  1. Patrick Pitts & Rodney Cummings were good backs as well.
  2. Umpire...is your first name David?? You seem to know a lot about Coach Mullinax!
  3. Ted Lockerby from Tennessee Tech would be a great candidate. He is from Cleveland and has been in the college ranks for 12-13 years. He would really relate to the players well. I would hope that by now he has been contacted.
  4. Where did the current thread on South Pittsburg go?
  5. You have to hand it to the young staff at Lake County. Coach Barger has done an outstanding job of keeping them together through some rocky times. You are in a great position. You all have the athletic ability to go even farther. Focus and belief are 2 key ingredients. Enjoy the moment and take it all in. You never know when youll be back!
  6. Is what you say is true then the cart is leading the horse in Marshall County. The kids are important, but at the same time if some high school kids can be the ones to start a petition to get rid a a coach then as mentioned earlier...the cart leading the horse. The parents and the players need to quit blaming the coaches for their shortcomings. Work harder and realize that it is a team game.
  7. How many kids are in school at Moore County? How many are out for football? I think that it has been important in the past, but may have let it slip for one reason or another. They can be good, but never great unless they let kids in from Lincoln Co, Franklin Co, or Tullahoma. Can they ever win the state?
  8. There has never been a 4.3 guy in the history of South Pittsburg Football. I promise you. A few 4.4s, some 4.5s and some 4.6s. South Pittsburg has good genetics, but not great. A place like Hazelwood Alabama has great genetics. Brownsville Tennessee has great genetics. South Pittsburg has very good genetics. Lake County has very good speed as well as Union City and Trousdale. Work ethic is the largest question mark facing the team in South Pittsburg along with the ability to put the team before yourself. Until that is the case Championships will be few and far between like they have been in the past. Perry Hutchins is the most underated player in the history of the school. Another thing that the fans at South Pittsburg need to remind those kids of is that there is life after South Pittsburg football. Do the things necessary to get out, at least for a while, get a degree and then maybe come back to South Pittburg and make it an even better place to be. What a great history! Can be an even greater future!
  9. I know that the team works pretty hard in the offseason and the summer, but I think that with some individual leadership from the older players, or from any of the younger players for that matter that the group can work even harder than they have. I think that more can be demanded from the majortiy of the players from the coaches and from themselves. I think that they take for granted the opportunity that they have. The entire town of So. Pitt is guilty of telling a kid how good he is from the time he able to hold a football in his arms. What they need to be telling them is that you are a big fish in a small pond and the world is out there for you. Take advantage of these opportunities. You have a good talent base in So. Pitt and have the chance every year to compete for a championship. So many kids dont have that same opportunity. It take more than speed and athletic skill to win it all. Winning 9-10 games a year is good, but winning championhips is what its all about. Listen to your coaches, work harder, do your schoolwork so that maybe youll have the chance to play beyond high school, and steer clear of all the distrations that are in the streets. Your time in high school is short. Enjoy the moment and take advantage of every minute!
  10. Unbelievably forgot about Eddie. He was a 4.4 something for sure. Bo, Lehr, and Sisco were 4.6 something. I hope that the football braintrust in Seq. Co. doesnt run the new coach off either. They have always been respectable and will return to that point I am sure. I agree with you Indian that there is much more to winning a football game than just team speed. The one thing about it though is that you can certainly win more with it. By the way the new stadium and facilities in Dunlap look really nice. Probably the best in the Valley with the exception to N. Jackson.
  11. Yeah, we all know...stellar track program at Sequatchie County. Tons of speed. You brought that on yourself by questioning the speed of the players at So. Pitt. To be honest no real speed in the Valley to speak of. A lot of supposed 4.4-4.5 that end up being 4.8-4.9. I have heard it all my life. 3 players have been 4.5 that I can remember in the last 25 years. Chubb, P.Hutchins, and Pickett. Any others are 4.6 or better. Still a ton of talent though. More than in Dunlap, even though Dunlap has always had a lot of good players.
  12. I hope that you are from Lewisburg or you will be scolded. I assume that Marshall County does want a winning football program...is that right? As I mentioned earlier and got the feathers all ruffled up over there. Get the egos and the parents out of the decision making and get a staff in there and let them go to work. Parents dont over rate the ability of your team. There are plenty of more talented teams in the West Tennessee area and in Jackson. The potential is certainly there though! Good Luck!
  13. I hope that the parents and community in South Pittsburg realize that there is more to winning a championship than speed. Howard High School has speed every year and it took a commitment from the players at Howard to make the strides that they have made. Yes they have benefited from the addition of a stong coach who cares a lot for the kids etc. The easy solution is to blame it all on the coaches. Thats easy. The entire program should shoulder some of the blame for a first round exit from the playoffs. Although Gordonsville is a very good team. They play an extremely tough brand of football that South Pittsburg does not see on a weekly basis. There have been years that South Pittsburg has been so talented that it didnt matter what offense or defense they ran they would win. IE 1994 & 1999. Thats not to say that they werent well coached, but they were extremly talented. Yes the talent base is there, but it takes more than that. It takes parent that dont ridicule or second guess the coaches on every decision that is made reguarding the program. When you do this you are destroying the very foundation that the program is built on. I know that sometimes the coaches may make calls that dont work or make some decisions reguarding field position, or going for 2 that backfire. What you have to realize is the fact that the coaches are making those decisions that they feel like give them the best chance to win. In todays day and age the coaches must realize that they are under a microscope more than ever and when they fail to meet the expectations of the masses they will hear it. It is part of the job. You know that going in. You must stay up with the most current schemes and continue to recruit the hallways for the best talent available and teach them to work as well as dicipline. A lot of the kids today dont have the dicipline that people once had. Thats just a sign of the times. It sounds cliche' but that is the truth. Coaches have to be replacement parents for a lot of these kids. They have to tell them when they are wrong and stand by all tough decisions. The parents that are there with their kids need to stand firm behind decisions based on their child as tough as that might be. It only teaches them that sometimes decisions will be made during your lifetime that you have little or no control over. You must persevere. Keep going. Dont quit. Finally the players must understand that within you lies a leader. Someone who will lead others to great heights. Your legacy will last forever. Either positive or negative. You only have one chance to play high school football and you can ask the majority of former players if they would like another chance and the overwhelming majority would say yes. Nothing worth having comes easy. You have to work. There is no substitute. You can always do more than you think you can. Work in the weight room. running routes, catching balls, plyos. There are a million things that you can do so that you as a individual are improving. Imagine if every player involved with the program were completely dedicated to the cause for 365 days. I dont mean talking people to death, but absolute work and dedication. I look forward to seeing the progress over the winter and into the spring. Good luck! You have a lot of Potential!
  14. Great post! Very informative! I guess things are great in Marshall County...Just the way you want them. There are a lot of quality coaches across the state of Tennessee that are scared of the Marshall job simply because of the politics. Too many parents, administrators, former coaches, etc... that have all of the answers. The answer is to get a good young, quality staff that can coach, make adjustments, discipline, and recruit the hallways of Marshall County. You have a lot of History with your program, both positive and negative. Its time to get back to the positive. I would love to hear your dialouge disputing what I have recently said. The facts are there. The results on the field are proof. The changing of the coaching staffs is proof. The entire county looks bad. There is a tremendous amount of potential in Marshall County waiting to be tapped into. The egos must be put aside and the program, school, and players must take the lead. I love the game of football, especially high school football. I hope that things get straightened out there. Thanks again for the informative reply!
  15. Need to get the egos out of Marshall County and let a staff come in to take advantage of the skill that you all have there. Get some true support from the administration and quit worrying about who gets the credit. Do you people of "power" in Marshall County realize that you are viewed as a joke by the majority of Tennessee now? That was not the case a few years back. You have the talent level to compete every year. Quit cheating the kids and leave a staff in place long enough to get something done. You had a great staff a couple of years back and you blew it. Do some research this time and bring a quality staff back in to get a tough, but certainly attainable, job done.
  16. Congrats to the Lake County football team and I would like to personally say congrats to Coach Barger. You have worked hard and now that hard work is finally paying off. I know that this is the team that has been the achilles heel for a while and you finally got it done. Now take it a step farther, get the team back to earth and realize that the chance to go farther is there. From one coach to another, I respect the job that you have done.
  17. I agree with you former Coach. It really amazes me when these places with little or no athleticism in town start complaining when a coach doesnt win it all. Lynchburg has no true athletes. They have hard working boys that are good football players and they need a coach with a plan to make them successful. Marshall County made a really good decision to run Mac out of town a few years ago. You can tell that by their record over the last 2 years. Ha! I think Mac is an extremely intelligent coach, but furthermore he lives for the program that he is coaching in. He lives it! You cant get most people to give what he will give to a football program. His record speaks for itself. Marion County is another town with unrealistic expectations. They can have a really good coaching staff in place and then blow it by letting them leave town. Are you kidding me? If either one of these towns has success on a continual basis you can rest assured that it is the coaching staff. They do not have the athletes year in and year out to be great, but with a staff in place they can compete on a continual basis. In order to get a coach of this calibre to stay you must have all of your ducks in a row and the school and school system must make it appealing to stay. If you guys are lucky enough to get Mac back from Ripley you should consider yourself lucky and make it impossible for him to leave.
  18. Cookeville is a real power....???
  19. Ronnie Tate- very tough LB in the 80's
  20. Anyone with word on Coach Pruitts situation at Plainview?
  21. Why dont you get off of Barger? You must have a short memory. Yes, LC has tradition, but they were in the basement when he got there and his winning % since and his constant building of the program cant be questioned. UC has more numbers and is certainly a larger town. It will always be tough to beat them although not impossible. Maybe I am by myself, but in my opinion you need another fish to fry.
