  1. I do not understand what the fuss is about. It's as if people were expecting Coffee County to be favored to win this game. No way. Franklin County has played the stronger teams in a much better fashion, and at home they should've been favored. Why do so many of the people here seem surprised by the result? Clearly, Franklin County had the bigger and faster players on offense especially. All you have to do is look at how big they are compared to the Coffee guys and see how they are not outran. No Footballfanatic, you don't have to know anything about football to realize that this kid is taller and bigger than that kid and that this kid is faster than that kid. I mean, an old lady can look at kid #1 and kid #2 and see who's bigger and taller. And when they are running down field she can see which kid is faster. FC's rushing game was led by quicker guys. Forget about this game and move on. It won't change anything. Coffee, even with a win over Lincoln County would still finish 3rd in the region because of overall records and the head-to-head matchup with Franklin County.
  2. Howard? Are you kidding me? Lincoln County will pulverize this team just like the others before them. Why would things be different now and against a Class 3A program no less?
  3. Some bowls are still played today such as the Lions Bowl in Tullahoma and the Nurseryman's Bowl in McMinnville.
  4. Actually, before there was the playoff system instilled by the TSSAA our high school championship games were played in bowl games. I remember reading somewhere that a Coffee County Red Raider team back in the 50's or 60's went 13-0 for the year defeating some state powers such as Shelbyville, Tullahoma, Murfreesboro Central, Smithville Central, and McMinnville Central which cultimated in a Tobacco Bowl victory over Carthage.
  5. I hear the Pigeon Forge Tigers aren't doing too hot this year. They play in Region 1-3A. Here's how they've done so far: Aug. 29 Greenback L 13-14 Sep. 5 at Union Co. R W 33-26 Sep. 12 at Gatlinburg-Pittman L 13-42 Sep. 19 at Claiborne R W 41-0 Sep. 26 Lenoir City L 7-34 Oct. 3 at Sullivan North R L 19-20 Judging from the scores and who they've played I say Cumberland County should win against this team in convincing fashion.
  6. If this was a college game and this was on the Vegas Insider Odds, I can bet you that with Jake Nunley hampered this one would be taken off the boards. It's really that close.
  7. I dunno'. I think most of my reasoning in this one is the guess that maybe Walker Valley will look past Warren County. That'd be something though if the Pioneers did win. Walker Valley beat Grundy County earlier this season. If the Warren County defense doesn't tighten up than WV will win, but I'm guessing it will. Even if it doesn't I don't think Walker Valley will be able to win by 20. I think even Warren County will make this game close even in a loss.
  8. Tidwell's absence in McMinnville may be the turning point to something better. The 13 points Warren County scored on Cumberland County has to be something to smile about considering the Pioneers have been shutout in every single game by large margins except in Week Zero when WC managed to get it into the endzone once against Livingston Academy. But even then the defense of Warren County could not stop Livingston from scoring 42 points. Well I believe the Pioneers will win this weekend. That's right, I'm reverting my opinion that Warren County will go winless. I believe that Warren County will beat Walker Valley this next Friday night. It cetainly seems that the offensive line gave the quarterback and the runningbacks some better looks against Cumberland than it has all season. Now whether or not it has to do with Tidwell resigning and a new coach stepping up is merely speculation and cannot be proven. Book it now, ladies and gents--Pioneers will win against Walker Valley next Friday.
  9. Will Nunley play? I hear he's questionable for Grundy. Not good going up against a forminable Class 3A opponent if he's out. This game appears that it will be close--alot closer than what Manchester saw in Lebanon two weeks ago or in Winchester last night. I'm guessing the game will be decided by 3-points or less only because it seems like these two teams are about even with each other in the respects of talent and coaching. But that's just a thought. Take it with a grain of salt. I never played football therefore I don't know anything about the sport so nothing I say should be taken seriously. They're just thoughts.
  10. No, I did not. I was working. And from the way it looks, I'll be working on Friday nights from now on. Even so, it's about where I expected. I thought it'd be FC 42 CC 20. I heard it could've even been worse than that. I don't know. I didn't see the game. I didn't listen to the game so I'm not making any comments except that Franklin County won as most people would expect.
  11. Franklin County will be the #2 seed in Region 3-5A in the playoffs and if things play out as they appear, the Rebels will host either Smyrna or Oakland in the first round. Coffee County has pretty much sealed the #3 seed in the region. Their only shot at the #1 seed is to knock off Lincoln County and I think we all know what the chances of that actually happening are. Coffee County may as well pack up their bags for the 1st round of the playoffs because they'll be hitting the road likely northward to Rutherford County to face either Oakland or Smyrna. The 4th and final seed of Region 3-5A will be decided in two weeks when Cookeville travels to Crossville to face the Jets of Cumberland County which I would think Cumberland has to be a slight favorite.
  12. Was Tidwell coaching this game or was it the interim coach? I heard Warren County's offensive line played better last night than they have all season. But I am surprised that the Pioneers scored 13 on Cumberland County.
  13. It wasn't just the interceptions, Owl, it was also poor ball handling. The first play of the first offensive drive of the game (which just so happened to be Coffee's) resulted in a fumble. You can't tell me that Nunley isn't strong enough to hold onto the football. But then again, I didn't play football while I was in school therefore I don't know anything about football. It's a rule you know that anyone who has never played the game doesn't know anything about it. Oh well, it just certainly seemed with all the fumbles in that game that poor ball-handling looked to be a problem unless the Wilson Central defenders were just strong enough to knock the ball free and Coffee's rushers weren't as strong enough to hold on. I'll just let you pick between the two thoughts since I don't know anything about football and there's no way I could know since I wasn't playing in the game or have never played football. Oh well, I look at the game similar to some matchups in the college ranks. It's like a middle-of-the-road team from a lower conference playing a doormat from a major conference and just getting whipped. 3-5A's power ratings are up with the major assistance of Lincoln County's presence. Overall, 4-5A is the stronger region. And Wilson Central proved that by being 7th in a region of 8 teams and beating a team with their at-best shot of finishing 2nd in another region (I say 2nd under the belief that maybe Coffee could beat Franklin County but still stands little to no shot at beating Lincoln County).
  14. Owl98, here are the official stats from that game: Total Yards Coffee 371 Wilson 199 Rushing Yards Coffee 247 Wilson 170 Rushing Attempts Coffee 33 Wilson 48 Passing Attempts Coffee 13 completions out of 33 attempts with 3 INTERCEPTIONS Wilson 2 completions out of 7 attempts with 1 interception Passing Yards Coffee 124 Wilson 29 First Downs Coffee 12 Wilson 9 Now it certainly appears that Wilson Central struggled offensively especially in the passing game, but since I don't know jack squat about football since I've never played so I've been told that such reasoning is adequate of someone who knows nothing about football, I can't be sure that the Wildcats actually struggled in the passing game. I'm just saying, judging from the stats it certainly appears to be that way.
  15. I agree Owl, especially on defense, but Coffee County leveled Wilson Central offensively in every way, shape, and form. And truthfully without the turnovers, Coffee County wins in blowout fashion. I don't know what the school record for turnovers in a single game is for Coffee, but I wouldn't doubt that is was broken last Friday night.
  16. Upon finding out about what the incident at Mepham High School in Long Island where three varsity football players apparently were involved in a hazing incident that involved sexual misconduct with three junior varsity players the school district there took quick action--their first, cancelling the entire football season for the high school. Those three students involved in the enforcing of the haze now face criminal charges but did the school board go too far in cancelling the entire football season? I'm torn on the issue. The school is no doubt being presented to other schools as an example to what will happen if you pull such a stunt, but was it too harsh? What about the kids who play on the football team who are senior college prospects that weren't involved in the incident? They appear to be the most affected by this decision because it could weigh on their shot at playing at the next level. But really, there are three guilty young men and all of their innocent teammates must now pay the price for their actions. What's the consensus? Is this decision by the Long Island school district fair?
  17. UTDontPlay said: This is clearly the case of one fan of a school gone over the edge. This could've been anyone's fan. Last year when MTSU played at Alabama they had one dude there with a decorated papier mache model of Bear Bryant with a hallow and a set of angel wings on him looking down on a minature model of Bryant-Denny Stadium with the phrase "The Bear Still Shines Down on the Tide". They take their tradition with Bear Bryant to the extremes, it's as if these Alabama fans actually think his spirit is still among them at their football games in Tuscaloosa. I'm not going to take that away from 'Bama fans. It's going to be one of those things that they are going to carry--that and their ten or twelve national championships which they seem to be able to tell you from memory what years they claimed all of those championships. Alabama fans are an interesting lot. Give them that much. But I've always wondered what the deal with the elephant was.
  18. Not a Vol fan, but I thought this was neat. Article from the Knoxville News Sentinel (with picture available): http://www.knoxnews.com/kns/gv_columnists/...2303949,00.html
  19. Alright that's it! All I hear are people putting words into my mouth. I never said anything bad about our players. All I said was that God fated them with a program that was a traditional football powderpuff for more than 25 years and more and that I felt that their success was related to the apathy of the town itself and it's refusal to make swift progress when it had the opportunities. And while I don't know what it is like to work hard in football in the weight room or on the practice field, I do know what it is like to work hard at something--I was in the band all four years, and before you laugh and say band ain't jack squat and doesn't work hard, then you don't know band. In my four years of high school, our marching band had a great deal of success and to this day they've been successful, but they have a great band director at Coffee County that has been dedicated to that school for a really long time unlike the football program that's had more coaches in the past ten years than anyone else! Our band director pushed us hard; we spent really late nights in camps and practices just to give our fans something to cheer for for only a mere 8 minutes at a football game! But it also pays dividends when you win the Chancellor's cup at prestigious competitions held at Vanderbilt and other places where some of the best marching bands in the area come to compete! So I know what it is like to work hard at something. Here recently, I spent an entire year working hard, running every day up to 5 miles a day for the last two months leading up to my departure to Parris Island. I drove up to Murfreesboro's YMCA two to three times a week and would spend hours in the pool just swimming back and forth! I would spend time in the gym two to three times a week in the weight room just doing what I needed to do to be the best Marine I could be. I went to Parris Island this past summer. I thought I would become a Marine. Medical Boards found something wrong with me, so I took an early exit. I have no job still because I quit a very good job to follow what I thought was the Lord's plan for my life. I have tried to get my job back, but I haven't heard anything from those guys since I took my drug test almost two weeks ago. I was on my way of fulfilling a childhood dream to become a U.S. Marine and fight for my country during a time of military unrest in our nation. But I was prepared because I had the Lord with me. You can only guess how devastated I was when they told me, you can't go on so we're sending you home! I'm sure my level of devastation was more gutwrenching than the devastation felt of losing a game of some kind. This wasn't a game. This is real life. I would think anything that had to do with real life was more important than some game. I don't know what God has planned for me, and I know I've made alot of poor choices in my life. And no doubt coming on this board was one of them. The Bible says the tongue is as dangerous as a poisonous asp. Jesus also said to be slow to speak and quick to hear. I was wrong. See you folks later.
  20. Hold on Jake (JoeMontanaIs. . . .), You don't have to be a member of the football team to see there are problems. The 1997 loss to Tullahoma was the most hurt I've ever been. Their fans were trying to rip down our goal posts for crying out loud! That made me very upset. But while I did not actually play, I was at all the football games having attended all 41 of them in my high school career. I am very proud to have gotten to graduate with a host of star Red Raiders like Chris Elam, Aaron Price, Dustin Murray, Josh Clark, the list goes on and on! These were guys who helped lead our team to their first and only playoff game ever! When I ran for class office my senior year, I started my speech off with something in reference to the lack of school spirit and why it is wrong not to support your team and what efforts could be made to get the students more interested! Jake, it is wrong for you to tell me that I don't know what I'm talking about when I watched up fall to Tullahoma by 1-point in 1994 at Wilkins Stadium in Tullahoma! And it doesn't stop with football! I was at numerous basketball games too! And even though I graduated, I was one of the first to write a letter to the TSSAA to express my displeasure with the softball team being banned from postseason play back when they ruled Coffee Co. would be banned due to a curse word that was said by a fan at an umpire and was loud enough for that umpire to hear! So don't tell me I don't know what it means to be supportive! Yeah, our football team is 4-1, but the teams next four opponents are against teams with winning records except for Franklin County who just played four really good teams. You will be able to get a better picture of how good Coffee County truly is in these next four games! I can bet you that Lincoln County, Sweetwater, Grundy County, and Franklin County could all beat the five teams we've already faced. So, Jake, you will get your chance at seeing whether or not this version of Coffee County football is as good as we all believed they were. It all starts in Winchester Friday night. They are ranked there right next to Coffee County though slightly higher. We shall see. NO BODY SHOWED THEIR SCHOOL SPIRIT EVERYDAY OF HIGH SCHOOL LIKE I DID! NO BODY! And to the one who calls himself "MyNameIs"--I could care less what you think about me. I could care less if you knew me. Obviously, I do admit who I am once exposed, so I'm not afraid that some axe-murderer would come stalking me as such has occurred by revealing identities over Intenet Chat Lines! You should watch the news. But one thing I am not is a COWARD! I bet I've put more money in the Coffee County athletics program than you have, so I don't see where you have room to put me down!
  21. BigA52 said: LOL! I hope Footballfanatic and JoeMontanaIsMyHero are paying attention. That's "Pressley" and yes, you got me. I don't know how you know me since you were born in 1986, Mr. Cutshaw. How is it that a current junior at Tullahoma high school knows everything about me being only 16 or 17 years old and here I am at the age of 24 and I can promise I've never heard of your name before? BigA52 also said: HA! HA! HA! You are a piece of work. I think I said something about this on this board already. I graduated 9th in my class of 333 students. There was only one male in my entire graduating class ranked ahead of me. I was highly respected by the teachers of Coffee County Central and I to this day still give them the utmost respect for the one valuable thing they gave me--a solid education. BTW, if you're from Manchester, then how come you play for Tullahoma? AND who told you who I was? I want names. Anyone I graduated with? It's still classic. Despite all my rants and raves about Coffee County Central High School, I still love 'em and still put the money up to support them. I guess you get sick and tired of seeing your school do bad all the time it's kind of frustrating when you feel helpless. Oh well. It could be worse. I could be a Vandy fan. :usa:
  22. Fanatic4Football said: I was referring to Ed Nunley, the defensive coordinator at Coffee County. I just fear that his tenure at Coffee County will be as short as his son, Jake's.
  23. CHS4Life said in reference to Manchester's Interstate Exits, Exit 105 and 117 are considered inside the city of Manchester as well. 105 leads to Beechgrove 117 leads to Manchester's Industrial Park one way and AEDC the other way So Manchester has five exits. Tullahoma's municipal airport has been a gateway to the town's commercial industry. It is easier to ship things overnight by plane than to ship them in semi trucks down the interstate.
  24. Classy post, TK6Under. I must say. Tullahoma's USMC ROTC program is quite admirable. I wished Coffee could've had USMC ROTC, but all they have is Air Force ROTC. Don't get me wrong. I'm not taking anything away from the Air Force or the ROTC program at Coffee. It's just that I'd participated in ROTC if it were Marine Corps. CHS4Life and others inquiring, I do regret not playing any sports, but if the USMC discharged me for my problem then chances are I wouldn't have been able to play sports either. Besides, there are not that many options for a person who is 5' 8" and 145lbs. Too short for basketball and football and those would be the only sports I'd be intersted in playing the most. At the time I was slow so I couldn't do Track. However, I'm pretty athletic now since under a weight training program inspired and motivated at my initial joining of the Marine Corps. Still, I never got into sports as a kid. I guess it never grew on me. However, the love of the game did grow on me. I helped design one of our Pep Club Shirts one year. The one that included the "Ten Raider Rules" on the back. I helped design the front that included the school's emblem.
  25. ELA, I would be more in favor of dropping Old Timer's Day if I knew we could have something more positive in it's place. So far, Manchester will be a Parade-less town after this year. I think Manchester needs to start a Homecoming parade trend for CHS on the Saturday before and perhaps make it to where Westwood Junior High's homecoming is that prior Thursday so both schools can take part in a Homecoming Day parade without the other feeling left out because two Homecoming parades would be too difficult to do for Manchester. The city needs to organize a town-wide celebration of some kind to substitute for Old Timer's Day. Otherwise the town becomes even more boring than it already is.
