  1. Would love to see a West vs. Upper Cumberland Challenge again. Not just district vs. district but top teams from all classes. If the right movers & shakers got behind and promoted it I think it would be well received.
  2. As far as the communicating to people the tournament sites, WCMT has noted the split on Coaches Corner for several weeks. We try to disseminate information whenever we receive it. Can't speak to the efforts of others. In this case I have to defend the attack on the TSSAA. They DO NOT select district tournament sites. It is voted on by member schools. It was voted to split this year to lessen the burden on any one school in hosting four nights of games & providing everything that goes with hosting a tournament. Hope that helps clarify what has taken place. And don't forget to join our sister station 105.7 "The Quake" for coverage of the 14A tourney from BOTH sites.
  3. Just got word from a reliable source that Covington has forfeited all District 13AA games and been dropped to the #10 seed for use of at least one ineligible player. That's all I know at this time. Update: Release of information to media reports forfeit of all wins over season due to two ineligible transfers from fellow 13AA school Haywood County.
  4. Thanks Bigster. Trying to finalize brackets.
  5. Anyone know who won this game last night?
  6. Coaches, Please consider Brandi Goodman as a AA Miss Basketball nominee. She is currently averaging 22.3 ppg, 14.1 rpg, and 2.3 bpg and a University of Memphis commit. Maintaining her current pace and with a decent tourney run she will have a chance to break the all-time state rebounding record of 1720 held by Nikki McCray of Collierville/Lady Vol/WNBA fame. She is 36 points away from 2000 with seven regular season games left. She is the two-time reigning MVP of District 13AA and two-time TN AA All-State selection. She has led the Lady Rebels to 1) state runnerup her junior year finishing all-state herself; 2) setting school records for victories in a season twice (32 then 35); and school record for victories in a 4-yr stretch (112 and counting). Brandi maintains a 3.9 GPA. Thanks for your consideration, -- I would concur with Redbird, my esteemed colleague, that Brandi Goodman deserves to be a finalist this year. She embodies everything that the award's description is looking for in a Miss Basketball.
  7. LOL. Nothing personal taken! Thought it was funny that each time WCMT was brought up it was always "Tinkle & his crew" but statewide everybody is known. It's the price we pay for working with such a "memorable" play-by-play announcer.
  8. How come all the other teams names come to mind and Mark Franklin and I are just referred to as "the Crew?" Guess if we got to talk more we'd have more name recognition!
  9. Game will be streamed at WCMT.com. Click on Features tab, then WCMT.
  10. Tenure is the only thing that protects educators employment, though the legislature would like to take that away too. Contracts are 1-year for EVERYONE. Certainly no separate "coaching contracts."
  11. Just to clarify, the player was not suspended but ineligible due to a change of residence.
  12. Never heard of a three-year teaching contract. I gotta get me one of those!
  13. I know you meant no disrespect. Just wanted to take the opportunity to let all of CoachT know how good Coach Barger is.
  14. You guys are obviously listening to the wrong broadcaster
  15. Understand. I can assure you both from a professional view from broadcasting their games and from a personal side from working with Dawn, she is one of the best coaches I have ever seen in Class A for sure and that spans 33 years of broadcasting in West Tennessee and across the state. She has taken a program that was long on talent but short on attention and found that blend of athleticism and fundamentals that was needed. Yes, they make some turnovers and make some bad decisions sometimes but they are usually trumped by the plays that are made with the style she has implemented. I am proud to call her a friend and colleague and am especially proud of the way these boys have conducted themselves on their biggest stage for two years now. Today should be another good one between two great schools. One with a storied basketball tradition who's shown they play a little football now too and one with a history of success on the gridiron who has become a basketball power as well.
  16. I don't know whose broadcast it was but it certainly wasn't ours. I KNOW how the kids listen to and respect Coach Barger.
  17. Thanks for all the props shown for TT after her attack. As someone who has known her since she was in elementary school, taught her as well as her father and aunt, she is a quality individual as well as ball player. She is planning on majoring in forensic science in college. I am still heartsick for her today that her dreams of a gold ball were again dashed and that she was not on the floor when it happened. I hope she can win Ms. Basketball to soothe that hurt a bit.
  18. My sentiments exactly. Good luck UC girls.
  19. Agreed. But if she were at UTM she would last more than 3 weeks. The bashing part was directed more toward the follow up to your comment and comments by the same poster on another thread.
  20. As far as the Wizard comment Todd, I guess that's why Kevin offered her as a junior. I'm disappointed she didn't show interest and now they have come off her. She could have played behind Butler & Newsome for two years and honed her skills under the tutelage of some great coaches. She made that choice. As for Eddie Suiter, I think he would've found a spot for her. Get real. Could we quit bashing this young lady.
  21. Yes everything you said is the truth but it was the manner in which you presented it that was distasteful. I am thrilled to death for the Union City girls program. Eddie Suiter and Chuck Reedy are longtime friends of mine and I have spoken volumes on the radio about the development of Amber Fair this year. She has the potential, if she shores up her on-ball defense, to be a D-1 player in college. That's not just my opinion but the words of a D-1 coach today. I am pulling for Obion County and Union City to bring home gold. Just leave TT and Lake County out of your celebrations.
  22. Mistakenly listed as CPA's 1st appearance in the game program.
  23. There is no need to bash TT or Lake County. They lost to a very good team and TT has had a great career. I hate it ended the way it did. If the draw had been reversed Lake County would still be playing and Union City might be done. No disrespect to Wartburg but they would not have made it out of the district tournament in 14A. And I DO know statewide basketball and have for many years. I wish Union City well but you don't want to get cocky with Jackson County up, as you say, NEXT!
