  1. Both sides' goalies did... and I had heard (though this isnt factual, but rumor) that the refs got in trouble by FIFA for it.
  2. The Ref, I believe that as the level of competition increases and the maturity of the players increases, the spirit of the game should be given more and more weight. At the high school level, despite what the players want to think, thier maturity and level of competition is low enough that you should still call a very detailed style of play. Dot your I's and cross your T's. As you referee levels of competitions at a higher college level and various professional levels, the spirit is given more weight and you can expect the players to respond better. The fact is, in high school sports, if you allow a foul to one team, whether or not they keep possession or play is unaffected, they will interpret (incorrectly, but still the same), that this is acceptable by your terms. Judgement calls should be at a very minimum at lower levels. There is a rule against jewelry that is strictly enforced at young ages, but is rarely enforced at professional levels. Why? Jewelry has no effect on balls skills and giving one team an unfair advantage. This is a very basic example of how the spirit of the game changes based on skill level and maturity, but it still holds truth. "3 rekicks is a lot to take. First, Distraction is out because it is just as distracting to move legally side to side as it to move out. Second, missing the goal to the side or over the top is not affected by the keeper jumping off his line and there should be no retake (trifling offense by the keeper). Third, if the keeper jumps out off his line a gross amount more than once, it should probably be handled with more than a rekick." That is a lot of opinions to be had on one play. Do you tell each team before each game how many rekicks is a "lot"? Do you tell each team before each game what you consider to be distracting? What about yelling? Coughing? Shaking hands around? Mean faces? Do you tell each team before each game how jumping off the line will be handled? Rekick (unless it is over 3)? Yellow card? If you do, then I think your fine, but if you don't there is too much ambiguity.
  3. Noone said that. You are jumping to conclusions there, buddy.

    9-AAA

anyone have more details on the lavergne-wilson central game? Who controlled it? Lavergne just got done winning vs Wilson Central 3-0 at the end of the year... what was different?
  5. wow, good call whorundis So how did the game go? Was it a very hard-fought battel mostly even, but HHS capitalized; or did HHS dominate mainly and Smyrna get a late one? I want details
  6. District Tounrament is currently being played. 4 teams were eleminated already so right now the brackets look like this. Smyrna v Galatin H'ville v Mt Juliet Winners play winner, then there is a district tournament. Both Smyrna and H'ville were #1 seeds b/c our district was split into north and south

    18-0

6-0 and playing keepaway is by no means more embarrasing because when people ask you what the score was, you can save you face a little bit by only saying 6-0. 18-0 is ridiculous. I have been beaten 17-0 my first year of travel soccer, it was my whole teams first year. The closest game that tourney was 5-0 by the team who ended up winning it all. I think I remember Oakland winning a game 21-0 last year. I agree with the originl poster... What is gained from this?

    ...

Wow, Tennessee is representing well so far... Yu say there are 17 states which play mens soccer in spring and 4 of top 25 are from TN. Does any other state have more?
  9. Well, I had a game at 6:00 and it ended at about 7:30 and I headed straight to the Blackman-Smyrna game so I caught about the last 30 minutes. From those 30 minutes, I saw Blackman controlling the ball a little more, but without any really opportune scoring chances. Most of it was played in the midfield. Smyrna realied mainly on a quick, strong counter-attack during this time. The 30 minutes I was there resulted in a 0-0 tie which lends me to believe that Smyrna had both of their goals in the 1st half or very early 2nd half. And like someone said earlier, it was poor officiating somewhat. Besides this though, there was some pretty brutal tackles which were called and carded, but a lot of smaller, yet obvious fouls were not being called.
  10. Who had Hendersonville's goals? And was it a typical 2-0 game or what?
  11. 3-1 lebanon wins This was wellfought battle by both teams. 1-1 at halftime and in the 2nd half both teams got a red card. After it became 3-1. Both teams easily coulda/shoulda scored 3 or 4 more goals, but we just didint capitalize on everything. I supopse Lebanon just capitalized on 2 more than us kip #18 CM LaVergne
  12. smyrna=2 blackman=0 thats the final. [Edited by kakemono on 4-24-03 8:57P]
  13. After playing Oakland, I would say that they easilyhave the most speed in Rutherford County. The #2 Centre midfielder is deceivingly quick. I could not believe how fast he could run, he does not appear to be a quick player. I actually thought it was 7-0, but i suppose 7-0 is a negligable difference from 8-0. I just don't comprehend how Oakland was beaten 2-0 to Blackman. Oakland seemed on par with Blackman. Of course jojo is right, it was our 4th game. That could be a factor. 14. I have noticed much confusion on these boards which has resulted in some people attacking others when they think one person goes here or is someone who they are not. I know the screennames are here for a reason of privacy so join if you may, or refuse if you may, but I would just request one thing. Please don't bash players in this post. Kip Nickell LaVergne High School #18
  15. I don't know about these guys being the "BEST" throw-in takers, but we run our corner kick runs for 3 poeple on our team. It also helps when you have a 6'8" player going for the headers
  16. I think that Paul is too much of a physical presence for Blackman in the centre midfield for Smyrna to have much penetration or control of the centre of the field. Especially as far as 50-50 balls are concerned. By playing both of these teams, I think the game will end 2-2, unless there is a PK, and whoever gets the PK will win 3-2. When we played Blackman, there was a couple times in the back where their ball control was a tad shaky. Yes, Blackman is a very excellent team who rocked us 5-0, but so did Smyrna, and I think that Drew will be able to capitalize on a small mistake like that, wehre we didn't. I think the game in the midfield is what will determine much of the game, as I think Smyrna's outside midfielding crew is a little stronger that Blackman's, but the Blackman inside is stronger. With Blackman controlling the middle, I think they will get some good through balls to #7 for Blackman. If there are no PK's I will predict a 2-2 tie. Don't you love those neutral predictions. 2 goals for #7 from Blackman 1 goal from Drew #11 for Smyrna, and 1 goal off a cross. 2-2
  17. "let the big men talk about soccer and you just listen." I hope you are not implying I am an everyday rec-turned-wannabe high school player... I have played travel ball with most of Smyrna's and Blackman's team since I was 10. Just ask them. I mainly played with 85' Strikers, which were no joke of a travel team.
  18. Riverdale-3 LaVergne-0 The game was 0-0 for 62 minutes. Ball was about 55-45 on Riverdale's side of the field. Riverdale got some good, late goals. Good Game Riverdale. After playing Riverdale, Blackman, and Smyrna, I would have to say that Smyrna has the best players, but Blackman has the best teamwork. I don't think that Riverdale is on the same level as Smyrna or Blackman even though they tied one and lost by one goal in the other. I know that Travis is gone and they had another really good player. Also their best striker was playing goalie, so this would have to factor in, but in the condition which we played them, I think smyrna and blackman sit atop Rutherford County.
  19. I would not say that this person would be wellknown because on a very good soccer program, you, hopefully, will not need a goalie which makes lots of saves. I would think that it would be some obscure goalie from a small school which loses badly every game. Why? Because it would be like shooting practice vs him. Not to knock on your thread, but would the save percentage be more representative.
  20. "I have talked to a friend of mine from Riverdale and he said that they scored from 60 yards out on a freaky free kick that the sucky goalie from smyrna did not even get, then smyrna scored two lame goals from offsides on a header from #8 and a shot from the 3 yard line almost missing the goal from #11. Officiating was bad as usual missed most of the calls including the two offside calls that gave smyrna the win.Awful calls just awful!!!!" First, when someone loses, they tend to exagerate and make things sound stacked against themselves. They tell everything one-sided. I could tell all kinds of excuses for losing to Smyrna like... there was a really bad miscommunication between the refs which resulted in Smyrna's 1-0 halftime lead, then they got a 'lucky' goal which bounced of a defender then tip the goalie's finger barely to squeeze in underneath the crossbar for a goal. Then we saw the score was 2-0 and we had 3 more games so we started pulling some of our starters so we would be rested for the next 3 days. But the fact is: WE LOST, SMYRNA WON. In my post, I said good game. They lpayed awesome and clearly outplayed us on the field. Just remember that people have a tendency to make themselves look better. Have you ever stood on the sideline and seen a goalie pick up a ball where, from the sideline, looked WAAAY out of the 18? You say #11 almost missed a 3 yard shot, but he scored. Could, based on their angle of sight, someone from Smyrna say that it was an awesome shot from the Penalty area which struck the corner of the goal. Yes. I also just read that the shot was more like 35 yards out because he was inside the halfline. This shows that your "source" is not accurate already. I'm sure someone from the Smyrna team has said that that "freaky" free kick ws luck. Just think about what you say before you say it please.
  21. I would suspect they will be playing those teams.
  22. Rutherford County tournament... I am from Lavergne High and I was wondering... we play smyrna, oakland, riverdale, and blackman. Right. Isn't Eagleville in our county? I may be geographically challenged but I was just wondering. If so, do they not have a soccer program there? On to predictions. I'll keep it safe and leave my team out of it since I will be playing. (Lavergne) Smyrna Blackman Riverdale Oakland The top three are the hardest to pick from. They are evenly matched across the board, it just depends on who is ready for the game more. I'm not sure about Oakland.
