  1. We used to have a Ham N Goodies in Maryville so I have had their lemon cookies. They are excellent! No need for an exchange on my part. I'm just glad to get to share a few of the pleasures of being a proud native of Blount County.
  2. I was going to update the picture with a Bread of Heaven box over the book. But, I think I will leave photoshop to the master. If you can manage to get some Bread of Heaven BBQ for FBD I will make the trip to Eagleton for some donuts before they close. If we could get a couple of hot dogs from the Bungalow Market it would be a good start on a culinary tour of Blount County.
  3. I would also recommend Richey-Kreme Donuts. It is a small little shop on Old Knoxville Highway across from Eagleton Little League. You may want to check their schedule as I think they close up in the afternoon. On second thought, I will check it tomorrow and get back to you.
  4. The first time was because of rain on Friday and a band competition on Saturday. The final regular season game was moved so we didn't have to play on Halloween. This past week was also to beat the rain. I don't really like the Thursday games but it does allow me to catch two games a week.
  5. He came back for the BBQ at Bread of Heaven. APB, are all of the Thursday games messing with your Friday meetings at BOH? Back to football. Will the key to Alcoa stopping, or slowing down, CAK's passing attack be coverage or pressure? Alcoa's front four gets a good push and Womac may have a little extra motivation after getting the touchdown taken away at CAK. Alcoa has also had alot of success when bringing Robinson or Toney off the edge.
  6. Rae Sykes played most of the championship game at tight end. I think Dossett may have gotten a couple of snaps. Robinson played primarily special teams. I'm old too so I hope I am remembering correctly.
  7. Alcoa has had more kids than we would like that have had problems qualifying. I have been assured that the administration is doing what they can to address that situation. However, there are also other very good students that play football at Alcoa. I don't know about everyone in the upcoming senior class but I do know that we had one score a 30 and another that scored a 34 on the last ACT test. That is pretty strong for a school that has the reputation of playing kids with horrible academic standing.
  8. Dustin's mother told me he was there practicing but he was going to redshirt. I don't know if that would have any effect on being listed on the roster. At the time that I talked to her he was practicing at RB.
  9. I believe it was 55-3 but I'm getting old and my memory isn't what it used to be. Congratulations to the Rebels on another win. Good luck next week in your rematch with Powell.
  10. Alcoa scored five defensive touchdowns. Lindsey didn't even play enough to get sweaty and still had two scores. Shiverdecker had two carries and still hasn't been tackled. Alcoa was substituting liberally midway through the first quarter and was still putting up points with the subs. One defensive touchdown was scored on an interception by a freshman and another was scored on a fumble return by a senior that has never played football. The last touchdown was about an eighty yard run on a toss sweep by a sophomore. Unless Alcoa started playing cheerleaders the scoring would have continued. G-P was just way overmatched in this one. If I hadn't seen the game in person I would assume Alcoa ran it up intentionally. But, it was just one of those nights where everybody that Alcoa put in was making plays. As another poster said, you can't put in a kid that doesn't get alot of playing time and tell him to take a knee to keep from scoring.
  11. As an Alcoa fan I was very impressed with the Huntingdon team in the Championship game. With the skill players Huntingdon returns they should be in good shape. Best of luck to all involved in the Huntingdon program.
  12. With some of the licks I saw this weekend I would have to say it definitely looks like the turf would be more painful than grass. Especially if the turf is layed over hard surface. What is under MTSU's turf? On the other hand, playing the games at one location gives football fans the opportunity to see as many of the championship games as they want. I like that part of it.
  13. Why don't we hang signs at the Blount County Line that says something about 15 State Championships Maryville - 8 Alcoa - 6 Walland - 1
  14. It is the same Richeon Bell. I talked to his dad last night after the game. He said the OR coaches told him he was too small to play football. Maybe he is but he has come up big for Alcoa all year. Sometimes the size of a guys heart matters more than the size of his body.
  15. I found info on the history of the school on the school system website, www.alcoaschools.net. When the Aluminum Company of America and the Babcock Company moved into Blount County, they planned on building a city. They knew that without good schools, their city would not be successful. So they gave much thought, land, materials, and planning to the education of the citizens. In 1916, the Babcock Company built Vose School, which was the first school in the city of Alcoa. Because of segregation, a one room school for black students was also built in 1916. A remodeled mule dormitory called the Mule Barn was the second school for the city. The Springbrook School was completed in 1921 and put into operation as the first home for Alcoa High School. Bassel School was then built and opened in 1923. During this time, the second floor of the commercial building on Hall Road had been the only school facility for black students in Alcoa. The Charles M. Hall School was completed and operational in 1926 to provide educational facilities for black students. After closing in 1970, the Charles M. Hall School became the home of Alcoa Middle School. Springbrook School housed the Alcoa High School students until Alcoa High School was opened in 1939. The new Alcoa High School, which is adjacent to the old building was opened in 1964. After fire destroyed the Springbrook School in 1968, the new Alcoa Elementary School was built and opened in 1971. Through the years many changes have taken place. New schools, new ideas and new technologies have made the Alcoa School System one of the best in the State of Tennessee.
  16. Thanks for the info Blue Eyes. Alcoa was originally a mill town named after the company. The Aluminum Company of America. Not sure when the first football team was fielded but I think the school was started sometime in the thirtys. I'll have to do a little research.
  17. After giving it some thought, I suppose I do understand that Krystal burgers would be the "piece de resistance". My wife is from Blytheville, Arkansas so I have made the journey through West Tennessee on the big I-40 several times. Please pardon my ignorance and pass me the turnip greens! Just curious about the name Huntingdon. Was the town named after some guy named Don that enjoyed hunting. Given that this is Tennessee, wouldn't it have been named Huntin-Don instead of Hunting-don. Just curious. Please don't take offense to my poor attempt at humor. Again, best of luck. thumb
  18. I just caught up on the 5 pages that were posted since I last logged on and found less than 10 posts about the game. All we got is some guy getting excited about getting to eat at Krystal and some kind of family feud between you West Tennessee teams. Glad to see you guys are having fun. Good luck to both teams tomorrow night. I hope that all fans will have a safe trip to the game. Go Tornadoes! Go Falcons! Go Rebels!
  19. Lindsey played four quarters both ways last week and had plenty left at the end. As some of the younger players have developed he has been given the opportunity to rest on some defensive series. Good question but I don't think it will be an issue. Do either of Huntingdon's running backs play both ways?
  20. I've been watching Harriman play Alcoa for the past couple of years. Harriman has some good athletes and should be competitive in single A. I expect Greenback to be down some so Harriman should be competing for the region title with Midway. Best of luck to you!
  21. Bringing the whole family down on Friday to watch the Tornadoes as they try to dethrone Huntingdon. Go Tornadoes! My son and I will stay over and watch Saturdays games. Rootin' for Fulton and Maryville to make it a trifecta for East Tennessee!
  22. This post was made by an earlier opponent. I hope it answers your question.
  23. Good discussion guys. It sounds like two similar teams other than Alcoa's ability to throw the ball. That might be the difference. I am looking for a great ballgame. As with most big games, the team that makes the fewest mistakes usually wins. Good luck to both teams. I was lucky enough to play against one of your west Tennessee teams in the, I'm giving away my age here, 1979 Class A State Championship. We played Lake County at Alcoa. Lake County was definitely a physical team. Alcoa was able to come away with a 13-9 victory. Not trying to live in the past but it was definitely a highlight.
