  1. Congratulations to the Tornadoes. Overall I thought the game was kind of sloppy on both sides. Don't know if the viruses going around had anything to do with it or not. Six turnovers won't win you any football games. The Rebels wasted opportunity after opportunity to draw closer and couldn't do it. The OC passing game is better than what it showed. Several of our starting receivers are sophomores and juniors. They will get better though. Patrick short armed the ball a lot tonight. But anyway 2-3 looks a lot better than 0-5 from the last couple of years. The week off is needed. Hopefully we can get everybody over all this sickness going around and get healthy. We've got a chance to add a couple more victories on and start getting back to playing competitive football.
  2. 2006. 46-7 victory at Union City which was the last of five consecutive victories for OC. And NO they are not awful! Have you been to any of there games? I doubt it. The score was as bad as it was because of Union City having a short field to work with because of untimely turnovers and an interception returned for a touchdown at the end. Statistacally OC was as good as UC. OC quarterback Patrick Haskins finished with 256 yards rushing on 22 carries for the Rebs and both touchdowns. OC is now 2-3 on the season going into there off Week.
  3. Chassidy is a no win situation no matter what she does. If she tries to pass off to teammates and they don't hit then it's why didn't she take the shot? Or if she shoots the ball herself then it's she's a ball hog. And as far as taking 60 shots that is ridiculous. Maybe 30 but not 60.
  4. What does South Fulton have to do with any of this? /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> You're really digging for ways to cut at OC now. You are the one that needs to worry about the Red Devils. /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" /> If Coach J doesn't work out, please put in for the job next time. We could use somebody with your knowledge, /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
  5. Nice post /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  6. I have seen OC play more than you have this season. Coach Jackson has a great offensive mind. The problem within the OC program right now is confidence or a lack thereof. Coach Jackson has said in The Messenger that right now when one thing goes wrong this "here we go again" mentality sets in and I've seen it alot myself over the years. It took a whole season for things to get as bad as they have and it is not gonna fix itself overnight. As far as what he said at halftime, he wasn't off on that comment. UC's pass rush was effective, but there was several times Jackson had all the time to throw and was overthrowing his receivers. Those years he didn't play are catching up to him.
  7. Thoughts and prayers from Obion Central. Things like this show how small football is. Hope for the best and hope for him to be on the sideline soon.
  8. Because one player gets ejected you can't brand a whole team as dirty. I was at the game and in no way seen anybody trying to hurt anybody else. I'm sure there was alot of talk going on but I promise it was coming from both sides. As far as the push downs on Speed, it was right in front of the refs and the UC bench and if it was illegal it would've been called. Though the officiating was bad, it was equally bad on both sides. You need to quit being such a homer. I can give credit to UC for having a good game plan and making the adjustments they needed to win. You on the other hand cannot give credit to the Rebs for playing a good defensive game. All you can say is we have a terrible offense, and Coach Jackson is costing us the season by closing practices and not having scrimmages and ridiculous stuff like that. It is his team and I applaud him for doing what he thinks is best for the team whether or not anyone agrees with it or not. That's what OC needs. Somebody that says it's my way or the highway. The Rebs will get things goin sooner rather than later. Maybe not this year but it will come. It took more than a game to get in this hole and it'll take more than one to get out. I'll be there rootin' em' on regardless.
  9. I said he didn't make any calls and I really don't pay attention to what official does what during a game. Just a question. Wasn't accusing him of anything.
  10. I agree with the officiating. Horrible on both sides. I still haven't figured why UC was not allowed to retry the extra point after the false start and why OC was given a first down after a holding penalty. Maybe someone can enlighten us? And was Jere Baldridge one of the officials? I know he didn't make any calls but is that not a conflict of interest with him being in the UC Sports Hall of Fame?
  11. Yeah I heard the same thing about this may be the last time they play for a while. I would hate to see it since it is not so one-sided anymore But I do think it is not as exciting anymore. It's just kind of ho-hum now. Watching the game tonight brought back some old memories of the veer. You just about knew what was coming before it happened.
  12. Single A Double A I could care less. It's a rivalry game. Classifications mean nothing. As far as us going 0-10, it may very well happen. Don't even compare schedules. And yes It's difficult to go watch these boys play hard every week and lose and then have to read comments about it every time there is something posted about Obion Central. And if you'll go back and read through this thread you'll see where I got that they were gonna run wild.
  13. It is interesting that you left out the Rebels also had the ball deep in Union City territory and had nothing to show for it. And I also get tired of reading on every post you make about Obion Central goin 0-10 and how Coach Jackson is not doin things the "right way". It is his program to run and he can run it anyway he sees fit. I doubt closing a practice has anything to do with a win or loss. Obion Central has a KILLER schedule region and non-region wise. If Union City played the same schedule as the Rebels they would be lookin at 0-5 right now as well. I agree the offense did not look good, but there were several times there were receivers wide open that were overthrown. Union City was suppose to come in and run wild and score 50 points but they didn't. The Rebs played a great game defensively. I thought the Rebels were very physical. And one last thing about the Lone Oak game, they had there starters in. Just because you weren't impressed with them doesn't mean they're not capable of scoring points.
  14. Seeing as OC is a predominantly passing team, the rushing numbers are gonna show a mismatch. OC was still in the game at the point of the interception. SS scored on a 85 yard TD run after OC turned the ball over when they had first and goal from the two and first and goal from the seven when the aforementioned INT happened. If OC scores TD's instead of turnovers this game was much closer. Like I said before good teams take advantage of those mistakes and that's what the Hawk's did. Fortunately everything OC did wrong in this game can be fixed.
  15. I'm not sure where you were during the Chris Hill years but he threw the ball more than just here and there. Wes Moore in his three years as a starter threw for 6000 yards and 60 TD's. He would put it up anywhere from 25-35 times a game. I agree completely that they need to get better on D and improve in the red zone. And it's not like they didn't try to run the ball. South Side just stopped them in that department. Nobody is saying OC is gonna win the state title, we are saying they are improving. That is something they didn't do any last year.
  16. I don't agree at all. Yes they did drop those passes but OC had the ball at the two and seven yard lines on two different drives. You punch those in and you have a closer game. Football is a game about breaks and good teams like South Side take advantages when they get them. Also Central receivers dropped several catchable balls that would've been good gains and kept drives alive. I will say we won't see a team any better than South Side.
  17. ucdiditagain..... the Rebels have Lone Oak and Dyersburg before they even think about Union City. And as far as the offense being hard to sell..... Chris Hill started out 1-4 running the same kind of offense and I think you know the success he had after that. He went on to have great success with it including a 27-7 win over Union City at War Memorial Stadium. For the first game the offense did not look bad at all. They do need to work on defense and red zone offense. The score was not indicative of how OC played. They looked better offensively than at any point last year. And the no contact at practice thing was not a factor at all. I do believe the Rebels were better conditioned. Unlike last year we do have positives to take away. Yeager has a cannon for an arm and we have a good group of receivers who are gonna get better as the season progresses. This offense will catch on. That is seen in the number of kids we have out for football now.
  18. Well this is one Rebel fan who is not upset about Coach Jackson being an outsider. Like OCVol said his resume does give reason for excitement. Obion Central has had success running the spread offense in the past with Wes Moore throwing for over 3000 yards and 37 TD's in 2002. This sounds like what the new coach will run. But everybody is going to have to have patients. Like Coach Jackson said in the Messenger, it can't be built overnight.
  19. I have my opinions on whether they would've hired the best person for the job or not. I've heard rumors that that the A.D. thinks we should focus on the sports we can excel at. Obviously football is not one of them so you can draw your own conclusions. Obion Central is and I guess always will be a basketball school and I'm just afraid this may be all that we're gonna be soon. Nothing agaisnt the basketball program as I cheer just as hard for them as I do all sports at OC. I know alot of folks probably feel that we should be happy that anybody wants to coach us at all. But we don't want to have a team that wins 1 or 2 games every year just for the sake of having a football team. We wanna have a good competitive product on the field every week. That's what Coach Hill and Coach Bowling brought to the field. People couldn't just show up and beat us because we were Obion Central, they had to play hard for four quarters or they were gonna leave with a loss. It's my hope and the hope of all the fans of Obion Co. that the next coach will give us that.
  20. I'm probably going to take some heat for what I'm about to say, but I'm going to say it anyway. Mark Walton was not a good hire. Nothing personal agaisnt the man himself. And no I'm not one of the people that went and talked to him over the weekend and told him he was not welcome at OC. I would never do that. Whether or not I like a coach or agree with his style, I have always supported Obion Central 100%. And I'm also not one of these people that says it has to be Decker or Kendall or we don't want him. What I want and the MAJORITY of Rebel fans want is to have somebody that will at the very least have a competitive team on the field every year. Should this have been handled a different way? Yes,definitely! The thing I'm most tired of is the entire Obion Co. community being dragged through the mud by the actions of a few individuals. That's not fair. I wish Walton the best of luck in everything he does and I'm sorry his feelings were hurt over this. It's just hard for me to believe that out of 20-25 candidates that he was the best. Maybe if he'd of had head coaching experience or hadn't of been out of coaching for three years or hadn't of been at five schools in eight years while he was coaching, I'd of felt differently. Like i said I'll probably take some heat over this, but that's my thoughts. Whatever comes out of this mess, I hope Obion Central winds up with a good coach who wants to stay and get the program headed in the right direction.
  21. How crazy is that? The #1 and #2 seeds are playin in the consolation game while the 3 and 4 are playing in the championship. /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />
  22. I know exactly what you mean P&G. It is absolutely a mental thing with Westview over Obion Central. For some reason our girls tense up and play timid agaisnt Westview. I thought they may be over it this year after beating them twice in the regular season but apparently it's reared it's ugly head again for the Rebel nation. We have a state tournament caliber team for the second year in a row that may go out in the first round of the region.
  23. With Dyersburg's big win over Westview tonight, they're gonna have a lot of confidence.
  24. The Rebel Boys had something this offseason they haven't had in a long time- stability. Not having to learn a new system with a new coach will make a world of difference this season. Though they won't be back to the "Whitby days" as ucdiditagain referred to I think you'll start to see better play and them being much more competitive and possibly pulling out some wins people don't expect. If Coach Kail is left alone and allowed to coach his way, Central boys basketball will be something worth watching once again. GO REBELS!!!!!!!!!!
  25. It is a good rivalry. Coming into last nights game the series was tied 15-15 so Dyer Co. has a leg up. I hope you're right when you say the Rebels will be back. Years like this really make you wonder.
