  1. One thing I noticed in the Maryville game besides the glare from the scoreboard lighting up so fast was that Maryville took advantage of mistakes THS had. Some Melrose people said that Melrose has a not so good kicking game and that will really hurt them. If Maryville gets a short field to work with every time it will be bad for Melrose. DMoyers is right on about speed. We've seen it before. THS's backs were fast, but they had nowhere to run. Speed will hurt you, but if you are prepared it doesn't carry a game. Another thing that a Melrose person mentioned is that Melrose is prone to making dumb mistakes like penalties at crucial times, etc. If a team is not as disciplined as maryville that will cost them too. That was one thing that really hurt Memphis East in 2000. I for one have been waiting for this matchup for years. This game, in my humble opinion, is the best matchup of all the classes this year.
  2. No Way!!! Of course Maryville can be beat. But remember last year's loss to MoWest in the semi's (Tenn high got slaughtered by that MoWest team in the previous round) Maryville had 5 or 6 turnovers and lost by very little, in fact drove and had a chance to win it, with a sloppy field at an away staduim. Maryville will score around 20 points a game on any team, with everything going wrong. If they play their A-game, it will be in the mid 30's to 40's. In my humble opinion this game comes down to Tennessee High's schedule. Either it's legit and they are a darn good team, or they dominated a traditionally weak region which some say is even weaker this year. Just look at the quarters. Maryville beat a Central team which lost to 2 teams all year - Maryville twice, and McCallie by 2 @ McCallie. Elizabethton had 3 other regular season losses besides Tenn High. They are more of a Rhea Co. type (also with 4 losses) who Maryville played in the first round. This is not to disrespect Betsy, they earned their spot by winning, but the talent level was not as good for them this year as it has been in the past. I believe we will know by the end of the first quarter if Tenn is for real. Maryville has been tried by fire in the past few years, we know we're good. If Tenn isn't up to it, it could be a blowout. If it's close after the first quarter anything can go. Good luck to all the undefeated teams. This is a great semifinal bracket!
  3. This is a ridiculous thread. All four remaining teams are undefeated. All of these teams are capable of beating the rest. I think Maryville will make a statement Friday, though. They're not the best Maryville team in recent years but they know how to win. I have some doubts about Melrose just because they lost to Hillsboro a couple years in a row, and Maryville beat those hillsboro teams. Melrose fans - how do you think this year's team compares to past years? White House fans - people in the east don't know anything about youall. What kind of offense do you run? Defense?
  4. I don't mean right this second. It's been raining most of the day. It'll break now for a few hours with thunderstorms developing later this afternoon. Tonite will be breezy as the front passes through and thanksgiving looks to be mostly clear but cold, same for friday.
  5. Pouring buckets down here. It won't be raining though Friday, and it should have tomorrow to dry out some.
  6. From a Maryville Rebel Fan, good luck to both White House and Melrose. I hope we can beat TN high to make it to the championship. It would be a great game whomever we might play. There will be no doubt this year, whoever plays for the championship will have earned that right.
  7. NO!!! I'm not saying Maryville should move up just to be in the same region. We all know it's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. What I was saying is WHEN we move up this discussion will be a moot point, if everybody kept Alcoa on their schedules. It would be a lot easier to keep the championship going. I want Maryville to stay in 4A as long as their allowed but when they move to 5A, logically we would be in the same region with the other Blount County schools.
  8. Check out the exlusive CapitalOne offer on the Rebs-Vikings poll. Sounds like a great deal to me. I'm out for now.

  10. I really don't care one way or the other, but the best way to keep it intact would be for Maryville to move up to 5A and be in the same region as Heritage and William Blount. All three teams could still play Alcoa, and that would open up a spot each for Heritage and William Blount to play someone else, and two spots for Maryville, assuming that the region stayed the same size. GovMan- it's been awhile. Hope your family has a good thanksgiving.
  11. Not with my CapitalOne Locked Prime Rate card
  12. I believe you, but I think that the wing-T is an easier offensive scheme to adjust to than maryville which will give you multiple looks.
  13. Good solid execution of all of the above. That and the ability to make adjustments. That's why I think the wing-T will hurt Tennessee high. They may get up early, but the adjustments will hurt them later. Maryville generally plays smart football, and executes very well. Combined with some good athletes and its a formula for winning.
  14. Raider just likes to stir up the pot. He reminds me of how I was back in my youth. Tennessee fans don't get worked up, this is just a board after all and we're all just fans. I don't believe that any post on here represents our team, and probably the same for you all.
  15. Yes, the Central team could more than hold it's own against East or Elizabethon. Look, you're gettin bogged down in last weeks game. I stand by my opinion that if Central were in Region 2 they would be region champs, and theyd give TN High a run for their money in Reg. 1. They lost 3 times, twice to us, and only to McCallie, another fine team. Elizabethton is a push over this year. They've had good teams in the past, but you have to be kidding me. They deserved their spot in the quarters because they won, but they had to be the easiest quarter team in the brackets. You all definately have a chance to win. But if Maryville plays their best and Tennessee plays their best Maryville wins easily. Someone else referred to it as a "learning curve." It takes time to work your way up to state material. Look at MoWest, they lost to us several times in the semi's before they beat us. Maryville has been there done that, it's in our house, we've played stronger teams, and so obviously the advantage goes to Maryville. I'm not trying to talk alot of smack I'm just telling it how it is. Don't take offense.
  16. What Maryville game did you watch this season?
  17. I completely disagree. With TN running the Wing-T, I think it will take Maryville some time to adjust. I wouldn't be suprised to see Tennessee score first and go up like Central did. The key to this game is whether or not the Tennessee defence can stop the multi-faceted Maryville offense. Our defense will always be able to adjust, but if yours can't it will come back to haunt you. As long as there are not multiple turnovers (3 or more) and multiple penalties, it will not be a large influence. This is especially true if the teams match up well physically, as expected. Adjustments and execution (of which penalties are a part) is the key to this game in my opinion. Of course, we might just come out and blow Tennessee off the ball like the MoWest game of 2002.
  18. Tennessee High fans - don't take offense at Maryville not being intimidated like everyone else there in upper east TN. It's not just this year that matters. Maryville fans have watched not only this program but other region 3 programs kick butt. When was the last time a reg. 1 team went to state? Maryville alone has been 5 times in the last 7 years. Central went one year, and MoWest went last year. I know they beat us and deserved that trip but everybody who follows football knows Maryville would have put up a better showing than they did (can you say goose-egg). We have a lot of things going for us like homefield, tougher schedule, superior coaching, all of which is debatable, but the one thing that isn't is recent history (1972 might be recent on the history channel, but not here). Time and again, region 3 teams have shown they're better than both reg. 1 and reg. 2
  19. I know we played Betsy those years (they had some great teams) but I think in the 2000 playoffs we played Greeneville at Maryville. I remember it poured down rain, nasty weather like most semi-final games. I looked at Sonny Moore computer rankings and the Massey rankings, and both had Maryville in the top 3 in the state, with Tennessee at 19 with moore, and 12 with the massey rankings. I know they don't mean anything about an upcoming game, but they are a way to compile lots of different stats and objectify them. I would also point out that in both those rankings, McCallie is 11 and 12 respectively. Centrals a darn good team, but that's water under the bridge. I'm sure TN will be ready to play on Friday and that's good. No excuses after this one.
  20. I'll make an excuse - Central is a much better team than the closest competition TN high has played. Central has lost to two teams all season, Maryville, and barely to McCallie at McCallie. If Central was a region 2 team they would have been undefeated champions in regular season. We beat them twice. Even if the game was close with 40 seconds togo, the final score wasn't and that's what matters. If you are basing your teams abilities on the coachT strength rankings, you are in trouble. Like it or not, head to head comparisons are the best thing we have between now and friday to judge the game (that and past history) Wasn't the last region 1 team maryville played Greeneville in the semi's? They were 13-1 i believe, and we wiped the field with them. They also put up great numbers in a very weak region.
  21. I have good directions from Chattanooga. Especially if you are driving up Friday Afternoon. Take I-24 to I-75, northbound towards Knoxville. Get off at Exit 60 (Sweetwater) and go right on 68. 68 will take you through two traffic lights in Sweetwater, go straight at both. Go 10 - 12 miles until 68 intersects 411. Get on 411 north towards maryville. Stay straight until you get to Maryville (look for traffic lights and food city) Stay straight through all the lights (don't get on 129!) and 411 turns into broadway. You will see Maryville high school on the right after a couple of miles into Maryville. Going through sweetwater will be faster on a friday afternoon than going through lenoir city (exit 82). It should take you about 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours, pending chattanooga traffic around Hamilton Place.
  22. I'm not gonna trash talk here, I just want some honest opinions. I'm not downplaying a win, but I think playing Elizabethton, and a schedule full of teams like that does not benefit you against Maryville. I really do think Maryville's schedule has been tougher. What do you all think? I think Elizabethton and some other Reg. 1 and 2 teams are comprable to Reg. 4, good solid teams, but just not enough. I don't doubt that TN High has earned their spot. But I do think Maryville's had a tougher road the last two games. The only other team Central lost to was McCallie early in the season. Powell lost to two other teams besides Maryville: Knox Central and Webb. If you put Powell or Central in Reg. 4 they would be champions, plus have one less loss apeice to Maryville.
  23. Has Tennessee High been down to a team all year? I think that tonights game showed that Maryville can overcome mistakes and come back to win. That might be an issue. Also how big do you think homefield advantage is at this stage in the game? Either way I think Maryville wins. They have been here too many times before, and last years loss to MoWest is a motivator. I don't think it will be a blowout, but with everything together I think Maryville has to be favored slightly.
  24. You're right, the reigning champion is in Middle tennessee. it But Maryville has 4 gold balls in the last 6 years, so that's one reason why some of our fans act arrogant. And also, some of these kids who are in high school can't remember a time when Maryville wasn't kicking butt. Maryville made a state appearence in 1997. That means a freshman in high school now would have been in second grade then. We've been winning consistently ever since. Falcon - I think the fans are overlooking Central. I'm not, especially after the powell game. But I'm confident in G.Q. to keep the team focused. I think that all the advantages go to maryville though, except running back, and that might not be as large a disadvantage as some might think.
  25. How about Melrose. It looks like they've had two tough games in a row. Out in West TN do you think it's gonna be the same old story of Melrose losing in the quarters or semi's? Maryville had a tough game last week and I think the Central game today will be fairly close, within two touchdowns, but Maryville's still got the goods. I think if Maryville makes it to state, they will win. Since 98 they've been four times and won each time.
