  1. I heard good things about a kid from McMinn. Just wondering if he is as good as they think he is?
  2. I watch a lot of guys wrestle and not win even 50% of their matches. They wrestle because it is fun and challenging. I saw a Jason Hoffert not win but a few matches but he beat a state qualifer just by blind luck. He was on top of the world.Ask him I bet he will remember it just like the ladies will their wrestling experience years from now.
  3. Cumberland College has a ladies team and a girl from cookville went there a few years ago. Wrestling against the men make them better wrestlers. It a good thing to have ladies on the mat.It push a guy that just going therough the act of be a wrestler to get better. I have seen a young man push himself to win and it helped the rest of the the season. I cheer for the girl every time I saw them on the mat because of the thinking on this page.
  4. I had 3 kids wrestle and had little problems with cauliflower ear.Get a good head gear and wear it in practice too and the foam taped to them is good we have done that too. A ugly ear is nothing to be proud of. I see guys from years ago that did not take care of it and they wish they had. Tape it down with cotton balls helps some but they must be drained. Try to always be the one on top. Go get them guys.
  5. What do you think about Todd Humbert? He was good but was he feared ? Matt Keller and the guy that wrestled 189 from bradley. Not sure of the weight class but he was good. Matt was so smooth. He kept it simple but so good.
  6. McMinn has a good fan base we even have more fans than the home teams most of the times the years that we followed the teams. This goes for boys and girls. If the band and cheerleaders would show up at the games it would draw more to the games.
  7. Knoxville has several facilities thank can hold the state games. We have played at watts road, north shore, cellular fields, and one off middlebrook pike. You are always WELCOME to play in Athens. The high school and TWC fields plus the regional park. Memphis is just way to far for the team in the north east to come. Nashville area would be better if not Chattanooga.

Curtis has this girls focused on the Win now at the end of the season. That is when he does some of his best coaching. I never thought he would win against McMinn but he had a plan and it worked. Go McMinn and good luck Curtis
  9. I thought McMinn would win this game . What happened for it to be such a one sided game?
  10. In 1994 I was coaching Todd and Kellie teams and picking up stone out at the regional park so we could have fields to play on and had about 1500 soccers ball to blow up to hand out to the tri-county area. James Hoffert and I was lining off fields at city park school and athens jr. high. I built goals at work so kids would have them and I bought the materials.I refereed games. Called the high school and main office ,made contacts like Bill whom might help get us a high school team. Just so you will know.
  11. Is the SIS schedule right on Columbia Central? It must not have all the games because I went to look and was not impressed but list the teams Columbia has played and who they will play. That might impress more people. 123 does not say anything without a team to put it with.
  12. when you have the players he has had that is to be expected.Iwould like to see him coach cumberland county and see how he does.
  13. Sammy Defriese he use to coach the Midde Valley Magic. Now he is a coach of a team out of middle Tennessee. I like what he did with the girls when he was in Chattanooga. Sorry I can not remember the team's name.
  14. Have any scores form the tournament? How do the teams look?
  15. They play throught the summers and have had good coaching at the club level, many of them play for different teams and it takes a few games to get in sink. They also have a good rec program that identifies talent and they move to a higher level of competition play. Other in our districit do the same thing but not to the level McMinn does it and it all comes from the parents wanting to help their children succeed. They do lack some speed they have had in the past. They so have a deep young bench. Hope the starters will get to stay in the hard matches to get them use to post season play. Which has not happen in the past. This season will be fun to see and wish the girls luck and remember you make your own Luck. GO CHEROKEES
  16. jp2 has talent and plays very structured game but no creativity to it attack. would like to see some this year.
  17. we have played both teams and they both play a physical game but that is just part of the game.
  18. Did anyone see the game on comcast? Did anyone tape the game I would like to get a copy it was the last game for Kellie.
  19. I know of a few that change schools and used academics as the reason and they got to play their first season and one tranferred their junior year from McMinn to Baylor.

    AP Poll

Come on boys lets push the private schools to the bottom of the list. I challenge coach's of public schools, Go whip them.
  21. I like Clarksville coach.I have seen he get his teams up and do good when it come crunch time.So put me down for Clarksville to take Collierville. Bradley will win by tradition. Winning is learned so I go with the winners every time. Soddy is not bad but just a bride maid this year. GO BEARS!!!!!!!
  22. Staling needs to to go . A good wrestler hardly looses if he has to shoot. There are safer shots. I was average on the floor but great at take-downs and I will go 1 for 2 any time. Action should be rewarded.
  23. I can not believe you said you do NOT call it in high school Kevin. That is when it is the most dangerous. The kids are stronger and know how to make a hard slam look legal. You attitude is the problem a lot of refs have it too. There was a kid at bradley that used the slam way to much and it cost him a shoot at a state title because he got use to it. He crossed the line and I think he would have not if refs would have blowed the whistle a few times. Kids go as far as they can get away with.I know all of mine did. There is strong and tuff wrestling and that should be enough. I use to like to drive the kid into the mat to daze them for a few seconds and there were time it was legal and times it was not. The coaches never said to me or my sons do not do it.It is because they want to win and the win is all that counts on the score board. If just one coach would have said one thing about it to me or my boys if would not been used as much. I did with my middle kid start to say HEY do not do it as much. You know that kid was at state all 4 years and thought he might win a title. I say let SAFETY comes first.
  24. There is a tournament at the start of the season in Chattanooga every year.BUT it seems to always have someone hurt bad and it seems the same ref's every time. I have seen a big slam my oldest junior or senior year and the kid was carried out with a neck brace and on a board. NO call! I know kids get hurt mine have but let keep it safe as possible.Broke fingers, foot, cut that need stitches, shoulder stain. They've had it all.But they would not trade the times on the mat for nothing. gator bait!!!!!!
