big country, Sounds like Clarksville Academy played pretty good considering they are A and Rossview is AAAA. Rossview only scored 1 offensive TD in 40 minutes, sounds like they have work to do on offense. The paper said CA never crossed the 50 yd line all night. Sounds like they have some work to do on offense also.

hhsbball12, Good to hear bball is going well. I have seen you play many times over the past 3 years both for the Devils and AAU and I am surprised you have not been offered. Hang in there the offers will come. Can't get over the Carter score, I definetely thought it would be different. I don't care about scrimmages, just look at Webb jamboree last year. We took our licking and went 7-3 and made the playoffs. I have a feeling the same will happen this year.

Think Carter but am not positive. With my shift change at work I have been out of the loop. But I hope to see next week's game against Sevier Co.

powellfan, You mean no players quit at Powell, you can keep everyone out that comes out. Congrads on that accomplishment, now if you could just keep your FORMER PLAYERS out of the headlines, you could have really accomplished something, slick.

The panthers will find a way to screw it up, don't worry. Their schedule is not any tougher than anyone else's schedule. They play two privates that they should be able to compete with, but Webb normally whips them most of the time, McCallie is always one of the better privates and Farragut has been up lately but they have the tendency to be an up and down team. If they can keep the off-field problems to a minimum then they should have a chance. Sounds like we are talking about the boys on the hill doesn't it. Just glad we don't have all of the Panther's baggage here at the Crossroads.

I could not believe my eyes when I purchased by gold card and saw the Sullivan North name on my schedule. Now granted I did not notice it until someone pointed it out, but I feel my the cards should be sent back to the printer and be redone. Terrible that a company would not let someone proof this stuff before sending them out.

Did not make this scrimmage (some people have to work, but I will make Friday night's) and heard about Coach Ward. All my thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family. If anyone has any information on hospital and such, let us know so we can go by and see him. By the way how did the scrimmage end up. Can't wait for this Friday, lights on, Neyland Stadium, KOC jamboree, it just can't get any better (unless it is Sat and the Big Orange are kicking butt). Bet Webb goes down this year to the mighty Devils!

powellfan, How do you know if I know the Smith's personally or not. You say you grew up with Lee, does that mean you moved to Halls when Darryl got mad at the coach at Powell, then moved to transferred to Central, then to Powell. Are you a gyspy or do you just blow smoke. I wish Lee Smith HAD NOT gotten into the problems he has put himself into - I wish he had enough sense and discipline to not do these things. I wish he was going to play for the Big Orange. He has tremendous athletic ability but his brain is about the size of a popcorn husk. And if you don't like it bring your butt to Halls and I will beat you and make you like it, SLICK. p.s. I do know this family well, in fact real, real, real WELL.

getright, Don't be mad at ole HTV. He's just mad because a former Powell player that has an abundance of athletic talent and ALMOST did what he wanted, when he wanted, got caught. HTV, I knew you couldn't take it and you would comeback with something like "kiss my but, pal". Hey, Lee Smith can learn his lesson if he wants to and be an outstanding college player. Or, he won't learn diddley and continue down the path he is heading. Either way, the parents are a guiding force. HTV, in your original post you said you wonder what goes or gets into adult minds. Were you including Lee as an adult? Or were you simply shifting all of the blame to the assistant principal (who has yet not been proven guilty). Lee Smith on the other hand has been proven guilty of driving on a sidewalk at UT, failing to initially stop for a police vehicle, hitting a parked car, and refusing to take a soberity field test. Do you think fat Phil would boot off a son of a UT legend (if only in DS's mind) without PROOF of his guilt.

scbear, You are right Brewer has been around the block a time or two. Didn't SC get into trouble a few years back about illegal scrimmages in Chatt.? What he did is not illegal. From what I understand you can take the weights out into the parking lot and lift, you just can not have any coach or school personnel present when it happens. To have the seniors take a leadership role, even at the urging of Brewer, is a good idea to me. Bet if a certain Powell player had played at SC he would not be facing the trouble his is now facing.

Holy balls Batman, I think we need to give our nickname to the community on the "other" side of I-75. "POWELL HAS IT". If you hang around Powell very long you might git "IT". I have looked back to page 5 of this post and nowhere is a post by my old buddy HTV. Don't blame ya bub, I wouldn't get on here and post either. Let's look at this from the git-go: lived in Powell when dad coached there, moved to Halls when dad left Powell, transfers to Central when Dad goes there to coach, Dad goes to Powell when he gets mad at Helton, son goes to Powell when he gets mad at basketball coach, smoke bomb at Target, drinking in high school, signs with UT, "alleged" inappropiate conduct with an administrator (who goes into his bedroom at 7:30 am to play a prank, with knowledge of parents), goes to summer school at UT, gets pulled over at 3:57 AM (if you can't git r dun before midnight, go home) drunk as Johnny Majors, hits a parked car. I mean the hits just keep on rollin'. Now Powellfan, I am not making fun of the Smith's. If this young man does not get help quickly, it may be to late. At some point in time everyone must grow up and be accountable for their actions - Lee has not made this venture yet. And Daryl keeps covering his butt and that does not help anyone in that dysfunctional family. What are the younger brothers having to go through with their big brother facing all of this crap. There is one tihing that is certain - this young man is a talented athlete. He just hasn't figured out all of the "other" stuff that he has to do to showcase his talents (go to class, make the grades, stay out of the papers, etc.) I hope he does get a second chance or third or fourth chance which ever it is, because he has the talent to play, he just doesn't have "IT".

For the second time, Logan O"Connor, Knoxville Halls. He will be better than his brother was in 2002, when he was the best kicker in the state. Logan actually punts the ball better than his brother did back then, and his brother is the kicker & punter for University of Marshall now.

HTV, You didn't say anything about the assistant principal that was accused nor the principal, nor Lee Smith. You said, "what goes through adult's minds", and "Mark Majors,..."

What is this world coming to? I leave and go to Orange Beach for some r & r for a few days, come back and bingo, Lee Smith and the Powell Panthers are in the news. All I know is what I read here and in the paper and hear from people in our community. Pity on the Smith family, how much more controversey can they take (transfer here, there, everywhere, dad gets mad at Joel, etc.). HTV, you are truly a great man. No one can stand behind the Smith's and the Panthers through all of this over the past 3-4 years and not go crazy.

cbq, You can't have spring fling the 2nd Monday of June. What would happen with all of the AAU basketball team practices, kids would be competing in the fling and their coaches would get mad.

As much as I would like to see us return to the playoffs again this year, I am afraid we won't make it. We lost a ton of seniors from last year's team including the entire defense. This year we will be down, but next year, watch out we will kick some butt and have a chance to win the region. As if some of you don't remember, we were the last region team to beat the Rebels from Maryville, and we will be the next one to do so. Just don't think it will be this year.
