Dyersburg, Crockett Co, and Westview roll in? No sir. We have not had much success in our history but that does not mean we are content with just being competitive. We want to be playing meaningful games in October and November like everyone else. As far as the game with Dyersburg went, I don't see how it was any sloppier than any other game played. OC was the better team that night plain and simple. Dyersburg could not stop Patrick Haskins all night. OC's coaches made a great adjustment after the first drive of the game where Dyersburg ran it down our throats and kept Xavier Taylor in check. If you look at any of my posts concerning OC football I am realistic. We are a much better team than in recent years but we are no where near elite. I saw the Westview game coming. OC has not been in many big games whereas Westview is established and know what it takes to win in crucial games. OC has not been in enough of them yet. I think if Coach Jackson stays around (which I hope and pray for) that you will see Obion Central in the mix each year. Look at the strides from year one to year two. You Mr. Milam need to grow up. You shouldn't take out your frustrations on Obion County because your team is struggling. While you are 4-4, you should try going 0-20 without hope of winning most of those games. Now that'll try anybody's patients. Dyersburg kids did not look like they were having any fun out there. Dyersburg has won so much that they've taken winning for granted I believe. OC's players are having as much fun as I've ever seen them and it is showing on the field. Hope D'burg gets there ship righted, but lay off OC. (Danny Craddock- don't care if you know who I am)
  22. Nobody believed OC would beat Dyersburg. Most didn't believe they would beat Covington. Nobody thought they would hang around with Crockett Co. It doesn't matter what anybody outside the team thinks about them. They believe they can beat anybody and that's rarely been the case at Central. I attribute that to the coaching staff. Coach Jackson is the real deal and I hope and pray that he stays around a long time. As far as the game this week agaisnt Westview, it's gonna be a real battle. Westview is one of the best coached teams around. They came through that gauntlet at the beginning of the season a better team for it. There's no doubt that Patrick Haskins is one of the best players in West Tennessee if not the entire state. Everybody they've played has known he's gonna have the ball and nobody has stopped him yet. Could that change this week? Absolutely. The key is to have the O-line keep blocking like they have all year and Pat usually takes care of the rest. Our defensive coordinator has done a terrific job at making adjustments throughout the game and that's been a big a reason for our success so far. Should be a heckuva contest!
  23. What would be so remarkable about putting up 35 on Obion? They are improved defensively, for sure, but they haven't exactly shut down anyone. If the field isn't a quagmire on Friday night, I suspect the Trojans will score 35 or more. People seem to have forgotten that Dyersburg had a statistical advantage on Crockett County, which is an excellent team. Dyersburg actually gained 356 yards against Crockett, 296 on the ground and averaged 7.40 per rush. Dyersburg was on the Crockett 2 yard line and was turned back. Offensively, the Trojans had probably their best game of the year. Dyersburg should not be confused with Fulton County or Covington. Obion Central should not have been confused with Ripley or Raleigh Egypt.
  24. Advisor: Though I really don't care for your assesment of the Rebels, I do agree with you on one thing. Union City has dominated this series from the beginning. They have always had better athletes than Central. It never mattered until they lost five in a row to OC till the classification thing started coming up. Union City use to have a swagger when they played no matter who was in front of them from whatever classification. I don't like it being brought up because it never used to matter. As for you ucdiditagain, last nights game didn't take anything more out of Central than it did UC. That is not the end all for our season. Because our passing game was not good last night does not mean it's not good. Union City just did a good job of covering. Haskins has over 700 yards passing this season. He just does his damage mostly with his feet. You need to quit looking at things with those Purple&Gold glasses!
