  1. you can just stop with the angle that Science Hill fans were above the fray. I work with a DB fan that sat on the SH sidelines and heard more than one fan yelling to break Malik's M$%^&^& F@#*%^& ankles and yelling at the SH players not to help the M$%^&(^% FW#%$^#^# DB players up. So there are fanatics in every crowd. Not to mention what orangeandwahite spoke of. I guess 18 years will do that for a fanbase.
  2. Hmm...that's not what you were saying last week. How do you know how good Science Hill actually is? Oh yeah they played DB close so they must be good.
  3. What do you mean "what's he waiting on"? Well next year of course..... Oh I'm sorry I am supposed to say "This game will be over by halftime!" "DB will win easily...something like 492-2 (GC will use that famous have-the-QB-run-around-the-end-zone-to-kill-clock play that was used to perfection in the McMinn County game a few years back to allow Bearden to score a safety)" yeah that's my prediction
  4. I think more than a few from the DB side underestimated the Hill. I also believe more than a few that gave SH no shot are now allowing this close game to influence opinion that now SH is a dominate team and DB is on the way....this is just part of the whole picture and history has shown that average SH teams have played "good" DB teams close. They can't focus on this game to propel them into the playoffs because they will flop. DB basically allowed one player and 4 turnovers to almost beat them. I wouldn''t take anything away from this game as to where the season stands for either team (remember that TH scored 48 points and had 564 yds against the SH defense). And history has proven that SH playing DB close has not been a springboard to consistent greatness.
  5. over 400 yards rushing (that's pretty good) and almost 500 yards total offense....DB outgained Science Hill and won time of possession...overcame 4 turnovers that led to 27 points...overcame a 15 point 4th qtr deficit to win....Left 2 points on the field with the missed extra point and the decision to chase that point after the next score (way too early in my opinion)...Swafford not a great factor...I would say that's what good teams do. Held anyone on the Science Hill team not named Reed Hayes to about 50-60 yards. Time will tell how they go from here but this game has not necessarily been an indication of where the team stands overall as there have been many good DB teams that have played close games against average Science Hill teams. Even Gilligan was able to coach a .500 team to a 10-6 loss and in '06 it was 14-0 against a mediocre JC team. in '02 a terrible JC team only lost 7-3 to a great DB team that ended up giving away a semi final win to Riverdale on there home field. Where did Science Hill go from there to now? I'm waiting and seeing if Carter can get it done because I have heard from former South players that DB week he was already whipped. When they sell that new stadium out for some big games then I'll believe the community is ready to step up and get behind this team. Shoot there were more DB fans in JC last year than SH and they couldn't even fill the last game at old memorial against DB. And they are the 4th largest school in the state so they should be able to play with the big boys. We'll see. Maybe these "fans" were the same ones on here predicting DB would win by 10675 points and were disappointed with "only" a 3 point win but they won none the less. The same dillusional DB fans that predicted blowout and the game would be over by half time (Art, etc) are the same ones giving props to how SH is now ready to step up and play consistent big time football. And you'll be the same ones on here whining when the team bails out. As much as I see this game as 2 great teams playing big time ball I see enough to concern me that DB defensivly can't control any passing attack and they are prone to turnovers and suspect coaching decisions. I may be proven wrong. My concern was Clark chasing the missed extra point so early and had he kicked to go up 20-7, then DB probably is ahead late instead of tied.
  6. I watched this game on the internet feed (local8now). Stands did not look to be anywhere close to full (maybe half). Was it just the few shots I noticed or was the crowd that sparse?
  7. Straight fullback dive and Central had given up. The G man has never been the kind to run up the score and I don't imagine he changed that philosophy last night. Correct me if I'm wrong but you are a South fan and I remember when Carter was there he was mercilous about beating down the teams that he could and nobody seemed to have a problem with that. I remember that late in a Central game he had Curt Philips running back punts and padding his stats like crazy. Where was the outcry then? Just because your team stinks and is getting ready to drop into obscurity don't cry about what DB does. If South COULD score 75 points against someone they sure would do it. If Stacy Carter can run up 100 points on someone he will. I'm tired of the feel good cry babies whine about teams getting beat down. Either step up and stop them or drop football. If DB was to get pounded by 75 points against someone there would be a parade down Moreland Drive. This is why I hope the TSSAA gets their head out of the sand and corrects this fiasco. DB is in a lose-lose situation.
  8. Wow...that description sounds eerily like my memory of the '06 DB vs South game...a bunch of talk coming in and then they actually kicked off . Bloodbath. Oh yeah... DB won 44-0
  9. You mean reminding them that Chris Sensabaugh had a TD and another huge long run called back and the fact that DB recovered the late fumble that was not given to them after which Boone scored to go ahead? you mean the reminder of "Do not allow high school refs to decide this game!" Come on that was 3 years ago and the last 2 games have been total domination by DB. I believe order has been restored in the world.
  10. Great win last night. I've always poo-pooed the revenge factor as motivation but that may well have been the case. Wow...I hate to hear about Cook. Man he runs that option to perfection. I have to believe this totally changes the offensive scheme. There are alot of great athletes at that school and now is the time for someone to step up and lead this team on. We'll see how they handle adversity because Boone is not going to feel sorry and is capable of biting them. Wow
  11. Hmmm....you're a lot more optimistic about things down the road than I am. After last night I'm not sure those "ifs" can be done. They could not do it against a good (not great) team. And they can't continue to rely on ifs to get the job done. if they can't hit anything deep (which I have doubts) then they need to add something short to mid range to get the playmakers the ball. I did like the addition of #6 at QB with his skills...just not sure this coaching staff will use it for more than a decoy. I think it could be a great weapon. And I believe #8 needs more than 8 touches a game. I'm not a big fan of the socialist offense...everybody gets to share in the wealth. There are some special talents on this team...I just think there are some glaring deficiencies that they have the athletes to correct and an average South team exploited them last night for the rest of the teams on the schedule to see....and I think it will come to a head next week against the Smoky Bears. There is no excuse for South to go down the field on a 19 play drive. And there were south receivers running wide open all night. If they wouldn't have missed/dropped so many passes it would have been an even uglier stat to behold the yards they potentially could have piled up through the air. Even the south radio guys were befuddled how they could be so wide open. I agree with Waco, this South team is decent to good but there was nothing magical about what they were doing (but then again how many times have we experienced that...McMinn county anyone?). Let's be honest...this is a team that is on the edge of dropping down in classification. Everything is gumdrops and lolipops for some on here...I just believe there are way too many over inflated balloons that will be popped coming up. Maybe that is what the DB fans have accepted.
  12. The "deep passes" were nothing more than throwing the ball up and letting the receiver make a play. One "deep pass" was thrown right at the 2 south defenders playing deep...easy int. There was no Zip or accuracy to many balls all night that I saw...a decent defending team will tear DBs passing "attack" down and once again it will all be on the running game to make a play. I'm not sure which game you were at but that's what I saw and I stood beside 2 sevier county scouts and I guarantee that's what they saw. The passing game is woeful on both sides of the ball.
  13. That makes 2 games against south where a girl has played against them. The Brewster young lady played in the '06 game....you remember that was the game that ended up 44-0
  14. I'm tending to agree. Souths first TD with the tight end getting behind everybody was embarassing. All 11 defenders were crowding up to the line and all he had to do was clear the first line and it was over. Even worse was nobody could run him down. South had 2 or 3 sustained drives where the coaches seemed clueless to dial something up to get the defense off the field. Very frustrating. Next week will really tell the tale.
  15. Good: 1. Swafford is pretty special. The punt return for TD was all him. 2. Got the win. Bad: 1. Passing game...don't have a good one and cant defend an average one. Why can't they find a kid with a big arm? Let's be honest, the TD catch would have been knocked down/picked off most times. 2. Defense is not gonna get it done. Period. They were flat outmanned/coached on more than one south drive. A catfish defense it ain't. 3. Penalties....lack of discipline I am concerned about next Friday night. If the pass defense does not improve quick they will lose. If I had to make a prediction right now I would put my money on coming home from dolly town with a big L.
  16. There is something eerily quite from the south enders. I'm not sure if it is accpeting the inevitable or they have something "special" for tonight and the coach has mandated silence. Add to that south taking the bye during week #1 and puling the game back a day for "ecomomic" reasons and it has the makings of an ambush. The G man sounded a little...irritated about the change in sheduling and I'm hoping that feeds into the team and they come out with laser focus. In all honesty this game should be a walkover but stranger things have happened. Here is the way I'm seeing it could go: South will display a 3 ring circus full of gadgets in order to keep the Tribe off balance...DB weathers the storm lays the hammer effectivly making the 4th qtr a time for the yung uns...half time will be extended to 1 hour for a pickup truck parade...at leat one pair of daisy dukes and 1 halter top made of stars and bars wil be worn....South wins at the gate and concessions and the AD petitions the TSSAA to have DB on the schedule each week as part of the counties plan to use the money to pay the legal costs for the cat fight between Sheriff Anderson and Mayor Godsey.
  17. So did it stop raining when DB was on offense or something? Wow that is an interesting weather phenomenon..I think Mark Reynolds and storm team 11 need to check into this. Come on...both teams played in the same weather. Besides, what does the fact SH couldn't run their offense because of rain have to do with the defense giving up 47 points? Give the DB defense some credit. Please if SH would have won this thread would have blown up with rubbing it in our faces junk. There would be 10,000 new coacht members from the JC area joining just to take a shot.
  18. HA HA HA HA!...shew that's funny. Seriously, I work with someone that played for Carter at South and he basically said Carter could not handle DB week and was virtually beat before the game started. ?That's not me saying it that's someone that actually played under him. Go back to '09 when DB was struggling and South was pretty good and DB went to Pactolus and laid the wood to Carter's Rebels. Chris Sensabaugh had 200+ yards rushing. You are crazy if you think he is the better COACH. He went out and blew a wad on an all-star coaching staff. He will never be a better coach than the G man. NEVER
  19. How about Coty...but Swafford is great though
  20. So the problem was DBs stadium setup...that is what caused the fans to show there true colors. Interesting. That fits right in with our society where it is always somebody else responsible for our actions/problems. The reason DB warms up on that end is because the team enters on that end from the field house. That is called home field. And the fact that the field is so close to the stands is what makes JFred the great Friday night atmosphere. Question: if DB plays at Death Valley would South change there warm up procedure? Yeah, right. And would that justify the actions of the opposing fans?
  21. That's only because Gate City was playing in Kentucky and the SW Va Times News doesn't send anybody to cover games out of town (town being gate city)
  22. Man...Tom Taylor and Rick Spivey. It didn't get any better than that.
  23. I agree. The 80 yard drive was just ramming it down the Tribe's throat. Not sure why they didn't keep on that until DB showed they could stop it. I have to admit after that drive I was more than a little concerned this was going to turn into a slugfest and I feared DB would get tight and make some mistakes and then anything could have happened. I think it backfired because when things started to unravel for South it snowballed.
  24. is he the missing brother from the Jackson 5? I wanted to reach thru the radio
