  1. What about getting that helicopter we used a few years ago to dry/drain off the field? Did it do any good then? Will it help now? Or does that come under the category of “unfair advantage” of the small, suburban, you-know-what schools? (Don’t use the “P” word!)
  2. Those tiny mics & earphone are inexpensive. As everyone knows, all the DI-1A "Alphabet Soup League" (ASL) schools have used them for years. I'm sure you're also aware the ASL schools have just finished linking all of our stadia [the correct plural of "stadium"] to the newest Global Positioning Satellite - Football Locator Array Processor System (known as "FLAPr"). The new FLAPr technology tells our teams the precise location of the ball (to within 1/10,000th of an inch), as well as its speed, angle of trajectory, "air hang time" (for passes, kicks, & pitch-outs), and exactly which way it'll bounce. So, catching passes and making interceptions are going to be even more of a ... um ... shall we say, "snap." Personally, I'm pleased our school's administrators went with the upgrade and got the Infrared Electro-Magnetic Imaging, Package II (known as "IMaFLAPr2"). It detects how strong of a hold the runner has on the ball. If one of our boys isn't holding the ball well enough, IMaFLAPr2 automatically yells, "Wrap both hands around it, boy! You're not carrying a loaf of bread!" He, and he alone, hears this through the personalized earphone in his helmet (which was wired for the 2-way audio system years ago). When the other team's on offense, our boys will know the runner will fumble the ball BEFORE he drops it AND which way it will bounce! So, yeah, I'm really happy with the new system. It's PACKed (know what I mean, Vern? ) with benefits. About this Ezell thing - they never can leave well enough alone, can they? First, the ASL schools got the 2-way audio systems: Radio Shack technology - pocket change. Then, we all got linked to FLAPr: nothing big, only about $800,000 per field - chump change. Could we all be satisfied with our nice & level playing fields? NoooooOOOOOooooo!!! Talking through your helmet with the coaches wasn't good enough! FLAPr wasn't good enough! So what'd the Eagles do? They upgraded above us! They got the Streaming Audio-Video Wireless Internet, Millennium Edition (known as "SAVY-me")! All their helmets must be retro-fitted to include not merely one, but FOUR, tiny color cameras (right, left, front, & back) AND a miniature 3-D view screen! (They'll be on the "visor" insert in the helmets. The transmitters will remain embedded in the helmets' frames.) Yeah, I know, right now you're saying, "So, what's the beef all about? All you've said so far refers only to simple hardware upgrades. How'd he get in hot water?" Good question. Here's the budget buster: Every time they turn the system "On" costs $1,000 PER MINUTE!!! The administration approved funding for the games, but, somehow "forgot" to fund the practices! So, he's over-running his budget something like $100,000 per week! Think he's not under the gun??? (As a side note, I can't wait to see some of the threads on CoachT next season! The Football Board is going to sizzle with: "New Poll - Which is Better: SAVY-me or IMaFLAPr2?" "Winning has a price: $1,000 per minute. Would YOU pay it?" And on the Public/Private "Debate" Board: "Small Rurals Get NASA Grant to Teach Students How to Compromise GPS-FLAPr System: Is Hacking OK When It's Done Against ASL's?") One thing's for sure though: Wayne County oughta be glad they're playing in Waynesboro! At least WCHS has a chance of winning on their home field. SAVY-me isn't yet portable! Folks, I could go on and on with this; but, I'll stop here (for now ). Oh, one more thing: ANY semblance to reality in the above post resides ONLY in our vivid imaginations. I hope you enjoyed the ride. P.S.: You may need to say aloud some of these "names" to get the full effect.
  3. Hey, anybody got a stopwatch? 'Cause in only a few seconds, this thread's getting moved to the Public/Private "Debate" board. It'll be there faster'n you can say, "Yeah, but, ... "
  4. Ah! ... That explains it! Thank you very much! :justwrestle:
  5. Hello! I discovered CoachT.com just before the football playoffs of 2002. I've found your site informative, entertaining, well structured (i.e., more than merely "well balanced") and often revealing. Well done! Carry on! I enjoy watching & playing other sports from time to time; but, my sports "mania" begins and ends with football. Hence, although I read last year's concluding posts with (my wife would say near "giddy") interest, I didn't register for posting until recently. Also, I'm quite certain my visits to CoachT.com will all but vanish by mid-December. Accordingly, I have one of the "plain memberships." (Yes, I'm a freeloader. ) Well, CoachT, I have a nuts-&-bolts posting question. I've successfully posted a few replies now, and, I know how to start a new thread. However, I tried to start a "New Poll" this morning and was greeted with the message, "The error returned was: You cannot start a poll." At first, I thought starting polls may be reserved for CoachT Plus Members. Then, I noticed some polls were recently started by posters who aren't Plus Members. I checked the Help page and saw your advice to use MSIE, not Netscape 4.7, which was what I was using when the first message appeared. I closed Netscape, opened MSIE, and got the same message. Are freeloaders like me allowed to start polls? If so, please walk me through the steps. If not, you still have a fine site. Keep going!

  7. OK, cbq, since you asked, I'll let you in on what my book---, um, ... I mean, uh, a "friend" just wired me. 1.) The regulars are going to get glazed tonight. 2.) The powdereds are going to take a dusting. 3.) The chocolates are will be completely covered. Use this info as you see fit. But, I'll tell you this: my "friend" keeps me in the dough! Oh, yeah, and about those cream filled -- by a nose.
  8. Just as long as you spell the name right! A couple of days ago, some wag called me "BaldEagleNest!" Musta been from the east!
  9. GreenMan, Thanks for the word about Chad's. Sounds wonderful! Do you know if they have Take-Out (for tailgating)?
  10. OnlineLC: A.) Will not have grill. B.) Do not PLAN to bag daily limit with car. (Although I was on the bus last year when we hit the cow!) C.) Still hoping to get advice from Collinwood fans (for eating, not football ).
  11. My wife told me about the tailgating possibility when she returned from school yesterday. Is that definitely on? Is the Middle School site (mentioned above) "the place?" If so, after getting off the Trace, how do we get there? Most importantly, how about some recommendations from you Collinwood fans of some wonderful local places where we can get the necessary yummies for tailgating! In your honor, as our hosts, please inform us by using the Trojan Helmet Rating Scale: Your Ultimate Tailgating Guide of Culinary Collinwood. 4 Trojan Helmets: The food is so good, if this place had been here when the Trace was being used by Settlers, no one would have ever bothered going to Natchez! 3 Trojan Helmets: This place WAS here and Old Hickory ate here often! 2 Trojan Helmets: The food here is so good, when I bring my Momma, SHE likes it! 1 Trojan Helmet: No place in Collinwood rates only one helmet. Both times we've followed the Lions to Collinwood, we've gone straight to the field, and, then, straight home. If we get to tailgate with the gang, my wife & I would love to sample some of the local cooking. (Yes, we're Lions fans; but, we're much bigger food fans!) So, help us out, folks! Ya'll speak up and let us know where these places are AND what you order when YOU go there!
  12. Austin-East Roadrunners serving so-called "chicken," eh??? Hmmm..... You boys better watch yourselves! TSSAA will come along & declare some of your wings are ineligible! Smells mighty fishy to me!
  13. Please forgive me, TankTalk, I did not express myself well. I'm not asking you to "tackle" Tennessee High School sports all by yourself. For ANYONE to have a state-wide show, by definition, eliminates the personal, hometown feel. It would be fan-tastic to turn on your computer and hear the actual broadcast of "TankTalks." (I'm making up this name. Is your show called "High School Confidential?" I have no idea.) If your show deals only with Roane County, stick with it! I'd love to be able to hear about the never-ending, good-natured one-upmanship between Kingston, Harriman, and Rockwood (the order is critical ). Since you're already capturing a show, how about checking to see if one of your local radio stations is already on the 'net? If so, you may be able to archive the show's file and listeners in far off lands (like me, in Nashville) could replay it at their convenience. I'm not asking you to expand your show - just your "throw!" Interestingly, another thread on this matter is on the boards right now: "Internet Broadcasts this week? Both Thursday and Friday night?" That thread says WCTA-AM (WCTA810.com) broadcasts Crockett County games. There IS a larger audience already there for your show - and others like yours. Using the 'net may be a good way to reach them.
  14. Hi! We live in Franklin; but, my wife grew up in Kingston. I was about to call her & tell her about tonight's show when I read on the posts we can't get it here in Nashville. Then, I saw how you'd like to expand to a larger market. But, TV time is expensive. Well, what about doing some sort of 'Net simulcast sometime? (With CoachT???) You could web simulcast only the audio of your TV show (MUCH easier and cheaper than streaming LIVE audio & video), and anyone with a 'Net connection could get it. (Or, you could tape the audio, put the show's file on a server, and listeners could play it at their convenience.) I know many, many small towns have weekly radio & cableTV shows like yours. No one past the broadcast tower's reach ever gets the chance to hear these (often VERY entertaining) shows. Seems to me an answer may be literally at our fingertips.
