  1. I don't know why you think Warren County could possibly do anything. They are 2-58 in the district the last 4 years. That is just about the saddest thing I've ever heard.
  2. This makes me queasy. All of these apologists for a coach that has NEVER won on the high school level. There is NO way someone would be allowed to continually fail at thier job anywhere else and they would keep said job. NO WAY!! I love her as a person. As a coach, just not getting int done. yes, the talent on the tema may be lacking. There IS talent in the county. Some at another school, some walking the halls. Why are they not playing? One reason. It is NOT a work hard issue. It is a likability issue. Some of my coaches who worked me harder than any were the coaches I would have done anthing they asked me to. Therre are times when you ahve to cal a spade a spade and this is one. It is time for a change. Phargis has some great idedas on another thread, but they aren't happening until a change is made at the top.
  3. Neither team is getting great coaching. I really don't see how you can read title ix into this. Also, I am in no position to do anything about this. I'm an observer and a fan. No kids playing, no friends coaching, just a Warren Countian worried about the direction or lack thereoff with our sports.
  4. PH, man, you keep finding excuses. Now it's Title ix. Come on!! Put blame where it belongs. Most coaches are given 3 years, 4 at the most to tuurn things around. That time is past here n WC. Face it!!
  5. PH, I wonder why you are such an apologist for WC's coach? Yeah, she's a nice person, blah, blah. I wonder about the kids' best interest. Wouldn't going to college be the best intereset of the kids? Also, she's had a FEW years and then some, isn't it time to try something new? Try asking the hard questions and maybethe answers will schange.
  6. I'll give you Cookeville and 15. I would have won that bet against Siegel, I'll win this one too.
  7. NO WAY this game is that close. I'll take Siegel and give you 20 points. WC has been beat by 2!! AA teams, 2!!! There is NO WAY they hang with Siegel's JV, much less their varsity. A little advice, press WC, they have NObody with handles. NObody!!
  8. I will agree. Warren County did look more like a team on Tuesday night. Why do you think this is? What is it that makes these guys look like contenders on one night and then pretenders the next? Who is the leading scorer so far? To be honest, it looked like Reese (I know he was the leading scorer) just doesn't have his shot going. Why didn't the big kid (Nunley, I think) play more. It seemed he only played about 3-5 minutes and he had 8 points and a few rebounds. I just can't seem to get a feel for this team. I can't figure out who is going to be the go-to guy after Reese. Also, it seems they wear out toward the end. This is something I have not seen much before. Was their training changed or what? I know it's early, these are just some things I have wondered about while watching a couple of the games.
  9. This is the first time I have seen the football team equated with the girls' basketball team, but you do bring up an interesting point. Obviously, football is worse, I know that. However, it does seem that there is more talent playing for WC's girls team than what their record and results would show. There are a couple of girls who can play on this team, mainly Leann Pelham and Leah Cunningham right now. It seems like the Cornelius girl and Tia Williams don't get as many touches as they should. Good things happen when they touch it. Whitney Pelham's injury really hurt this team. That leads to another question: what is the deal with the knee injuries on this team. Obviously, something is wrong when 5 or more girls are having the same injury. What's the deal there? hoop, it always seemed that you were from Warren Co., now you say "what's going on down there".... What's the deal with that?

    7AAA

    1) Blackman -- no one can match up with their three guards 2) Lebanon -- athletes + Keil = an impressive combination 3) Riverdale -- would finish higher, football always hurts their basketball 4) Oakland -- loss of Barker and Duggin will hurt more than people think 5) Warren Co. -- Bishop can only carry them so far 6) Siegel -- young talent is still talent 7) White Co. -- great shooters just getting better 8) Cookeville -- effort can only get you so far, there is very little talent here What do you guys think?
  11. Does Warren County have any scrimmages coming up or already happened? I'm anxious to know how the new coach is doing and how the players are picking up his system.
  12. Reese is a wonderful player that will begin to get his respect throughout the season. I wonder where Gomab has him listed. Warren Co.'s AAU team played the Ballerz according to their website. He has seen him but he doesn't have him on his top 30. He should be in the top 15-20. The only thing he is lacking is height, he's only 6'. He makes up for that with his quickness and his gunslinger attitude.
  13. Does anyone know anything about the new coach at Warren County? I know his name is Chris Turner and he played at Tennessee Tech in the mid-90's. Does anyone know anything about his coaching in Georgia? What does Cookeville and Lebanon have? Can someone outside of the Boro win this district?
  14. We all see who the players for the Boro schools are. Does anyone know anything about the other 4 teams that play outside of the Boro? This could be the year for a team outside of the usual places to snag a district championship.
  15. the formation looked something like this (excuse the dots, they're the only way to get the spaces) .................................................o................................................... .XXXXX......................................X..................X.............................. ...X..X............................................................................................ .............................................................X...................................... .................................................X.................................................. The center snapped the ball to the guy behind him. That guy then ran a sort of halfback option pass to the one guy to the right of the center with the other guy behind the center blocking. Worked like a charm, but any kind of defense would know to call timeout. Another option, if the defense doesn't defend the stack on the left, throw a hitch to one of the backs. There's no way to defend both options.
  16. My prediction of Gomab's prediction: 1-3: the Murfreesboro schools minus Siegel 4: Cookeville 5: Lebanon 6: Siegel 7 & 8: Warren and White County Why? Because this is always the way he leans. If Siegel had one senior, they would be number 4.
  17. Lebanon has Andrew Donald(6'4") and Todd Cross(~6') leading their team back. Not to mention Doug Keil returning as the head coach. Judging by what he did in Warren County they should be greatly improved. They also have a lot of young talent with a very good JV team last year. Warren County has Bishop (6'), Kyle Thompson(6'3"), and Ross Marlowe(6') who are all seniors with playing experience. Josh Nunley(6'6") and Todd Gilley(6'4") return with experience as juniors. Brooks Majors has experience as a sophomore. They also have many young players that I can't remember their names at this moment.
  18. If this is about 7AAA, then here are my answers: Blackman: David Price, possibly best player in the district, expected to be a high draft pick in baseball, I have heard he may not play basketball, does anyone know anything Ben Sneed, good athlete, ineligilble until Christmas Riverdale: LaBryon Lyons, probably best player overall, definitely best athlete, playing football for awhile right now Gaston Miller, super soph, VERY quick, needs more control Lebanon: Andrew Donald, strong post, how will he fair in the new up-and-down style they will be playing? Todd Cross, great shooter, super hustler, one of the hardest working players in the district Warren County: Reese Bishop, best player most have never heard of, not getting the press of Lyons because of size (only 6'), quickest player in the district, slasher, not a shooter Josh Nunley, good size (6'6"), not tough, can't argue with the size though Cookeville: lots of youth, sophomore who played up last year, true team Oakland: last year's backups, still better than some teams' starters, just don't know their names White County: Seth England, heard he may not play, true fighter, not much athletically, just never stops young shooters across the board Siegel: Keith Ramsey, top 10 soph. in the state, 6'7", needs to get stronger very young team throughout
  19. Alright, it's time to get things started for all us poor folk that don't want to pay for a plus membership. My rankings for District 7AAA: 1. Blackman: David Price makes all of the difference here. If he plays they are here, if not they are about 4th or 5th. 2. Riverdale: This is a vote purely on talent. They have the most talent in the district. However, this is the story every year and they never accomplish anything. I actually look for them to be lower but you can't doubt talent. Labryon Lyons is one of the 3 best players in the district. 3. Lebanon: Doug Keil going here makes all of the difference. What he accomplished in Warren County with less talent is impressive. Now he has more speed. This team could be on top. 4. Warren County: The talent is there with Reese Bishop, one of the 3 best players in the district to carry them. They are young and have a new coach or they would be higher. 5. Oakland: I know, everyone else is picking these guys to win it all. If they do it will be on coaching. They graduated their team last year in Barker and Duggin. Their youth all ended up at Siegel. I just don't see them winning this competitive district. 6. Cookeville: Will have a hard time replacing Mario. Lots of young talent, but that's the problem, it's young. 7. White County: Great shooters, just NO size. Coach Slatten is a better coach than everyone gives him credit for. Looked good this year at some camps. Could give some teams a scare. 8. Siegel: Too early for this year. They do have the best young player in the district in Keith Ramsey. These guys will get some wins in the district, just not enough. With all of that said, this is an impossible district to guess at. Whoever wins the district will likely have 3+ district losses. With each team playing 14 district games, that number could be much higher. Tie-breakers will most definitely be needed at the end of the year. I can legitimately see any of the top 5 in my predictions winning the season and not making regions. This is going to be a GREAT year in District 7AAA. Another prediction: all 4 teams in the second round of the region will be from 7AAA, with all of 8AAA going out in the first round. An up year for one and a down year for the other.
  20. The Pioneers have now scored two touchdowns in one game. Will this continue this week? Friday is homecoming for the Pioneers and I know they are fired up about the new game plan. Will the new game plan of throwing 30+ times work for Warren County or is this just another gimmick? My opinion is this week's game will be the closest game of the year for the Pioneers. I know that is not saying much, but they are getting better and I think that if a win is going to happen this year, it will happen this week. However, I also believe the throwing 30+ times will put too much of a strain on the defense and Walker Valley will be able to pull away in the 4th quarter. Walker Valley 35 - Warren County 21.
  21. This is an interesting situation. The principal is a former football coach himself. At least one of the members of the school board is a former coach. I wonder why they would decide to go ahead with this instead of waiting 5 weeks. The turmoil this will cause for the players and the coaches is astounding. I am sure some of the coaches aren't necessarilly happy, but they are anxious to try their own stuff. Does the administration think that cutting Tidwell loose will somehow cause a miraculous turnaround on the field. It doesn't work like that. Do they think that by cutting Tidwell loose it will absolve them of any responsibility with the lawsuit. That won't happen either. I just wonder how a decision could be made that this would be better than waiting until the end of the season.
  22. Here are just some random observations and opinions: 1) Yes, Tidwell was probably gone after this year. However, leaving in the middle of the year is not the answer. I always tell my kids that if they don't think they will finish the year, they shouldn't try out. If they make it and quit, they are taking the place of someone else who would be tickled to have it. This is what Coach Tidwell has done. How can any of the new coaches possibly tell a kid he shouldn't quit when the going gets tough if that is precisely what their previous coach/role model did???? 2) Why is it that the answer always seems to be, bring in someone new from outside the system. That is the answer of this administration for almost every sports hire in the last few years. (Tidwell, Woods, Campbell, Fritz, Kiel, Turner, etc, etc, etc.) The coaches at Warren County from Warren County should take this as an insult. There is no reason the coaches that are there should not get the chance to run the program. This is not a shot at Dryden, I think he is a great guy and a very good coach. However, consider Madewell, Lytle, Watson, etc. for this job and don't go on an exhaustive candidate hunt outside the county and state. Everyone wants to know how to get confidence in the program..... It's to hire people that believe in the program and in Warren County, people that care, people that are from here. Bottom Line!!! 3) Players, don't take this as an example of what you should do when the going gets tough and tougher. I know that Tidwell is a great guy. He seemed to be a decent coach. However, ducking and running in the middle of the season is not the example the kids should follow. I can understand quitting after the season, but what does quitting in the middle of it teach. Players, you should just try harder, try something new, then try that harder, and repeat before you quit. Good luck Pioneers, some of us still respect, love, and encourage you. 2) b. another thing about hiring inside the system....... The only sport that consistently does this is baseball. (Brown, Walker, Holt) The only sport to win a state championship in the last 25 years.... baseball. Do you think this is a coincidence? I don't. Hire from inside, you get someone who cares, someone the kids trust, and someone who will stick with you.
  23. You can harp and harp about people bringing up negative things. Bottom line: there are too few positive things to talk about. Yes, there is young talent, but there's a problem: it's young and mistakes will happen. I do have to agree with Hoop20 on this, the coaches need to adapt to the talent they have. There are too many egos trying to run "their system". The best system is the one that fits the players the best. Paz can throw the ball. Crisp, Jevon, Mikey, etc. can run. This team is a spread it out team. They don't have Jerome Bettis in the backfield where they can constantly pound it up the middle. The lack of creativity of the coaches was evident when they had a 4th and 5 against Chat. Central and ran the ball directly up the middle. How could they think this could possibly worked if it hadn't the other 30 times they have ran it in the game. I know, I know the players should execute and every play should work, but when that's not happening it's time to go back to the drawing board and give up smashmouth football if you don't have smashmouth personnel.
  24. I'll have to agree with the last two posts, Warren County won't win a game this year. However, they are building a foundation with all of the experience the young guys are getting. There is potential that in two years, they could have 5-10 3-year starters playing. Then we will truly see if the problem is the players or the coaches. There truly does seem to be a lot of young talent. If seniors are the problem, bench them.
