  1. I know Cothran is gone, I just meant if my running game was that good, i would stick to it. Sorry for the confusion.
  2. Coach Rewis has done a great job. If that line is intact, they should be alright. I would suggest that they attempt to throw more. However, if I had a stud like Cothran, I would keep feeding that beast. Good luck, Fairview.
  3. The new coach at Dekalb County High School is Victor Harrison. He was the head girls coach at Waverly Junior High were he has a state title under his belt. He was also an assistant on Bill Worrell's staff at Tennessee Tech. DeKalb Co. has got themselves a fine coach!
  4. Who is getting the girls basketball job at Dekalb Co? Who are the top candidates? Who knows what? Whoever it is has a tough job in that district.
  5. Glad to see so much maturity coming out of McEwen. It makes it hard to root for them when all you hear is trash-talk. So they have a good year; it is an aberration. Who do they play? They won't even play any regular season games in football or basketball against their natural rivals, the Waverly Tigers. As a person outside of Humphreys County, I would like to see this matchup. Everything I hear is that McEwen is reluctant to play Waverly. Too bad, it would be great for the fans.
  6. Saw this kid play, and he plays with great intensity and heart, not to mention that he is quick as a hiccup. Good luck at Lambuth! They are getting one hard-nosed player.

    Waverly Football

Waverly had a good year, don't knock it. They still have some weapons for next year. Good luck to them!
  8. It seems to me that the only thing that is unstoppable in this state is the rain.
  9. I played ball with Paul at UTM and I agree he would be a great head coach. He works hard, knows the game, and would get along great with both parents and players. Good luck Paul and Westview.
  10. Your comments on the Tigers and Coach Pullen is correct. He has had a difficult time and brought the Tigers where they are. As for the Coach Hampton comment, it is ridiculous. Coach Hampton is a good man. He is a business owner, albeit of a liquor store. He is a wonderful human being and as far as him being around just when things are good. That is a terrible statement. He has always been around and has been the #1 Tiger in this town. He has attempted to help every coach that has come after him. His motivation: he only wants the kids to be successful. So, buddy, go find someone else to bash. Coach Hampton is a better man that you could ever dream to be.
  11. Is Steve Kordisch still the head coach at Houston Co? I had heard that he turned the program around there.
  12. Frozenroper, Do you live in Cheatham Co? At Sycamore maybe. A principal that does not want middle school baseball is an idiot. It can be very helpful developmental wise. These kids get a jumpstart on high school. I think it is great.
  13. I think that wood would be good, but very expensive for middle school baseball. Using -3 differential is tough on them, but with work they can do well. I think it just take getting used to the bat. Yes, bad habits can form, but that is where coaching comes in. If you really work with the boys, bad habits can be avoided. There are pitfall to middle school baseball somewhat, but the pluses definitely outweigh the minuses. Good thread!
  14. I have coached this age group for years and I know that with the right program they will "bounce back". As for momma'a leagues, I am not totally bashing them. I think any baseball is better than none. But in the middle tennessee area that i am familiar with, middle school age kids play in a league that does not use high school regulations. I just think that acclimating these youngsters to high school coniditions can only be beneficial, and not hurtful. I would not coach this age group if I thought I was hurting a middle school age player. Done right, middle school baseball is a good thing. That is all I am saying.
  15. Personally, I think that these young men's arms will be fine. If the coach works in a good throwing program, then there should not be a problem. Remember, we are talking about kids 12 to 14 years old. They will bounce back. I for one will not let my kids throw any off speed pitch until they have thrown at least 2 to 3 weeks. If a coach uses common sense, then the kids will be fine. I am a proponent of middle school baseball, because I am not sold on the summer programs in the middle Tennessee area. I think at middle school age that too many kids are playing in Momma'a league. The mound is not 60 ft., 6 inches, and the bases are not 90 feet. These kids should be learning and playing the game the way it should be.
  16. I think that middle school baseball is the way to go! First of all, they finally get to play according to set rules such as making your grades, just like one would in high school. My team plays in a conference sanctioned by the TMSAA. Everything is great. I would agree that there are some problems especially with scheduling and facilities. But that is where the problem ends. These yound men get a dose of what it will be like in high school. They have to use the same bats, balls, and use the same dimensions on a baseball field. As for the coaching not being that great, it is better than all of the father-coaches that do it during the summer. I can assure you that all of the coaches in our conference are qualified and do a good job. I think it is a great thing and all middle schools in Tennessee should offer it. As for money, most sports programs have to fund raise anyway, so why would another sport be any different.
  17. Everyone should keep in mind that girls' softball has not been an institution in high school sports in Tennessee for as long as other sports like football, baseball, and basketball. It is a relative newcomer to sports in Tennessee. This is a sport that has been, for the most part, a summer sport. It gained its start and popularity among young ladies during the summer. Therefore, I don't think that statewide, it has been accepted with the same enthusiasm on everyone's part (coaches, administrators, fans, etc.) like the other sports. One of the previous posts spoke of how softball is really getting serious at many more schools in Tennessee. Give it time and softball will gain even more popularity and seriousness. As far as summer being better for the girls, I think the jury is out. There are some trememdous high school softball programs in the state and I think you are going to see the numbers of good programs eventually increase. Give it time! AS the sport becomes more popular, some of these young ladies are going to get into coaching and revolutionize the sports. Be patient!
  18. Region 5AA has two good ones in Loretto and Waverly. Both are in pristine condition and hold up well.
