  1. Cap1, I sure appreciate you and MC's dad talking with my son tonight at the game...it meant a lot to him for you all to take the time to talk with him...he has had a tough time with his knee surgery and subsequent staph infection and bloodclot, it was very nice of you all to be concerned...he really enjoyed talking with you...Thank you...and just so that you know, there is a house for sale just around the corner from me here in Kingsport...good luck the rest of the way...it is a long season and things will work out... Merry Christmas. Roll Tribe Roll
  2. Stokomo, I love you and you know that...you also know that I had a son who was verbally abused by the opposition's fans for two years, he had his mother and sisters cursed and threatened by phone calls at all hours of the night, was double teamed, talked trash to, and all sorts of other things that happen on the court (that is just part of the game)....but he NEVER countered the things that bothered him by trying to hurt someone...he tried and succeeded at outplaying his opposition...he was a victim of the leg-whip last year, as was Coty, and Justin (and I have the video because I want it) but he didn't respond by trying to hurt someone, he simply led his team to victory over the Falcons...you know better and have more character than to defend that type of activity...there is a difference between physical and classless and the leg-whip is classless and an attempt to injure - period...I have never accused Coach Whitt of teaching this, but he hasn't disciplined it, either...Stokomo, I am very proud of you and you know that and you don't have to validate your character with me, I'd stand up for you anyday...but, the leg-whip and it's mentality has to stop. Merry Christmas. Roll Tribe Roll
  3. As an observer who no longer has a dog in the hunt...two examples of "not" the way to play the game (whether taught by a coach or otherwise)...both coming in the D-B vs. Volunteer game...and you can see them both on video...example #1: #44 for Volunteer posted up the aforementioned Bronson Flack and had good position to receive a pass, but decided instead that he would take his elbow up into Bronson's chin...had good position with the elbow in his chest, but made the obvious move to the chin (above his own shoulder) and this was not a quick thrown elbow, but rather an elbow placed to the chin; he was called for a foul...example #2: Cradic has the ball on the right wing, has the ball knocked away from him by Justin Sylvester, Sylvester picks up the loose ball and starts to dribble, when Cradic throws a leg whip that would be red-carded in soccer to trip Sylvester (now, Sylvester was called for a slapping foul); but the leg-whip is a normal classless maneuver from Cradic when he is ripped or guarded well and it has been for at least a couple of years...both examples are again "not" the way to play basketball, but are examples seen frequently from some of the players on the Falcons team...video examples are hard to argue with... 4. D-B 76 Sullivan Central 24 Central scores 4 points in the 2nd half...D-B has only seen one worthy high school team, thusfar, the Admirals of Farragut. Roll Tribe Roll
  5. D-B was very competitive statewide and won the Arby's when Steve Shipley was coaching. Roll Tribe Roll
  6. anybody know anything about the D-B game?
  7. Congratulations Bearden...way to represent the Big East Conference...Good luck next week. Roll Tribe Roll
  8. The Coach Gundy thing was attempted humor, he is the coach at Oklahoma State, trying to lighten this up a bit...anyway...I would want the coaches to think positive and to attempt to be able to say something positive about the play on the field...Coach Clark had a lot of positive things to say about the receivers when they were dropping passes, that they would catch the ball, he believed that and he had a lot to say positively about the offensive line and the effort of the team, the heart...all those things are good and it seems you may agree with that...just not when directed toward the QB position...do I misunderstand your position?...if so, I'd appreciate you explaining further...and I am not sure what inaccurate "facts" you are referring to...thanks Roll Tribe Roll
  9. Gosh, with your attitude Plowboy, maybe you should write a summary...but then you have to man up and put your name on it...the passes I referred to were the ones that should have been caught, not the bad passes...the passes that were dropped, for example the eight dropped passes at WM. Blount; had those been caught it might have made a difference in the Indians offensive effectiveness...didn't drop any against Jefferson County and the offense had good balance and was effective...is there a D-B QB that I should have seen that was perfect?...and now you are are "not trying to down" two players...we may have to get Coach Gundy after you... 10. Come on guys, game management and production are the same thing...when the receivers have caught passes and we can get the defense out of the box, this offense has been, can be, and will be successful... Ring runs the option well, makes good decisions, has guts, and throws the ball pretty well...would look real good percentage wise if passes that should have been caught were...but sometimes that happens... Which QB has D-B had that has been perfect?...Burton, Ferguson, Kerns, Wagner, Butler, and many others were outstanding QBs, but sometimes they made mistakes...sometimes their passes were overthrown, dropped, and even intercepted... How good would Betsy's offense be if Dale Fair was ay running back and their QB hit Fuqua in stride every time?... I appreciate and respect your opinions, but for me it is beyond time to get off the kids and get behind them... Roll Tribe Roll
  11. Sensabaugh can play when he is a senior. One fumble belonged to the QB. Game management is what is being looked for and that is being achieved. Roll Tribe Roll
  12. GLee, Congratulations on Preston's opportunity...our neighbor across the street has a son who just graduated from Transy (he was a swimmer) and he loved it... Please wish him luck and much success from us. Roll Tribe Roll
  13. Yes, they are to scrimmage at Carson-Newman on August 14th or 15th. Roll Tribe Roll
  14. bud, I think the talent at Jeff County at the time with Jennings and Scooter and all the others previously mentioned, was the 2nd best in the state, behind only Riverdale...better than Oak Ridge (Corey Booker, era), better than D-B, better than Oakland, and just for you TopVol98, better than Science Hill...better coaching would have taken them where they should have gone...Jennings was a great high school player and a great kid; my oldest loved competing against him and his effort was there every time we played them, but they never won...to me, coaching wasn't up to the talent level...or hey, maybe we were better than I thought... Thank you for th e-mails, I have received them and do enjoy them... JC4life, You all had great teams, with some really fine kids,,,Jennings, Clement, and that lineman that was so tough, I think he has a little brother still playing (not sure on that and wish I could remember his name)...there were some great battles...fun football...you all will be back, too...too much tradition and community pride... 15. TriCitiesSports.com and the Times-News both were eyewitnesses to the track meet and the results...it was just probably a misprint in the Times-News... It was a really good race, tomorrow at Tennessee High should be another. Roll Tribe Roll
  16. TopVol, Yes, I was there...Solomon ran 11:17 and Curt ran 11:20...Solomon got him with the lean, as previously stated. Probably a typo in the Times-News... Fuqua did not run in the 100M...Derick Carr of Elizabethton was third at 11:53 and Lane Dukart of D-B was 4th with 11:56. Roll Tribe Roll
  17. Nobody did any name calling so quit the whining...don't hate anything about J.C, but have never gone there for something to do...another bit of inflated ego...if you don't understand the "other ramblings" then you don't really understand your town...but that is fine, too...Bowles wasn't the only thing wrong...the fact that Smith's arrival has been hailed as the wake-up call to Big East football is offensive...what he is supposedly going to bring is already here in many other schools around the region...it can be the wake-up call to the Hill to potentially play to the level of others in the conference (or higher) and that would be just fine...Happy Easter bud, I remember well the great Jeff County talent of Jennings, Scooter, Brown and Clement and how wasted they were with really poor or at best average coaching (my oldest son played against them for four years)...That talent should have accomplished much more...he may do well at Blount, but Jeff County was not a great job of coaching... Roll Tribe Roll
  18. D-B 10 TN. High 2 I think it was 18 strikeouts for D-B's Tyler Joyce Roll Tribe Roll
  19. maroonandgrey, You know, I could have gone the rest of my life without ever having to reread that crap. Roll Tribe Roll
  20. Congratulations to Powell on the win. Good luck in Murfreesboro. Roll Tribe Roll
  21. It's Josef Throp and yes he has some offers. Good luck to Powell and Maryville in Murfreesboro. Roll Tribe Roll
  22. South did a fine job...a little bit too much heat and I understand they ran out of food at times...but they did a fine job... However, a tournament should be for the teams and the spectators...(and no district record was set last year...try 1972-73 and 1975-76 and 1992-93 and a few others)...there are three facilities that can truly handle a district and/or regional tournament and they are Viking Hall, the Buck Van Huss Dome, and Freedom Hall...Freedom Hall should be the host site, as it is a neutral site and thus no one could complain about home court advantage...conference wide split of profits...it is, of course, property of the City of Johnson City and not the school system...but it is the best place east of Knoxville. Congratulations to the Toppers and good luck to them on Monday. Also congratulations to the Indians and good luck to them, as well. Roll Tribe Roll
