  1. Nobody has told the Camden folks about this yet.
  2. I'm a teacher and coach too, and I was only commenting on that one particular statement. I too believe that cursing is unprofessional and inappropriate behavior. And as a teacher, I don't feel like I work for the taxpayers of Tennessee, I work to educate the children of Tennessee. People only use that line about "i pay your salary through my taxes" as a reason to think they can tell a teacher or coach how to do what they do.
  3. I just love how non-teachers always bring up the fact that their tax dollars pay my salary. How ridiculous a statement is that? Unless you stay at home and never purchase products or use services, then you can"t make this statement, because guess what....we all pay each other's salaries. I don't tell the cashier at Wal-Mart to work faster by saying "hey, I pay your salary so do what I say!" How totally ludicrous a notion! If you work at a bank, guess what, my business there pays your salary. If your are a waitress at a restaurant, and I eat there...guess what, i pay your salary. It all boils down to how people can do whatever they want to do, but when a teacher or coach even remotely angers them, they think "how dare that individual, i pay his salary through my tax dollars, he should read my mind and do what i want them to do." You know what, next time I get pulled over by a state trooper, i'm gonna tell him, "hey, my tax dollars pay your salary, so you need to rip that ticket up." I'm sure that is gonna work.
  4. Probably a much happier child! Most likely most of these young ladies are only playing so that mommy and daddy can live vicariously through them. JMO
  5. Come on, you know as well as I do, that if the kid makes the grab, then the coach is a genius for being a gambler. There is a fine line in football between between being a genius and being a goober. Coach Graves is a calculating individual and is at the mercy of his players when calling plays. He is only as good as his players, which, in reality, are not very talented. Yeah, he might have pinned them deep with a punt, or the punt could have been blocked, or maybe coach didn't have confidence in the defense. Be assured that Coach Graves thought about all of these things before he made the decision. It is so easy to sit in the stands and criticize what a coach has done.
  6. I think he can play anywhere he wants. He is that good. He is as fast a high school basketball player I have ever seen, plays both defense and offense with aggression, can shoot the lights out, and seems to be a team leader. I have seen him play twice and was blown away. He can do it all, and I wish him luck. I saw Willie Kemp from Bolivar play a lot, and Kemp went to Memphis. I believe Brown to better than Kemp, just not as tall, which doesn't matter much anyway.
  7. Dresden got a great coach in Eric Knott. Great knowledge of the game, a great stressor of the fundamentals and hard work, and a great teacher. Good luck to Coach Knott.
  8. So, is Coach Driggers getting to pick his own staff, or is he going to have to work with the old Obion staff? Because I know there are some good football coaches at Obion and Coach Driggers should think about keeping them. Just an opinion.
  9. Wasn't Minter the defensive coordinator when Notre Dame won all those games in the late 1980s and early 1990s under Holtz. Now, they had talent, and he won with them. This year's Irish defense was terrible, you know why? They had no talent on defense, period. It was painfully obvious when they played a team with talent. I don't know what you were watching. I am not a Notre Dame fan by any means, but I have a great respect for Coach Minter. To stay on topic, I am glad Chris Donald is a Vol, he is a beast.
  10. Let's also do away with Vikings (bloodthirsty Norsemen), Crusaders (millions of Christians and Muslims died in the Crusades), Devils (obvious), Knights (see Crusaders), Governors (separation of church and state), Tornadoes (kill thousands of people every year), Bears - Tigers - Lions - Cougars - Panthers (deadly carnivores), Roadrunners (Wile E. Coyote is offended), and 49ers (greedy prospectors who killed indiscriminately anyone who tried to steal their gold). I am being facetious of course, but sometimes this stuff can get so ridiculous. Let's tackle some real problems in our schools like underage pregnancy, dropout rates, drug abuse, and violence; and let benign issues, like a mascot, go away.
  11. As a casual observer of the teams of District 12-AA, I can tell you that Camden doesn't have the talent to compete. Adolph Rupp couldn't coach those boys that Camden has. Evidently, there are attitudes on the team that are almost impossible to coach. How come everytime a situation comes up like the one in the Camden-Lexington game, the coach is always at fault? Maybe fans of the Camden Boys Basketball program should try to investigate this matter before putting all blame on the coach, and that is just an outside opinion. There seems to be a prevalent attitude with high school sports these days that if a kid does something wrong, that it should be allowed. Maybe Camden's basketball coach has it right by trying to have a little discipline.
  12. But Huntingdon will be in trouble if they can't stop anyone on defense. Also, how is the offensive line situation in Huntingdon? They have some great skill people, but with no line, they might not be as formidable. Of course, Boo doesn't need that much space to break a long one. He is a freak of nature. Good luck to H-town.
  13. Alcoa probably does have it in the bag. They just lost 3 seniors. My money would be on them. Also, Lindsey is a good back, but I think West Tennessee 2A has a great collection of backs with Huntingdon's Weathers and Donald, Camden's Boyd brothers, and Westview''s Markei Guy. These guys can straight get it done. I would take any of them.
  14. Sounds like a benchwarmer who had his spot taken by a freshman. I think Coach Davis has done an admirable job. Anyone that has watched them can see that.
  15. Well said. I forgot about Lake Co. Coach Barger has the Falcon ship going in the right direction. You are right, times have changed.
  16. UC has got a good squad and should lay the smackdown on 1A this year. IMO, the only team that might give them any trouble will be McKenzie., but I still think that UC will win. They are physical and are coached solidly. Finally, Coach Fishel will have the team he wants. They have a long way to go, but with Fishel at the reins, I see them doing well.
  17. I hope they leave Coach Smith alone if he, in fact, is taking the job. He has a lot of work ahead of him. One thing that needs to be changed is for some parents and players to have a reality check. Your little johnny may not be as good as you think. If OCCHS truly has talent, then from what I hear , Coach SMith will build a winner, if he is left alone. But I don't know if that will happen. Good luck to all involved, it will be needed.
  18. If you are a competitive and talanted athlete, you will play regardless of team record and opponents winning percentages. The very soul of an athlete should be to compete even when the odds are against them. We call people that step aside and do not play because of those issues losers. Losers only play when everything goes there way. So what if they didn't like their coach, or didn't like the fact that they may lose, a real athlete sticks with it and plays. Looks to me like some people in O.C. don't have the fortitude to do what it takes to win or at least be competitive.
  19. Great post Rounder, I have been saying that for years. It is time to put the blame somewhere else besides the coaching. The talent is just not there, period!
  20. You guys are getting a great coach and a good guy in Coach Swenson. Good luck to Hickman Co.
  21. Pullen resigned liast week. The job has not been posted yet. But the word is that Trey Graves, the junior high coach, might be offered the job. Ricky Rice, the head coach at Perry Co., is another name I have heard. We shall see. Either way, the next guy at Waverly has a huge job ahead of them.
  22. I think the new coach will help. I also know that there are some good young men that could help him. It will take a while, because the whole program will need an overhaul from weight training to Friday nights, but it can be done. Good luck Dekalb Co.
  23. Joey Puckett - Riverside Heath Yoder - Camden These two might be the most dominant d-linemen in the state. They have to be accounted for on every snap. These two are bone-crushers.
  24. They have started out slow before, but with a win on MNF, they might turn it around. They have to overcome a lot of injuries. But as long as Chris Brown and that offensive line have the run game going, they will be fine. Just hope the defense can hang on until they get everyone back.
