Did anybody hear that the A.D. and Gillum had to meet with the TSSAA in Nashville yesterday? If they did how did it go?

Powell suspended eight players for their game friday and I heard that all the a.c. players in question were going to sit out and make sure that this win against halls would not be forfeited.

Why are all the kids that left the Halls program having problems? At Central- Brewer is not playing, Harvey is not playing, Johnson is hurt, Dyer is playing nose- guard and not getting the ball. Smith is hurt at Powell, his dad's recruiting service has not landed the one's he tried to get. (Gaston, Helton) Do you think that they would be better if they stayed were they were suppossed to?

HTV My sources are first hand. If people fail to remember from years ago then that is were the stories change. Duncan and Smith had problems years ago. That came from both of them. They have evidently mended fences. Did Clark call Smith about the SD job? (head or assistant) Also check on the job offer at halls. The way he got all the kids from halls was using the fact that shephard did not offer him a job. Once again fact.

fact- At the time of his departure from powell he and coach duncan did not have a good word to say about each other. If they have made up then that is another story. But they left on bad terms. fact- Smith was offered a position at halls after he was approved over the christmas hollidays by Bob Polston. He recieved the offer after he had already accepted the job at central. But he was offered a position. fact- His poor reputation does not make him acceptable to alot of head coaches. The fact that Stevens is giving him a chance is a credit to coach stevens. Not all would risk there reputation. Are you saying that Huber will not be playing offensive line at powell like he did the second half of the year at central? I am not bashing smith, I am just stating the facts.

HTV- You are a well informed man on powell high school. You are also a man that has integrity. But you are off on a couple things just like you were off on who got the interviews at powell in the summer. 1- There was a problem with Duncan and Smith. It has been mentioned by both of them. After smith left he was known to speak badly of clark and the whole program. 2- Smith was offered a position at Halls but by the time it got back to him he was already at central. 3- If all this is on the up and up then why do players leave their school and follow smith to which ever school he goes to? 4- sure the people at powell are happy he brought them his kids and the best defensive end in the city.

The way we can stop it is go back and hire coaches that are in it for the right reasons. I understand that we need non-teacher coaches because of the shortage but the head coach is responsible for the actions of his assistants. There is a code in coaching that must be followed. DO WHAT IS RIGHT. Do these people not respect FOOTBALL? Remember what your coaches taught you-RESPECT, TEAMWORK, HARD WORK PAYS OFF, SPORTMANSHIP, COMMUNITY, SPIRIT,ECT... We all love the football movies. Junction boys, Rudy, Radio, and even the Longest Yard. In the end the integrity of football and the teachings of the old coaches made everything right. We all are representives of football, lets not let our teachers down.

guys, I am just stating facts and things that might come from the situation with people who try to manipulate the system. I know it has happenned at many places over the years. But is high school athletics not for the education of our kids? What lessons do they learn from all that is going on in these areas. I know you think that I have a beef with Smith but all I am doing is pointing things that have happenned and the possible effects of these actions. JP- Why are all the coaches in Bobcat land leaving? Why did Huber leave a 10 win team year in and year out?

The fact is that Smith has a poor reputation. If you talked to other coaches you would understand. Also you guys hammered central for there exploits in recruiting. Who do you think was responsible for this? Smith and Kelly- both Powell guys. You all love Smith and 4 or 5 years ago he left Powell and said the program was not good enough for his kids. Many of your coaches were on that staff that he left. I guess it easy to forget when he has a 6-5 son and brings another big defensive player with him. The political part was brought by someone else and my point was that powell has played that card before. Also if you go back to the early 90's Coach Kelly had plenty of recruits from all over the city playing for powell. Do you trust D. Smith with your kids or are you just trying to win games? How are the 2 returning starters at defensive end going to respond to not being starters? You cannot sell your soul for wins. I also know that the language that was used at central was loud and vulgar. There is no way that Stevens will allow this to happen at Powell. Is that a problem or does Smith just do whatever it takes to get what he wants?

L.Stevens and Duff have excellent reputations, why would they allow it to be tarnished by hiring a person with a questionable one? Is he that good? Who was the OL coach they demoted for Smith? Are they going to demote M.Lowe from his OC duties for Smith? No matter what they do one of the two will not be happy. As far as Steen goes the point was that Powell does have some political connectionsthat have helped in the past.

Hoot Gibson- a legend as a person and as a coach. Played with Johnny Unitas at Louisville then went to Carson Newman. A defensive mastermind. So good he did not have to watch film to call a game. He was so confident that he would eat hotdogs and drink coffee at half time. He was the DC at Loudon for Chig Ratledge when nobody could beat them. He is the way all coaches should strive to be. We will pray for him.

1. What type of example is D. Smith providing for his kids and players. If you do not like the situation quit and go to some place else and speak badly about were you were at. Coaches are supposed to teach values and character that are involved in football. You cannot sell your soul for winning. 2. Politics- Powell had a QB that had to go to summer school to get eligible. He missed 2 or 3 days of the class for discipline reasons. The rule is if you miss a day of summer school you make an F. The next week he was admitted to another school and allowed to complete his term. The superintendent was a former Powell principal.

I promise you that his name is tarnished in the coaching community. It just is amazing that were he goes so goes kids from other schools. Larry Stevens has a great reputation as a coach and a man of integrity, I wonder why he would risk his reputation on a coach with out the same qualities?

It is strange that everwere that D Smith goes so goes players from the school that he was at before. Are the people at powell not worried about the reputation of there coach. His name is tarnished in the coaching world. When his kids are out of eligibility will he still be coaching or will anyone want him.

Did Smith mend fences with the Powell staff? He had some problem with them when he left and moved to Halls. Many of the current coaches were on this staff that he left. Was his problem with Duncan?

This a question that Knox Central will have to answer this year. Is there success based on Helton and Mac or did it involve the help of Coach Kelly and D.Smith? They also lost Coach Parker and Brown. What is the problem at this highly successful program?

I am just making sure that people do things right. I remember a few years ago that the Powell people were cussing D.Smith for leaving for Halls. I guess he is welcome now that he brings his 6-5 son back. Several members of the current staff were quoted as not liking the reason that he left. Please do not go to the name calling so they won't close the board.

How about the little kids from Halls? Webster has done a great job getting the kids to hang in there through a tough season. And without 2 starters who transfered to fulton and central(powell or some new school ). I guess that blevin's will be taking up his stuff today.

Who are some of the coaches that they turned down?
