  1. Coach Morris put it in perspective in his postgame interview, Milan simply didn't play up to their potential. Good enough the past four weeks to win against average opponents, but, must step it up now heading into region play with Humboldt, Huntingdon, Trenton, Dresden, and Martin Westview. Milan is a well coached team and they will be ready for the next five weeks. As I have said before, Region 7-2A is the most talent ladened and difficult region in the state. Region champs in other areas would struggle in this region as well. As for the Bruins, here's wishing you all a good rest of the season. We have moved on from last week and will be a better team because of the week 4. Coach Morris and his staff prepare their players to rise from adversity and not make excuses. I know that they will take each game a week at a time and will give everything that they have to reach the goals that this team has for the year. Baddawg.
  2. Prayers from the fans in Bulldog Country. Seems like alot of kids playing with a heavy heart this year...Bruceton, Huntingdon, Dyersburg, Martin, etc. Keeps the game in perspective. Kudos to McKenzie for a win in Huntingdon. Bulldog fans have suffered a number of losses in the past to the Mustangs and we know how hard it is to win there. In two weeks they come to Milan and I know that Coach Mansfield will have his "A" game when he comes packing. Many successes to the Rebels on the rest of the year. Baddawg.
  3. Prayers from Bulldog Country in Milan. Dyersburg scrimmages Milan every year during their camp. Good man and a good team. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
  4. If you have a chance, read the letter written by Alred's father that is in this week's Milan Mirror Exchange. David is a class act and normally reserved, but responding like any father would in this situation. As for this week, Milan wins big at homecoming. Looking forward to Luke Postoak being back in action. He's just a sophomore with a cannon arm and decent foot speed that gives him good movement. Starters should play just the 1st half and then we will see next year's team line up in the 2nd half. Should be able to play everyone who dresses out. Milan 56 Manassas 6 (6 will come against our 3rd or 4th string)
  5. With the weapons that P.A. Pratt has at Crockett Co., they should go a long way in the playoffs. Come December hopefully they will be representing West TN in Murfreesboro.
  6. This past Friday night in the USJ vs. Milan game Sr. Fullback, Austin Alred, was injured on a controversial play. The last word is that it is a torn MCL and a ruptured ACl. What a way to end your senior year as a captain and leader of the Milan team. As for Alred, I know that through the upcoming days that he will work hard to rehab and get back to normal. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. Austin, you are a class act and great football player! Go Dawgs! Let`s just stay with the thoughts and prayers and keep this thread about Austin and a complete recovery.
  7. Based on what I saw with the Milan vs. USJ game, Fayette Academy should win this game. USJ spent the entire night throwning short stop routes. Man up on these guys and some of them can burn you. Bill Hardegree does a good job of managing the offense. USJ is a little short on size but has alot of speed. Here's hoping that the actions of a couple or three players for USJ in the Milan game was an exception. Keep the play clean and players will not be intentionally hurt.
  8. Not only is Milan's Freshman team loaded, the sophomore class is awesome. You've seen a little with J.W. Williams and Tristan Pierson(?). The sophomore QB, Luke Postoak, who was to be the backup to Wells is injured and probably will not play this year. Luke Jackson, LB and Fullback, hurt in the Crockett Co. game will not play this year. As the old saying goes, Milan doesn't rebuild, it reloads. Looking at the stable of upcoming dawgs, it looks mighty promising.
  9. Milan vs. Humboldt is week 6 and already garnering alot of attention. This rivalry has always been heated going all the way back to the Poteete vs. Tucker era. One thing that we can learn from history is that you can display class like these two coaches did and still do. On the field they were true opponents, off the field they were friends. I remember when The Milan Quarterback Club was raising money for the field house addition and Coach Poteete was the headliner at the "John Tucker Roast." The two gentlemen remain friends today and keep the game in perspective. With the level of talent on these two teams, it seems that each is loaded and focused on making it to the playoffs. Let's take it one game at a time and see how it all plays out. As strong as Region 7-2A is, probably the strongest 2A in the state, each game is vitally important to where you end up in the playoffs. Conceivably, a team could wind up with 2 region losses and be home during the playoffs. I know that Coach Morris and Coach Bland will keep each team focused on each game and be ready come week 6. One interesting note is that when Coach Bland took over for Coach Tucker at Milan he hired a young assistant from Henry Co. by the name of Coach Jeff Morris. GO DAWGS! Milan - 49 USJ - 7
  10. Based on what USJ and Milan have displayed in the first weeks of the season this should be another win for the Bulldogs. USJ will come with its "A" game and try to dethrone the "dawgs." Milan's speed, athleticism, and depth will be the key to the game. USJ has certainly struggled since moving up a classification to 2A and joined the strongest Region in West TN and possibly the entire state. The dawgs will roll in this one. Milan - 49 USJ - 7
  11. Should be a hard hitting game with both teams returning alot of starters on both sides of the ball. For P.A. Pratt and one of his assistants, Andy Brady, this game is always a chance to show their hometown folks how far the Cavaliers have come. Both coaches played at Milan under John Tucker and are excellent coaches and have done a tremendous job with Crockett Co. The key for Milan is ball control, which should be good for this year's team. With an experienced O-Line that averages around 265 and moves well, most teams with be pressed to stop Milan's running game. With horses like Austin Alred and Brian Bledsoe, Milan is loaded, much like the 2003 team. Don't forget Lydale Wells at Q'back who can run and throw. Defense is a work in progress. With the two starters returning from National Guard Boot Camp, these young men should bring added depth. Look for some seniors to step up with leadership and explosion. My take on the game is that Milan should prevail with a ball control offense in a close one. Milan 28 - Crockett Co. 21.
  12. DearOldDad, you are insane if you think that Huntingdon's coaches are better than Milan's. How many state championships have Mansfield and his boy's won or gone to. That's what I thought, think before you write that kind of mess.
  13. The Dawgs have played up to their potential most of the time this year. Against JCM, Trenton, and Covington the Dawgs played well at times, but, without the normal emotion to match the play of their opponents. Being a game for the region title, huge rivalry game with cross county rival, and a long tradition for respect and dislike for the Vikings, the DAWGS rise to the occasion for a huge win. Milan 34 - Humboldt 21
  14. Yesterday, Feb. 26, four of Milan H.S. Seniors committed to play college football. Starting right tackle Ryan Barnes who was a three year starter signed with Austin-Peay University in Clarksville. Terricus Davis (three year starter), Chad Autry (two year starter), and George West (three year starter) signed with Cumberland University in Lebanon. They will join several other former Bulldogs who are contributing to the Cumberland progam. This makes 7 seniors who have signed to play football in the fall. Congratulations to all of these seniors!!
  15. Mr. 2A Back, Rod Smith has decided to keep it close to home and join the Memphis Tigers with a full 4year scholarship. Family and friends, along with the recent success of Memphis weighed into his decision. Also, Memphis' starting safety graduates and Smith is confident about gaining some playing time. We look forward to watching him in the next few years take his game to another level. Future opponents need to watch out for this young man. Because, not only can he fly, he can hit and hit hard. Good luck to a very deserving young man.
  16. Thanks SLS. I couldn't find that info. in the Jackson Sun.
  17. Kudos to the folks from Covington. I must say that I was impressed with the facilities, as well as, the hospitality. Milan came to town for a big game and the folks from Covington were very hospitable. When we entered the gate there was a man who talked with us and asked about the Dawgs. Made us feel very much at home. Thanks to all the folks. Good luck on the rest of your season. Certainly, you are a very talented team.
  18. According to the Jackson Sun Covington had 230 yards rushing. I believe that Grandberry had at least 130 yards.
  19. Actually, this game is for the region championship and homefield advantage. If Humboldt could pull this game off, they would be crowned champions and have homefiled advantage. But, that is highly unlikely, unless Milan completely melts down. The Covington game served as a wake up call for the Dawgs. Should be a good game. It is the oldest rivalry in West TN and is lined with many stories. Milan remains undefeated on Senior Night. Milan - 48 Humboldt - 7 Too many weapons for a improving team. GO DAWGS!
  20. Michael Grandberry did have a good night, but, what about Rod Smith. Over 180 yards rushing and numerous tackles and a key pass deflection in the end zone as time was running out. Definitely a top 2A back of the year. GO DAWGS!
  21. Milan's Rod Smith for 2A; Over 1,000 yards through 8 games. Must remember he hasn't played the entire games except for 2.

    Ryan Headrick

Our thoughts and prayers for Ryan and his family. From all of the Bulldogs down Milan way.
  23. Certainly this is an important game for both teams. Covington looks to avenge a playoff loss in 1999. Milan looks to remain unbeaten and go into their last game, which is a region game, with momentum for the playoffs. Should be a real good game. Covington has speed and size and can throw and run. Milan has speed and size with an arsenal of weapons. Don't believe, just ask Huntingdon. You key on Rod or Daylan and Milan strikes with the unexpected. A word to Covington, JCM keyed in on Rod and our fullback rushed for almost 159 yards. Here's looking for a good clean game from both sides. Lay aside all of the talk and "let's play football." GO DAWGS!
