  1. Not to be picky or anything, but SHS is Sweetwater High School,Sequoyah's biggest rival. Sequoyah is SQHS. Yes I know that doesn't make sense, but when the school started the students called it SQHS to distinguish it from Sweetwater, and so that Sweetwater could not say they were copying them. Also, Sweetwater used to have a big S on their helmets while Sequoyah had a big S with a spear through it. So to seperate the schools, the SQHS identification was born.
  2. Tellico Plains has had several good girls teams in the past, but seem to falter when they get to the tournament. Why?
  3. Friendly banter, I love it. "V", in answer to your questions, a few are playing basketball, some more are planning on playing baseball. Not enough that it should affect spring workouts and practices though. As far as Joe goes, I don't know what he has decided yet, haven't had a chance to talk to him or his family. My guess is he might focus more on basketball, that seems to be his strong point right now.
  4. We can V, but we must first learn to get along... Wait a minute, now I'm beginning to sound like a therapist. Let's just move on to something else.
  5. I agree and apologize for assuming you didn't know him. Hang in there, I truly believe the program is finally going to take off. I think some of the personnel is in place and the rest is not far away. We'll just wait and see what the school board decides from here. I have talked to some board members and they say it is just a formality, a process that has to be done, and everything will be good. I hope they are right.
  6. Just so you know, I wasn't trying to slight you in no way, or be rude. I think you have had some pretty insightful posts and have enjoyed reading them. All I'm saying is, everyone should get a chance to right their wrongs. Things got pretty heated on the last post, and I think it led some people to say things that they might have said differently once they thought it out. Give V another chance, maybe he will surprise you. Until you get to know him, he can seem a little brash, but he's actually a good guy who is easy to get along with. As long as he stays within the realm of possibility, I don't have a problem with that. There has been a lot of energy put in these posts and I would like to see all that energy channelled into the program. Will that happen? Probably not, but a guy can hope can't he? Anyway, just wanted you to know, I enjoy your posts and don't want you to think otherwise.
  7. Not a problem, just keep that van in tune, may need it this year. Tell HB and BB I said hi. Remember its like a light switch!
  8. No offense, but as long as he keeps it positive, and has factual statements, he is as welcome as anyone. With that said, V keep it clean and don't get "thrown out". Remember LC? HA/A
  9. Haven't heard yet what the schedule will look like. Great question. Will look into that and post it as soon as possible. Not known yet how many Jr. and Sr.'s there will be. Some are in the weight room now, but I think some are waiting to find out who the coach is. If my count is right, there should be about a dozen of both.
  10. He does, and if THE BOARD APPROVES HIM, he will have a good staff with him. He might bring some with him, use some that are already there, and the school might find more outside the program. I say might because nothing is complete or official as of yet. There are some things going on, that if they come to fruition will help the program tremendously. If these things do happen, some people have made some pretty big brags that they are going to be called on. Don't promise something unless your willing to back it up. I'm sure coach Summey is a good judge of character. He was good enough, and honest enough to tell me I wasn't as good as I thought I was (which wasn't much anyway), but I respect him for that and because of his challenging me then, has made me a better person now.
  11. A decision on a new coach cannot be official until it goes through the school board. There have been interesting comments on past posts about this situation, but please stay on the subject at hand. Enough with the name calling and back-biting on here. I am a former volunteer at Sequoyah and am still close to the program. No the "volunteers" position, which is officially titled "Non-faculty certified assistant" does not go to the highest bidder. The only have to attend classes and pass a test that is set up by the TSSAA. Then each year the names are turned in to the TSSAA to remain certified. Please get your figures and statements correct before posting them, it will save you from posting later. "the good DR" and "half pint" are good men who volunteered their time, where were the rest of you when the coach needed help? Especially when he built the practice field? We can all bash and point fingers, but usually fingers get pointed right back. As for KK, because of health, he hasn't been able to volunteer for several years, but did say that he offered both years to help coach Holloway. Not that he wasn't wanted, just that the coach went in a different direction. He says he is healthy once again and would love the opportunity to help again, but his new job limits that. Let's get over what someone has done and what they haven't done and come together. Now is your chance to quit belly-aching and do something about it. Instead of posting on here, go to the school and offer your assistance, voice your opinion, or whatever else you feel froggy in doing. Any way I will get off my soap box and will welcome you to post either information about the position or the new coach. Please let's stay in this parameter. Good luck to the Sequoyah program.
  12. You are correct. Several got upset about his reasons for leaving, but I personally couldn't blame him.
  13. Meadows was from Portland, Georgia before that. Smith came from Crockett County, went back there, his choice not Sequoyah's, Kerley was from Jackson County.
  14. I agree with you RedChief. The local paper threw out a name when Coach Holloway's resignation was announced, but I believe that was just because the name was already freely flowing throughout both communities. I don't think any names need to be involved, just the one of the one they hire. A lot of people think that their voice doesn't matter, that the ones involved in the hiring process are going to do whatever they want, but I know for a fact that they are taking the publics comment to heart and are determined to find the right man and are willing to stand behind him 100%.
  15. Any information on these selections?
  16. Does anyone have any information on an All-Region 3-3A team? Who was selected?
  17. The guy at Sequoyah a few years ago, can't remember his name. Had to give it up due to sickness. Heard he had a liver transplant. God speed and hope he can return. Beleived in being proffessional and giving both teams their due credit. Did football and basketball and truly was the voice of the Chiefs.
  18. I have been a long time supporter of Sequoyah, but because of health and work I have not been able to attend the games as much. Just from reading these posts it looks as if some people have the right frame of mind in helping the program succeed. It also seems there is a lot of interest in this job. As a supporter of Sequoyah I thank all of you for your support and your interest. May the right man be found, and whoever it is, good luck.
  19. They hope to have the search down to a short list by christmas break, as to when they will hire someone, your guess is as good as mine.
  20. Prayers from all of Monroe County. No words can be used for something so tragic. Seek God's comfort.
  21. I am glad to see some positive posts finally. You know it is easy to be critical of a coach especially if the program is struggling, but what it all boils down to is stability. As long as the carousel continues at Sequoyah, the program will continue to struggle. No matter who the coach is, he needs support. I know each coach has had some support, but there hasn't been a coach yet that has gotten full support. Both communities, Vonore and Madisonville, needs to quit complaining about which town is represented the most. Sure Vonore would like to have their own school again, but the fact of the matter remains that its not happening and this is the school their kids are attending. The Vonore-Madisonville seperation needs to end, it has for the most part with the kids. To prove this point, just look at some of the former coaches and what has happened since they left Sequoyah. David Staff, the first coach for the Chiefs, now at Sweetwater and deep in the playoffs, Scott Meadows, 2 state championships at Alcoa, a brief stint at UT, playoffs with Jefferson County, now a playoff team at William Blount. Steve Smith went back to Crockett County as an assistant, another playoff team. Don Kerley is the only one I am not sure of his location now, but the point is, these coaches have found success because of the support the program has got. I understand we question some of the coaches abilities, and rightly so in some cases, but I think we need to begin to examine our own support of the program as a lack of success in the program, myself included. look back at the Nathan Brackett-led team that was in the playoffs. Standing room only at most of the games, people cheering the team, not complaining about the coaches. This is not a knock in any way, just an example, but even as bad as the records were at Vonore, one thing you could always count on was the stands being full and very supportive of their teams. What has happened? Are we too proud to support the same kids in a different uniform? A coach can only be as good as the program is. I am in no way defending any coach, just questioning the support. How can we have a winning program at Sequoyah? Give it 100% support.
  22. Get your eyes checked then, cause your blind as a bat. I suppose since Sweetwater hit hard too, they must have been trying to hurt someone, huh? Get a life.
  23. You know, unless you were on the sequoyah sideline and heard these comments made, you have no right to make comments like that. And don't tell me you heard it, because I was on the sidelines right next to the coaches and never heard such things, and I'm not deaf! Your coach at Meigs County just talked to me the other day about how respectable and classy your program was, and here you are making false accusations about another program. REAL CLASSY! You apparently have so much knowledge, get an education, a teacher's license, and begin coaching yourself. Until then you do not hold the right to say anything about this program and what you supposedly heard. There may be a lot of things that need attention at Sequoyah, but I assure you no coach has ever made comments like that. As for Bama 14, yes it was a bad way to handle any situation with a coach, but that is something that needs to be resolved in the school system, and not on a message board. If you want to vent, call the director of schools or the principal and voice your complaint. All your doing here is crying, go to were it counts, otherwise it falls on deaf ears.
  24. SPEED KILLS-Polk has a good team. Probably the best in region 3-3A. But Loudon has too much speed, and I'm not just talking about Hawkins, Campbell is the dark horse nobody pays attention to. Loudon got embarrassed last week, looking to take it out on someone. Loudon by 20
  25. I agree although I would flip East Ridge and Grundy.
