  1. Actually, that was Warren Central, not Marshall County...but it was at Marshall County. It's still a quality win, from all I can tell, as Warren Central is 2-1 and was picked to win their region in Kentucky.
  2. *YAWN* White Station is the best in the state. Dane Bradshaw might be overrated, but the team isn't.
  3. I've been told by several reliable sources that Marc Gasol is every bit of 7-0.
  4. Midsouth-hoops.com is a joke. I wouldn't worry about what they say, most of it's wrong anyway. You know, like Montrelle Crittendon signing with the MTSU Mocs.
  5. And yes, Jaycen Herring is *GOOD*. If he can improve as much between now and this time next year as he has since this time last year, I think he could be the best player to have ever worn a Bartlett uniform.
  6. Bartlett went 2-1. They lost to a pretty solid Jackson (Miss.) Callaway team in the first game. They struggled against Callaway's defense, but they just didn't come ready to play, IMO, not to take anything away from Callaway. In the second game, they beat the host, Forrest City, by 8...Forrest City is not very good (at all), but they have a couple of good players, and their athleticism and rebounding kept them in it. Against McComb, Bartlett basically frustrated them by slowing the game down and working the ball around patiently until they got open layups or open threes. They collapsed on Butler as much as they could, and tried to defend the other four with three guys, and it worked well enough to win the game. As for Butler, I think Lorenzen Wright is a better comparison than Elton Brand. He's not the absolute punisher Brand is, but he is tall, long, big, and good. 6-9 junior Al Jefferson from Prentiss, Miss., showed more versatility than Butler did, but Butler was a ton better in the head-to-head matchup (24p 10 or 14 tr to something like 19p 13r, much of which was at the end of the game). Jefferson had 44 points, 25 rebounds, and "6" blocks (I thought he had more like 10-12, but the stat crew there didn't give him credit for some shots that he blocked but didn't swat back into the floor or the seats) in the 7th-place game against Forrest City. Jefferson is a complete player, but he might have been lazy. I'm not sure how much of his walking around was laziness and how much was trying to avoid running out of gas because the rest of his team, save for 6-6 sophomore forward Antwan Pittman, is an embarrassment to the game of basketball and because of that, they can't afford to put him on the bench.
  7. Sorry, Gomab, generally TJ and I can help, but we're both going to school out of town. I haven't seen East since Raynardo Curry was their point guard, the last couple of times I saw Ridgeway I was paying attention primarily to Karlton Fields, Loftis did NOTHING last year for Fairley, not that that means anything now. I don't even remember if he played any last year, but I know he was on the roster. If I get a chance to see Fairley, East, or Ridgeway this year, and I don't really know if I will, I'll let you know if I do.
  8. Does coacht+ have writing classes, though? He/she would be better off paying for a tutor, and then geting coacht+ if he/she has leftover money for one.
  9. Jaycen Herring of Bartlett has taken his game to another level. He was merely pretty good last year, but he's been absolutely dominant this year. He's a *LONG* 6-4 guard who is still growing, can fly, has a decent outside shot, and is a TERRIFIC slasher. And unlike years past, he's playing good defense this year. I have a feeling you're going to move him up if you get a chance to see him this year, gomab.
  10. Hmm...not that I'm going to argue with you about that, considering who you are and everything, but I thought I read that Scooter McFadgon from Raleigh-Egypt finished his career a little better than Hubie at the free throw line. Once you get to the mid-80's or higher, it's splitting hairs, but still...
  11. Pie, I like White Station. I want them to finish second in the state every year, behind Bartlett...and to win the state every year we don't. I love what Terry Tippett does there, and I love seeing a good city school who actually plays basketball and not throw it around and shoot and rely on a press and trap defense. I'm not hating on the Spartans, I'm busting on Millington. That's why I put in there.
  12. I agree, coacht, but there is a way to count for one but not both...you just don't list it on the non-counting team's schedule. Put it in the same way you put an out-of-state game in.
  13. hshoops asked if they'd played anyone. Millington doesn't count.
  14. That's believeable, except for one thing...teams usually only practice once on the weekends. "17.1.5.4 Required Day Off-Playing Season. During the playing season, all countable athletically related activities (per Bylaw 17.02.1) shall be prohibited during one calendar day per week, except during participation in one conference and postseason championship and any postseason certified bowl games or National Invitation Tournaments, and during participation in NCAA championships. (Adopted: 1/10/91 effective 8/1/91, Revised: 1/11/94, 1/10/95, 1/9/96)" The day off is on the weekend, more often than not, so he'd be missing one practice a week most of the time. I think a coach would be willing to let a player, with especially extenuating circumstances like you say Morris has, miss one practice a week. [Edited by Opperman on 11-24-02 3:50P]
  15. As someone who works in college athletics, let me assure you that non-medical redshirts practice with the team.
  16. The Phillies will never be anything as long as Larry Bowa is their manager. I'm not sure if they'll ever be anything with Ed Wade as the GM, but I'm not convinced enough yet to say he's as big a problem. And honestly, I can't stand him, but Chipper Jones is WAY above average in the outfield. Not very good defensively, but his bat outweighs that. I think moving him to left to get a good 3B is a defensible move, but getting a proven piece of crap like Vinny Castilla is a Bonifayesque move.
  17. So let me get this straight... HEY LOOK AT ME I WILL POST THE WAY I WANT TO BECAUSE THATS JUST HOW I WANT TO TALK I DONT NEED TO KNOW ANY OF YOUR WEBSITES RULES OR ANYTHING OR SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO WRITE I KNOW HOW TO ACT ON HERE AND IF I DONT WANT TO TYPE THE WAY YOU WANT ME TO THEN I WONT DO IT AND I HAVE A TRUCKLOAD OF MONEY SO I DONT CARE WHAT YOU THINK?
  18. And, to be quite honest, 1979panther, it makes you look like an idiot. If you keep capslock on all the time, it's generally a sign that you haven't been online that long. That's fine, let me give you one of the first rules of posting online. All-caps are to be used ONLY for emphasizing a particular point. The same rule applies in everyday conversation. All-Caps is the equivalent of yelling, and somehow I doubt you'd want me or anybody else yelling in your ear the whole time they're talking to you. That's what you're doing to us by posting in all caps. Please, stop. I suspect I'm not the only one that barely ever bothers to read posts that are in all-caps...why? Because it's harder to read that way. And as for the rules of this website, your refusal to read them doesn't mean you don't have to follow them.
  19. Zero chance they keep both Maddux and Glavine, now that they have Hampton. As someone who intensely dislikes the Braves, I'm thrilled with this trade, because I think it's a really stupid move. Hampton was terrible both in and out of Denver the last couple of years, and this, the ludicrous Vinny Castilla signing, and AOL/Time Warner reining in the budget is likely to keep the Braves from being at the top. Their division is mediocre, so they may still win the division, but they aren't THAT good.
  20. Umm, what's discriminatory about that?
  21. Get a life? Uhh, yeah. I enjoy the one I have right now, actually. You don't know much about basketball, or reading comprehension, if you think I said it's easy to learn to tumble, or do a back handspring -- not that I had mentioned a back handspring at all, but I digress. I said it's as easy to learn how to tumble in a day as it is to learn how to throw a spiral in a day or to learn how to shoot a basketball in a day. Reading comprehension is a good thing. So are commas. [Edited by Opperman on 11-20-02 6:11P]
  22. Not sure why, but when I think of Chase, I see the number 10. Of course, that's Mark Martin's number, but that's beside the point.
  23. Quiz bowl has competitions too. I've spent literally months of my life on becoming a better quiz bowl player, and I was pretty good...but I'll be the first to tell you it's not a sport, and I will never consider it one. Yes, cheerleading requires athletic ability. Good cheerleaders have to work very hard at what they do, and I'm often impressed by how well-choreographed the routines are and how well the girls have their timing. But guess what? There's a lot of things out there that require great choreography, great timing, hard work, and athletic ability...and I don't consider them sports. How would games be without cheerleaders? For me, not different at all. I'm usually paying enough attention to the games that I either don't notice the cheerleaders or don't care about them. I'm usually too busy either talking about the game, listening to someone else talk about the game, or trying to catch my breath after talking about the game. How would pep rallies be different without cheerleaders? Dunno, pep rallies stunk at my HS as it was. And WCM, you can teach somebody to tumble in a day about as well as you can teach somebody to throw a spiral in one day. And about as well as you can teach somebody to shoot in one day.
  24. 23 would be Jaycen Herring, a very good wing...who's 24 this year? I'm drawing a blank on that, and I haven't been home to see them since practice started. What did Trey do to get a tech? Only time I think I've seen him play was when he got thrown out against Mandarin, Florida, at Bartlett last year...dunno if he has that problem much, but if he does, he needs to work on it. And soon.
  25. I'm not saying they are horrible people, just that they made a choice with consequences and they must stick by those consequences now. Just like the coach made a choice with consequences and he will have to stick with it now.
