  1. Hey hey...lets take it easy on my alma mater. Lets just chill out and give this new coach some time to turn things around. There are many reasons that have been hashed out over and over on here as to why the "wheels have fell off". We have never and will never had the athletes to beat the best teams in the state at the highest classification. That just is what it is with demographics and what not. BUT we certainly have enough talent and bodies to compete and not get blown out like last year. I think the new staff is taking some pride and changing things. It will be a slow process and will take years obviously but I am optimistic. I do worry about our D stopping the blue devils. I'm afraid if the offense doesn't help the D out by sustaining drives and taking some time off, this could get ugly quick.
  2. I hate to say it, but my old coacht nemesis looks like he is spot on here. Dowell is stupid good and will get his yards as usual but I don't think the defense has the goods to stop the Bison. SC by 14
  3. Obviously looking at scores , it appears Lebanon will have their way with Cookeville. Can anyone tell me more about the blue devils? Can anyone give an old man hope that the cavs can hang around a while?
  4. You may very well be right. But 2-3 games would be an improvement over last season, sadly. Just sort of the state of things as it stands.
  5. my Cavaliers try to get right this week against a young Livingston Academy team. Hopefully we can play well and gain some confidence on both sides of the ball. I have hopes for the new coaching staff but I know it will take time. I really believe in the next 4-5 weeks there will be a ton of growth. I'm sure this is a game not many on here care much about but feel free to give any takes or insight into this matchup if you know. Interesting that the game is being played at tech. Something about LA not having their field ready?
  6. baxter wins comfortably. Their run game man handled my cavs last week. I was impressed.
  7. Let me start by saying I don't advocate for any transferring for high school sports reasons only. I think it sends the wrong message to kids. I especially hate it when rules aren't followed. I have ZERO proof of any wrongdoing by baxter or any kids that may have transferred there. My statement that it had gotten out of hand was purely based on rumor in several sports lately. I shouldn't have said it on a forum like this. I apologize. The wilson county athletes you referenced moved in here when one of their dads got a coaching job here. If you ask many around, they would have preferred that didn't happen. There was plenty of railing against that. Trust me. As for the other athletes being mentioned here...I don't know half of the ones you are talking about. Again... hopefully rules have been followed in all situations. I suppose that as a proud Alumn of CHS, it stings a little when you see kids choosing to go to another school so close to home. Now for the turf. As far as I know there was no to very little money spent by the BOE on the turf field. I don't have access to financial records so obviously I don't know. It is my understanding that private donations made by businesses and alumni paid for it. I said "mostly" because there is so much heresay with all of this its hard to be sure. I'll take "reasonable" as a compliment. I think you are a reasonable poster as well. I can assure you that I lack information as I am just an old Alumn who roots for my old high school. I know a few parents of kids here and there.
  8. I don't know what a zip code pirate is but I probably don't want to meet one.
  9. I'd challenge you to find the TSSAA definition of what an open zoned school is matching yours. It isn't in the by laws and based on anything I've ever found they basically consider schools like Maryville who accept students from outside of the county or school system as "open zoned". I consider Putnam County "soft zoned" because they have zones in place for these schools , but they only exist right now for bus purposes or in the case the school becomes over crowded. Maybe you can find it for me. I don't envy you dealing with TSSAA in the past. They seem like a headache to deal with. Either way, this thread has gone off the rails a bit and I apologize for that. Enjoy the rest of the season!
  10. Your first point is well taken. Apparently some schools turn others in and some schools don't. Or rather some people at some schools turn them in when some people at other schools don't. I'm sorry you hate when people "cry". I think your definition of open zoning is a little broad but you live in your world and I'll live in mine. Good luck to baxter as they continue this season
  11. TSSAA has the authority to enforce its own rules about transfers, which is what I said, but they don't. If you begin school at a high school (open zoned or not) and you transfer without a change of residence, you are required to sit out a year. You are correct about the school board has the authority to enforce a hard zoning policy about where you attend high school. No clue about your 95% statistic.
  12. 1. The turf field was mostly funded from private donations to the football, soccer, and lax teams. If you would like baxter to get a turf field then get out and raise some money. 2. There is no enforcement of any kind of zone unless you ride a bus. There are, however, TSSAA rules regarding transferring schools and address changes. Personally I feel that they should enforce a "hard zone" based on address wheather you ride a bus or not so all of this transferring between county schools would stop. 3. Not sure about all the kids you named but Rollins went to CHS his freshman year. He is a great player.
  13. I'm under the impression from people in the know that the game was always supposed to be at tech. The game has been played at Tech the last few years because baxter doesn't have enough seating. I have no clue about playing in future years but I will say the transferring down to baxter has gotten out of hand in all sports. Sometimes even after they've been an entire year at CHS. Most of the time there is no change of address either. Good win baxter. They should be tough to handle again in their division. Running attack is death by a thousand cuts
  14. This is an interesting take on how things went down.... Gotta love the baxter beehive
  15. DB, Bartlett, CaneRidge, Lebanon Bartlett, Lebanon Bartlett
  16. Congrats Lebanon! Huge accomplishment. I know you will represent 9AAAA well. Good luck in the elite 8. Looking at it now, it sure seems like region 5AAAA is one of the best regions in the state east of memphis. Lebanon, Beech, Green Hill, Gallatin, Cookeville, not to mention a few others (how tough was Wilson Central down the stretch?!)
  17. Not exactly.... Lebanon girls were missing their best player. Cavaliers decided to play defense somewhere in the second quarter and didn't look back. Huge win for my Cavaliers!!!
  18. They actually hit 1 the second half. But your point remains. I think its a little harsh to call them a 1 trick pony. They only hit 8 threes against Lebanon. 6 were in the second half. I'd give more credit to Green Hill's defense not allowing easy drives to the rim and having a big man who is a presence in the paint. Just a thought.
  19. What are these numbers you keep posting? Power rankings? Are these yours or where are you getting them? What do they mean? Big game in Lebanon tonight for seeding purposes. Go Cavs
  20. Cookeville has also played a brutal schedule. Combine that with injuries and shuffling lineups, along with being really young .... Not sure the expectations matched reality. Not having Ayers will hurt during district play. (See the guards that control tempo vs Lebanon traps in this thread). One thing I know.... these guys won't be an easy win for anyone. You can rest assured they will get everyones full attention. Green Hill appears to be in the drivers seat with Lebanon next having the best player in the league. I do think CHS can knock them off on a given night. Wilson Central appears to be scrappy so don't count out a surprise or two from them. Mt juliet will have to get a bad shooting night from someone and an incredible hot one from themselves.
  21. I was starting to think you may have been hacked.
  22. That was a nice win last night. Gallagher is the real for the Lady Cavs
  23. uhhhhh..... ok? If you say so
  24. just my 2 cents here: I'd rank them like this... 1. Cumberland 2. Stone 3. Livingston 4. White 5. Dekalb 6/7 Upperman/Macon I just think White lost too much to be favorited in this district. I know LA and Stone lost quite a bit as well. All I know for sure is it will be a fun race to watch down the stretch.
