  1. Men? No Thugs? Yes For the most part, anyway. There are exceptions to every rule, Tim Duncan being a perfect example of that. I would say Duncan is a man. And, there are a few others, I'm sure. But I wouldn't give you a dollar and a quarter for the rest of the rapists, drug users, wife beaters, fighters, and on and on in that league. (And, yes, before you respond by saying there are plenty of those types in football, too, I acknowledge that fact.) By the way, y'all really gotta stop taking things so personally. You're making it too easy for us to make fun of you. The "Basketball for Dummies" line is simply a take-off of a popular line of how-to books. The "real man's sport" simply made a reference to football. It is merely the opinion of the person who posted it that football is a "real man's sport," perhaps b/c football is played wearing pads and helmets and basketball is played wearing shorts and tank-tops. Now, y'all settle down, don't get your panties in a wad and engage in some intelligent debate.
  2. TNT and sportsradiotn, you both make very good points about Knight and the UT program. .... I'm sure I would be more tolerant of THE GENERAL if he was winning big at UT. Ego, I'm not a big Huggins fan, so I don't care what he does. ... Again, just a personal opinion of mine. I think we oughta be going after John Wooden.
  3. I guess I'll chime in on Knight: I don't like him at all. He's a pompous, bullying ######. His embarrassing actions have overshadowed his coaching skills and graduation rates throughout his career. I can't stand all those tantrums he throws after losing in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. .... Then again, at least he makes to the Dance. I would see Knight as kind of a stop-gap to the current problems in the program. His job would be to come in for a few years, bring some respectability to the team and stabilize the program all while grooming an assistant to take over when he retires. But, b/c Bobby is such a control freak, does he have any assistants groomed for taking over a program???? Can you see Bobby on the Big Orange Caravan? Or, how about fighting over court time for practice with Pat?
  4. If this an almost-done deal, then why are we wasting time and MONEY on a consulting firm to help with the hiring??? And, as a sidenote, Roy Williams: I like ya, but MIND YOUR OWN D@$M BUSINESS!
  5. meals makes some very good points here. I'm not a big Calipari person, but I do think Crean would do well and might consider the job if put on the short list. I can believe Huggins would leave Cincy if a good offer came along, but I don't know if he would fit in at UT, so he might not be given much consideration. There are some good young mid-major winners out there who ought to jump at the opportunity that UT offers. In the past several years, UT has lost out on coaches who wound up at places like LaSalle, probation-riddled Georgia and the University of Intramurals (Vandy). I don't call those people smart. I call them cowards for not jumping at UT.
  6. So, really what UT is looking for in a men's basketball head coach is a brown-noser who can win big at a football school and not make anyone mad in the process. Yep, should be easy to find one of those.
  7. Union City is getting ready to rise again; Lake County is returning to prominence; the Bruceton program will be back; McKenzie has the tools to be a force in Class A with or without a bevy of receivers; and I know South Fulton wants to put on a good show in its new stadium after a subpar year. Class A won't be a cakewalk for anyone. In fact, there should be some exciting football west of the Tenn. River
  8. I wouldn't fret too much if I were you. I think Huntingdon will be just fine. thumb
  9. Seems as if my good friend redbird (who DOES NOT host a Trenton radio show) is giving a big hint that KIM DECKER will be the next Rebel coach. thumb By the way, finestcopnyc, I'm not who you think I am, either. Neither is sportsradio, neither is ... oh, I could go on and on, but you're dong a good enough job of embarrassing yourself without my help. ... Seems as if you have axes to grind. Either that, or you just learned how to type and want to show off for us.
  10. People, I think we need a little historical perspective here. Remember, the last two or three coaches UT has hired have not been the first choice. We haven't picked a coach. We've settled on one. There are a lot of coaches high on my list, many mentioned here. .... But the job will go to who wants to coach at UT, not who UT wants as its coach.
  11. Key word: If That's a huge HUGE "if".
  12. When you have the offensive players and defensive players separated, not even allowed to dress in the same locker room or talk to each other on the sideline, that's a fiasco. Yes, it's true that Larry did not have a winning record overall, but he did have one over-.500 season and two 5-5 years with three state playoff appearances. He spearheaded the construction of new home bleachers (replacing the wooden ones built by the OCCHS shop class back in 1960), and he oversaw the fieldhouse project, giving OC one of the finest high school football facilities in Tennessee. Before Larry, no one wanted to coach football at OC. After he left (was forced out???) coaches lined up for the job. Fiasco?? No. I call that laying the foundation. Now, back to hoops, I think Kim would be an interesting choice. I can't believe Spencer would want to come back after all the things that were said to have happened while he was there (rumors are still discussed on occasion). So, it willbe interesting to see how that plays out.
  13. Oh yeah. Let's get Butch. ... What was it Rachel said to Ross?? Once a cheater, always a cheater.
  14. billedbetter and Cinnamon03 should get together and see if they can get a 2-for-1 discount at an English class. Try again when you learn some basics, like spelling and punctuation.
  15. Sportster, I'm beginning to think you are coach Smith's agent. So, how much is your cut??? Just having a little fun with ya. It will be interesting to see who is hired to guide the Rebels.
  16. Don't look at it as coaches "jumping ship." When a program is as successful as Huntingdon's has been under coach Mansfield, it is natural that other schools would come knocking on the door looking to grab some of that magic for themselves. In other words, I don't think the coaches moving on says something bad about Huntingdon. On the contrary, I think it says something good about the Mustang program. When you're good, you are in demand. And, Huntingdon is GOOD. Makes sense that school officials would be lining up on the doorstep of the H'don fieldhouse looking for a few good coaches to run their football programs. Then again, I am not "in the loop" at Huntingdon. MAybe you know something tha I don't Bottom line for Hickman County is that the school is getting a proven winner.
  17. Well, of course Pat and Phil want to keep Buzz around. His pathetic teams make their programs look even better. Peyton and Todd must beat the crap out of him in golf. That's the only reason I can see for their support. Dean and Roy? Well, Carolina people stick together. Once a Tar Heel, always a Tar Heel. I have never understood the mentality of university officials who key in on one or two programs and let the rest sink or swim on their own. It's just common sense to have ALL the programs doing well and competing for national championships. If there are athletic department people who want just a couple of programs to succeed and pay no attention to the others, then they should be fired. But, hey, ya know what?? I'm a Buzz guy now. Heck, he just coached the Vols to the greatest win in school history over an outstanding Arkansas team and will no doubt have his Vols pumped and prepared to destroy that other NBA franchise from Lexington, Ky. Then, its on to the semis and the finals and the NCAAs where a run at the Final Four is looking better and better. Shoot, I'm seeing another John Wooden right there on the UT bench. Ten titles in 12 years?? Move over Johnny and UCLA. There's a new dynasty in town!!!!!
  18. By the way, to all you bashers and haters of Clint Sisco ... You do realize he will be coaching Trenton Peabody in the STATE TOURNAMENT next week, don't you???
  19. And now, ladies and gentlemen, introducing the CO-head coaches of the Obion County Central boys' basketball team .... Paul and Kim Decker ! ! ! ! ! Just kidding. I don't really know who, yet. (But, Kim coaching the boys -- she already coaches a boys' traveling team -- would be interesting, don't you think???)
  20. Wait a minute here. You mean A-E has won 30 games and still hasn't opened eyes??? There's something wrong with that picture. Well, I hope your A-E team gets its respect. .... But, I really don't think that's what they're looking for. .... Seems to me that the "no respect" posts on here are done so for motivational purposes only You know, the "Hey, girls, nobody across the state is respecting you. go out and make'em respect you." ... I've always felt that was a bogus and, frankly, idiotic method of motivation.
  21. OBION COUNTY CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL "Rebels" (This was the schedule I got a QB Club meeting recently) Aug. 26 ..... at Dresden Sept. 2 ...... at Crockett County Sept. 9 ...... vs. GIBSON COUNTY Sept. 16 .... at Dyer County Sept. 23 .... vs. UNION CITY (HC) Sept. 30 .... vs. COVINGTON Oct. 7 ....... at Haywood Oct. 14 ...... at Chester County Oct. 21 ...... vs. DYERSBURG Oct. 28 ...... vs. RIPLEY
  22. I get a big laugh out of all the A-E and E. Tenn. people talking about "gaining respect." .... If you've made the state tournament and still haven't gotten any respect, it's probably because you don't deserve it. .... And, if you need to get your motivation from a fans' message board, then you're already beaten. Good luck, though.
  23. Don't know how good Union City will be, but they have a new coach: David Barker. He's young and energetic, has a fine knowledge of the game and has taken an interest in the community and the program. He's offered his assistance in improving the baseball facilities, which will also play host to a college wooden bat league team in the summer. Those intangibles should be worth a few wins in close games. ... Of course, talent helps. Anyway, getting slightly off-topic, everyone who has a chance should go watch games at all three county facilities this year. Each one has gone through some sort of upgrade, from lights at SF to landscaping at Obion Central to major renovations at UC, the atmosphere at each place will be worth the visit. The baseball ought to be pretty darn good, too.
  24. Great points. Again, I hate to be ultra-negative about people, but Dane just can't play at the SEC level. He really should have his scholarship taken away and given to a more deserving player.
  25. Well, I think just about all of us are in agreement that Buzz will get another year. I think the mandate will come down from the top to do something about his staff b/c they certainly are not carrying their weight. And, brutally said, a coach has to cut his losses eventually. .... Now, while I've been a big proponent on this thread about getting rid of Buzz, I do wonder what that does to recruiting. The Vols have not been hauling in a truckload of overwhelming talent, and rival coaches will continue to use UT's instability to keep top players from going there. .... So, its kind of a double-edge sword for the UT program right now: Stick with a coach who isn't winning and risk losing recruits b/c the program is on skid row, or change coaches again and risk losing recruits b/c the program has no stability. Pick your poison, I guess. ... I'm willing to give the current program one more year, maybe even two. But, sooner or later, the powers-that-be at UT will have to decide whether or not they want a big-time men's college basketball program.
