  1. WOW! I am stunned by the in-depth commentary of this thread!!!
  2. Oh yeah, Union City has beaten Liberty too. So, catfish, UC has beaten your No. 4, 8 and 9 teams, has a 22-2 record and has not lost to a Tennessee team yet. Ya wanna call a "do-over" on your poll???
  3. I had to double check to make sure this was a boys' thread, and then I had to double check Union City's schedule to see if I had been dreaming those 22 wins in 24 games. In looking at your Top 10, Union City has beaten Fayette-Ware (oh, but F-W probably ain't counting it since it was Hall of Fame game), and has swept season series with Humboldt. In addition, UC has swept AAA's Dyersburg and Henry County and routed both Knox Austin-East and Covington. UC, by the way, has not lost to a team in Tennessee this season, so far. 22-2. And, you think Knox Fulton is flying under the radar???
  4. Well, since its Jan. 20 and tournaments begin in less than a month, let's get the talk started. Who's hosting district and regional tournaments across the state, and who will survive and advance??? Start posting your thoughts.

  6. If that's the case, then it will be good turf. .... The stuff at Ravens' stadium looks just like the real thing.
  7. WOW! Sounds like a great game. Wish I coulda been there. Thanks for all the info.
  8. Sorry I missed that one. Probably a great game. ..... Galilee, you might not remember me, but we've had some interesting discussions about Memphis inner-city athletics. .... Hope you never took anything too personal, and your comments really helped me understand the city a little better .... Anyway, just wondering if you had seen the thread someone started saying the TSSAA needed to regulate Memphis (it's in the Boys Basketball forum). In essence, the message seemed to be that Memphis recruited. I'm interested in reading a post from you about it. ..... I believe you also said something in a post once about Mitchell having built a new school. I'd like to know more about it and where exactly it's located. I go to Memphis every so often, and I'd like to stop in an look you up someday if I have time.
  9. That's mirrors what I have said for many years. ... Under the current format, a team can lose THREE TIMES in the postseason and still advance to the state tournament, as long as you lose the right three games (district semis and consolation, and regional finals). That's a joke. .... One reason postseason in general is not as big anymore is because teams keep on playing win or lose. Why go watch Monday's night's game when we'll be playing Thursday if we lose and Friday if we win? Insane. When something has the appearance of never ending, people lose interest. .... And, quite frankly, the entertainment dollar is stretched too thin nowadays with all the games and gadgets kids and adults can purchase. For several years, the suits at ABC wondered why Monday Night Football was losing ratings. They changed broadcasters over and over, jazzed up the pregame stuff, turned Hank Jr. into a Heavy Metal man and have even tried to add sex appeal on the sideline. But, the reason MNF was losing ratings was because of ESPN, Fox Sports, Cable and Digital TV, Stadium Seating movie theaters, computers and their many games, on and on. .... In today's world, you can't just throw out a product and hope people buy it. You can't just say, "Here's the state tournament. Enjoy." You have to sell it, push it, promote it, get the host community deeply involved and get all the state's other communities involved as well. The T$$AA has to get out and take a refresher course on the state of Tennessee. Find something each community does well and build a little sideshow around it at the tournament. For instance, have a luncheon sponsored by the Strawberry Festival in Humboldt, of course serving strawberry-inspired dishes. Give free tickets to the city's festival members and offer special prices on tournament tickets to the community. .... And, it needs to be a year-long promotional effort. When was the 2005 Rose Bowl parade? Jan. 1, 2005. When did the committee begin working on the 2006 parade? Jan. 2, 2005. It takes work to make something meaningful and worthwhile. .... The state tournament needs to be a statewide event with the whole state involved. So, in essence, the state tournament needs to get bigger, not smaller.
  10. Well, goodness knows I've had my share of complaints about Memphis schools, but I'm not buying this recruiting thing in Memphis and how it keeps other teams from winning state championships. .... Union City High School, in a tiny town inside a tiny county in a rural section of the state, beat Memphis schools three times in substate play on the way to state championships in the 1990s. In 1997, UC beat Memphis Melrose in the state tournament. That Melrose team had players who went on UT on football schlarships. .... You play with what you have. Instead of moaning about Memphis teams and talent, you should look at playing a Memphis team as an opportunity. Relish the challenge, don't run from it.
  11. Well, I was wanting this thread to be about the way teams come onto thefootball field. Who's flashy, who's steeped in tradition ... that kind of thing. Hoping, of course, that some people would post photos of those entrances so we could all take a look and maybe give some ideas to coaches of our favorite teams. .... Oh well, I tried.
  12. Well, I was at Alamo tonight and saw a very good girls' basketball game. I think the OC girls grew up a lot tonight. Using underclassmen to fill the roles of injured Jenna and Tank, they seemed to step up well. The youngsters in the post showed their youth by getting pushed around a few times, not holding on to a few rebounds and missing a couple of open shots, but they also made some big plays at clutch times of the game. Central had a double-digit lead one point in the second half and looked poised to blow it open, but CC rallied and held a lead late in the game. That's where I think OC's younger girls really grew up. They kept their poise, made plays, dictated the tempo even when they were behind and then stuck their free throws at the end. Whitney and Beth stepped up at times inside, Abby was a floor leader, lil sis Jentry played calm and within her means and my girl Jen D. had a couple of big plays that usually go relatively unnoticed (pretty good considering she was sick and was short of breath after the game). And Kendra played BIG, meaning that she played much bigger than her size. She has no problem going inside and usually comes out ahead. ... This OC team is fun to watch.
  13. Very, very tragic. I remember watching him play. Always seemed to be a good kid. .... Our family prays for his.
  14. Hey, you know what' not being talked about much in reference to Giambi's grand jury testimony becoming public. ... It's illegal to leak that kind of stuff. ..... The person who leaked the testimony is almost as big a scum as Giambi is for taking the drugs in the first place. And the reporter who reported it? Well, that's just their nature.
  15. You're right. I'd like to see a big-timer in the rotation. ... Yep, 1982 has been a long time. Could be worse, though. Could be 1908.
  16. That's exactly why the rest of the league's schools should get together and kick Vandy out. .... But, the SEC likes the grade point average boost that Vandy gives to the league, so I guess nothing will ever change. .... I'd like Vandy High to be competitive. I really would. But, they're not, and they haven't been in a long time.
  17. Ya know, I've hnd my share of Sanders gripes, like the toss sweep TWO YEARS IN A ROW vs. Florida, but ..... Give the ol' ex-QB (backup to Jeff Francis) credit today. ... He called a fine game. Never took unnecessary chances, but used every page in the playbook. Kept A&M on their heels. Threw short, mid and long; Sidelines and middle. Used a diversified attack to open up both the run and the pass. .... In fact, today's Vols were a few barely overthrown passes and tackle-making blades of grass away from hanging half-a-hundred on the Aggies. .... And, all in all, everybody went home happy. Even those Aggie boys got to kiss the girls .... once .... in the fourth quarter. Fine overall game. .... Go ahead and renew everyone's contract. Even the secondary and the special teams did ok (even though Wilhoite still scares me some). 2005 could be a special year. But, even if UT doesn't win a national title, another SEC East crown and trip to Hot-lanta should be plenty. By the way, everyone e-mail that goober Trev Albert at ESPN and thank him for that little extra push of motivation. ... He predicted the Vols-Aggies game would be the biggest blowout of New Year's Day, with the Aggies winning. ... Well, Mr. Jimmy Johnson Hair Wannabe was half right.
  18. That, people, is one fantastic post. thumb
  19. Well, of course, I don't wanna go putting the cart before the horse, but this is a pretty darn good team. Yeah, I'd love for UC to have that 6-5 guy, but they're doing well. The fact that they play so well on defense in addition to their offense is what makes me think The 'Boro is in the future. But, again, you're right. Let's get past the regionals and sectional game first, and then the rest can take care of itself.
  20. (Off topic, sorry) .... Party at the fan's house. .... Big'uns only .... New Year's Day. Vols vs. Aggies
  21. Hey, I'm glad I touched off some interesting responses. I've always wondered about the Jackson schools, b/c I've seen them referenced every way possible. ... And, thanks for the MBA info. I never would have known there was a person named Montgomery Bell. ... I always assumed that Montgomery was a old community name (I never had an explanation for the "Bell"). .... So, that's all good stuff. ... Thanks!
  22. 72-58?!?!?!? Somebody call the Holidome on exit 78B. .... Looks like a team wearing Purple and Gold gonna be needing some rooms in March.
  23. Now that they don't have to beat each other to win a state title, I like both Randy Frazier and David Russell. McMillan af Westview is a very good one, too. But, I got some news for ya. .... Best coach you haven't heard of, yet: **** Eddie Suiter, Obion County Central High School **** Currently 15-2 and rolling. Has already beaten his alma mater, Westview. In two previous stops, Suiter has had to build from the ground up and did a good job. Now, he is at a program that is already rich in tradition and talent. .... Keep an eye on him. The win totals (and gold basketballs, too) are about to start piling up. thumb
  24. Ok, what you're about to read is a well-informed opinion about Shelbyville girls' basketball ... in the form of a prediction. Remember, I'm "in the know" and have vast knowledge of this subject. Shelbyville girls ..... 87 Tennessee men ..... 51
  25. Tank's the tall blonde with a lot of upside to her game. ... I think the Lady Rebs will be very good for the next several years. I see no rebuilding, only reloading. ... Sorry to put all that pressure on ya, Coach S., but you can handle it. .... What was that?? Gold basketballs?? Yeah, I think so, too.
