  1. Nope. Lee played in the NFL for 11 years and he invested his money well. This is not about money.
  2. Can't help but chuckle at the fact that so many who hated his father when Lee was a high school player are now going to be cheering his son. Irony. And I have no problem at all with it. Always supported Lee, even when he had his personal issues, and I am a huge fan of Maryville's staff. Obviously feel bad for my friends on the Bearden staff, but as I have said all along, I am all for parental choice in their children's educations.
  3. One big different is cost. Webb is a great school, but is ony realistic for the very upper earners in the area. Concord Christian, GCA, and a couple of others are realistic options for middle to upper middle famies, especially if vouchers are enacted.
  4. Up in age? I'm thinking you just called us old farts.
  5. There's a saying that says that more things change the more they stay the same. I'm told that baseball is having similar issues as football did, and there is a common denominator. Parents - if you can't keep your mouths shut and let your kids play and the coaches coach, just stay your butt at home. You aren't doing anybody other than your own ego any good.
  6. Don't know him well, but I have met and spoken to Jarvis a couple of times. Seems to be a solid guy.
  7. I took my grandson to that camp, and it was really well organized and instructive. Heath Shuler and Eric Ainge were the "draw", and it worked. There were over 200 kids there from age 7 to middle school. And I didn't take him because there are plans for my grandson to go there, but because it was a good opportunity for my grandson to get a little offseason instruction and keep the desires kindled. Good on Concord Christian for putting on that event and opening it up to the public. Matthews is a very good football coach. I have a friend who is on that staff, and he tells me that Steve is doing all of the right things. Hopefully he has his issues in the rear-view mirror. I'm all for second chances and redemption and forgiveness. We've all fallen short and aren't without shortcomings. Hopefully it works out for him and for that program. It can be similar to Grace Christian in a few years, in my opinion. And adding as an edit: If school vouchers pass in Tennessee, and this is not a political discussion, but just an opinion on what happens if they do (and with the party that supports them having a legislative supermajority and the Governorship I expect it to pass and be signed in to law) this will open the door for schools like Concord Christian to be affordable to many more families. I have a feeling we'll see more private schools in the Grace Christian/Concord Christian price range benefit, and that will mean more students to play sports. And not only will those schools benefit, but public-school districts that charge a tuition for out of district transfers (Oak Ridge, Maryville, Alcoa, Greeneville for example) will also see transfers come in, too, as the vouchers can be used at either private/parochial and public schools. And parental choice in education is not a bad thing, in my opinion.
  8. I sit corrected, then. I knew he came to HVA as the equivalent of an Analyst at Valdosta.
  9. ,Maryville, Bearden, JeffCo, DB, off the top of my head have current head coaches who had no head coaching experience prior to being hired. And I believe the guy HVA just hired had never been a head coach, either.
  10. Like I said, I disagree with what he said. I have a grandson who plays in the MAC, so I am not unfamiliar with how it is supposed to work. That said, you can have all of the "gentlemen's agreements" you want, but until Knox County sanctions middle school football and there can be some state organization rules regulating player movement the coaches are going to find away around the rules.
  11. 70 and a cancer survivor. While I didn't agree with his comments on player movement in Knox County, I certainly do have the utmost respect for him as a person. Class act all the way around.
  12. If you have a problem with reading about other classifications on this board, then skip this post. I don't really care. Happy that Knox County and Stanton Stevens finally got things worked out so he can return to Austin-East. Stanton is a very good football coach, and a terrific human being. I hope he's able to help A-E bring the program back to great success.
  13. Very unlikely. As others have said, this one is probably already decided.
  14. At least most from Ohio and Michigan are tollerable people. Just close entry to those from California, New York, and the People's Republic of Massachusetts, please.
  15. How many without a slush booster club bank account fund and a future NFL stud at his disposal? Tje guy is a fraud. Period.
  16. Catholic not going out and hiring a head coach with a pulse after their co head coach left for an upstart program speaks volumes about their commitment to competing in D2-AAA. Doesn't really matter who the hire as coordinators at this point.
  17. So SS, Caleb Slover found it humorous to learn from your post that he was a Campbell County kid.
  18. Didn't hurt that he had his own booster club checkbook at Blackman.
  19. You don't think coaches do this already? I've seen it done at the high school level myself at several schools. There is simply a big difference in practicing it on Tuesday and executing it on game night, and especially from immature teenagers.
  20. NFL coaches have NFL players running those systems. High-school coaches have 15-18 year olds running theirs. I understand the point you are trying to make, but that's an apples and bananas analogy.
  21. Do what? Both the Powell and West teams that won the gold balls against them were absolutely loaded with college prospect talent, from the highest levels of college football to the smaller levels. No offense, but you are clueless if that is your take,
  22. Are you serious? He's been to the state championship game 3 times. Sometimes kids just don't make the plays to win. That's hardly on him. Fire him and see if you are able to find another coach as good as he has been. Firing him after the success he has had would be a definite red flag for most potential applicants.
