  1. I don't know if anyone will jump Motown this season till the playoffs and if another Maryville game is looming my fat butt may have to make a trip across the hill to watch. Motown by 21
  2. Swain was just too young to hang with ya'll this season, but with that said ya'll looked like you are ready to make some big noise in East Tennessee this season. Numbers 44, 90, 40, 5, 6 all seemed to control their game and ours. And then their is that LINE!!!! Man oh man yeah I see this bunch going far. Great defense and way too much speed for our Devils this year. Best of luck and kick some arse for those of us in WNC.
  3. Just checking in to see who is coming over this year. And can ya'll tell me what type of team ya'll have this season. Many D1 prospects this year, are ya'll going to take a deep run in the playoffs again..... you know that kinda stuff. Swain is young but we'll play anyone put in front of us. Well for those coming over drive safe and have fun.
  4. BTT I'd like to see Swain play another game this year so if any 1A/2A or 3A East Tennessee teams that need to pick up a game this year on the 9th or 30th call Swain County High School. Swain is a 1A Western North Carolina team on the other side of the Great Smoky Mountains. Come on folks does anyone need a game????
  5. Guys..... How did the scoring go last night? You know 7-0 first quarter 21-7 at the half.... that kinda thing.
  6. Could someone give a scoring recap of the game? Yes, I really do care too.
  7. Hmmmm Like I kinda state with the topic, and 1A or 2A schools in East Tennessee that may have an open date on the 9th or 30th contact Swain County High School.
  8. If anyone needs a game Swain County is stuck with two open dates, one on Sept. 9th and the other on Sept. 30th! Swain really needs another football game and if someone could contact Swain County High I'm sure a game could be held.
  9. The Smokey Mountain Conference, SMC, is in the southwestern Mountains of North Carolina and I know a few of the schools would love to schedule up some games with teams from East Tennessee. No this isn't a topic of who is the best but one of one fan wanting to see some good small school football! The SMC has seven members, Robbinsville 12 NCHSAA 1A State titles, Swain County 6 1A and 1 2a state titles, Murphy 5 1A state titles and one 2A title and four other schools that can knock the fool out of ya some times, Cherokee, Hayesville, Rosman and Andrews. Swain has for three games play against 4A Morristown West with one big upset last season, seems Swain can keep it close till half time then the depth and size of Motown wears Swain down. I’d like to see how the Devils, (Swain) would do with teams more there own size in Tennessee. Plus it’s only a couple of hours of travel time and not many football teams over here want to line up with the Devils year in and year out. ; ) Murphy just played 2A Marion; check the spelling on that one for me, and won last night which isn’t a bad thing for the Dawgs of Murphy are loaded this season just as Swain was last year! I’m just wanting to see some good ole hard nosed football with schools about the same size. Any positive input would be great, trash talk…. Not needed. What say yea?
  10. Motown used it's depth and speed to finish off a scrappy 1A Swain County Maroon Devil football team Friday night 38 to 14. Nothing but class from the Morristown Coaching staff for once everyone saw the game becoming out of control the coaches agreed to only have a 6 minute fourth quarter and rather than punching an unneeded score at the end Motown sat on the ball and let the time expire. For that I wish to give my utmost thanks. Now from the beginning of this game nobody from Swain knew what to expect from the Devils this season. Our scrimmage game last week started off great only to see Swain make several “Young” miscues to a solid 3A program over here in North Carolina. Motown used it’s power game and some timely passes to move the ball 80 yards to score and eat up over 7 minutes on the clock. Swain’s first drive ended with a couple of first downs and another punt, however with the Devils picking up a couple of first downs started giving the Devils more promise that better things where around the corner. Well Motown moved the ball on their first and second downs but then a good play by a Swain defender stole a short pass and Swain was in business inside the Motown forty. Swain took full advantage of this and finally put 7 on the board! Motown not to be out done early in the second quarter hit a fairly long pass and that play with the help a some great offensive linemen blocking opened up the way for the Trojans to take a 14-7 lead. Swain wasn’t yet done and actually moved the ball with some great play calling, which ended up with a TD on a power sweep tying the game at 14. As luck would have if Motown could have put 7 more on the boards right before the half but a dropped pass in the End zone lead to a three point lead as Motown kicked the go ahead field goal to end the half with the score at Motown 17 Swain 14. After the half Motown just wore down Swain’s depth by putting 14 quick points on the board making the score 31 to 14, the last Motown score came on a forty yard fumble recovery and run. Ouch! Swain isn’t as bad the score showed but aren’t quite ready for the depth of talent the Trojans have. My what a difference a season can make for Swain lost 19 seniors off last seasons State Championship team and that depth was missed tonight. Again good game and the best of luck to the Trojans for the rest of the Season.
  11. Thanks folks and I wish ya'll the very best this season. Just not in this opener...LOL
  12. Could someone post how to make it to Motown coming off of I40 West? Feel free to tell us where a good place to eat is at and how to make it to the football field. Swain should bring several hundred to a thousand fans, we love our football over here too.
  13. Swain pull out a huge win last season over Motown can the Devils do it again??? Don't know for sure but I know I'm making another road trip on the 19th to watch the game. Any info on Motown this season? I know Swain will line up and give their all again but the Devils lost 19 players from last seasons squad. Help out Motown fans, I gotts to have some info on the game. It's been another year and it's FOOTBALL TIME AGAIN.
  14. Swain County won the 1A state title Saturday by a 16-14 score! Just thought I'd drop this by ya'll.
  15. Swain County is now in the Western Regional Final against the two time defending State Champion Elkin. In round one Swain won by 49 points over a North Stokes team, round two a 62 point win over Chatham Central and last night a 31-7 win over Hobbton. Swain hasn’t been challenged since ya’ll came to town back at the beginning of the season. Not rubbing it in just updating for those that might want to know.
  16. JC4life, I’ll tell you what this 1A bunch from Swain isn’t your typical 1A football team. Swain is loaded this season and since the Morristown game Swain has put up 77 points to 7 on two 3A schools here in North Carolina with one more 4A school on the schedule in two weeks. By the way the 7 points giving up were on the scrubs too. So please don’t make it sound as if losing to Swain was an embarrassment for it wasn’t. Matter of fact that game could have easily went the other way in the second half but the ball bounced in Swain’s favor. A Swain fumble recovered by Swain on the one-foot line was probably the biggest play in the second half. Motown recovers they score the tying points and I don’t think Swain had the juice to hang with Motown for an overtime game. I’m dang proud of what Swain accomplished and I feel it’s wrong of some to use that game to rub it in towards Motown. Matter of fact this bunch from Swain this year could hang and defeat many a solid football team no matter what classification they are. Yes, you could say I’m also a Motown fan for the Swain fans were well treated at Motown last year. And I’m sure many of the fans of Motown were also impressed with Swain County this year too.
  17. Guys and gals, the folks from Murphy are down a bit this season but don’t over look’em they have been known to play well in big games. As for the people making claims of a 50-7 win for the Dogs of Murphy, well it’s not the Murphy fans but others from WNC so don’t take it out on them too much. I’m pickin’ the dogs in an upset by one point. That’s not what I’d call an overwhelming vote of confidence but you know how it goes, stick with your own and hope for the best! ; ) Now for Swain, this team is loaded and is getting’ ready to play the second 3A school in a row this week. Last week Swain rolled up a 35-0 win over 3A rivals Smoky Mountain at their house. Next week Swain had 4A power Reynolds of Asheville schedule up but a conflict in their BS schedule allowed some questionable dealings and they bought out the contract. GRRRRR… The following week Swain will travel 4 hours down the road to play Watauga another 4A school. And out of all of these games NONE were as big as defeating Morristown West in Bryson City. And the Maroon Devils are favored in every game left for the 1A SMC conference games of which Murphy is the biggest rival. I’m not getting into a pissin’ contest on who would beat who for it doesn’t’ matter since neither CPA or Swain has a chance of meeting this year. But I’m not saying I’d bet against my beloved Devils either. Best of luck and if you thought Murphy has a nice facility then you would be shocked at what we have here in Swain! Top of the line that puts Murphy to shame and I’m not joking just ask any of the Motown fans that made the trip to Bryson City.
  18. LongSack, Yes Swain County is a 1A school and it’s only a couple of hours away from Motown. But this 1A team for Swain is loaded and has a very good shot and winning another State Title to go in the trophy case, if it does happen it will be number 7 since 79!
  19. Swain County is a 1A school with a rich football history, way back in the day Swain played up at the 2A level and won one 2A State title back in 79 with less than 500 kids in school. Back in 85 Swain dropped to the 1A level and won State titles in ’85, 88,89,90 and 01 with runner up status in 93 and 95 this season Swain has the team that could put title number 7 on the board. Swain has a winning percentage of over .700 in the playoffs in NC since 72. Swain plays in the Smoky Mountain Conference and let’s just say there may not be a conference with more history in the nation than right here in the mountains of NC. At the 1A level Robbinsville has 12 State titles, Swain 5, Murphy 4 (Home of Carl Pickens) with Rosman Swain Murphy and Robbinsville losing a total of 7 or 8 other shots at championship rings. That’s not bad at any level. Then if we go back even to the 50’s and 60’s the SMC has state titles with Andrews too. Now back in the late 60’s and 70’s and up to 84 Swain, Murphy, Franklin(Shawn Bryson ring a bell?) and Sylva Webster (Remember some Streater kid leading the vols back in the 70’s? He was from Sylva) all played 2A ball. In this time period the 2A conference won 8 state titles with Robbinsville chalking up State titles in the 1A ranks. We love our football over here too. Back to Swain, the Maroon Devils have always scheduled up larger teams, it’s a have to case and we win our share of them too. This year Swain still have left two 3A schools and one more 4A school to play before conference time begins. Not many 1A schools can say the same. RBS, you were right this was a good time to catch Motown.
  20. Heath Shuler is a Maroon Devil at heart! He lead Swain to 3 staight 1A titles back in the late 80's and 1990! One of the running backs tonight, #44 is his kin too. Casey Shuler, a 225LB brute!
  21. 1A Swain County defended their home field here in Bryson City North Carolina with a hard fought win over Motown West. This game was a huge win for Swain has Morristown has the size and speed to win alot of games this season. Keys of the Game, Swain had three great Scoring drives and one major fumble return for a TD to win this game. Motown used it's Speed to burn up the field on a 90+ yard Kickoff return and two scoring drives of it's own. Motown did have some good shots of tying this game up late a dropped pass that would have scored late in the 4th had to hurt. And Motown moved the ball down inside Swain's 15 when they lost control of the ball on downs with a minute left in the game. Morristown Fans, those of ya'll that made the trip, what do you think of Swain's Stadium and field? Lord knows we love our Football over here too. Good luck on the rest of the season!
  22. That’s cool by me KevB, Swain is hosting 4A Morristown West though this Friday night! I’m more than a bit worried after last seasons outing for my 1A Devils. MoTown has some good size and speed that’s hard for Swain to match up with. Swain County is located in the Far Western mountains, for a matter of fact Swain has 52% of the Great Smokey Mountains National Park in it’s boundaries. So it’s just as easy to play teams from East Tennessee for Swain as it is to travel four hours down I 40 to pick up a game. The deal with AC Reynolds is basically just a fact finding hunt by a ticked off fan. I doubt the NCHSAA would do anything to one of their top 4A programs in the last couple of years anyhow. I still find it fishy that due to the travel time and layover with Ridgeway that something is rotten in AC Reynolds for not wanting to play the game with Swain. But like I said, I’m a ticked off fan over this matter.
  23. Ok Swain was to play Reynolds on the 10th, however Reynolds folks screwed up and already had another game scheduled. Their line was it was just a simple miscue and they would do everything in their power to play the game with Swain. Swain, having read the contract that was written by AC Reynolds moved accordingly and lined up Morristown West to the first game of the season and added Watauga for the fifth game which was when Reynolds thought they were to play Swain. Now that’s just a bad screw up on their part. So here is where it get interesting, Reynolds contacts Ridgeway to fill the void in their season, however they forgot to mention that to Swain or the NCHSAA both of whom wanted to see this game played. Now due to the fact the contract stated, 1. The school that breaks the contract would be handed a forfeit loss, 2. Would pay a 2,500 fine, 3. Would be disqualified for the NCHSAA playoffs. Now when face with holding AC Reynolds to the fire and having to punish their student athletes Swain agreed to allow Reynolds to buy out the contract. However at no point in time was the fact of Reynolds never intended to play this game mention. And that is where the Stuff hits the fan with many of us fans in Swain County. Due to one school administration dealing behind the backs of Swain and the NCHSAA is unethical and it just might jump up and bite Reynolds on their self-righteous butts. Many of us in Swain County have seen where Ridgeway has had Reynolds scheduled up since July 7th, and that is before Reynolds even went to the table with Swain County. Tough luck, to bad so sad until the facts come out. I’m just wanting someone from Ridgeway to corroborate this, they at Ridgeway haven’t did anything wrong but someone else has.
  24. Well AC Reynolds screwed up their schedule and couldn’t work their way to keeping the game with Swain. So with the NCHSAA over looking this mess Reynolds was told to make the game happen or resolve the issue or Reynolds would have to 1. Forfeit the game, 2. Pay a 2,500-dollar fine, 3. Reynolds would be disqualified for the playoffs. So Reynolds used Swain as the bad guys and pushed for a buy out of the contract. Swain’s AD didn’t wish to see the kids at Reynolds miss the playoffs and the deal was done. Now here’s where the story hits a bump in the road! Reynolds had already contacted Ridgeway to replace Swain! So what a lot of people over here want to know is just when did all this take place? According to a Ridgeway football site, their schedule was last updated on the 7th of July a full three WEEKS BEFORE REYNOLDS SAT DOWN TO TALK TO SWAIN. Yeah, this is going to stink to high Heaven before it’s over. I’ve lost all respect for that program.
