  1. It had to happen sooner or later. But where are all the 7AA people? All their teams are gone. Loretto is gone. Who will win the Gold Ball this year in AA. Looks like of the 16 teams remaining, the favorites would have to be Westview, Walker Valley, and the winners of the Austin East/Oliver Springs and Cheatham County/Harpeth games.
  2. The Wizards of Id are really reaching when they are celebrating a win over Knox Catholic!!!
  3. A couple teams not mentioned above that could make some noise are Jefferson County and Walker Valley. Walker Valley is a top 10-15 AA team as is Jeff County in AAA. And of course there's South Greene; Chucky Doak is also playing well. At the risk of offending the westerners, I seriously doubt we will see an all-wilson county championship final. Maybe one, but not both, and you can quote me on that!!
  4. Ballfan, I plan to make as many games as I can; who are you pulling for? and against?
  5. ptc27: If you are a David Crockett fan/player, you got to see up close and personal how good the Trojans are this year. They beat Crockett in the Happy Valley tournament today by about 35 points. A great matchup tommorrow at 5:30 is Elizabethton-Morristown West. Can the AA cyclones stay with the AAA powerful Trojans??
  6. Patriot, dream on. You better worry about your Lady Pats. Why would you be pulling so hard against Elizabethton. We didnt pour it on you too bad in our scrimmage. Your saving grace is that AAA District One is down this year. Cloudland beats Tenn High; Hampton beats Science Hill; Volunteer beats you guys; Daniel Boone may be the only good team. Krichunaka: Now what you got to say babeeeee?? Elizabethton 68 Cloudland 26.
  7. tournament is a round-robin type affair with play on wednesday, friday and saturday. Games include: Wednesday University High v Happy Valley 230 Gatlinburg Pittman v David Crockett 400 Science Hill v Hampton 530 West Greene v Elizabethton 700 Tennessee High v Cloudland 830 Friday Morristown West v Crockett 230 Tennessee High v UH 4 Hampton v West Greene 530 Cloudland v Elizabethton 700 Happy Valley v Science Hill 830 Saturday Science Hill v UH 230 Tennessee High v West Greene 400 Elizabethton v Morristown West 530 Cloudland v HV 700 Crockett v Hampton 830
  8. got to see my first live basketball of the season tonight at Sullivan North, so it follows that I should make my first Coach T post of the season. Here's what I saw: Johnson County looks like they have improved their overall game and shooting. They beat a watered down Daniel Boone tonight. Granted Boone played everyone, second teamers and JV more than starters, but the Longhorns look like an improved team. Happy Valley beat Sullivan East in a fairly close one, although HV had control pretty much the whole way and played alot more reserves than East. HV was playing with Powell who was injured. The young HV guards played well, as did Dugger and the posts. East is improved. I believe they scrimmage Elizabethton thursday. Hampton got beat by Sullivan South, although it was close in the end. South pretty much controlled this game and substituted freely. Hampton seemed to go with their starters most of the way. Elizabethton blasted Dobyns Bennett. The game was never close. Elizabethton went up by double digits early and never looked back. Both teams played everyone, substituting freely, sometimes five at a time. A downer for DB was a late injury to their talented guard Horton, who appeared to turn an ankle. Unicoi was playing Tennessee High when we left and had the early lead. Significant was that Unicoi's two top guns were in street clothes. Is Fisher playing possum or are Weaver and Sparks really not able to play? Weaver was on crutches. I had heard that Sparks had turned an ankle last week and she appeared to be walking around fine. Anybody know the deal on Weaver's injury? The freshman post Maynor looked good for Unicoi scoring their first two baskets. Unicoi, when healthy, will be real good. Science Hill was playing the nightcap against either North or Volunteer. Sullivan Central played the early game. Anybody else feel free to add their two cents here.
  9. Why did Chuck go to Twin Springs? Did he move? Whats the deal?
  10. I know Elizabethton and the Greene Co. teams are in it, but who else? This tourney usually fields 16 quality teams from all over the state.
  11. Didnt South Greene lose just one player from last years team? They have the Waddell twins back and will be tough and well coached. What did Pigeon Forge lose from last years team? I know they have the two guards and big post back. In District One, Elizabethton should be good with Baughman and Redd back for their senior years. Unicoi will be tough as well with Sparks and Weaver back for their senior years. Actually Unicoi has five seniors that may start. Sullivan Central will be improved as they return everyone.
  12. You Unaka people sure have thin skin. I have re-read the article and it actually compliments the Rangers on their season so far. It says that the fact that the Rangers are undefeated is a supurb accomplishment and says alot about the character and willingness to work hard habits of the team. How in the heck is that derogatory??? Me thinks that the Rangers are scared that the premise of the article is correct, that is Cloudlands tough schedule will serve them well tommorrow night and the Rangers may be in for another trip to the woodshed. Good luck to both Carter County teams tommorrow night. I will be pulling for the Rangers though. Cloudland deserves a beating after what they did to Unaka last year.
  13. What were the scores of the PF-CD games this year? Cyclones will play inspired and have a scorer the likes of which I dont think PF has seen this year.
  14. This game just goes to show where the cyclone talent level rises. Its in the sophomore class. As a matter of fact, the entire cyclone sophomore class is loaded. Football talent spoke for itself last night, beating undefeated DB. I dare say the varsity wouldnt fare quite as well against DB. The varsity still plays DB this year doesnt it? ......Oh good, its Daniel Boone, whew. EHS vs Dobyns Bennett varsity would be ugly. JV wasnt though. Cyclones prevailed in a great game. This same group also excels at basketball and baseball, and the junior class has some good talent as well, particularly in basketball with Nave, Henson and Atkinson, and the coaches son. The sophomore girls class is deep and talented on both the basketball and softball teams. Many played prominent roles as freshmen on varsity. I expect more than one of these units to make the State tournament before they are done. Coach Pless needs to give this youth movement some more minutes on varsity this year!! I know many of these kids are playing in varsity games but perhaps they should be playing more, especially at a couple of positions and we all those which those are!!
  15. I just caught up on this post and would offer the following observations/opinions: While McKinney as OC may be part of the problem, the head coach has the ultimate responsibility for the QB position rotation. Pless was a very good OC and learned his trade under the legendary Sid Hathaway. I have known all these coaches for years, and expect Pless to be more involved in the offense in light of the lack of production recently. Smith is not the only sophomore who should be playing more. Against East, a team vunerable (or so it seems) to the run, Brent Shaffer should get more carries than he has been. He has the ability to go the distance. Elizabethton must keep the ball away from Easts offense and to do this must mix up their game plan. I would give Jeffers the first two series, and then give Smith two and see where we are. Now if Jeffers were to lead the team to scores on both drives, I might alter my plan. Smith is an athlete that needs to be on the field. Jeffers does have a decent arm, but his lack of mobility is a big shortcoming. The defense needs to come up big for the clones to win this game. They need to hold East to 21 points or less. Should be a great game.
  16. Are you referring to Peters at QB? Seems the homers want Smith to get more PT. Is Peters still in the QB mix for the cyclones? If East is indeed vunerable to the run, it would seem that the more mobile/ option type QB would be the best chance to move the ball for Eliz. That puts Jeffers on the bench. With the offense so anemic the last two weeks, surely Pless will mix it up a bit this week.
  17. the lowlanders lost their third straight game to start the season, getting shut out last night by lowly Rye Co, VA. The lost to Hampton and Sullivan East the first two weeks. Looks like Unaka will get their revenge this year. Where are all the lander fans????
  18. cyclones-sh usuallyplay close games. this one wont be anydifferent. Former cyclone coach Jenkins is very ill. he and his family should be remembered in everyones prayers.
  19. NOTACT007 is a disgruntled Happy Valley fan. Check the history of his posts. He is Sour Grapes Supreme.........goes way yonder back to basketball season. Cant now boast about the warriors notact, cause they are grad-u-ated and done, you must put down those teams that continue the quest for the fling.......
  20. PF made excuses when the cyclones beat them in the regional semis in BB. Looks like same ole song and dance in softball. By the way, What is Crow Hopping? A new dance move? And Unicoi beat Rutledge setting up a rematch of the District 1 championship game in the region 1 final.
  21. The cyclones took control of this game in the second half with stellar defense and a whole lotta heart. Congrats to the Lady Cyclones, Region One Champions. To infinity and beyond............................
  22. 411 Big Enuff!!!! Looks like the weekly Carter county top five will have Unaka and Elizabethton as co-number ones, as champs of their respective districts!!! Four of the five Carter County schools have both their girls and boys teams in the regionals. Thats quite an accomplishment. Hampton, which probably has a more storied basketball history than any other team in the area, is the lone outcast. That has to be a bone in the dogs throat........
  23. Lookie here, this here is Roy D Mercer from Maynardville. My daughter Roylene Danielle Mercer got shafted in District 6 7/8s tournament. She was left off the all tournament team despite the fact that she had two double doubles and one triple double in the tournament. The double double games involved 11 turnovers and 10 eye pokes, while the triple double game involved double digit missed free throws, layups and landed punches. Me and my boys are coming to town to correct this injustice. It aint nuthin for me and my boys to whup a man's..........................
