  1. All the the 8th graders had signed enrollment contracts for their freshman year. The letters were sent to make them aware of spring football practice (as long as they were not involved in current school activities). The follow up calls by Coach Flatt to the parents was to clarify that attendance was not mandatory.
  2. Try reading and comprending the facts of the case before you comment. The Appeals Court Judge has affirmed BA's position in the case and made it quite clear that the TSSAA has opened itself to antitrust action which may very well get rid of the public/private split. Also, if BA has committed a vast array of recruiting violations, then why did the TSSAA hang it's hat on such a weak technical argument (letters to 12 middle school kids that had already signed enrollment contracts to BA). If they had legitimate violations, then they would have acted on them. TSSAA went to court with the best they had and got slapped down by both the Supreme Court and Appeals Court.
  3. Coach Pitts met with the team today and let them know that he has accepted the coaching job at King College. Nothing was said about a possible replacement.
  4. Family for both George and his wife Renee are in that part of the country. If he truly has an interest in a challenge at the college level, then it will be difficult for him to pass up an opportunity to go home. I hate to see him leave but at this point I would be surprised if he stayed.
  5. Never said you did. My response was to Irishbball.
  6. This is Coach Pitts' 5th year at BA. Harrison graduated in May 2001 and Pitts' started Fall of 2001.
  7. George Pitts didn't coach Harrison. George came to BA the year after Harrison graduated.
  8. Google search turned up www.sportsedit.com This appears to be an East Tennessee message board and sports news site. The George Pitts blurb is on the home page.

Don't forget about Bill Kottas at point. BA returns 3 starters and 1 that started a number of games (Brandon Brown) as well as a host of solid role players. BA will be the odds on favorite to take number 5 but anything can happen.
  10. If you think Wright was worn out after his match up with Oher in last year's state finals, then you didn't pay attention to the game. If I remember correctly, Oher had about 15 and Wright about 30. As to guard play, Kottas, Beasley and Bone have consistently held their own against some of the best competition in the country. Granted, everyone has an off night but they have rarely had a night where turnovers were a factor.
  11. The 5:30 game on Monday is BA v. Davidson Academy/St Andrews winner. Davidson Academy/SAS was supposed to have been played on Saturday but may have been postponed.
  12. If you want a good explanation for Mitchell's failure to reach their potential, then read the game recap in the Memphis newspaper (the link is on Coacht homepage). This team has the most talent in the state but can't grasp the concept that there is no "I" in team. Thad Young's quote in the article was especially compelling.
  13. The streak will most likely be 6 before someone else takes the gold ball. The JV has two losses in the last two years and a typical margin of victory of 20. In addition to DII opponents, this year's win total includes Shelbyville, MLK, Whites Creek, Bishop Verot (Ft Myers,Fl), Tennessee High and Bolivar.
  14. I just got a phone report on the game. Josh Bone was the player of the game with five or six 3's. The report that I received was that it was definitely a solid team effort and not as close as the score indicates.
  15. Chism actually defended Brandan better than anyone I have seen in the last two years. Keep in mind that he held Wright to 3 points in the first half. All that said, Brandan was able to dominate the game on defense with blocks and rebounds. Josh Bone and John Garrett did an excellent job of keeping Willie Kemp in check. I believe that 6 of his points came in the last couple of minutes when the game was out of reach. BA has one more tough test in Memphis on Saturday with Mitchell.
  16. What??? No luxury suites! No segregated restroom or concessions stands for the BA faithfull. How dare they force us to play (or watch) basketball under such primitive conditions. I guess that I'll have to stay home and watch the game on our special satellite broadcast (only available to BA with our special satellite receivers). Do you seriously think that BA is taking this game lightly
  17. since when does profanity take guts?
  18. It's my understanding that this was intended to replace a BA home game. no, the only rematch is Bolivar on Feb 9
  19. Which team looked the best of the four? BA will be playing both Mitchell and Bolivar (in the rematch) in a couple of weeks.
  20. It was on the original schedule for the 7th but the updated schedule given to the BA players and family now has the game changed to the 9th. I don't recall the reason for the change.
  21. The information on the Guidestar website shows the actual copy of the IRS form 990. Unless MBA filed a false tax return (which I seriously doubt), Itzme is correct. The return shows all compensation for employees over $50k as well as Officers and Directors. This includes salary, retirement funds and expense account allowance. The difference in the tax return compensation and the $180k may relate to football camp money that doesn't run through MBA (just a guess).
  22. USA Today Super 25 was released today with the Eagles moving from number 10 in the Southeast regional ranking to number 12 in the Super 25. BA remains at number 7 this week in the Prep Nation national ranking.
