  1. Teachers go to professional development in the summer that they have to pay for themselves. Coaches go to clinics on their own dime to learn new and better things. By doing this they both get techniques and skills to help them when it comes time to perform in the classroom or on the field. Would it be too much to ask for umpires to work a few free games to improve their skills so when they step on the field they actually know the rules and how to apply them correctly when they do get paid to know the rules and apply them correctly?
  2. District 11 AAA 1. Brentwood 2. Centennial 3. Ravenwood 4. Franklin 5. Summit 6. Independence 7. Dickson County
  3. By the way, does any one know when the TSWA will release their all-state team for girls soccer?
  4. From an inside source, the A-AA team used to be selected like this: An email was sent out to all coaches who are members of THSSCA to ask for nominations for all-state. A list was compiled and then sent back to the coaches to vote on, and there was no set number they choose. If a coach is not a member of the THSSCA, their players are not eligible to be picked. Now it is done this way: Win the championship and you get to pick 4 players from your team, runner up gets to pick three of their players. The other 6 teams at the state tournament get to pick one of their players. As the list above shows this accounts for the 4 Catholic players, 3 from CAK, and one each from JCS, Liberty, Fairview, CPA, Notre Dame, and CCS. THSSCA says they have members across the state that watch games throughout the year and submit names of players who do not make it to the state tournament. Out of those names, they select 4 to place on the all-state team. The number can go up if they think there are deserving players but usually settle on four and the coach of the the team has to still be a member of the THSSCA or their players are not eligible. As for the TSWA team, i have been told it is based on the writers who are supposed to be watching girls soccer games throughout the fall from each of the major newspapers across the state such as the Knoxville NS, Chattanooga Times, The Tennessean, and Jackson Sun just to name a few. I am not sure how many actually go to the games until the region finals and later, but it seems like most of their selection is based off of the scores and stats coaches call in to their desks and not what they actually see on the field. So if a coach does not call in scores and stats to a big newspaper, their players usually get overlooked.
  5. Since there is no chance of the TSSAA completely splitting private and public schools, my guess is the 2014 state tournament will consist of KC, CAK, ND, CCS, CPA, and Jackon Christian. The other two spots will be toss ups for magent schools (Hume-Fogg, Liberty, Madison) and maybe a public school could slide in and upset some one to get to Murfreesboro like a White House the year before or Fairview this year.
  6. SoccerLifer... your last post just proved you are a sore loser and not very smart about soccer. Most visiting teams who win the coin toss choose to get the ball thus leaving the home team the choice of the side of the field. If a visiting team is not used to playing at said field that is a huge advantage. But just like blaming refs or the other team for playing a certain way it is an excuse for getting beat. And yes you will say that Fairview got beat by Knox Catholic and they shouldnt be there and you will say I told you so when you see the score but fact of the matter is they were playing and you were not. Move on.
  7. SoccerLifer..it seems for some reason you are bitter about losing to Fairview. Last time I checked, the only thing that matters is what the scoreboard says at the end of the game. You can call it poor strategy or whatever...you still lost to them. If you didnt like the way they played, A) dont give up a goal to them and make an adjustment. I would have never guessed that someone from White Hosue would be the ones complaining about the refs. To be honest, if White House had not played their region semi game against Lipscomb at 5pm with the sun directly in the keepers face they probably get beat in that game too. But if you get beat on your home field in a game that you and everyone else in the state picked you to win I would be finding reasons to blame the loss on besides you didnt play good enough to win. So what if the Fairview team shakes the refs hands after every game whether they win or lose...it is called showing good sportmanship. So SoccerLifer maybe they should spend more time trying to get better than complaining about how or why they lost to a Fairview team that I have been told starts a freshman goalie and 6 or 7 sophomores.
  8. Here are my picks: ND over Liberty KC over Fairview CPA over JC CAK over CCs Semis: KC over ND CPA over CAK Final: KC over CPA Total goals scored: 23
  9. This argument happens this time of year every year. Private vs Public. The multiplier does not mean much when A and AA are still combined. Private schools do not have to compete with big AAA schools, as AAA schools have 1500-2000 students to find 20 that can play soccer and play year round. It hurts the public AA and A schools who now are forced to play people who can pick and choose their players. Just because private schools can claim they do not recruit, you still can control who gets in and who gets left out of your school. If a student has talent, and they can afford to go, private schools will win out every time. Any one who claims that their admission process never looks at athletics is crazy. If you have two equally intelligent kids and the only difference is one plays a sport and the other doesn't, 100% of the time the athlete will be admitted over the other students because we will claim they are more well-round as a person. It all comes back to the only true way to make it completely fair and that is to have two truely divided divisions. Simply put, if you charge tutition, you play in the private division, otherwise you play in the public division. On a side note, I think it hilarious how private schools who do not man up and play in the private school division will say public schools should quit whining when this topic is brought up, but will complain that it is not fair to make them compete with the other private schools because they dont have as much money when that agrument is started. Private schools are private schools no matter how you choose to see it.
  10. here goes nothing... Region Semifinal winners: University School Greenville CAK Knox Catholic McMinn Central East Ridge Notre Dame Merrol Hyde White House Hume-Fogg Fairview CPA Dyersburg Martin Westview Jackson Christian Liberty Tech Region Final Winners Greeneville Knox Catholic East Ridge Merrol Hyde Hume-Fogg CPA Dyersburg Jackson Christian Sectional Winners CAK Knox Catholic East Ridge Merrol Hyde Hume-Fogg CPA Dyersburg Jackson Christian

  12. District 11 A-AA Semis Montgomery Central vs. Creek Wood Columbia Academy vs. Fairview District 12 A-AA Semis CPA vs. Spring Hill Page vs. Giles County
  13. I picked 7 out of 8 correct. Only miss was picking Hardin County.
  14. I predict the 8 teams are: Dobyns-Bennett Farragut Tullahoma Riverdale Brentwood Centennial Hardin Co. Dyer Co.
  15. This is how the division II post season is run in TN. It works, but there is also much fewer teams to play this out. You also have BGA going to Christian Brothers (Franklin to Memphis) to play the series this weekend, McCallie playing at MUS (Chattanooga to Memphis). Not a lot of public schools would be able to do that each weekend that the tournament is played.
  16. Brentwood gets second bid by finishing first in the regular season.
  17. Franklin beats Indy 1-0 in the loser bracket game at Franklin. I am assuming Brentwood beat Hillsboro in the other loser bracket game. Today I think they are playing all games at Franklin. 4:30 Brentwood vs. Franklin (elimination game) 7:00 Centennial vs. Ravenwood Thursday at Franklin: 4:30 BHS-FHS winner vs. CHS-RHS loser 7:00 winnner of the above game vs. CHS-RHS winnner in the championship
  18. Fairview won 13-3
  19. I saw the tournament schedule on the Franklin Home Page (online). According to the bracket they have for the tournament, the CHS-HHS loser and the IHS-RHS loser are out after one loss. Does any one know if this is correct? This would be a change from the past as everyone had to loss twice to be out. If this is correct, the IHS-RHS game is going to be a barnburner as both will have to throw everything they got to win or go home. This would make life easier for Brentwood as they would then get the winner on Saturday according to the bracket from the Franklin Home Page. District 11-AAA baseball tournament FRIDAY GAME 1: #6 Hillsboro vs. #3 Centennial @ 4:30pm GAME 2: #5 Ravenwood vs. #4 Independence @ 7pm SATURDAY GAME 3: Hillsboro/Centennial winner vs. #2 Franklin @ 10am GAME 4: RHS/IHS winner vs. #1 Brentwood @ 1pm GAME 5: TBD @ 4pm GAME 6: TBD @ 7pm SUNDAY OFF DAY, UNLESS GAMES ARE RAINED OUT SATURDAY MONDAY GAME 7: TBD @ 4:30pm GAME 8: TBD @ 7pm (Championship Game) TUESDAY GAME 9: 2nd Championship Game (only if necessary)
  20. Final Standings: Brentwood 10-4 Franklin 8-6 Centennial 8-6 Ravenwood 7-7 Independence 7-7 Hillsboro 0-10 Brentwood gets the 1 seed, host the tournament, and a region bid Franklin is the two seed because of their 2-1 series win over Centennial Ravenwood gets the 4 seed because of their 2-1 series win over Indy
  21. Brentwood 9-4 Centennial 8-5 Independence 7-6 Franklin 7-6 Ravenwood 7-7 Hillsboro 0-10 it all comes down to tonight, hope the rain holds off. here is the scenarios for each team for tonight with nothing settled except last place: Brentwood finished 1st with a win over Indy or Centennial loss, finishes 2nd with a loss to Indy and Centennial win. They can finish no worst than 2nd Centennial finishes 1st with a win over Franklin and Brentwood loss, finishes 2nd with a win and Brentwood win, finishes in a 3 way tie for 2nd with a loss and Brentwood loss and not sure of tie breaker. Franklin finishes 2nd with a win over Centennial, finishes 4th with a loss and Indy win, finshes in a 3 way tied for 2nd with a win and an Indy win or both lose and not sure how the tiebreaker works. Indy finishes in a 3 way tie for 2nd with a win and a Franklin win, finishes 3rd with a win over Brentwood and a Cenntenial win, finishes in a 3 way tie for 3rd with a loss and a Franklin loss, finishes 5th with a loss and a Franklin win. Ravenwood is done playing and currently 5th. They can move to 4th with an Indy loss and Franklin win, they can finish in a 3 way tie for 3rd if Indy and Franklin both lose. The 3 team tiebreakers may decide a lot depending on how the games go. In each case team one beat team two, team two beat team 3 and team 3 beat team 1. No clear cut winners in this situation.
  22. i have seen Bwood play a lot and the way they swing the sticks i thought they would outscore Indy in all three regardless of who was pitching for Indy.
  23. Brentwood 8-4 Centennial 7-5 Franklin 7-5 Indy 7-5 Ravenwood 6-7 Hillsboro 0-9 things are getting pretty interesting after mondays games. i didnt see Indy beating Brentwood at all.
  24. Brentwood 8-3 Centennial 7-4 Franklin 6-5 Independence 6-5 Ravenwood 5-7 Hillsboro 0-8 next week: Brentwood-Indy Franklin-Centennial Ravenwood-Hillsboro who do you all think will step up and claim the 1 seed and auto region bid this week? i think it will finish like this: Brentwood sweeps Indy, Centennial takes 2 from Franklin, Ravenwood sweeps Hillsboro and we finish: Brentwood 11-3 Centennail 9-5 Franklin 7-7 (owns tiebreaker with Ravenwood) Ravenwood 7-7 Independence 6-8 Hillsboro 0-10
  25. updated standings: Brentwood 8-2 Centennial 7-4 Independence 6-4 Franklin 5-5 Ravenwood 4-7 Hillsboro 0-8
