  1. This has to be one of the funniest post I have ever read. The comedy of it is only topped by the lack of knowledge when it comes to a team sport and the leader of its team. Fact #1. The district Coach Montgomery inherited when he came to Warren County is the weakest in AAA athletics in state. Fact #2. Coach Montgomery has a record of 33-59 I believe. If that is overachieving I dont want to know what is underachieving. This year win total had 4-5 AAA wins. Fact #3 With 8 seniors he finished dead last in the weakest district in state. Not the strong district all his coaches before him had to compete in. Fact #4 Coach Montgomery team was beat by a homeschool team in its infacy. That is a no never should not happen type deal. Unexplainable. Fact#5 He quit a ballgame this year versus Van Buren co. Go back and look at what TSSAA director Bernard Childress said on record about this. I think it went something like "This isnt what we are trying to teach kids" No previous coach ever did that. I would also say that many guys that came before him would have frowned on the pulling team off floor. Fact #6 After 20+ games he is still doing his lineup by some point system in practice. If you dont have a feel after 20 games who should be on floor then you shouldnt be on bench. Fact #7 WC lost 9 of last 11 games. If that overachieving then I dont want to be an overachiever. Fact#8 His lockerroom tirade from what players are saying went way over the line. I will guarantee you Coach Meyer would not talk to players in that manner and I dont think it serves a purpose on athletic field. Language is one thing, but if what players are saying is true he went above and beyond what is acceptable. I could go on and on. Everyone will have own opinion, but mine will stay consistent. He did a terrible job and his team has got no better since he has been there. Sometimes you just got to cut a man loose.
  2. I would encourage everyone to read the Southern Standard article today. Once you have read that then go over to the Tennessean website and read their article on this past fridays events. From oneside you are getting a consistent view that being the Van Buren Co side. From WC the story changes from one article to the next. This whole thing started with the Coach was called a racial slur. Now he and the WC folks with him are trying to sell the VB players were slurring the WC players. He also got upset and finally just had enough with the costumes wore by 2 students. Now facts have came to light that these student dress up like this during bball season at homes games. I know punishments have been handed down, but still cant understand how people from WC cant see their coach just threw in towel. He quit. He walked off floor and seems to change his version of story with whatever day of week it is. No one on this site or anywhere else has said anything about a player being racially slurred during game, but I bet since this new revelation has hit the folks from WC will say" I talked to player and he said it was going on and they were all over us." You know just like 4changes had talked to Montgomery and he knew all facts. Seems like it would serve everyone if the coach just stepped up to plate and said I blew it I made mistake I should not have walked off floor. You are taking away from a game the way was played by throwing VB kids under the bus with no factual basis other than to try to save face. Just a shame. I believe WC school board should have stuck with their suspension of Coach Montgomery. Those men and women have to be smart enough to know when the story changes daily then the facts are not being given. He did not represent WC school system in a positive way with his actions. Coaches are held to higher stander. They all know this. I hope the WC leadership understands this as well moving forward. I do applaud the Southern Standard for taking the stand they did in editorial that was written. Teams dont quit. You guys at the Standard got it right this time.
  3. If what you are saying is true then the Southern Standard had it wrong because she in all likely hood would not be sitting behind the WC bench with WC fans since the VB home side sits behind the benches of both teams. So to say she was within hearing distance of what was supposedly said to her father would be inaccurate. So was the Southern Standard reporter wrong. As for Ape suit along with banana suit those students have been dressing up like that for over a year. You might to follow up on just reports and rumors before you state what you say are facts. They just didnt do this for 1 night. For some reason they do it no matter who the coach is or what color they players are. Dont know reason they do, but just wasnt a WC is coming to town deal. I think you will hear tommorrow the School Board for WC had indefinetely suspended Coach Montgomery. WC own school board was either protecting their interest or thought he needed to be punished. The TSSAA said he was ok to coach without a suspension. I think Coach Montgomery should be suspended for a period of time because IMO he quit during a middle of a game. What happens when a player in practice has something said to him by Coach Montgomery that is offensive to player. Is it ok for him to quit the team. You coach between the baseline sidelines. Had a guy ask me a great question. If Coach and WC were up 6points in OT would they have still walked off floor. If so then why did they no when they were up 10 in 4th quarter. If all these things were being said during whole game why didnt you walk off as soon as you 1st heard it. IMO unless players safety are in jeapordy you dont walk off floor. Things get said by unruly fans all the time and that will never change. You just dont walk off because of it. You continue to compete on the playing floor. Take all the Homerism hometown bias out of it. Would you want your fav college team to walk of floor. What about a hs game you are watching without hometown interest. I just dont want a team headcoach to walk off floor in middle of a great game.
  4. I am wondering what kind of punishment the TSSAA will hand down on Warren County and its coach. I always thought as a coach you coached between the sidelines and baselines. I have hard time understanding why he pulled his team off floor. If he was being taunted or name called throughout game why didnt he pull team earlier. Why didnt he go to game administator plus officials and ask for fans to be removed. Why not go to officials and opposing coach and tell them you are pulling your team instead of leaving everyone scratching their heads while this was taking place. Seems to me he didnt follow any of the proper channels for the incidents that supposedly were taking place in the bleachers. Would he have pulled his team if he was up 6 in overtime. Why would he ever push/shove/bump opposing player on way to lockerroom. I am thinking the DVD will show that if it happened. Why would a coach not be a peacemaker in a situation like this one instead of being a spark to a hostile situation. What happens to his team now if same situation arises as they go forward in the season. Hard to imagine the TSSAA not asking these type questions as they go forward in their meetings with WC. Also if your child was the one pushed if the official report says that happened then how would you as a parent respond. I personally think that is totally wrong. Laying hands on player of another team is never to be tolerated and if that happened IMO Coach Montgomery was responsible for throwing gas on a situation he has already helped start the fire.
  5. I said the same thing about last year with the talent they had. I also said that if last years team could only muster 3 wins this year would be a tough road. You dont close a 40 point gap in football overnight. WC will continue to struggle at the highschool level until changes are made in the system as a whole. Keep winning at the middleschool and enjoy it. That is as far the success goes.
  6. The worst loss in the history of WCHS. Moore Co. has slightly more than 2000 households in whole county. They have struggled all year in 1A. Moore Co. is a bad 1A football team. 19-0 at Half. I know the kids played hard, WC didnt quit, they gave it their all and many other cliche's and reasons are coming. This should never ever happen. Just waiting for all those pep rally types to tell us realistic view guys how we are the problem. Explain to me and all others how it happens to a program that is supposedly getting better with coaches that were hired outside system that had vast football knowledge with 72 players starting this year. If this type loss doesnt make you reevualate then nothing will. Explain it to us smashmouth.
  7. Once again McCobb has hit one out of park. I have read this thread twice. I cant see all the HATE that you talk about Smashmouth. I read people having opinions. I see people saying same old tired lines. We have heard this before. That isnt hateful. That is factual. People just dont like facts. Facts dont equal hate. Facts equal truth. Truth is the rebuilding has been going on for almost 2 decades. Truth is many coaches have come and gone. Some have left to go onto bigger and brighter things in coaching ranks. Truth is fan support is there to be successful as it has been for every rebuilding year. Fact is MS program has been very successfull with Coach Cotten. Truth is MS program was successful before Coach Cottern. Fact is the new upcoming JV kids really struggled last night against Oakland. Fact is Oakland JV squad looks better than our Varsity team. Fact is the district WC plays in now can be classified as one of the weakest in the state. Truth is most people believed when this district changed happened it would lead to more wins. Truths is that hasnt happened. These are facts. This is the truth. Hard to be disputed. Good Luck as Pioneers move forward. Just hope forward means the adults that oversee the whole deal will realize change is needed inside the county as a whole not just one man or one staff.
  8. McCobb has hit nail on head. The discussion stays the same. The answers are all too familar. How many times over the past decade have you heard the middle school and high school are now on same page. As far as principals are concerned how can anyone say what the actions will be of those two gentlemen. They have been in charge of their respected school for less than a month. Our new middle school principal did more damage than any other headcoach in the history of the program. Yes Mr. Gerald Tidwell is the new principal the same Gerald Tidwell that threw a helmet and hit a player in his first game coaching. How he becomes a principal in the same system is beyond me, but that is a discussion for another day. Administration change, coaches change, players change, booster club change, corporate sponsors step up with money etc., but one thing stays the same. Warren County hasnt changed. The school system is outdated and that in turn effects the sports program. New buildings are nice, but the model is broken. Warren County is being passed daily by other communities around us. We grew stagnant and complacent. This happened years ago and as a community we havent been able to reverse the trend. Boys athletics in general are poor at HS level. Nobody moves to our community. Athletes move out with parents. Very few athletes move in. This system is broken. Not just in football, but in many areas. WC is like many other small towns that have seen their prime. We didnt see need for change and now IMO it is too late. Our sports programs suffer because of this. You microvision people keep believing that the middle school high school work together philosphy plus lifting weights summer program vision is the key. This just in lifting weights and conditioning are not new ideas. These things have been here way before these players got here. Coaches have worked together before. That isnt a new concept. Some of us macrovision people know this goes deeper than just a few people at top. WC football program is a microcosm of Warren County in general. Lost in time and stuck in the mud.
  9. No team at Warren County high school has had a winning record since 1990(1991 graduating class). I believe this is correct.
  10. As I stated last year on this site, the Pioneers have very few offensive weapons since they graduated 95% of their offense. They have very little playmaking ability. Defensively they struggle to get stops. They will continue to struggle for years to come. They can put 100+ on the sideline. If you dont have players who can make bigtime plays then it is hard to score or get stops. Not knocking any young man out there busting his tail. The last senior class had some of those type kids and still only got 3 wins their Sr year. WC has went out searching for wins on this years schedule including Moore Co.(A) and Smith Co.(AA). The basketball teams did this last year. Find the Monterey,Watertown,Moore Co type schools and try to pad the win total. The problem with this is when those school beat you it truly shows everyone where the program is. Searching for wins isnt the answer. WC has been over 2 decades since a winning team has been put on the field at Nunley stadium. We keep building, rebuilding, retooling, and reloading. No one ever really addresses the problem which IMO lies at how our whole school system is setup. The county school system is a joke when it comes to building athletic teams at a higher level. We are a 6A football team that is run like a single A program. It isnt the AD's fault, the principals fault, coaches fault, or players fault. It is the fault of Warren County citizen who for some reason tried to hold onto some 1940 philosphy about their county school and all the great thing that were done in it back in the days of WWI, WWII all the way up to current day not realizing other places have passed us by long ago. Those new county facilities will be nice. The students will continue to test low in them(Warren County is one of eight school districts in the state on the current watch list by the state for those who didnt know). The athletes will continue to be behind. But hey for 15-20 million dollars for facilities what do you expect. Ever thought of maybe having 3 big middle schools and 2 highschools. Ever think our system is flawed. Ever think doing the same thing over and over expecting different results is the correct way. Ever think those county schools should be history not the current way. Good luck to the Pioneers in the coming weeks. Maybe the people who support you at Nunley Stadium will one day look forward not back in time.
  11. My biggest question on the decision the TSSAA passed for home school students is #6 on the list of regulations for homeschoolers to be eligible. The LEA may impose a participation fee for each athletic sport in which a home school athlete wishes to participate. Such participation fee shall not exceed three hundred dollars annually for each sport and shall be paid in full prior to the first regular season contest. A home school student participating at a private school shall be subject to full tuition and financial aid rules. I am reading it to mean that public schools cant charge in excess of $300 for a homeschool child to play on a public team per sport, but if the child attends a private school he or she must pay full tuiton. Not saying this is right or wrong, but IMO it takes private schools out of equation that are not DII and also makes the homeschool child go through all the regulations to receive financial aid to play at a DII school. I cant see any homeschool child paying full tuiton to play at a DI private school when tuiton can reach upwards of 4 or sometime 5 figures per year. It takes private schools and puts them at huge disadvantage when it comes to homeschoolers IMO.
  12. WC I have been saying this for the past 2 months over and over on this board. This senior class was as good talent wise as WC has had or will have in the next 5 yrs. No questions about this from anyone that know the history of Pioneer football. Northcutt will go down as a top 5 RB all time at WC. Robinson committed to D-1 school, thrower can play as well as Glenn, Martin, Harris, etc. As I said multiple times before who replaces these guys and make the team in the future better. I dont see it happening in a way that makes the program better. This isnt about having anyones back or taking sides IMO it is about the fact that WC football needs playmakers and athletes to be better as a team. In this community those difference makers are either not playing or not here in the school. The senior class record speaks for itself if you consider the whole body of work freshman all the way to friday. Still it couldnt break a string of 20 plus years of losing season. I just cant see with what is left on the field and on the sidelines that streak being broke in the next 5 years. You can preach middle school wins and program building etc all you want but that has been preached before but to no avail when it comes to winning highschool football games in a very weak district. Warren County plays 6A football with a system setup like a 2A-3A program. 1 middle school plus 6 outlying county schools will not work. It hasnt for 20 years. 40 players wont cut it at 6A. Hasnt for 20 years. Didnt cut it at 5A. No job creating wont cut it because no new families move to Warren County. You are stuck everyyear with same group of kids busting their butts that need more classmates to play and new classmates to move to community. When is last time a family told anyone they moved here because of athletics. Many have moved away because of it(lack of it). The cycle will not change if you dont change it. It is so much bigger than a Head Coach. Many of those over the past 20yrs and still no winning seasons. I believe what Madewell done with the program was truly remarkable considering all factor put in the equation. Good luck to upcoming Pioneer players and keep working hard. Maybe one day community will work with you to help reach your goals by changing the way it is done because now it doesnt. Hasnt for 20 years.
  13. With all due respect to the people of Warren County football but I will ask a couple of questions that I think will have to be addresses over the coming months in the program. How is the program of Warren County football better today than it was this time last year. Also how will WC replace the Senior playmakers that litter the field on Friday nights when they leave the program in 5 games. This group of Seniors have been as successful as any other seniors class that has walked the halls at WC minus 3 or 4 since the beginning of Warren County highschool. I just see trouble on the horizon for the Pioneer program. The talent pool that is drawn from doesnt seem to have players to upgrade the graduating young men. What make this team better next year and years to come? I know I will read responses of how players will know the system better and kids will be in weightroom and older more mature. Coaches will also know athletes and talent better. With that being said who replaces a senior backfield that has accounted for most if not all the TDS scored by WC. I also know I will read how the middleschool program is winning and better than in the past, how the younger leagues are stronger today than in the past plus the school and community now will support the program better. I also know I heard those things about 5years ago when this senior group was growing up through the youth ranks through the middleschool. Also this community supports the WC football program as well if not better than most of the teams we play. I say this because after 20 years of no winning seasons and multitude of excuses and reasons of why we struggle winning and being competitive I just dont see the type of athletes in the pipeline to replace a group of seniors that have plenty of difference makers and havent proved it time and time again over the last 3-4 years. I will also say the group of Freshmen that roam the sidelines tonight are not as talented as the group of Seniors were when they were Freshmen. The 2010-2011 Seniors have followed the path of success through all levels in WC right up until it was time to make the leap to winning program at the highschool level. They have done all that has been asked, but couldnt get to a level they thought they could as a group. I am not knocking them and hope anyone who reads this understands this. My question to all those in WC is how can WC be successful if a group of very talented Seniors who have been groomed to do so struggle mightily to win what happens when the athletes and talent is not as talented or athletic. I wish this group of Seniors much luck over the next 5 games. You have done many good things over your careers. I hope all those players on the sidelines stay healthy over the coming months. I also hope youngmen can step up and in to replace that group in the coming years. Personally IMO I just dont see it happening in a way that brings wins to the Pioneers.
  14. http://www.t-g.com/blogs/jimmyjones/ Havent heard anything about this, but Mr. Jones sounds like all homeschoolers are eligible beginning next year for TSSAA competition.
  15. Are we talking a whole overhaul of the bball program(boys and girls staff) or is this just 1 coach that will be asked to resign. Seems like this board is full of people in the know. Leaks galore.
  16. Boyd Christian is actively looking for a new girls bball coach. The principal is quoted in the local paper saying that becoming competitive in 9A is the goal.
  17. So what I am hearing is as soon as the banquet is over then all of WC struggles on the hardwood will be gone in the blink of an eye. I pick up the paper this morning and the school right down the road from WC is making a change so why is it taking so long for WC. Time is wasting away. I will believe it when I see it.
  18. This problem with WC basketball is so much deeper than the headcoaches of the highschool teams. I watched the county tournament this past month those four glorious days. What a debacle. No sound fundamental teaching. Girls and Guys just playing with no rhyme or reason. Shooting technique in the county is horrendous. Dribbling equally as bad. What about a uniform program that helps the highschool instead of hurting it. One family trying to take over the reigns from another family is what this is about this year. What about some people that actually know the game of basketball actually teaching it. You wouldnt let your children be taught math by a teacher who couldnt add so why does this county let coaches coach at a very young level who are just not that good at it. There isnt 5 qualified people coaching basketball in this county at any level. Anyone who comes in to WC and coaches will want control of the program. They wont get it. They wont come or they will leave. Control isnt what happens 9-12 grades. Control is what happens k-12 grades. Nobody has control of that with the basketball program. Dont believe me go watch what goes on in the county next year. Hargis nice philosophical speech.
  19. There is no way WC can compete for Region championships in the near future with the talent they have on the field plus the talent at the middle school level. Its not championship level material and the number of players on the field are not condusive for championship runs. Sorry Wingman but you know that statement of yours came from the heart and has good intentions, but the smart money says the WC program will struggle in the years to come. The history of the program says so.
  20. 77 can you tell where me that blog is at. I do believe some of what you said is true. The talent may be here, but it isnt on the field or the sidelines. I would be interested in reading anybodies opinion when it comes to WC athletics.
  21. The future for the Pioneers starting with this years freshmen is in one word bleak. The talent at the freshmen level in football and in this years middle school is just not up to par. Not knocking individual students, but as a group talent wise it is on par with that decade that had very few wins and losing streaks that stretched year after year. No difference makers in those age groups.
  22. The firing of Harris shows what everyone already knows. WC is backwards. Once you finish reading the Southern Standard look at the sports section very closely again. One picture in the sports section could be very interesting to WC athletics.
