  1. Does anyone know the start dates/schedules for these 2 tournaments?
  2. This is just hearsay, but I was told #15 didn't play QB last week because of too many interceptions. I figured it was because Tellico's defense has been suspect defending the run.
  3. We are looking into starting a middle school team at Sequoyah. It would be combining players from Vonore & Madisonville middle schools. What are some do's & don't's to starting a program? What conferences/leagues are around Monroe County that we might be able to join? Any input or suggestions would be much appreciated! please be serious and willing to give helpful information on your comments. We would very much want to get this program started next year if possible. Thanks in advance for any help!
  4. Bobby White is the new head coach and Debi Tipton is the new principal. Coach White is 26 years old and in his first year ever as a head coach. He has been at Sequoyah for 4 years. Hired right out of college. Seems to be doing a good job so far. Scrimmage @ Gibbs on 31st. First real test with pads on. Summey was never in consideration for the principals position. He is enjoying retirement too much. Coach Satterfield put his confidence in coach White and thinks he will do a great job.
  5. Vonore Middle School is looking for softball games for September. We have games scheduled on the 15, 16, and 29. You can contact Kevin Kiser, Athletic Director, at kkvol33@aol.com to schedule. This is a new young team and we realize we have started late, but we will take about anything as long as travel isn't too far. We also have a field, so we can schedule home and home. Thanks in advance!
  6. Sequoyah fans, be sure to pick up your copy of the Maryville Daily Times Saturday morning. They have decided to try to sell more papers in Monroe County so they are extending their sports coverage to include Sequoyah this football season. If you get a chance, contact Leonard Butts, the sports editor at the Daily Times, by phone or e-mail to let him know you appreciate them for picking up Sequoyah. Looking forward to watching a good game tomorrow night, hope both teams play hard and go injury free. Dumdum, Sorry to hear about Brandon, that made a big hole to fill. Tell him I wish him the best and can't wait to see him back out there. I have said it before, and I will say it again, you have some fine young men and I know you are very proud of them.
  7. Central should be strong again this year and Polk is always tough. Of course I am biased toward Sequoyah, but honestly, I think the Chiefs are closer to competing than some realize. Sweetwater still has quite a bit of talent returning, but we will have to wait and see what they do with a new coach when they get one. Meigs had a lot of issues to deal with last year, if they have worked through them they could return to their traditional toughness. Good luck to all the teams and I, for one, will be pulling for all the district teams in non-district action.
  8. Glad to see Loudon back on the schedule. Interested in seeing Signal Mountain. New school that is rumored to be pulling some talent from South Pitt. If that's true it shouldn't take long to have a good program.
  9. Your right and that goes with any program. The Mitchell kid you mentioned earlier might be Cody Mitchell. Don't know a whole lot about him but he is a big guy. He has a strong arm too. He pitched some in youth league. With his size, I believe he could be molded into a good lineman.
  10. I agree, plus those flat passes work just as good as a running play to keep defenses honest. It can open up the deep ball also because enough of them and the DB's start taking hesitation steps in coverage that can allow a receiver to get past them. How would you defend against this kind of offense? Just my own personal guess, but I was thinking along the lines of a 4-4. That would give you linebackers inside to stop the dives and outside to try to control the sweeps and possibly gaurd against those flat passes.
  11. I like the Single Wing myself. I know it is probably to easily defended in today's game, but I still love it.
  12. Well, my implication was that coach Summey and coach Gregory had both told me that they seek the input of all assistants. That is why I implied that I knew because I believe what they said. I put a lot of stock into what both of these men told me and took it as fact. When I asked either one of them about things pertaining to the program, I took their word as fact. Not only had they told me that, but Jeff had told me that when he and I talked at a fall scrimmage. If he had thought back, he would have remembered us having that discussion. Funny that I brought that up, you know, your big about telling people to come talk to face to face or to call you. Jeff felt there was things I needed to hear from him, so he came and talked to me about them. Why haven't I heard from you besides on here? If I have done so much wrong that you have been so upset about, why haven't you talked to me about it? You have had the opportunity. I stood not 10 feet from you the whole G-P game. In fact, I think every time I have seen you, we have exchanged pleasantries without anything else being said. So, to use your words, if you have a problem with me call me or come see me, be glad to sit down and talk with you, but there will be no more of it on here.
  13. Ok slobber, lets talk football. Just me and you right now. What is your favorite style of offense? Forget the ongoing discussion about the Wing-T and the Double Wing, out of all the offensive styles, which one is your favorite?
  14. Get over yourself. There was no recanting. I just meant that my first post on the two formations was not meant to support either side, just facts about the two formations. Man, this board has turned into nothing but personal attacks about what everyone says.
  15. READ it again Dave. I was actually backing up Jeff's previous comments as to how you was not involved. My statement says that coach Summey and coach Gregory gathered input from the assistants. I never stated or anywhere, anyhow implied that I got input from the assistants. Geesh, get over your chip on your shoulder about me and quit being so blame defensive about everything I say! Now have you been enlightened? And by the way, I capitalized the word all before assistants so that it could not be taken the wrong way and assumed I meant they only sought input from you and Jeff. The capitalization was done to draw attention to the fact that there were more assistants than the two of you.
  16. That stinks! I have watched them every year. I had cleared my weekend to do nothing but watch these games with my son. Way to go TSSAA! You dropped the ball again!
  17. In my previous post I was not trying to support either argument, just posting some facts about both offenses. The "Power I" and the "Straight T" are similar offenses (play-wise), but they are completely different formations. In the "I" the backs are lined up directly behind one another, in the "T" the are beside each other. There are plays that can be ran from the "I" that can't be run (successfully) from the "T", and vice versa. Just my opinion. As far as the playing time in the past, I can say that the previous year the final decision on who played and who didn't was decided between coach Summey and coach Gregory. They did take input from ALL assistants, but they made the final decision. I agree with the posts on the little league. I believe in order to have a successful program, it has to start from the beginning. The advantage to running the same system as the high school is it becomes repetitive, or second nature to them. Each age group becomes easier to teach and in turn will become more competitive. When all age groups decide to this, they will struggle to be cometitive for a while, but soon it will come together. The element of suprise is not in running different offenses on every level, the advantage comes in the play calling.
  18. The "Wing T" was designed to be a mix between the "Single Wing" and the "T" Formation. It took the motion and run strength of the "Single Wing" and the QB under center from the "T". There is only one wing with the other back lined up next to the FB on the opposite side from the wing. The wing can line up diagonal from the TE and can be used as an extra blocker or a receiver. The "Double Wing" is a variant of the "Single Wing". It is primarily a running offense using misdirection and power plays. Most "Double Wing" plays use a motioning wing at the start of each play. Some colleges run it out of the "Flexbone". The "Double Wing" can be set into different formations to take away the pre-snap key on the motioning wing. "While you can turn a Wing-T formation into a Double-Wing formation instantly, just by bringing your split end in tight and moving your halfback out of the backfield and up into a position just outside that new tight end, you will still basically be running the Wing-T. "- Coach Hugh Wyatt. His video "Dynamics of the Double Wing" is the gold standard of double wing videos. I do agree with whoever posted earlier (I think it was Dr Dave), supporters of the "Wing-T" and the "Double Wing" have debated the differences between the two for years and take great exception to comparing the two. They believe the two are complete opposites and have good arguments as to why they are. The above information was gathered from reliable and proven sources about the two variations.
  19. My job does not permit me to make it to most of the games anymore, so could someone fill me in on what Sequoyah looks like this year. I know last year they had a lot of good talent, but were young. Are the athletes still there? If the team is still the same as last years I am guessing the starting lineup could be Atchely, Griffin, Fritts, Ferguson, and Bledsoe with Whited, Coley, and maybe Lingerfelt as the first ones off the bench. Just my guess, I could be completely wrong. Just curious as to what they look like this year.
  20. Could have been. Like I said that McMinn County team was really good and that can be a big difference in how a team looks. Also, remember I was talking about the junior varsity. I'm sure the varsity looks quite a bit better.
  21. Haven't got to see the varsity yet this year, but they had some good players returning this year with Paige Hicks being the one that stands out probably the most. A very physical type player who can control the boards. Did get to see the jv play Monday against McMinn County and I would have to say, Sweetwater has some talent coming up that should make Sweetwater competitive in the district for a few years at least. With Danny Green back at the helm and Greg Allen helping, you should be able to tell a difference right away. I think they will just get better as the season continues.
  22. Seen Sweetwater's junior varsity Monday. Didn't get to see the varsity, had to leave before the varsity game. Unless some of the jv guys improve drastically, Sweetwater is on a long tough road for the next few years. They didn't have anyone that could consistently handle the ball well, no true big man to get on the boards, and played out of control for most of the game. Although, they did play against a good McMinn County team that could make a lot of teams look bad.
  23. It is a shame if only for the fact that the girls program has been through more coaches than the football program ( I think). It has been tough for all the girls that have come through the program having to adapt to a new system every few years. This program needs someone who is willing to invest long term into this program and several conversations with coach G led me to believe he was willing to do just that. I do not know everything that has been involved with this program because my job takes me elsewhere, but I do know that the past year or two there were some that were not happy with him. Coach G is an easy man to get along with and I wish him the best of luck. Hopefully coach Moser can keep the transition smooth and the young ladies can excel under his leadership.
  24. Who is the boys coach at Sweetwater? Is it still Allen? I had heard he had given it up, but never got that confirmed.
