  1. Rumor has it the KYs were originally in the tournament. I won't comment or speculate further until I get concrete proof or someone with firsthand knowledge chimes in. If I am wrong, my apologies.
  2. Topic heading has been changed to reflect updated scores. CP's humorous side (alter ego?) comes out!
  3. Wow indeed! And I can't help but ask: What is a multi-colored ball doing in a high school match? They're not legal!! I'm sure, though, the ball looks more like a blur more often than not.
  4. Glad to clarify for you. 3/5 matches are limited to two per day, save for post-season play. 2/3s are not limited by the day. Trimatches MUST be 2/3 matches. Varsity 2/3s are 25-25-25 scoring, JV 2/3s (all JVs should be 2/3) are 25-25-15. Quads are commonly played as two courts of two 3/5 matches each. Trimatch and 3/5 info comes from the 2005-2006 TSSAA Handbook, Girls Volleyball Regulations, Section 1 parts B and D. Feel free to have a look here.
  5. CP, why is there inconsistency in the match formats on the same day? A varsity should be either playing a trimatch (2/3) or a quad (2 3/5s), but not a 3/5 and then a 2/3, regardless of trimatch/quad. What's the deal?
  6. As Ahnold would say, "I want to pamp you ahp!" It's sounds like Ghost passed LJ school with flying colors! Those are characteristics of a very good line judge- something an officiating friend and I said yesterday are simply hard to find. I agree, digs. In a big match, or a match that you know will be very competitive, you need trained and competent people to work the corner. Sorry, but JV and freshmen girls don't cut it. I won't allow them to do varsity matches (unless I know the match won't be any count AND there's not many other people available.... but that hasn't happened yet). If it was a combination of any of: Brentwood, Siegel, Independence, Franklin, Collierville, East Ridge, Father Ryan, Harpeth Hall, GPS, etc... and a bunch more I can't think of right now... then I need the best folks possible. P.S. I was mentally drained yesterday, digs. I think I knew what you were saying.
  7. All Tennessee teams this year? All TN or not, it's a going to be a good show with the finest volleyball our state has to offer.
  8. I believe in his age, Digs' memory is failing! It's been well over a year since you've seen me work in that manner. Then again, I've never seen Ghost in action. Perhaps, at a later time, I'll render an opinion. You do quite a fine job down on the corner, Digs.
  9. Due to considerable interest in the results of the Choo-Choo, it has been moved and pinned in the main board for the duration of the weekend. I'll put it back under Game Info either Saturday night or sometime Sunday. Many thanks to PageMan, the Chattanoogan, ComPassion, and others for making quick results possible! P.S. The Chattanoogan ought to feature one of PageMan's fantastic game reports in their Sunday paper.
  10. Just match scores will be great! We'll all be looking forward to your detailed reports when you find the time.
  11. I put my picks in bold. If I think a team will win their pool, it's bold underline. Two bolds and no underline- too close to call, or I'm unsure of who is better. Should be a good tournament!
  12. Need schedules? Hop over to http://www.tssaa.org/schedules
  13. Great reporting PageMan! Thanks for giving us what's normally neglected statistics- ball handling errors, service errors, net violations, etc. That's the stuff folks don't usually get to see unless they're there, and it makes it much easier to understand a team's true performance. I feel like I just watched the match. Thanks PageMan!
  14. Wow! I'm impressed that BGA kept up with both Brentwood and Father Ryan with scores like that. Safe to say BGA is legit- pencil in BGA for the state tournament.
  15. The school should know. Call 'em and find out; please let us know when it is!
  16. Should be a fun one to watch. According to schedule, varsity and JV are both in action Wednesday afternoon beginning at 3:30. Three solid Nashville area teams- BGA, Brentwood and Father Ryan- should offer a great afternoon/evening for the volleyball fan, especially on a Wednesday. Wednesdays don't usually offer much in the way of action, especially a fantastic trifecta such as this. Hope someone can post results tomorrow!
  17. Topic title is now fixed, bruinfam Sounds like Ootlewah and Brentwood was a good one! Considering Brentwood got bested by a whole six points by a Tennessee team tells me that somebody brought their A-game. Congrats to Ootlewah for taking a game from the 'Wood, something not many TN teams can say, and for playing what sounds like pretty good ball. As usual, Brentwood is tearing up the court!
  18. Perhaps because not a one of us has seen every last team listed so far this season. But, knowing the history and tradition of most of these teams, I'll humor you, Digs. 1. Spring Hill 2. Culleoka 3. Briarcrest 4. Columbia Central Ok, ok, so I can't finish the post without being serious. Here's an inkling from me: Spring Hill- Were ok last year. They're a decent A-AA program (knocked down from AAA last year) Briarcrest- Took Division II state a couple of years ago. They have down years and then great years. Not sure what to expect. Smyrna- Decent AAA program. Have had some rather solid teams in recent years. Page- They're Page. 'Nuff said. Ravenwood- Young, respectable program stuck in the roughest district in the state, regardless of class. Heard very promising things. Would like to see them in person. David Lipscomb- Still looking very good after last year's state title. Losing players like Karen Dorris hurts, but they're not weak by any measure. Independence- Solid AAA program, stuck in the same tough district as Ravenwood. Will be stiff competition for all. Lafayette, KY- Made a good showing last year, and, according to our friend from KY, is still rollin'. BGA- Good program that needed to be taken to the next level. Now that they have Tracey Berry as coach, they can get there. Question is, will they? I've seen them briefly, but the jury is still out. BGA is my dark horse. Karns- Respected East TN AAA program. Fielded some good teams in the past, sent a few girls to college on scholarship. No idea about this year. Lebanon- Respectable local AAA program. Played decent ball @ Brentwood last weekend. Columbia Central- Heard they're playing well. This remains to be seen by the all-knowing volleyball fans of this site. Jury is out, but won't take long to render a verdict. Culleoka- On and off program from a decidedly weak A-AA district. Nashville Christian- No solid info out. Did ok last year @ the Classic. Hillsboro- Struggling AAA program- same district as Independence/Ravenwood. When they're on, they play decent ball. When they're off... enough said. Centennial- Solid, respected program from the same district again! Setter (Class of 2005) playing at Samford University in Birmingham. Haven't had a good look this year, but they won't be steamrolled by much of anyone at Page. Take from it what you will. Enjoy!
  19. I'm a touch confused, ghost. A 3/5 then a 2/3? Unless this was a Varsity-JV (doesn't seem to be), your tri-match should have been all 2/3. Please post what the match arrangements were. Thanks!
  20. GS, If Lafayette is playing at the same level they did last year, then Independence will be your greatest test- and most enjoyable match as a fan- in pool play. Lebanon is playing fair ball and Culleoka comes from a weak district. Page has always put on a great event and I expect it will be no less wonderful this year!
  21. While having a look at all the schedules in middle TN, I noted the schools and tournaments listed. Some of this we're all well aware of, some is new to me (and maybe to you too) Brentwood Invitational 9/16-9/17 BGA Centennial Centennial/Page Classic 9/2 Hillsboro Page Centennial Lebanon BGA Ezell-Harding Tournament 9/9 PJP II Lebanon Goodpasture LaVergne Father Ryan Tournament 9/23 Hillsboro Ensworth Franklin Classic 9/30 Hillsboro BGA Centennial BA Franklin JV Tournament 9/9 Ensworth Glencliff Tournament 9/23-9/24 CPA Maplewood BA Hillwood Clarksville NE TN Tandem 9/24 Brentwood BGA HH/St Cecilia Classic 9/2-9/3 Ensworth PJP II BA Goodpasture LaVergne Tournament of Champions – 9/23-9/24 PJP II Chick Filet Classic @ Metro Christian 9/2-9/3 Mt Juliet Christian Overton Playday 8/26-8/27 CPA Hunters Lane Hillwood Hume-Fogg Bulldog Bash @ Smyrna – 8/26 Hillsboro Lebanon Please share anything else you come across!
  22. Fantastic coverage from the Chattanoogan! Thanks for the link, PageMan. Good read.
  23. WOW! Great action on the way! Thanks for posting, PageMan. Can't wait for next weekend!
  24. I'm so glad I answer questions and don't ask very many. Action begins at 8 am and runs through either 5 or 6 pm. They will run on 3 courts, approx 50 minutes per match. Schedule should be available on-site. Tada!
