  1. What is wrong, you mean you would not take a pay cut to coach that team.
  2. Offensively she will not help OC, but as far as rebounding and defense and the other unseen impact intangibles, like giving someone a break for a minute or 2, 5 more fouls, and it will keep Fussell from guarding a post player , like she had to guard Reedy vs GC. Fussell played no defense that night , as she could not afford to get in foul trouble. Even if she is not a great or even good defensive player her size and making someone shoot over her is enough to alter shots. She was playing behind 2 excellent post players @ GC. If she wanted to transfer, then there must be a fire in there somewhere, or why make the move. Good Luck.
  3. The ghost, could be the player to be named later!! Or this could just be the start of things to come. The soothseer has predicted A Vaughn will coach Medina in 09-10 and instead of playing a JV schedule, will have Butler, Reedy, Griffin, Rechis, Glenn, Fussell all transfer in and win a state championship for Medina undefeated their 1st year, back as a high school .
  4. NSHD since GC and OC traded players, did GC give up next years 1st round pick or is there a player to be named later, that is yet to come ? /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" />
  5. Was Wescharge the one who taught you how to sneak food and drinks into the Ripley gym
  6. Thought MW had too many t/o to win, but even with that they made a game of it. The 1st foul on Rechis was not on her. She was 4-5 feet from the play. Her 4th foul was also questionable. Ref came to the table held up 2 - 4, which was a blonde girl on MW. The announcer said 25 and it stuck. With the 2 early fouls on Rechis , she had to sit for a little while. MW during that time got down by 10. When she came back in, she scored. She cramped just before regulation ended and finally locked up with 3 sec left on OT. Thought GC did a good job for the most part of controlling the tempo. Good thing GC has Reedy!! Jennings played great D as usual, got some key rebounds. Haynes(sp) stuck a big 3. She will be a special shooter. Butler did a good leadership job, in controlling her team and played excellent defense. 2 good teams. Doesn't really matter, though, if I remember right the winner of 13AA regular season the last 3 years didn't get out of the region. It is all about getting in the right bracket in the region or having to win a tough game against a familiar 13AA opponent. GC will score over 100 Friday nite, unless Mc calls off the girls early
  7. Don't know if I would call a game that was tied 37 all @ the end of 3 and a 7 point win decisive
  8. are on ESPN and are wearing #4 Texas out!!! CP has been getting 8-12 min. a game and has played very solid.
  9. GC's press will have an effect on the average and slightly above average team. The elite teams with true experienced PG's will do just as Marshall County did to GC last year, have a layup practice drill. It happens every year in the boro. You must play great 1/2 court D, rebound and be able to finish after executing a 1/2 court offense. The elite teams do not give up easy baskets, win the battle of the boards, do not make silly fouls, eliminate turnovers and can score by having go to players inside and out. Most of the time the winner of the tourney has at least 1 if not 2 division I players.
  10. Over the last few years the press of Gc has given MW some problems. And it will again. MW must break the press and run thru their offense and take quality shots. Once in the 1/2 court who plays PG for MW doesn't matter as Rechis can shoot from any position. As far as Jennings or Garner shutting Rechis down, they have had the opportunity to guard her for 2 years and it hasn't happened, so I don't expect a complete shutdown this time either. Limited somewhat by a GC team effort, possibly, but not any one person. I doubt either coach is really concerned about the outcome of this game, or the next one, or even the 3rd round. Should they meet a 4th and 5th time, then it will matter. I would not want to go to Memphis and play in a hostile BTW gym. Milan went to Hillcrest last year and in my opinion, no one else would have come out of there from 13 or 14AA with a win. It is a wild affair that very few teams survive. MW and others from 13AA have not passed the Memphis test in the past. And the 5th time would be for the gold!! But Marshall County, McMinn, etc. should have a say in that!!
  11. Since 1/2 of your varsity team is made of seniors and I am assuming you are on the varsity as a freshman, I would say he has a future planned for you. It is your job to be ready. Thinking: Know who you are guarding, are they left or right handed? In the other teams offense , where does your person want to get the ball? You can you deny that position, if you know where they go in advance. Is the person you are guarding a 3 point threat? Do they drive? Left or right ? Do you hunt someone, not nescaarrily your man, to box out every shot? Do you beat the other team esp. your man back on defense? Are you always in triple threat? Do you waste dribbles? DO YOU HAVE A GREAT ATTITUDE? DO YOU GIVE GREAT EFFORT? Attitude and efffort are the 2 things you can control. You can not control, whether or not shots go in, etc. Do you take blame and criticism, even when it may not be your fault? Are you willing to take a charge? Do you set effective screens? Think ahead, if the ball comes to me, what am I doing with it? Know in advance. Know where the ball is, know where your teammates are. Every second , be thinking, what can I be doing? While on the bench, keep notes of the post player playing ahead of you. Watch just them the whole game? Why did he/she do that? What should have been done? What can the do to get better? How is the other team defending her? How well does this person play defense? Are they always in stance? Does this person box out? Does this person look the coach in the eye when they are speaking? If you work hard, esp in the off season, on YOUR skills, the thinking part will be easier. Just a few things for starters!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. If you have a senoir and a soph, equally talented, you would consider starting the soph. If the soph, has a bad night, as all players will, a senior should be able to calm things. If a senior has a bad night, does a soph in most cases come in during a tough situation and become a calming force among his/her peers, doubtful.
  13. #1 McMinn probably a top 3 team in state last year, lost no one #2 Gibson County much better, will look to better a 07 boro appearance #3 Marshall County, not exactly as strong as 07, but tourney experience, and 3 or 4 returning players #4 Martin Westview will hurt some because of Brooks, but very capable #5 Upperman solid experienced team, with a go to player, as all good teams must have #6 Obion can beat anyone on a good night #7 BTW made section in 07, lost no one, added a good freshman, would not want to go to Memphis in Section #8 South Greene #9 Stone Memorial #10 Gibbs Now Ap will have Marshall, Upperman, Mcminn, GC,MW
  14. There is such a thing as politics in high school sports. I do not think it is the norm, but it does exist. It has existed in a boys program I am very familiar with for over 10 years now. I wonder if that is why they seem to have talent year end and year out, but continue to have losing seasons. Like I say, not the norm, but it does exist.
  15. McMinn is the best team based on the state tourney last year. Very solid club in all aspects of the game. With a little luck last year could have made the finals instead of MC. Don't think Marshall County would be #2 based on players they lost from last year. No doubt L. March is a great player along with a couple of other very solid players. Marshall should have no trouble getting to the "boro as their district and region is not that great. Would have Gibson County as #2. Much improved from last year. May possibly be too dependent on the press. The press doesn't bother championship teams, example GC vs MC last year. Martin Westview should be higher. Obion is missing from if not the top 10, the top 12. Milan nor Dyer County are not close to being honorable mention at this point in the season. Milan may come along later. BTW should be if not in the top 10 the top 15. Lost no one from last years substate team. Will be difficult to keep from the state tourney , if they play substate game @ home.
  16. Most of you guys don't remember this guy, but he was from Melrose, name was John Gunn. He was in the 1st class 1976 by the way, that dunking was allowed in high school in Tennessee. 6'10 solid muscle, wen to Memphis st a passed away as a sophomore I believe, unstoppable
  17. Gray seems to be adjusted to the college game, as she leads Vol St in scoring with a 17.3 average, 3rd highest in the conference. She is the starting PG and has led Vol St to a 9-2 start and a 18th national ranking.
  18. 68-39 was the score, one of the roughest girls games i have ever seen. 15 minutes in the 2nd qtr was spent cleaning blood off the floor.
  19. Russell is one of the better coaches around. He is physical defensive minded, with mental toughness and fundamentals as strongpoints for his players. McMillan is more offensive minded, fun and gun type. The two together make a good combination. With that said, GC was in the press. MC eat GC's press alive, thus shooting layup fter layup, thus the great shooting % for MC. I did think that after 3 minutes of the 1st qtr. GC had an opportunity to get out of the press and play a 1/2 court game. They did not make that adjustment. After a quarter or so they were so far behind, they had to press to even have a chance. GC had not seen their press treated that way all year, except for Milan in the 1st 2.5 qtrs of the region finals. Then Grey had to sit because of fouls and GC came back to win. MC had no foul trouble. The above is typical Russell. From watching his Bradford teams play in the past, he is a, here we are, here is what we do, if you are good enough to beat us, then have at it. He has a very good success rate, but when someone has as much or more talent, sometimes adjustments are needed occasionally.
  20. Went to Purdue's website today. Read articles on Chantel, viewed pic's., seems she is progressing very well. She went from Milan to the state tournament to Purdue and is now playing in the Maui classic in Hawaii. Typical CP, she was suprised her cell phone could get call from TN while in Hawaii. Good Luck CP!!!
  21. AA nominees will be tough to make the cut this year. Lauren March Marshall County State MVP 07, Reigning Ms basketball from Upperman (name escapes me), guard from Mcminn Central (names ugh) I'm getting old. All were in the state tournament last year and odds are will return. One of the Memphis teams has a D1 signee. And then here we go with GC Butler, Westview Rechis and OC Fussell and go ahead and throw in P Glenn Milan for the heck of it. I'm sure there are also a few others that are worthy!! tough pickens.
  22. GC and North Side early season favorites to go to state.
  23. NW you got to be a politician one day, Milan's D best in the region 113 yds per game on the ground. What is it in the air? Milan has been a play or 2 from 3 or 4 losses this year. Worst Milan D in years. It will catch up to them in the playoffs. Preach hurt all you want, it wasn't any better when they were all there. No pressure on the QB, No tight coverage on recievers. With so much speed, you would think those would be 2 things that could happen.
  24. The main one "holding Milan", all fumbles are not turnovers, but they do cause you to stop you self. Example Gilbert fumbled 3 times @ Camden, no yards. Milan is just not as sharp as they should be based on the teams they have played.
