  1. A: Ezell over Cloudland AA: Tyner over Huntingdon AAA: Trousdale over Crockett Co. AAAA: Maryville over Hillsboro AAAAA: Gallatin over Riverdale
  2. If Waverly wins, then it doesn't matter what Loretto does. Even if Loretto beats Lewis County, LC and Waverly will be 8-2 to Loretto's 7-3 overall. If I understand the tiebreak procedure, Lewis County will win the tiebreak over Waverly for the top spot because LC beat them in head-to-head competition.
  3. Not being at either game, it's hard to say. From the sounds of things, Dresden had a perfect game plan and executed it well in the first half; Milan made the necessary adjustments in the second half. As for SS/Milan, I believe the score is almost always close when those two teams play. SS isn't as bad as their record indicates, either.
  4. Region 7 will finish: 1. USJ 2. Fayette Academy 3. JCS 4. Perry County Region 8 will finish: 1. Bruceton 2. Greenfield 3. West Carroll 4. Halls In the playoffs, I expect the higher seeds to win their respective games to set up a USJ-Bruceton rematch. Bruceton-Fayette Academy could be a very interesting matchup in the 2nd round.
  5. To those being critical of Lewis County's playoff record in this thread, remember one thing: there are plenty of other schools who would gladly trade places with you. Be thankful that your program has maintained a solid level of success. That, in itself, is not an easy accomplishment.
  6. I don't know for sure, but judging from the way he was helped off the field, I'd say it's a safe bet he is. I heard one of the coaches say that he blew out his knee.
  7. But Coach Browder's affinity for running up the score bit him hard last night. His senior QB, Will Shelton, blew his knee out with about 5 minutes to go in the game with McNairy ahead 42-7. Browder had no business having his first string in there at that point, and now his arrogance is going to cost his team dearly. I do feel sorry for Shelton, but I don't have much pity for McNairy as a team. One of the assistants reportedly asked Coach Browder, as Shelton was being carried off the field, "was it worth it?" Browder's response? "Yes."
  8. Rafael Hill's stats: 115 carries/1003 yards/8.7 avg/13 TD This guy won't get nominated, but he's worth noting: Terrance Bell, Huntingdon 90 carries/1014 yards/11.2 avg/10 TD

Here are Patrick Willis' defensive stats: 93 tackles (10 for loss) 5 sacks 3 interceptions
  10. Hard to tell. Their competition is pretty lousy, so it's difficult to gauge how good they really are. The only real test they've faced has been Obion, but C'ton did win that one. I don't think they'll be able to beat Crockett County, though.

Wow, I'm surprised to hear that about Coach Lindsey. I thought he'd been doing pretty good with a young team this year, but I don't know what he's done prior to this season. As for the other stuff you mentioned, I won't comment on that. Seems to me like Lexington would be a great fit for Sturdivant, though, considering the talent they have in the 8th-10th grades.
  12. McNairy hasn't exactly been faced with tough competition this year. Crockett is by far the toughest test they'll face in the regular season. Some of the teams that were tough last year, such as Hardin County and Dyer County, are way down this year. They'll end up 2nd in the region. And they did lose to 2A Decatur Co. Riverside, 28-14.
  13. Covington did indeed have one outstanding back who got hurt early in the season - Antonio Gaines. He only played in weeks 1 and 2, and IIRC he got injured during the 2nd game. Darvis Williams replaced him, at least in terms of carries, although the Chargers seem to like to spread the ball around among their talented backs. I agree that Earnest Williams is probably the better player than Pitts, but Pitts gets the ball more and therefore has better numbers. Here's Williams' stats on the year through week 8: Rushing: 92 carries/879 yards/9.6 avg/7 TD Receiving: 9 catches/205 yards/22.8 avg/2 TD
  14. Here's the possible scenario: Team A: 1-4 in region (win over team C), 5-5 overall Team B: 1-4 in region (win over team A), 3-7 overall Team C: 1-4 in region (win over team , 2-8 overall These teams are in a 3-way tie for 4th in the region. My understanding through reading the TSSAA Handbook is that team A would win the tiebreak because their overall record is the best of the three. I've been told, though, that this is incorrect. Does anyone know how this would work?
  15. P.A. Pratt from Crockett County has to be mentioned here. He took a team that lost 24 straight at one point in the late 90's to the state championshop last year, and has built a reputation in Crockett that has people thinking of them as a top-notch program.

Those stats for Willis are a week behind for some reason. They're the same as were in the paper last week, so his numbers through week 8 are actually better than that. I guess Bruceton forgot to send the Sun the updated stats.
  17. FormerCav, Thanks for clarifying that. I admit, I was surprised when I read that in the Milan paper. The implication was that Crockett didn't want to play, and I found that hard to believe, so I'm glad you set us all straight I also forgot about Liberty being in 6-3A.
  18. Don't get me wrong, I think Lexington has a good young team. You mentioned something about how they make inopportune mistakes that come back to haunt them - I'd be willing to bet that won't happen as those young players mature. I actually will be pulling for Lexington in this one.
  19. So how does your school's schedule for the next two seasons look like? How many changes are on there? I read today that Milan lost Crockett County (who opted not to renew the contract oddly enough) and Jackson South Side... so they go and add Covington and Jackson Central-Merry. Wow. As for Chester County, I have heard that they lost Perry County, Lexington, and McNairy. In their places go Dyer County, Fayette Academy, and Bruceton. [Edited by TheBoredGuy on 10-23-02 3:07P]
  20. Actually, I said that Lexington is more athletic. But they aren't big, and McKenzie is. Additionally, McKenzie did lose a lot from last year, but they're not that young. They still play a lot of seniors, and have two running backs that can do a lot of damage. They'll run behind Ricky Mathis a lot, and Lexington doesn't have anyone who can match up with him.

I haven't heard that. I seriously doubt he's going to Lexington... Coach Lindsay has done a good job and isn't going anywhere as far as I know.
  22. In west TN, I couldn't tell you what The Commercial Appeal has available, but The Jackson Sun doesn't put theirs online. If you want them, though, I compile them for another website. Email me at armstrng833@cs.com and I'll send them to you.
  23. If it helps, here's Artis Pitts' stats thru week 8. Rushing: 132 carries/1038 yards/7.9 avg/18 TD Receiving: 4 catches/90 yards/22.5 avg/1 TD Don't have his defensive stats handy.
  24. This could turn out to be a really good game. McKenzie is a lot more physical than Lexington, but Lexington has more speed and more athleticism. I think McKenzie's size and physical presence will wear Lexington down in the end. McKenzie 28, Lexington 18.
  25. Thanks for setting me straight. I haven't been able to get a lot of info on the freshman team really, so I was going off of what I had remembered hearing. So when do I get to ride to another game with you and the Carroll crew?
