  1. Midway has a better team than people realize. They are the defending region 2a champs. Yes, they did get beat by Cloudland in the 3rd round last year, but they hung in there for a while which is more than any other team could do, except Ezell. Greenback has a good team. The reason they didn't score their usual 50 is because Midway does a good job with clock control. They had the ball a long time.Just like the previous post says. When you are playing a rival game as big as Midway -Greenback is, you can throw the record, stats, etc. out the door. I don't think Greenback is trying to say they are as good as Cloudland, Ezell, etc, but give them credit they are a good team.
  2. How do you figure that? Midway won the previous two years. Your Cherokees don't sound that impressive. 14-6. James threw 2 int. Not quitethe dominating team you all have been bragging about.
  3. Thats a whole different story then. That is the one situation where the best players should not be the ones playing if these girls are in fact good. Players who have this type of attitude should be on the bench regardless of their ability. I would rather lose with respectful kids, than win with a bunch of thugs. Have you considered changing schools?

    Officials?

Quit whining! Thats all you O.S. people do. Remember Sweetwater last year. You lost, deal with it.
  5. I understand what you are saying, there are exceptions to every situation and occasionally the best kids aren't played for whatever reason, but for the most part coaches play the best athletes unless there are discipline problems. My advice is for your child to ask the coach what she can do to make herself better so that she can contribute to the team. Tell your child to give 100% on the practice floor and challenge those other players. Every time there is a loose ball, she needs to be on it. When your child is on the bench she should support the other players and not sit and pout. Your child may already be doing these things, i don't know, but in most cases every player can give more effort and in most cases the coach will notice and reward her for her hard work. Hopes this helps. Tell her to keep her head , not give up , and keep trying.
  6. I think Greenback will win because of their ability to throw the ball and Midways young DB's, but I believe it will be closer than people think. I have been very surprised at how Midway comes out every game ready to play. They have played well despite losing around 20 seniors. But I'm sure Greenback will be fired up too since they have lost the past two years.
  7. Well if thats what they mean by getting respect then greenback can forget because if they get to the third round they will not get past Cloudland.
  8. Does anybody know any results of todays state tourn?
  9. I don't know where everyone is getting that Greenback gets no respect. They have been ranked in the top ten every week, around 7 or 8. They should not be up there with the likes of Cloudland and Ezell. A few people on this board saying they play a weak schedule is not enough to say they get no respect.
  10. Does anyone think Coalfield or Midway has a shot at beating Greenback? Coalfield returns most of their starters and I believe they are 5-0. Midway is 4-1 only losing to Rockwood. They knocked off a good Davidson Academy team Fri. Thoughts on this?
  11. Good list ELA. Success breeds success, talent is a necessity, and discipline is a must. Without discipline, you can have all the talent in the world and still lose. I'm glad you mentioned assistants. A head coach is only as good as his staff.
  12. Mchs, if all players had your attitude sports would not be in the shape they are in today.I'm giving you a good mark. Gotta, you stated why have subs? Well I'm not sure about your situation, but most high school teams play more than five players. They usually don't play the entire team on regular basis, but about 8-10 will play. It is impossible in high school basketball to play the entire team every game and win consistently. Yes, the game is for the kids, but a coach is paid and expected to win, and today that coach will be replaced if he/she does not win. Having the happiest team in the district doesn't count for much. As for your comments about kids that would rather be cut than sit there, there is a solution to that. It's called QUITTING. I agree that parents should be able to talk to coaches, but not about playing time which is what parents always want to talk about. When a coach keeps a kid on the team it does not necessarily mean they are able to play. In many cases it means they have the potential to play and contribute with alot of hard work. Thats why coaches keep freshman, mostly not to play, but to get better for the future.
  13. I am referring to a coaching change. I can't believe the people of Harriman suffered through 1 no win season, much less a probable 2 no win or 1 win season without doing something. I do not think they work as hard as other teams, and I have heard the comment about the parents in the locker room from several people involved in HHS football. Onedia is pretty bad, but I still will take them over the Devils.
  14. Greenback will beat Coalfield by at least 2 touchdowns. I wouldn't be bragging too much about beating St. Andrews and Taft. Don't forget about the defending 2A champs Midway. I don't think they'll beat Greenback, but they'll give Coalfield a run for second place.
  15. BBALLTN, the point of the thread is to who you think will win, not who you support. Also it does not look like the Harriman team is putting out all of this effort you are talking about. I've seen them, they fight amongst each other, and give up very easy, which is easy to do when you are having a long losing streak. Its just hard to forget all the trask talking the did back in the late 90's when they were very good. Those Harriman kids we are supposed to support at the beginning of the year were talking about Rockwood being all talk and Midway not being able to get a county win this year and they really beat them last year, etc. No one is on here beating them down, but face it they are bad. There are options to take that can change that, i just can't believe the steps weren't taken last year. :

    Alcoa 0-4

Alcoa will get their first win tonight against the Blue Devils of Harriman. I predict Alcoa by at least three touchdowns.

  18. I have yet to see a baseball game with cheerleaders and I also can't think of a game that has been won or lost because of the cheerleaders. Yes, they are important, but not important enough to win or lose games, sorry.

    Harriman

Harriman is definitly down, but Midway has had a good team both years they beat Harriman. I have only seen Harriman play once against Kingston, and I listened to them against Midway, but it sems they have some good athletes, but NO discipline. They players fight with each other, commit way too many personal fouls, and take themselves out the game.
  20. I agree Swamp, Linville is definetly the best assistant there, and one of the best in Tenn. They would be better if he had more responsibility. From what i've heard, the others, minus Collier, don't have much, if any, input into game plans etc.. The complaint about politics and the booster club goes on at most every school.
  21. What changes have been made in the coaching staff. I know Plemons and Johnson are fairly new, and Linville is now doing freshman, but who was there before that contributed significantly? Kingston has been down recently, but they should be better with the group of freshman they have this year. I was shocked at the Harriman game when Kingston dressed out freshman. I can only remember two or three freshman dressing out and playing during King's time. Is there a decline in interest, what is going on? In the past they have had 80-100 players.
  22. I predict O.S. over Harriman by at least 3 touchdowns. Rockwood over Wartburg, but it will be extremely close. Midway 7-0 over Lookout Valley-not a very good team, but the Waves can't score. Kingston over Gibbs by a touchdown, this one may be surprisingly close.
  23. That's a really stupid question. All teams do that. At Rockwood Thursday there were all kinds of teams that play Rockwood there and their coaches.O.S., Wartburg, Kingston, etc. That happens everytime a team has an off night. You're the one that sounds worried. [Edited by tigersfan on 9-1-02 3:50P]
  24. I agree. Midway can do good in their region, but they need to find another ball carrier to help Harmon out. They were too predictable. i'm afraid they will be in trouble when they run into a passing team because they left Critter open all night.
