  1. Possible solution: Let the winner of the 3 seed-4 seed district consolation game choose their regional seed; either 3 or 4.
  2. I didn’t believe anybody could defend the opinion of WarriorFan. I was wrong. I haven't posted in a while and really haven't followed the forums for some time, but after reading what happened in the Riverdale-Smyrna game, I jumped on CoachT to see what was being said. When I read WarriorFan's ridiculous defense of Coach Barrett's (and Coach Middleton, by association) "strategy", I shrugged it off as an immature rant by some clueless freshman or sophomore. Reading on, I was dumbfounded to discover it was an immature rant by a clueless parent. Huh. I don't think I can add anything to what’s already been posted but I do have to say that I have coached for over 30 years and have never even thought about trying to lose a game. I cannot imagine the looks of disbelief and disappointment I undoubtedly would have gotten from my young men if I had. I have to believe these young ladies must have felt this same disappointment in their own coach’s when they were told to go out and lose the game. These coaches have been entrusted by the administration and parents of their respective schools to teach their children, not only the skills of basketball, but also how to work with others, be honorable, respect authority, and deal with adversity. Although WarriorFan says that no rule was broken, I am not so sure. The Rutherford County Coach’s Code of Ethics (found here) clearly states the expectations of coaches, which were clearly not met. Although you can argue that a rule may not have been broken, you might have trouble arguing a contract was not broken. Please take a minute to read this excerpt from the Rutherford County Schools 'Coach's Code of Ethics': The coach must be aware that he or she occupies a position of great influence on the education of a student-athlete and therefore should never place the value of winning above the value of instilling the highest ideals of character. Coaches must uphold the honor and dignity of their position. In all contacts with student-athletes, officials, school administrators, competitors and the public, coaches shall set an example of the highest ethical and moral conduct. While I applaud the TSSAA decision for banning these two coaches from further tournament participation, I am sorry for the girls, for their season is also ended. I ask the coaches, “Was it worth it?†I expect the administration of both Smyrna and Riverdale to review the behavior of their coaches. I don’t know what action will be taken but, if in their position, I would have serious reservations about ever allowing these two men to be the de facto role model for any young person under my watch again.
  3. Please..., read your own quote and tell me it is anything but a back-handed slap in the face. "Couldn't get out of the first round...", "...a blind squirrel..." Actually, it is no compliment at all. It is simply flippant and arrogant. Typical Friendship. Diesel, stand up and show some pride. For gosh sakes!
  4. It is this thinking that makes people dislike Friendship so much. Schools like Watertown take the players zoned to their school and work as hard as anyone. The talent is limited to who lives in your zone. Friendship, meanwhile, swoops in and recruits the top athletes from all over Wilson Co. (and other surrounding counties) and then shoves it in the faces of the hardworking schools that don't have recruiting budgets rivaling a DII college. And financial aid? Don't get me going! AND, don't defend your post by saying, "I gave them credit." I believe your original quote was:
  5. Well, I hope Watertown locked up shop tonight because there could not have been anyone left at home. I got to the game 20 minutes early, thinking I would get a great seat in little Watertown's big gym. No such luck. There was not an empty seat in the house. I sat behind the Grace Baptist student section and had to crane my neck to watch the game. The Watertown community is obviously proud of their Purple Tigers as they showed up in droves. The crowd was loud and proud. I can't wait to see them paint Murfreesboro Purple!
  6. Wow! What a defensive clinic by Mr. Pretty and the Purple Tigers. This is the first time I have seen Watertown play (I had to see what all the hype was about) and I was not disappointed as they rolled to a 59-39 win. Their defensive pressure was relentless and unforgiving. They are very well coached and play with the same passion that Coach Bradshaw exhibits on the sideline. Grace Baptist seemed to be a good team as they had good athleticism, nice shooting and really got after the offensive boards. They could not, however, handle the merciless and frantic pace set by the Tiger 'D'. It was just turnover after turnover for the Golden Eagles as Smith, Moss and Gaines just seemed to take the ball away at will. Congratulations to Coach Bradshaw and his Purple Tigers. If they continue to play with the defensive rage they showed tonight, I have to believe they can make a run in Murfreesboro. Good Luck Tigers!
  7. Does the game start at 6:00 or 7:00 Nashville time?
  8. I hate to see Coach Keil let go, but Jim McDowell is an excellent hire. He is young, energetic, charismatic, and knowledgeable. Four darned good characteristics if you ask me.
  9. I know for a fact the young man in question was promised a 'fullride' to attend MBA. I believe an accurate quote made to the family was, "you'll never have to pay a dime." When all this happened, I, along with others assumed MBA was one of the private schools that offered 'scholarships.' Ignorance is never a good thing. Knowing the family, I would guess any money received from Coach McGugin was thought to be legitimate and legal. I, like everybody else on this board can only guess because the family will never respond to the bile being posted on this board. It literally makes me sick to listen to the people on this thread telling us "the truth". Nobody outside the family, the headmaster and the coach knows the truth. I don't know the headmaster and I don't know the coach but I DO know the family. There is nothing to be said that would make me believe they knowingly did anything wrong. They just wouldn't. If you knew the family, you would agree. I have always been a public school supporter and, to be honest, happen to be one of those full of distaste and distrust of private schools. I must say, however, that following this young man's exploits over the last 3 years found me pulling for MBA. Reading about this mess has, unfortunately, brought me back down to earth. The venom being publicly spewed toward this 17 year old is just about what I should have expected. I can't close until I comment on what a disappointment to read the post by 'bigredguard13'. I guess the thing that bothers me the most is the boy just seemed so darned proud of himself. It is just so..., well, it speaks for itself.

    MBA

I can't speak about them but I can about you. You are the one making outrageous and comtemptible statements on a public forum. You, my friend, are either ignorant about the situation (which you certainly are) or just a liar yourself. Sadly you will never know what really happened, as will none of us. The family being unmercifully persecuted would never allow the callousness of the posters on this site to drag them down to their depths.

    MBA

You have no idea what you are talking about. It is better to find out the truth than speak and embarrass yourself.
  12. Absolutely not true. The City Paper was obviously basing their reports on crap from people like you. Find out what happened before you start making accusations.
  13. Good gosh, get a life. It's 5 bucks, or 3 or 7 or whatever! It obviously goes to a good cause. With the economy in the condition it is, the schools have to find alternative ways to raise money (FOR YOUR KIDS.) Fund raisers can't raise money like they used to and contributions are not a factor in high school. Just pay the fee with a smile on your face and enjoy the game....., or stay home. The image of you running around trying to find someone to complain to while the game is going on just about makes me laugh out loud. I agree with a previous poster, this thread is ridiculous. Find a worthy cause to whine about. Sheesh.
  14. Cornerstone has a outstanding coach and a fine team. I saw them beat Southside out of Lebanon back in December and then again at the James C. Haile tournament. I didn't think anybody could do that. Congratulations. .............that being said, congratulations to Southside, from Lebanon, for winning the TNT. Those boys have been playing together for years and had an outstanding season. They will be missed but the future still looks bright with some amazing underclassmen ready to step in.
  15. Cornerstone has a outstanding coach and a fine team. I saw them beat Southside out of Lebanon back in December and then again at the James C. Haile tournament. I didn't think anybody could do that. Congratulations.
  16. Am I crazy or does this run by MBA coincide with sophomore Aaron Simonis taking over the quarterbacking duties. I have followed this kid for years and know he is the real deal. As good as he is at football, he is even a better basketball player. Congratulations MBA on the big win. Signed, Goat
  17. No doubt he is a great player but let's not blame the others for "no help at all". He gets all the credit when they win yet no blame when they lose. Let's remember this is a team game. They ALL win and they ALL lose. You obviously have never played team sports.
  18. If the player was being checked for a concussion, I think we can all agree he was hit. If Twilley purposely threw the elbow, he should have been ejected, just like throwing a fist. I don't know about all the 'real losers' but I know the real winners are the TSSAA for not allowing such actions regardless of "amazing ball handling skills and spectacular assists"
  19. As for the 'best high school player from 7AAA', you take into account what they did in high school, not college. Ramsey was a nice high school player but was not a dominant force. He often disappeared in big games and, despite being 6'8" (or whatever he was), he played small. As for comments like, "if Ramsey wasn't 6'8", he couldn't have started",.....well, that's just ridiculous. That line of logic could lead you to say, "If Chris Johnson wasn't so quick, he never would have made the Titans", or "if Kareem didn't have the hook shot, the Lakers would never have won all those championships", or "if Barry Bonds hadn't used steroids....." wait, you can say that. Other than Barry Bonds and the steroid thing, those are the God-given things that make the players great. You can't just take those things away. There have been many, many great players in this district. To try and pick out the absolute best would be futile. You would never be able to come to a consensus among readers. Older posters have seen players that younger posters might never have even heard of. An interesting idea, but virtually impossible.
  20. I got up this morning to find myself a day off and decided to see what was happening on 'CoachT'. I haven't posted in a while so I logon and, BANG, what do I find?, a siegel poster complaining! For a brief moment, I thought I was reading 'Harris' Hooligan's' circa 2005. What is it about the 'Stars' that causes supporters to feel like they are entitled to special treatment? When they get the same fair treatment of others, they scream, "Foul!" It becomes so sickening to read a post from a guy like 'SiegelGrad' that it actually borders on entertainment. I couldn't agree more. Uh, huh. Typical. You giveth and you taketh away. Are you kidding me? Me, too. Except for Siegel. Some things never change.
  21. The Simonis kid is the one everyone will be talking about real soon. He is the 'real deal'. His biggest drawback is his unselfishness. He comes from a great family and has been raised right. He has outstanding character and humility and is as good a kid as he is an athlete.
  22. My gosh. Is 'The Truth' back? Where have you been? I have heard your name come up in a recent job opening!
