  1. I'm not gonna argue about games played four and five years ago. I guess Dyer Co. got there "revenge" on the Rebels. Congratulations. See ya next year.
  2. The score of the 2002 game was 50-14. OC was up 43-0 at the half. Do the math. That means OC scored once in the second half. The 2003 game was Darren Bowling's first year at OC. As you know the offense he runs has very little passing in it, so I doubt there were three TD's passing in the entire game, much less the second half.
  3. I can go along with the onside kick being unintentional. I also understand about the younger kids trying to prove themselves. But when you have a 47-12 lead and go for two, it sure looks like you're trying to run up the score. Maybe that wasn't the case, but it sure seemed like it. I do remember very well the two games you're talking about from 2002 and 2003 where the Rebels won 50-14 and 63-13 respectively. I guess as y'all know it gets very frustrating watching your team get pounded week after week. Hopefully next year will be some better. One thing I would like to mention was the play of Zach Cavness. He is a sophomore who got the start at quarterback last night. Even though he threw five picks, he made some nice throws and wound up with about 190 yards passing which is by far the best we've had all year. Considering it was his first start as a quarterback on the varsity level, it was okay. He has a great arm and will get better with more experience.
  4. Look I don't know what was said or done on the field nor do I care. Things get said and done on a football every game that people wouldn't consider "classy". I know that OC was called for one personal foul penalty and Coach Driggers pulled the player out of the game immediately. They're are most of the time stupid, useless penalties but they happen at the highest level of football. Not condoning it, just stating my opinion. But what I would like to ask some of the Choctaw faithful is what was the point in throwing a long touchdown pass, going for two, and kicking an onside kick when the game was well out of reach?
  5. The key to Coach Bowling's offense is not letting the defense key on one player. He spreads the ball around well. He uses the fullback quite alot. It does get frustrating watching them run dive after dive after dive. But he does it for a reason. Everything works off of the fullback. He will stink the defense inside and then bust it outside with the speed sweep or the option. As Augileo pointed out, Logan is very deceptive with the ball. His freshman year agaisnt Trenton we ran an option play. Logan stuck the ball in the fullbacks gut and then pulled it out. The entire defense converged on the fullback and the referee blew the whistle thinking that the runner was down. Little did they know Logan was running with the ball down the field. That shows how deceptive the offense is when it even faked the referee out.
  6. It's not just Coach Bowling and Logan. It's the graduation of 16 seniors, many of whom were two and three year starters and an entirely new coaching staff. Add it all up and you get a bunch of inexpeienced players learning a completely different system.
  7. Your absolutely right about both teams heading in different directions. My congratulations go out to the Choctaws on getting there program going in the right direction. I know how hard it is to watch a program lose week after week (especially this year). You have to be a diehard fan or a parent to sit through some of those games. But when you can turn it around and win it makes it worth all the hard times you've had to go through. As for the game, at the beginning of the season I thought this was a very winnable game for the Rebels. Now though I just don't see it happpening. OC has went through as much this past offseason and on into the season as anybody I've ever seen. It shows alot about the character and heart of the kids still left. Maybe they can find a little something deep down and make a game out of this because God knows they need something good to happen.
  8. Congratulations to Union City. That's the best I've seen them look in a while. They're getting better because they're starting to do what made them successful in the past which was run the football. Best of luck to them the rest of the way. As far as the Rebels go, as much as I hate to see it happen, they're probably looking at 0-10. I knew it was going to be a rebuilding year, but I never thought it would be this bad. It's not a knock on the kids or coaches because they're doing the best they can. They just don't have the talent or experience right now. I would hate to see what it would be like if we didn't have Chase. He's having to do most everything and you just can't be successful depending on one player. They're making too many stupid unsportsmanlike conduct penalties as well and putting themselves in bad positions. The coaches need to address this problem and soon. Hopefully things will turn around and get better. P.S. Big props to Chase Clanton on the hit he put on Pat Polk. That was one of the hardest hits I've ever seen. Props to Pat Polk for coming back in having a great game after that. Lot of people would've called it a night after that one.
  9. I wouldn't say the passing game has been shelved, they're just gonna have to use a short intermediate passing game to move the ball through the air. They are going exclusively out of the shotgun. The only time the I formation was used was when they were inside the ten yard line.Like I said in my previous post, looked much better than the previous game agaisnt Southside. The Rebs are just gonna have to keep getting experience under the belt. If they can get these freshman, sophomores, and juniors to stick with the program, the future will be better with the Rebels. As for the Lone Oak game, I had heard he'd put up some big numbers in the first couple of games. Not sure what kind of competition he was goin agaisnt though. Hopefully the defense can play as well agaisnt the Purple Flash as they did in the second half agaisnt Ripley.
  10. Both teams did there scoring in the first quarter and a half. After that both defenses played very well. OC received the ball first and had about a five or six play drive before they had to punt. Ripley got the ball and scored on there second play on a TD run to go up 7-0. After OC couldn't do anything on there next possesion, Ripley scored once again to go up 14-0 and that was the score after one. On OC's next possesion they put together there best drive of the game converting on a fourth down to keep the chains moving and on fourth and goal from the three Mark Kissell plowed in to the endzone to cut the score to 14-7. Ripley returned the kickoff for a TD but missed the PAT to make the score 20-7. On the very next possesion for OC, a bad pitch on a option play gave the ball to Ripley inside the 10 and they scored another TD. They went for two but were stopped making the score 26-7. After that both defenses pitched a shutout. OC improved tremendously from the Southside game. The offense was much more consistent, but still have work to do. Chase looked pretty good at QB. The only thing is he doesn't have a very strong arm so the the deep ball is probably out of the question. The offense was pretty balanced between the pass and the run though. If they improve as much next week as the did this week I think they will get that first win agaisnt Lone Oak this Friday.
  11. I'll use common sense when you learn to spell it. I hope the way you misspell everything is on purpose because if it isn't someone needs to look into the school system you went to and start cleaning house. Obion Co. has won two region games apiece in the last two years. It was Covington and Dyer Co. in 2005 and Dyer Co. and Ripley in 2006. And no we did not make the playoffs. I still have yet to figure out why you care. And no I don't think my Rebels will win the region, nor have I placed a vote for any team. But just for you I'm going to vote for the Rebels.
  12. Who cares how people vote? Is the region going to be decided on how this poll turns out? No, it's not. You really need to get a life!
  13. People with attitudes like yours might give up, but unlike you Coach Driggers has alot of character and that attitude will rub off on his players. And as far as no playoffs in sight, we have been one game away the last two years from being in. It probably won't happen this year or next, but they'll still be out there every Friday night playing there hearts out.
  14. If you were a sophomore or junior that has never started a varsity game before, people might not think you were very good at all either. Trust me Obion Central will win some games this year. The biggest thing for them is to keep getting game experience. And the other thing is I wish they would pick an offensive set and one quarterback and stick to it. Switching from the I formation to the shotgun and Haskins to Heuck isn't gonna help them any. I think the best chance for them to move the ball is the passing game. The line seemed to pass block better than run block.
  15. Of course OC wants to succeed. It's not there goal to finish 5th,6th, or 7th every year. They have been one game shy of making the playoffs the last two years so they have been competitive. Even though they're in a rebuilding year I still look for them to be competitive in region play.
  16. Obion Central dresses approximately 56 players. That's including freshman.
  17. I said Hunter but I meant Patrick Haskins. He's the one that ran the 75 yard TD. I do like Coach Driggers. As far as the offense, just depends on which version of it they run. Coach Driggers has done alot of experimenting running out of the shotgun and out of the I formation. I think his plan is to run out of the shotgun putting Haskins at QB. Having Hunter,Patrick, and Chase on the field at the same time will help the offense quite a bit. The defense has alot of work to do. In the two scrimmages I've been to (Huntingdon and Westview) they've been big played to death. It's definitely a rebuilding year but as the season goes on and they get some more experience they should improve. Good luck to the Tornadoes (except for week 5 ). Had to get that one in.
  18. Chase scored on a 23 yard touchdown run. He had several other good runs. If I was guessing I'd say he probably had about 100 yards in two quarters. Hunter scored on a 75 yard TD run.
  19. Wasn't Logan the quarterback for the second team last night? The program had him listed as #8 and that is who was quarterbacking.
  20. Sounds like that defense is very strong in Charger country.
  21. What time is the jamboree scheduled to start? Also, what order are the games going to be played in?
  22. I watched until the second teams entered the game. The score between the first teams was Huntingdon 4 Obion Central 0. You are right about Huntingdon having alot of speed. OC's offense did look much better than the week before to me. They drove all the way to the five on one of there last series before losing the ball on a fumble. They are in major rebuilding year but they should improve as the season goes on. One of the good things about rebuilding is not much is expected of you so there's no pressure. Sometimes being able to play loose like that can help. I really liked how the scrimmage was set up. They played under the lights on the game field and used a set of officials. You can gauge things better that way than your normal everyday scrimmage. Anyways best of luck to the Huntingdon Mustangs this year.
  23. Ok thanks. So will they be putting it up in the air more?
  24. What exactly is the Troy State offense?
