  1. The officiating was horrible...The refs always seem to really make sure Wright doesn't get banged too hard...I know he gets held but he gets a lot more calls for him than against him... BTW-I am non bias, I didn't care who won, but BA got more calls.
  2. I do not believe for a second Bone is one of the Top Three players in the state in D2. If Bone did not have Brandon Wright, teams would be able to hold him to less points. Oher was ranked a top 10 preaseason player by the Commercial Appeal for seniors...would Bone have been on that list? I really don't think so. Bone is a very good player, and definitely a top 10 player in the state for D2...but thats about all. You might be right..."Bone and Heim might be better" They can probably do more things with a basketball and can definitely shoot better...but Oher is pretty much unstoppable when he wants to be... Price has been on fire lately...he might be the best guard in D2 and will be even better when his teammate Alexander gets healthy. It should be fun to see what happens next weekend.
  3. Why don't we base our opinions of the school on Child X who has a 30 on the ACT and a 3.8...that would mean the entire school has those grades and it must be a great school? Sounds far-fetched, but you are trying to do that, just the way you want to see things. P.S. I know you think we might have a vendetta against you...but I haven't seen anyone that has necessarily agreed with you...no hard feelings though, I've enjoyed this thread.
  4. I second WesVols statement. Indian...talking about a specific persons academic performance on a publicly viewed website seems like a cheap shot. This is a high school sports website, and the individual is an above average student and an above average athlete...I think those two things shouldn't go unnoticed.
  5. Two things... 1-What time is the game...and is it true that it is at Thompson Boling arena? 2-Let's not make fun of players or people on this website...in the end, it's pointless and just wastes coachT's time. I would like to go...Brandon Wright is an amazing talent to watch...and Barry Turner is a player who can really score.
  6. There was an article in the memphis paper today from the coach of Hazelwood Central in MO talking about how classy Coach Ingram and the players were...the coach even wrote a letter (after his team lost) thanking them for playing Hazelwood. You can find this article at gomemphis.com, It also talks about Ingram perhaps moving to the college ranks...it seems like Melrose must have a pretty good coach to go 37-3 in the last 3 years and have a coach who is on the cusp of moving to the college ranks.
  7. BCS does lose a lot including the QB, Oher, and a great WR...however, they will have a big time football transfer who will be eligible...I think he will be a junior he's 6'6 240...he is very strong and I'm excited to see him play.
  8. Melrose plays on grass...which is severely worn down because pee wee teams play on it throughout the week. It's so soggy it's depressing actually. They do play at Crump stadium or the Fairgrounds but that is not home games...thats against teams that do not have their own field. I am positive Melrose does not play on turf...actually I dont think any team in Shelby County does.
  9. When you start making posts that are serious, perhaps people respond with serious answers. I said their best athlete was a WR...he wouldnt be playing WR if he was such a great player would he? Quarterback (which he had to play cus their normal starter had a infection that went to the bone two weeks ago) is where he would play if not runningback if they were in the wing T.
  10. Jeff Cottam is a stud...his brother plays football for UT. Cottam made Tom Lemming's preseason top 100 team at TE...I have seen him as a top 7 tight end and at 6'7 he runs a 4.5... I dont know about the other kids...but I doubt they were top 100 in the nation...perhaps they actually did pick the best player this year?
  11. Melrose does not run the wing-T... Like I said, I was hear to clear up misconceptions.
  12. I have accused no one of cheating, I simply said both schools are able to get kidds from outside their zone, that is a fact, truth hurts... It seems out of the three individuals in this thread, I am the only one that has knowledge of both programs. I said Maryville would win the game, yet you take negative comments and dwell on them. Maryville does have some weaknesses, all teams do. Please respond if you have comments that add to this discussion, as opposed to turning this in to a recruiting debate.
  13. I'm not saying the MHS dynasty is overrated, it clearly speaks for itself, I am sorry for the ambiguity...I'm saying that I don't believe that wins state titles...Maryville does have much better coaching and probably a better kicking game...I meant to put both of those in my original post. It is worth noting that Kenny Ingram has gone like 36-3 or something like that in the three years he's been there... As far as recruiting...both of these teams are able to get kids outside their zones just as Brentwood Academy does...perhaps you don't like the analogy because it may prove true. No one has the power to recruit buddy...check the by-laws provided by the TSSAA. Your comments about me are somewhat strong...I like to think I know something about high school football considering I had a few college scholarships as well as a few coaching oppurtunities as a graduate assistant...
  14. I would have thought Barry Turner for BA would have won considering he has been looked at by teams like Miami. The other guy must be very very good. Where is the kicker for MBA going to play next year? Sparks for Briarcrest is going to Ole Miss...so that kid must also be very good.
  15. Some observations that I have garnered...I live in the Knoxville/ Maryville area, yet I also lived in the Memphis area for many, many years. 1-Why is everyone talking about how Maryville has been there before and therefore the players will do whatever it takes to win again. -I can think of several examples of teams that have gone to 4 straight title games, and somehow managed to lose. Brentwood Academy, who year in and year out has fielded the best teams in the state, has often struggled even though they have gone every year. -That idea has nothing to do with anything...Teams often fall off the map after playing so well in the state title the year before...stop and think about it, does that really matter? 2-Melrose is obviously faster, no one denies that...but I also think they have played better competetion week in and week out... -They have played much better lineman than Maryville can ever dream of. I always read about how Maryville has the best lineman...which is simply not true. Tom Lemming has ranked the top lineman in the state of TN...and Melrose has defeated all of them...In fact, three of them were top 100 players in the pre-season...Briarcrests Michael Oher (who has just won Mr. Football and lead his team to the state title last Tuesday), and East's Malcolm Rawles and Dan Williams...these three individuals are all near 300 pounds, and possibly the best prospects in the state...in fact Oher is definitely UT material and has garnered attention from every school in the nation! If you can stop a 340 pound mammoth, I'm sure you should be able to handle the strong 240 pound lineman Maryville has. 3-Melrose is not one dimensional... -I don't know why people keep saying that. No one that has seen them play has said that...Hillsboro and TN High are one dimensional...but Melrose is not. If Melrose was so one dimensional, why would one of their best athletes (Monte Wilson) be a wide receiver? Wouldn't you play him at runningback... Obviously they run a great deal since they have a Mr. Football canidate at runningback. 4-The Maryville dynasty... -Again, something I still believe that is overrated. That has nothing to do with winning the state this year. Melrose is so well thought of, that their star RB moved back from Oklahoma just to play at Melrose...MBA and Brentwood Academy probably have equally impressive dynasties and I don't think they brought home the gold this year...instead, it was a team that last won the state in the 80's (MUS). The Real Key to the Game... -If Maryville can handle Melrose up front, that will give Cade time to pass and the Rbs holes to run through...then Maryville will win. -Maryville does not have the athletes to try and break an 80 yard run on Melrose...it just won't happen...year in and year out, Melrose produces some of the best players ever... -BTW, I think Maryville wins, this post isn't to belittle either team...it's to post my observations and try and clear misconceptions from both sides.
