  1. Such a sad thing to hear about. Please take the opportunity to say something kind to someone today. You never know what kind of difference your words could make. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and the community.
  2. John- Thanks a lot. I really appreciate that. It is often a thankless job that the cheerleaders have. I wondered why you had no cheerleaders. That's a shame. It's a big committment and it takes a lot of time. It's hard to get somebody that is willing to do that. Lucky for my girls I don't have much else to do. This is my 6th year coaching and I am on my 3rd sponsor so I know how hard it is to keep good help. Maybe you could volunteer to help out with them next year. I can give you a few pointers! By the way, were you standing along the fence during the game? Good luck to you tomorrow night!
  3. Took you long enough to figure that one out!
  4. Mark Byrd is a senior now. This is the 3rd season for the Dawg Pound. It all began when we dropped back to 1A. Someone from another school referred to a large group that stands under the goal posts as a bunch of dirty dogs or something like that and they picked it up and ran with it. Now they have grown in size and gained a lot of notoriety. I remember the OS game very well. I think our fans might have learned something from your bunch. You had quite the crowd and they were very intense. I sure hope that the person that was running back and forth with the flag recovered. I seem to recall someone hitting them in the head with a plastic bottle. Like I said it was intense. Our crowd has managed to pick it up a little since then, especially when it's close. Thanks for your support and best of luck to Oliver Springs.
  5. I don't know what they are making today at school. You never know with them. If not, we can work on that tonight. If you can lay your hands on some large pieces of cardboard, let me know. I have spoken with the "Big Chief P" from the Dawg Pound and they have a few things in the works. Please pass the word along that the bonfire tonight is being turned into a community affair, it's not just for the kids.
  6. Here are Hoople's exact words from the Kingsport Times: CHEROKEE 27, CLOUDLAND 14 - It's reality-check time. The Highlanders seem to be getting too overconfident. Um-yes, the state's No. 1-ranked 1A team will play second fiddle to the Chiefs. Remember where you read it. Kaff-kaff!
  7. You know Maynardette I don't know who Trout is but I heard that the Dawg Pound is having a fish fry before the game. He's welcome to join them.
  8. Krich in the Dawg Pound now this I gotta see! Just remember, that bunch is like the mafia once you're in, you're a member for life. And yes, everyone please don't forget the power of the crowd. It really changed things at Cherokee last year. We have a lot of people coming to see this game so let's show them who has the best fans. LOSING IS NOT AN OPTION!!!
  9. It sure would be nice if we could get the "Voice of the Highlanders" to the bonfire to give a little speech. He always manages to get everyone fired up. Pujo could you encourage the boys to come back after practice? I promise we won't keep them out late. We didn't have the greatest crowd of them last week. If the community comes they expect to see lots of Highlanders not just cheerleaders and band members. Not that the cheerleaders and band aren't great or anything!
  10. Woo-Hoo! Congratulations Rangers!
  11. No Trout you didn't resort to name calling at all. I'm sure that you were being totally serious with those comments. You're lucky you didn't get called much worse. Comments like that are uncalled for. Remember, the kids do read this stuff and they don't need that crap. By the way, we may not all agree on everything but when it comes to the important stuff, we will stick together.
  12. Silly Krich-your sources are all wrong. My knowledge of horsepower consists of the kind on four wheels not four legs! I can't help you with Gertrude. Sorry I am going to miss out on the ribs. You guys eat well without me. Just don't eat before the game, okay? We wouldn't want all those ribs to slow you guys down any.
  13. Congratulations Jerry! Well the way I see it, little Levi needs to hurry up or hold off til Saturday! Missing Homecoming is not an option. lol! And you are right about the crowd, it will be a big one. Don't forget that Unaka plays tonight instead of Friday also so we might even have a few Rangers there demanding cold hotdogs.
  14. Alright, let's hear it. What are your thoughts about the Homecoming game? Last years game against Cherokee was by far the most exciting one all year. Best fan participation I have ever seen. I'm sure that after last year they would just love to spoil Homecoming but then again it's not easy beating the Highlanders at home. Don't forget the Bonfire/Community Pep Rally on Thursday night at 8 p.m. We didn't have a very big crowd last week so try to come out if you can.
  15. HVWarrior-You have showed nothing but class on every post I have ever read from you. I wish you and your team nothing but the best of luck. I am sorry that we don't play each other but the fact is that we don't so there is no point in discussing it. You just go out there and take care of business in 2A and represent Carter County. I certainly hope that Trout is not who you are insinuating. I would be very disappointed if that turned out to be true. The kids at North Greene and Unaka work their butts off the same as ours and I am sure that the day will come that we won't be as blessed with the talent that we have now. When that day comes I fully expect them to lay it on us but you'd better believe that we won't go down without a fight. Just like neither of them give up now. If you want to sling insults at us adults on here then have at it (that would be myself, Pujo, ie3, krichunaka, maynardette, etc.) but leave the kids out of it. We take that personally and I don't care what school that they attend!
  16. Trout it was very nice of HV to only beat North Greene 29-12. It was quite thoughtful of Coach Ogg to go so easy on them. Your opinon of Cloudland football is no secret but don't start knocking on North Greene and Unaka just because you can't find anything good to say about you own team. The truth is that North Greene gave you a pretty good game and we all know it so don't dis them with your sarcasm. Go ahead Trout, bring it. We all know what your comeback will consist of. You'll have something to say about the "Avery County Highlanders" or you'll ask us if Keenburg is next on our schedule. Come up with something new this time okay.
  17. Precious? lmao. You are just way too much. Better check to see what those sources have been sippin. Sorry to say I am going to have to miss the road trip on Tuesday. I just can't find anyone to take over for me at cheerleading practice. I can't imagine why not. Best of luck though and have a safe trip. I guess since you play early that means you are gonna make it to our game right? It is Homecoming you know and we might have a little better caliber of food than the usual cold hotdog.
  18. I am sorry to hear about this. Sounds like it was real ugly. Just got to put that behind you guys now and concentrate on the next one. Losses like that can only make you stronger and more determined. And that bunch you have is determined, they don't give up. Who do you have next week anyhow? Hang in there!
  19. Thanks for the kind words ie3. You have a good groups of kids down there and they played their hearts out. I was impressed with the QB. He will be one to watch out for in the next two years. Good luck to you on down the road and I hope you do well with the rest of the conference. I missed you under that tree! Things were a little chaotic for me. Had a cheerleader get hurt. Before the game. Don't ask. Only one of my bunch.
  20. Let me fill you in on Krich-he is writing for a small local sports paper hoping to save money to take his show on the road. The Stoney Creek Kneeslapper! I can see it up in lights right now, maybe he could let me open up his act with a little song and dance. That way when he got on stage they would be relieved that I stopped singing and they would applaud him much louder. Hang in there Kim-things will get better.
  21. Best of luck tonight! Sure hope to be able to post a congratulations for another W on your thread tonight.
  22. Sssshhhhh! Don't tell anybody!
  23. Ah yes, I know right where that tree is. Been there many, many times. And don't worry, we have a lot of big beardy guys, bald guys and even scary guys in Roan Mtn so we're all used to that. :justwrestle:
  24. Amen Pujo. I overheard some of the boys talking last night after the pep rally and they were not talking of running over anyone. In fact they were pretty concerned about those big ole boys. They were told go straight home after the pep rally and get in the bed. Sounds to me like North Greene is being taken pretty seriously. I apologize on our behalf if that is truly someone from Cloudland talking but Pujo is right about others doing things like that to fire up their own teams. Good luck North Greene!
  25. Good job MtnGirl! I think you done a fine job. I know Bill & Poss will be thrilled that they got mentioned. Got to keep the younguns happy or else.................
