  1. Hmmm! Let's see---which of the last several years DB teams have actually won a playoff game???--Oh, that's right----last years! You remember-----the team no one gave a chance to---that lost 3 or 4 games early in the season but played hard and lost really close games. Perhaps those games made them better??? Perhaps the team developed character??? Perhaps they were better???? 10-0 seasons, number one ranking---I don't think so.
  2. Unfortunately, Science Hill enjoyed much of the same this year. As usual, loads of talent and nothing to show for it. Am I the only one who feels this is deja vu all over again....and again...and again. Is the goal every year to beat DB or is it to develop a winning program???? Coach Smith made an immediate impression-----was that immediate impression borne out in the results this year???? Who made the hiring decision?? Are they pleased???? Are the administrative folks happy ---did they get what they wanted?? Kids need to understand what it takes to be winners-----talking doesn't get the job done. Parents have some responsibility in the scheme of things too. They basically need to support the kids, coaches, etc and leave it at that. Too many parents decide to go ahead and pretend they are coaches too, that they have somehow gained some insight about which kids need to play and where---and ultimately we all know where that ends up don't we?? I have an idea---quit bitching, find a coach who is a proven winner, support the kids and for a brief moment, act like an adult. In a few years nobody will care anyway! It's supposed to be fun.
  3. Wow----I just heard DB has decided to go ahead and forfeit---all the sports experts have not given them a chance and the Farragut folks seem to be unanimous in their belief this won't be a game. So, I guess the DB players have decided to just save the time and maybe stay out of the cold. This may also save them the embarrassment of trying to stop Tony Dorse... er I mean Sterling and the 5 or 600 yards he is certain to rush for. Oh well, there's always next year I suppose.
  4. Great game----both teams fought hard. DB made the big plays which is something that had been missing a lot this year. Defense gritty as usual. This defense has played as well as any DB team in recent memory. Linebackers may not be the biggest LB corp but they play well together. D line also played well. DB was seriously outsized but plays with a lot of heart. Flew around the ball and gang tackled. Punt downed on the 1 yard line was a big play---even thought Oak Ridge went the length of the field a lot of clock was used up and then the defense stepped up to seal the win. As long as the defense continues to play well they will stay in the game. Congratulations to Oak Ridge on a good season----good luck to the Tribe----don't count them out! Roll Tribe!
  5. Don't see Greeneville staying with the Rebels in this one. Too much Curt Phillips. For all those who have questions about him I would suggest you simply go watch, sit back and enjoy. Occasionally you simply need to give a person his due!
  6. I heard not many players shook hands either----I was told #18(?), #79(?) and maybe one other player actually congratulated the Bearden players. Probably just too devastated?? As far as the defense is concerned it appears defense isn't the issue. I have heard certain positions are small and so forth but they apparently didn't allow a score in regulation? I guess from the sound of things I would be more concerned about scoring ----points allowed doesn't seem to be the problem for this team!
  7. 84, 64 who cares?? How many games has he pitched? Oh, I know----none!
  8. Well the best advice I can offer is to shut it down and let the games begin. All this hype means nada. DB was supposed to be great last year and lost their first game to North! The fact is DB has been very good for the last couple years-they have had an outstanding record--just simply got beat by a better team (Halls). And, yes, when you start replacing kids like Brantley Kilgore, Ben Allen, Cory Wright, Duran Ferguson (all of whom signed D-I scholarships)who have been a key part of that team for the past three years then you do have some big shoes to fill. I wouldn't expect kids to have the kind of year Kilgore had his junior year or Trent had last year. Those kind of years just don't happen that often----it's a lot harder than you think. This bunch has been gone on and on about----I have an idea-----just let em play---heck, they may not even get out of the district----who knows????
  9. Kingsport Times News reported Dobyns Bennett's Brantley Kilgore, corner infielder/pitcher, signed at Tennessee Tech 4/19/05
  10. Why is everyone so consumed with this sophomore vs. upper classmen deal??? I thought the object of the game was to win! Does it really matter---the last time I looked it took several kids all doing their part to have a winning season. Enough already! Give it a rest and let 'em play
  11. I suppose the All State teams will be announced soon-----what is everyones thoughts regarding those named to Division I AAA team across the state. I am more familiar with the Northeast Tenn teams---according to Kpt Times News (All Northeast Tenn Team) and Johnson City Press (Super 22 Team) the following kids would appear to be deserving. Matt Spencer-Morristown West--hit .519 with 13 2b's, 17 hr's and 52 rbi's. Also was 6-2 with era of 0.91 with 97 strikeouts in 46 innings. Matt McGahey-Science Hill--hit .452 with 8 2b's, 9 hr's and 44 rbi's. Also was 8-1 with era of 2.02. Brantley Kilgore--Dobyns Bennett-hit .482 with 12 2b's, 4 3b's, 2 hr's and 48 rbi's. According to Johnson City paper Kilgore had 66 hits for the year. Also was 8-2 with era of 1.80.
  12. Dobyns Bennett may not make it out of the regional but I wouldn't count them out just yet. I have watched them several times this year and they are a very resilient team with a lot of fight. According to the paper they have won something like 18 of their last 20. They have a deep pitching staff and most of them are back next year. I saw the conference statistics in the newspaper and Brantley Kilgore(DB) and Matt McGahey(Science Hill) dominated almost all the categories. Kilgore and Ben Allen are back next year along with a number of other starters. In the game last night v. Science Hill Ferguson simply threw it by everyone for 3-4 innings.
  13. District I AAA Dobyns Bennett defeats Science Hill 8-5 in winners bracket to improve to 28-9 on the year. Ben Allen came on in relief to hold Science Hill at bay. Brantley Kilgore goes two for three with a double. In losers bracket South comes back to defeat and eliminate Tenn High 5-4. Science Hill and South will play Wed night in an elimination game with winner facing Dobyns Bennett Thursday.
  14. thanks for the information--sounds like a class event
  15. Don't look now but there may be visitors to the mountain--
  16. Anybody got any information on who is coaching the Jr. Sunbelt team this year and how to contact them??
  17. Dobyns Bennett won 9-4 clinching second place in the conference. I believe South finished third. Science Hill clinched first. DB will play Boone I believe and South will play East. Not positive about that though---3,4,5 and 6 teams are all pretty close.
  18. Science Hill wins 3-2---McGahey goes the distance to put Science Hill in firm control of first place. Brantley Kilgore went 4-4 for DB driving in both runs including a drive high off the wall in left in the seventh inning which would have tied the game. Kilgore was left standing at third when McGahey got a ground ball to end the game.
  19. Don't know about the broadcast----McGahey has won I think 6 games this year. Ferguson has maybe won 3----Kilgore has won 6 and the Allen kid maybe 5. If DB pitched Ferguson they are pitching their number 3 or 4 starter.
  20. Kingsport Dobyns Bennett is 23-8 on the year-second place in the Big 7 with a big game scheduled v. Science Hill next week, I think. I'm told Brantley Kilgore is hitting .500 and according to the newspaper he has also won 6 games or so on the mound. Ben Allen has also had a solid year for DB. I believe they will have almost everyone back next year.
  21. Science Hill is in first place in the Big 7 Conference with only 1 loss---Dobyns Benntt and Sullivan South have 2 losses each. Tennessee High is also pretty strong. Science Hill is probably still the team to beat especially with McGahey on the mound. Dobyns Bennett is loaded with juniors though. The Kilgore kid at DB is quietly putting up some pretty impressive numbers--every time I read about DB he has 2 or 3 hits. It is my understanding he is hitting over .500. I'm told they have some good talent coming up as well. I have followed this conference for a number of years and it continues to be very competitive. There are always a good number of DI signees.
  22. I understand the Kilgore kid at Dobyns Bennett is batting over .500 with 6 doubles, 3 triples and 1 home run with 25 or 26 rbi's in 15 games or so
  23. I think Brantley Kilgore at Dobyns Bennett has 27 in 14 or 15 games
