  2. Sounds like the Middle Region will again be sending some great teams to the state tourney. Those of us from the West who are true basketball fans always enjoy watching how well coached and disciplined your teams usually are. I would love to hear some of the fans and sports writers from your region sound off on the unethical shenanigans that just occurred over in the West in the recent seedings for the West Region tournament. Look under the thread entitled DII-AA West Basketball Seedings and sound off on how these player violations would have been handled in Middle TN. Very interesting!!!
  3. Ouch! Big time missed opportunity to demonstrate to the players and everyone watching the process how important character should be in high school sports. No doubt that the decisionmakers involved will regret this forever. They must have been under some intense pressure to compromise their integrity in such a self serving way. This is a precedent that will probably come back to haunt the process for years to come. Also, do we now have a voting block for next year? In other words, a school that voted to not enforce the rules against another school may need to call in that favor next year. I'm glad I don't have a child involved because I can see cause for the parents of all 5 schools to be unhappy with the example set here. Sometimes it takes a little courage to stand up for what you know is right. QUESTION: What does courage have to do with being a person of good character...with someone who stays true to their principles and their values? ANSWER: EVERYTHING! You see, being values-driven means two things: Doing what's right and following our conscience; refusing to compromise our principles, despite pressures and temptations to the contrary, and Taking a stand against what's wrong and speaking out, whenever we see others do things that are incorrect or inappropriate. Unquestionably, both of those require guts and fortitude...they require courage. Courage is... Following your conscience instead of following the crowd. Refusing to take part in hurtful or disrespectful behaviors. Sacrificing personal gain for the benefit of others. Speaking your mind even though others don't agree. Taking complete responsibility for your actions...and your mistakes. Following the rules and insisting that others do the same. Challenging the status quo in search of better ways. Doing what you know is right- regardless of the risks and potential consequences. I'd like to share the Cadet Prayer that is repeated during chapel services at the U.S. Military Academy: Make us to choose the harder right instead of the easier wrong, and never to be content with a half truth when the whole truth can be won. Endow us with the courage that is born of loyalty to all that is noble and worthy, that scorns to compromise with vice and injustice and knows no fear when truth and right are in jeopardy. That is truly the essence of courage.
  4. Terry Tippett - everyone knows him from all the state championships, national rankings and major college recruits while he was at White Station. However, his finest coaching job may have been accomplished this year at ECS where he is taking that team to the regional tourney as the #1 seed. This team returned virtually no talent (just the point guard who is not a big scorer) from a team last year that he took to the state championship game only to lose to Brentwood Academy and Brandon Wright. What he has accomplished this year is nothing short of amazing!!
  5. The Lady Eagles 6th or 7th or combined 6th/7th teams out of ECS in Memphis would potentially be interested in playing. Contact Coach Little at 901-277-1444 or email at CoachLittle@FCALadyEagles.com .
  6. Looking for competitive girls' tourneys in the Western to Middle TN area for 6th/7th grade teams beginning in late February thru Mid May 2007. Please respond if you are plannning to host a tourney. If you would want to play in such a tourney, post your name, email address, cell phone number and school team name. Perhaps someone would like to host one if there is enough interest shown. No AAU teams please. Rather, lets get teams from schools who plan to keep playing in the Spring.
  7. Any plans to have a tourney in the Spring of 2007?
  8. Very impressive (Coach Burkey??)!! 1991 and older was a little before my AAU involvement but looks like a hayday for TN girls basketball! What was the connection between the Stars and the Trojans and where are those coaches now??
  9. With a little help from Eddie Clinton, I've made an attempt to answer the above poster's question. If anyone has more information for the time period prior to 1990, by all means share it with us (Champions only please): 2006 (thus far) - 10u TN Team Pride 2004 - 15u Shelbyville Sports Shop 2002 - 13u Memphis Lady Black Hawks 2001 - 12u Memphis Lady Black Hawks 2000 - 16u TN Stars 1999 - 11u Memphis Waves 1996 - 16u Shelbyville Sports Shop 1995 - 15u TN Lady 1991 - 13u TN Trojans, 14u TN Trojans, 18u TN CJ's 1990 - 13u TN Trojans, 18u TN Stars 1989 - 18u Memphis Celtics 1988 - 15u Memphis Celtics 1985 - 12u Memphis Celtics
  10. Congratulations to Chris Brown on bringing another girls' basketball national championship home to the state of TN. Congratulations also to Coach Mays for winning the Classic Championship.
  11. GREAT RUN by the TN teams. Two tied for 17th (FCA Lady Eagles and Elite Tigers), one tied for 9th (Express) and one that is already guaranteed to be in the top 4 with a chance this afternoon to advance further (TN Xtreme). Great job and congrats to all the coaches and their players.
  12. TRUE The Lady Trotters are a class organization and their 11u coach was very cordial and displayed good sportsmanship both before and after both of our games. I really liked their team and they presented an interesting matchup for us given their good size and strength at all positions and all the players were very solid fundamentally. Congratulations on your 2nd place finish. The semifinal game between my FCA Lady Eagle team and the TN Xtreme was exactly what I expected it to be--one for the ages. It was a chess match the whole way with either team having an excellent chance to win on any given day. The crowd for both sides was very much into the game and got their money's worth from both teams. Congratulations to the Xtreme on their 3rd place finish. The consolation game had to be very tough to get their girls mentally ready after our semifinal game. It was great to see the FCA Lady Eagle players and the Xtreme players together on the court at half time of the game preceding the finals playing knockout and having a good time together. That was great sportsmanship exhibited by the kids. The Elite Tigers fought their hearts out in the consolation game losing a close one to the Xtreme. They have a very quick and athletic team and are well coached. They should be congratulated on their 4th place finish. The officiating was fine and no different than what I have experienced in the many state tourney games my teams have played over the years. Some times you feel like a particular ref has it in for you (first half of the Xtreme game) and sometimes it just seems fair. As a naturally biased coach or parent or fan, you never think it is going your way. The Memphis Elite did a fine job in organizing and running the tournament and should be commended. FALSE I never heard the Trotter coach yell during our free throws. I can only assume that comment is sour grapes from another team that didn't make it to the championship game. I never saw any parents do anything during any of the 11u Sunday games that I would consider to be extremely unsportsmanlike. If anything was said or done, it wasn't so extreme that I even noticed it. Again, this must be sour grapes. The comment about a coach buying the refs food after a game is probably the most humorous. What game? Which coach from which winning team? I can assure you that I didn't buy any ref anything and if I did, I would have wasted my money because it sure didn't get me any calls. Again, sour grapes. There were several other very good teams that made it to state and they too should be congratulated: Express, Cookeville, Pearls and CDF.
  13. What TN teams are planning to go? Seems like a short drive (especially for West TN) for the chance to see more teams from states like LA, TX, OK, AR and MS. They have added an 11U age group. Post here if you are planning on going.
  14. TN Girls AAU Substate Results Download Page (winners listed but not always scores)
  15. I would think that the 11u teams would want more than one week between playing each other to have a chance to adjust. Plus, the first weekend in May is also the TN Miracle Classic in Jefferson City. Logic would say that the perfect opportunity for these teams to play each other ahead of state would be in the Memphis Super Regional on April 28th. This is not only true for the 11's, but the other age groups as well. With at least one 11u, 12u and 14u team having already qualified out of Memphis via previous super regionals, this would be the perfect opportunity for other teams to come in and get a bid to nationals without even necessarily having to win the championship game. Come to Memphis April 28th!
  16. Lots of close scores in all the age groups keeps it fun! On behalf of the teams in the Memphis area, we'd like to invite all TN teams (that did not qualify for state and those that did) to come to the Memphis AAU Super Regional the weekend of April 28th. Memphis tournaments have become a draw for National level competition over the past two years and a lot more TN teams need to come and check it out. Memphis teams travel regularly to participate in Middle and East TN tourneys and we'd like to host more teams from those regions as they come to our Super Regional. At least the 11U, 12U and the 14U age groups (maybe more) have Memphis teams participating that have already won a Super Regional bid to nationals which "could" translate into an extra national bid for those teams that come without having to actually win their championship game. Come qualify!!!
  17. The Memphis area Fellowship of Christian Athletes is looking for a school that may be upgrading their lockers to donate their old lockers to some needy area schools. Also, if you know of any country clubs who may be replacing their lockers, we could potentially use those as basketball lockers as well. Please reply to CoachLittle@FCALadyEagles.com if you are aware of any available lockers. Thanks in advance for your help!
  18. I already have enjoyed watching them. Great post player and nice guy for a coach! How did you guys do in the Shelbyville Super Regional this past weekend?
  19. Who won the 12u Shelbyville Super Regional and who qualified for Nationals??
  20. I won't comment on any of your observations above except the one that relates to my team, the FCA Lady Eagles. We have no players that played for the Elite or W TN Tigers last year. As a matter of fact, we kept all 9 of our girls that wanted to play and added 4 new girls that didn't play on any AAU team that went to State last year. Not sure where you got your info., but it is woefully inaccurate.
  21. The Trotters website shows a different champion in this age group as follows: 3/19/2006 F 2006 11U Lady Trotters 59 Panthers 23 F 2006 11U Lady Trotters 53 S.E.D. Eagles 47 F 2006 11U Lady Trotters 60 Tn Extreme 42 Cleveland Blitz Championship Game 3/18/2006 F Tn Extreme 56 2006 11U Lady Trotters 47 F 2006 11U Lady Trotters 58 Tn Ladies 34 3/17/2006 F 2006 11U Lady Trotters 51 S.E.D. Eagles 43 Which is correct???
