This may be the funniest post I've ever read on here. Hey, isn't there a football game tonight?

The '01 and '02 teams of both schools were pretty talented across the board. Since then, Coach Maynord and the crew have taken the SC program to a different level. I do know that GV will play one of their best games of the year tomorrow though, they always do. Amen to tearing down both schools and building one. I guess it's too late for that now though. Also, that semifinals team played way above their talent. That run was the result of a lot of heart and great leadership. Not to downplay their talent, but I just think they were as tough as any team you'll ever see. I do think this SC team is loaded with potential. If they learn to play well together and get a few breaks, this could be a special year.

Yeah, there was no need to call me out, but I don't mind. I have nothing to hide. It's only fair that he should post his own name though if he's going to be posting someone else's. If you're saying that SC's coaching staff is better than Gville's...I agree. Nothing against GV's coaches but I have ultimate respect for SC's staff, for obvious reasons. I agree that 01 and 02 was the last time the rivalry was close in talent. It's hard to argue that you were better when you lost though. On paper, I don't think this game should be close at all, but GV will probably make it closer. This is what they wait for every year. You can say it's the same for us...but it's not anymore. In my opinion, this "rivalry" should die. SC has nothing to gain from it, and GV could get an extra W every year. I look for some fireworks from the SC Offense tomorrow night.

Yes, Gville has lost to SC for 7 straight years because of bad coaching. I love to hear the old gville faithful. You are right about the game meaning something to the players, but it doesn't mean anything more than all the rest of the regular season games. The Owls will come ready to play like they do EVERY OTHER WEEK. This game isn't even as heated as it was 4 years ago, when the kitties were pretty talented and even then it wasn't the SC's players biggest game. I can guarantee that. Owls roll by 3 scores. The real question...what's the over/under on Quarterback draws...I'll take the over.

Come on Bigreid, Are you asking oldsc7 if he feels important?!?!? I think we all know the answer to that question. My prediction for friday...for the 2nd year in a row the owls knock off the future 3A state champions.

I thought you always hated running to the left side oldsc7. Tell me about this year's club. How are they looking other than the White House scrimmage? Are they as fast as I suspect?

Oh, no no. I'm still black and gold to the core. I figure why even argue with our faux rivals. Maybe they'll win one in the next 15 or so years and actually have something to talk about. What is this I hear about a wide open offense this year? Are we going to be lighting up the scoreboard?

I'm thinking that I'll make the trip to Livingston to watch this one. I can't miss the atmosphere that i know LA will have, and I want to see Cates play again. Ya'll LA guys will have to hook me up with some blue and white, us Smith County people don't have any of that in our wardrobe. I can't wait for friday night, it should be a great one. Congrats to Boyd for making the plays to win last night. Make some noise and go get tyner. I just want to say congratulations to these Owl seniors. At the beginning of the year everyone talked about how they had no heart, or they were just riding the past success of the program. I am proud to say that I watched a bunch of boys grow into men this year. The seniors stepped up to lead this team and it showed on the field. I wanna say a special congratulations to Billy Plummer. I played with him when he was a freshman and we thought it was just hilarious to see this skinny kid catch a touchdown pass against cannon county. I'm proud to see that he has become one of the most clutch receivers that I have seen at SC. He steps up at crucial times and embodies everything SC football is all about, Heart and determination. He never gives up and it showed in last night's game. Congratulations to all the seniors. Keep your heads up and be glad to have been another part of SC's tradition.

Great Post. I agree wholeheartedly with every word. You always hear about SCP and that post explained it for me. I made brothers for life on that field and will never forget the memories, good and bad. The work and fun I shared with those other guys on that field made me who I am today and will continue to guide me as I go further. Again, Great Post. There's no feeling in the world like wearing the black and gold for all of Smith County.

Maybe I am a little biased, but I can't see how the teams in the 80's were more athletic. Go back just 3 years to the backfield of Ward, Hackett, and Gibbs, It's hard to beat that athleticism anywhere. I'm not sure about yardage, but I bet Oldsc7 or bigreid could help me out on total rushing yards for hackett and ward. On defense in the past few years you have the Hix brothers who were both outstanding linebackers. Wilmore, IMO, is the toughest player i have seen in an owl uniform. McConnel could turn out to be the best lineman ever to come out of SC. I believe Coach Maynord called Brady the most accurate quarterback he has ever coached last year also. The teams of the past 5 or 6 years are definitely not lacking athleticism.

Well guys, I checked Gordonsville's schedule for tomorrow night and they don't play carthage. They play SMITH COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL. If you're coming to see the gordonsville-carthage game u might wanna come in...say 1940? Anyway, the Owls will come out with the fire they always have after a loss. When's the last time SC lost 2 in a row? It's not going to happen friday night. Good Luck to both teams. Good post. I agree that Dirkson is the best player to come out of Smith County, but it doesn't mean his teams were the best. He hit the holes like no other high school back. I can guarantee that SC has not been playing "cream puffs" in the playoffs the last few years. In just the past few years, we have been eliminated from the playoffs by 2 state champions and a couple really good Trousdale County teams. I also agree that there is no substitute for good old fashioned farm strength, but the game of football isn't necessarily about strength. I would say that the teams of the past 6-7 years are the most consistent in SC history.I just hope this year's team can live up to that consistency. Last of all, please don't complain about coaching, we have it better than most other teams in the state when it comes to coaching. A staff that really cares about the players and always brings out the best in each player is irreplaceable.

That's about the same speed that Smith County has. The SC DB's only got burnt one time....they were in position, but the Fulton players went up and got the ball. Great athletes. Greenbriar better bring everything they have in this game. Good Luck to both teams.

I had heard that the falcon players had been known to taunt fans after the game and was looking for it. I saw 2 players come off the sideline excited and thought "here it comes." Those 2 players stopped at Matt Dyer and picked him up and congratulated him. I'm glad I wasn't the only one to notice it. It was a great show of class and really impressed me. I was impressed by all the fulton people. The sign was a bit tacky, but I understand that players and coaches have nothing to do with that. Great game fulton and good luck next week.

I'm the first SC fan back on here and you won't get any griping out of me. Fulton beat us. I'm sure that Fulton fans will agree that the 33-6 score doesn't tell the story. SC dropped a TD pass that would have given us a chance to tie the game in the 3rd quarter, but then we turn around and give up 1 of what seemed like 80 deep passes. Fulton is very good. Their defense is very underrated. Athleticism at WR and DB won this game for Fulton tonight. Also, when you turn the ball over 5 or 6 times against a team like that you have almost no shot of winning. I want to be the 1st to say congrats to this SC team. They are a hard nosed group full of heart. They made the whole county proud. Good luck to all the seniors. Keep your head up. We are all proud of you.

Just a little jab at some portland fans that said we pay off the refs in the hole. No disrespect meant. I know that you never claimed that. The point that I was trying to make is that with twice as many penalties as their opponents this season Fulton may be undisciplined. I KNOW the owls capitalize on mistakes so this could be big in this game. Also, about the Owls having that doubt in their head. I know these players and they have no doubts. They know what they are capable of and they don't believe that anyone will beat them.

If you play and are a starter like u say, take it from someone that you probably know and respect.....get off coacht and go study film. Let us has beens do the talking on here. Get it done on the field friday night and we will continue to talk for you.

Just wanted to commend whoever does the work on www.fultonfootball.com. Great site. Something that jumped out at me was the penalties. Fulton has almost twice as many penalties over the season as their opponents. Penalties could be big friday night. I was wondering if Portland would help us out and take up collections and send them our way for this one. I appreciate the answer kwalker. I'm looking forward to seeing ya'll roll into town. Wow all this talk from 2 teams that haven't seen each other play. I don't know much about Fulton.....they will be fast and strong for sure. I am sure they are well coached, but I have a feeling a big difference in this game could be coaching and discipline. This SC team is the MOST disciplined high school football team I've ever seen. Especially on the defensive side of the ball. These guys do not miss assignments and are always filling their gaps. If the D-line can keep the O-line off the linebackers it could be a long night for the falcons. I do have a question for the falcon fans. Ya'll talk a lot about last year and I'm wondering how much does this team resemble last year's team? I know you lost an excellent player at quarterback and the stevens kid. Yeah region football won't be as much fun next year. We should keep TC and Macon on the schedule at least. So there is a couple of fun games. We will also probably pick up Friendship Christian or someone else. I'm ready for friday. It needs to hurry up and get here. All I want for my birthday is a trip to the semis.
