I think "scared" is the natural progression one comes to when you hear that sparta girls "didn't want to play". I've never heard anyone say its because the coach was "scared". But.... I've also not heard any other good reason. Again, it makes no sense to me why you would want to take this rivalry and fun away from kids. I'm not saying the boys coach is scared ....but i'd be willing to bet he didn't lose sleep over it considering how much he lost from last year's team. Shame on the adults that made this decision....whoever they are whatever reasons they give.

they heard it 2 weeks ago at the football game, last week at a volleyball game, and in august at a soccer game. So its just sparta basketball that is scared? Got it.

It is a msg board about high school sports. I don't think anyone on here is "pretending that they are an authority" on any subject. And the fact that you think that is the case shows how immature that you are. Maybe you will graduate from high school. I hope when you grow up you get a job and are a productive member in society. Look, I'm no MJ fan at all... but I'm not sure what your fascination with that guy is. That is multiple posts now of you trying to insinuate that he has "never put on a helmet". 1. Who cares if he has played football or not? 2. Grow up Peter Pan.... your username is about a school that lives rent free in your head. 3. Anyone with half a brain understands that his statement is another way of saying they are as talented or more talented than all the teams left on their schedule. So if they show up and don't play terribly, in his opinion, they should win. Have a nice day and chill out.

I'd like to know but if you prefer to be that way then that is your prerogative. My guess is that no matter what the excuse is, I'm still going to be correct that adults are making decisions that negatively affects kids in this case. Shame on them.

I'm not sure if you just don't like the word "scared" or "afraid" or you just think that its not sparta that is ultimately stopping this from happening. I'd be interested if you have more insight on the matter. As for baxter.... people i've talked with for 20 years now have always said that it was the girls side that was the reason CHS and baxter didn't play. I heard alot of "Dana and Mindy (Odom) won't play each other". Well , both programs at CHS have had new coaches in the last several years take over and this game still isn't happening. I don't know. You draw your own conclusions.

It is ridiculous that white county and cookeville aren't playing. Everything I've heard keeps coming back to sparta's side not being willing to play. i keep consistently hearing that from people in both circles. I don't really understand it. It isn't like this is a one-sided rivalry in boys or girls. Sure, there may be a stretch where one wins more than the other, but these games are often close and always crazy. This sounds like an adult(s) having an agenda and making a decision that takes something away from kids. It is sad that kids from both sides won't get to have this. As someone who played in this game long ago and has watched many of them, I hate this.

Yea i was incorrect about a high school football prediction. Excuse me. We looked sluggish and lethargic from the kickoff last week. Didn't look like the same team. Credit Lebanon tho for punching us in the mouth. The offense started to click a little bit as the game progressed but our defense whiffed on tackle after tackle. I haven't seen MJ play but if they have athletes like Lebanon at skill positions, I don't see us being able to stop them enough to keep up on the scoreboard.

Cookeville , Lebanon has been pushed back to 7:30 for the same reason. Weird.

I know both the head coach (Taylor Hennigan) and the OC (Zac Hennigan) played here I know of 3 position coaches that for sure played at CHS and a couple that I'm not very familiar with. The kicking coach has been around cookeville football forever and I think he played here as well a long time ago. It is nice having so many former Cavs back around.

I'll take Cookeville over Lebanon Friday. CHS is much improved on the lines of scrimmage from last year. There has been a lot of growth in this program. Unfortunately, we are a little limited by QB play. The guy we have back there now is a stud of a football player, but he isn't a great passer yet. He is strong and a tough runner, though. The coaches have done a good job of mixing up the rushing attack between him and a couple of quick backs. They throw in some jet sweeps here and there and we even caught sparta napping on a 60 yard touchdown pass last week. The defensive front 7 is decent enough but my biggest worry is the secondary. I've only seen Lebanon play Upperman and I know Upperman is good. Lebanon seems like they are just a little down. I think Cookeville will be able to run the ball on them. Give me the Cavs over the BDevils 30-24

yea, too bad sparta isn't playing Cookeville in basketball this year. Those games are always fun

Didn't Rollins actually transfer from CHS? I'm fairly sure he actually went there his freshman year. Not saying it was "illegal" but you asked for a transfer, thought i'd chime in, lol. upperman's defense is too good. If they stay healthy, it will be a few rounds into the playoffs before they are challenged. Offense obviously has some things to clean up

Go Cavs. Great game last night by both squads. Pinion is obviously a stud. Its almost not fair that you can have a guy like dowell followed by pinion and now the younger dowell trying to fill their shoes right behind. I thought the Cavs would be able to run the ball but I didn't know they would have that much success. That offensive line was really impressive last night. I love where this team is headed in the 2nd year of the Hennigan regime.

Fair point. I didn't choose my words carefully. It wouldn't be a "shock" for Macon county to win this game... it would just surprise me based solely on how upperman has looked through 2 weeks.
