  1. All orange got to correct you on a few things. First let me say warren is improved and will be better but the talk of starters playing hole game is not accurate. Giles played starters for a half. Qb to no snaps after halftime. Back up qb Harrison and jv qb Burns took all the snaps. 2 defensive starters didn't play at all as well as the starting center. With that said the bobcats got to improve up front defensively and do a better job tackling next week as they open the season at home against Lincoln co.
  2. Prayers from the Giles County Bobcats and this young man's former coach. He is a great young man from a very good family. DGIII stay strong and fight. May God touch you with his healing hands.
  3. dixieboy, The Franklin Co. score over Giles is a little misleading. The teams played 4 12min quarters running clock. With 10 min left in the 4th Giles was up 21-7 and should have been up 28-7 but fumbled on the 6-inch line going in on their opening drive. The Bobcats then pulled all their 1s and 2s at the 10 min mark of the 4th to allow their young ones to get some reps while the Rebels left their 1s and 2s in. The rebels got 2 TDs off bad snaps as the So. jv center for the Bobcats struggled snapping 4 of the first 6 snaps over the QBs head. so the Rebels got the points and ended up winning 27-21. scoring 3 TDs in the final 10 mins. Franklin CO. is improved for sure and will make some noise in their district for sure. I know the both Coaches were probably pleased overall with the first scrimmage of the year.
  4. I say your top ten 4A programs in 2014 are the following, listed in Alphabeical not Ranked order Elizabethton Fulton Giles Co. Greeneville Knox Catholic Lexington Memphis Trezevant Pearl-Cohn Signal Mountain Sullivan South My teams that could break into the top 10: Knoc Carter, Liberty, Livingston Academy, Crockett Co. Just my 2 cents.
  5. Good scrimmage for both teams. Giles Co. owned the varsity (1s and 2s) session of the scrimmage 4 TDs to 1. While Lewis County got the better of Giles in the young player portion of the scrimmage 3 tds to 0. So if you add them up a 4 to 4 tie is how it played out. Lewis Co. has some big kids and will be fine once season starts. Giles look pretty good but still has alot to work on as well.

  8. copenoc I was not necessarily referring to Zay winning Mr. Basketball just feel his body of work during his HS career deserved consideration. Mainly responded to dispute your comment of him getting there and losing. He has a 6-2 record in the glass house with a couple of trophies in the trophy case in LC for the career. Many times this award is a career award and players get nominated based on their careers and name recognition. Again I stand by my comment that Bradford should win Mr. Basketball.
  9. copenoc, As Chipper said Zay has been to the big dance 3 years, he won it as a freshman, final four as a Sophomore, and State runner-up as a Jr. He NEVER went and lost a first round game in those years. He helped put the first Gold and Silver Ball in the trophy case for LC Basketball. As for Stockdale he has yet to get his team out of the Region so as far as getting there and losing, he might want to get there first. Zay also set the state record for steals in the state tournament last year as well. He endured a coaching change and has been more of a distributer I hear this year for his team. I only got to see him play once this year but he had a great game at Halls in a big LC win. Bradford in my opinion should win Mr. Basketball but Coleman deserves a nomination in my opinion.
  10. Coach Barger has not left Giles Co., doesn't have plans to, and did not apply at Chatt Central. Good luck to the Poundes in their search for a new coach they have a great school and a good administration to work for.
  11. Chipper don't forget Lake Co. was a 7 seed in the district last year and ended up beating #2 Seed Greenfield and the rest is history. The Falcons will be ok they got back to back district wins over Halls at Halls and Trenton Friday and Saturday. The Bradford loss hurt but think they will be ok in the second half as Zay look good Friday vs. Halls and the players mentioned get back. With that said still believe the District, Region and Sub-State births come down between Humboldt, South Fulton and Union City. I got UC on the outside looking in b/c they got to prove they can win a big game when it counts. The group they have had been hyped since middle school but as of yet have not got out of the region. I felt last year that Lake Co. got the better deal with South Fulton beating LC in the district consolation and getting to play UC in the Region semis than being a 3 seed and playing Humboldt in region semis. Just my opinion, feel free to rebute.
  12. Gerry Bertier, You do a great job and is fun looking at your picks. My question is do you think all three Unicoi Co., Grainger and Claiborne Co. are all getting in? Looking at their schedules and scores I don't think they will. I Think the winner of Claiborne and Grainger gets in as the District runner-up but the other doesn't and not sure with the loss Friday Unicoi gets enough wins to get in. I see Fulton staying in Quad 1 as they are now.
  13. Again I expect Quad 1 to be stacked with Greeneville, Fulton, Sullivan South and Elizabethton all in it. TSSAA has shown in the past they care not about records or district champs but will go straight off Geography and if it plays out with Chatt. Central getting in and a couple others in Southern and Middle TN as I think they will, there will be no way they go Quad 2. Knox Catholic being the furtherest west will be in Quad 2.
  14. Only thing I may argue with is I don't see Fulton moving to Quad 2. After looking at it I don't think Grainger, Unicoi and Claiborne all get in Also because I think Chattanooga Central gets in now with them picking up a forfiet win over Tyner to move to 3 wins and they have winnable games left with Brainerd and Howard which would get them to 5 wins.
  15. Good luck to the green and gold this week against those hated tornadoes!! Im sure my ole friend Bid Swo and others will keep you and Bigster busy!! lol Should be a battle all game long. Yes I am very proud of Devon Jones as well. Will be wearing #33 for the Governors as they take the field against the big Orange. A pretty good feat for a freshman to make the travel squad.
  16. Good points for sure BigPurple but I would say as performing well on a big stage I would think that 14-A has a little edge. Lake Co. won 2 Gold Balls and Union City won theirs in 2009 against a very good So. Pitt team. Other than Huntingdon, who actually won theirs in the old AA when you guys and the Mustangs had some of the best playoff battles I had the pleasure of witnessing, the only Gold football in that district calls Bruceton home. As for teams that have made the title game LC, UC, Humboldt,Trenton have all reached the title game and 13-A you got McKenzie, Huntingdon, Dresden and Bruceton so that is even. What does all that rambling mean? Nothing!! LOL time will tell this year. Good luck to 13-A and 14-A and I hope to see teams from our Districts representing the west in the A and AA title games. Also hope to see the Bulldogs back again as well.
  17. Falcons had a good spring and ended up on a solid note in the scrimmage with Gleason, think the final tally was 2-0 in favor of the Bulldogs but was pretty much an even scrimmage with the 10 play format. The Falcons ended 3 or 4 drives inside the Bulldogs 10 yard line by running out of plays and also the Bulldogs had 4 turnovers in which they got the ball back in the 10 play system. Gleason scored on a pass play early then on about a 25 yard run in which running back did a god job breaking tackles and keeping his feet. Lake used alot of combinations to get some looks at players in different spots and rotated between QBs each series. Liked the physical play displayed by the falcons but they must stay healthy as only 21 dressed for scrimmage. Now time to get in shape in summer and get ready for fall.
  18. I think it is a testament to how good rural football is in NW Tennessee. You can make an argument for either District but would agree 13-A proved to be better last year with Huntingdon and Dresden handling 14-A teams in the playoffs. Next year?? who knows flip a coin.
  19. TSSAA rule! Freshmen cannot participate in spring practice unless they are on the same campus, for instance a school that is 7-12. Freshmen at those schools, South Fulton, Gleason for example, their freshmen can dress but not at schools wher middle/high school is separate. Don't like the rule because it does hurt the small single A schools but it is what it is.
  20. Right now Falcons look very Green! Match the color of the uniforms!!LOL Numbers are low due to some attrition and other issues during offseason, around 23 players, excluding Freshmen that can't dress in spring. Have some talent in the skill spots but very inexperienced. only 5 players on the team with Varsity experience. 3 starters on Offense returning, of those only 1 is an O-lineman. Defensively, 4 starters return but only 1 in the DL and 1 at LB. Could be as many as 5 sophomores starting on either side of the ball for LC so going to be interesting to see how they develop.
  21. Scrimmage between Lake County and Gleason will be Thursday May 16th. Should start around 4:30 pm.
  22. Kazzy, would have to disagree with you on the west being the punching bag. Huntingdon was far from 1 last year to gordy, 2 point conversion from being champ. Wayne Co. was not So. Pitt's Punching bag think it kinda went the other way and UC got it done in 2009 so it is 2 and 2 last 4 years.
  23. Football1970, Lake County is going to be an EXTREMELY young team this year. They have some talent and will get better as the year goes on but return very little in experience. Had 3 upcoming Sophomores working in the secondary at practice the other day and only return 1 starting O-Lineman from last year. Will be solid at the skills, as most years, with Flowers, Caldwell and Wilkes toting the rock. Depth will be an issue as the numbers are down after a tuff off-season. Hard to say where they will rate at this point with so much unknown.
  24. Time is not set as of yet. Will post soon as I find out..
  25. Spring update, the falcons got 2 days in last week with small numbers( 19 players dressed for practice first 2 days) They have 8 players currently in baseball and 8 freshmen that cannot dress for spring. Had some attrition as some players quit, moved, dismissed in the last 2 weeks but Coach B was pleasd with the effort and attitude of the young falcons. Falcons continue spring drills th next 2 weeks ending with a Spring Scrimmage on May 16th @ Gleason.
