  1. has the makings of a very competitive tournament. Gibson Co. dominated this event last year down in Lexington. All of the 13AA teams finished as they did to close out the regular season with Obion Central #1, Gibson co.#2, Westview #3 and D'burg #4. 14AA was a little unpredictable with McNairy knocking off Liberty and Lexington upsetting Bolivar. the upper half of that bracket could be interesting with Bolivar coming to Troy for the 2nd time this year(they played and lost to Dyersburg in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic on Feb.5th) to take on an OC girls team that won by 20 in the District 13AA Title game over Gibson Co. as they played their most complete game of the season and the other game in that upper bracket is Liberty hosting Westview in what could be a battle of two teams who like to play ball control and work clock with patient half court sets. Should be an interesting night of 7AA Hoops on Friday. Getcha POPCORN READY!!
  2. It does seem a tad askew ..
  3. It totally makes sense to come in just one day instead of two. I've been following McMinn Central for most of the season and the girls team is on a roll. We here in West TN would like to know more about MC program. I know from the State Tourney last year that Jenna Adams is one of the main offensive weapons and can block shots and rebound. Who else do we need to look for in the McMinn Central Lineup. I know they are on a mission after letting a 19 point 3rd qtr. lead get away in last year's title game to Gibson Co. I'm From Obion County and the Lady Rebels of Obion Central have been state ranked for most of the year and just won the 13AA District Championship over defending champion Gibson Co and we're just trying to get a little more info on teams from that side of the state. Thanks and best of luck to you folks.
  4. Nope- just three times in the school's history of 30 or more wins. The other years were in 1980-81 and 1985-86. The 84-85 team that advance to the state title game before losing to Humboldt had 29 wins. The most wins in a season is 31 by the 86 team that advance to the 1st round of the state tourney the same year the boys brought the Gold Ball back to Troy. We haven't seen a full solid 32 minutes from the Lady Rebs in a while but they've still done just enough to win 14 straight and have a chance to pick up the 17th District Tournament Championship in School history against the 2 time defending champs. We'll see what kind of game plan unfolds this evening.
  5. Gotta like J.Lloyd to "bucket" many times -- The Chargers take it home, inside containment of Boyd and Turner of Haywood will be key though. Don't wanna lose this one and be on the same side of the bracket with Liberty in the Regionals..
  6. Not for sure about those predictions. Both Westview and D'burg come off of disappointing losses in the semifinals. Westview had no answer for GC in the opener and the Lady Trojans couldn't hold off OCCHS in a rather lack luster played contest. D'burg should be motivated to the point where they take out frustrations on a Westview team that did not play well vs. GC .. Lady Trojans will win at home. In the nightcap, it'll be interesting what tempo will be played. GC has one of the most improved teams over the season and took the Lady Rebs to Double OT before losing in Troy back on Jan.31st. If it becomes a track meet, I like the Lady Rebels chances to win their first District Tourney championship since 2005. Should be some fun games to watch.. Getcha Popcorn Ready!
  7. Thanks Etown- I forgot that Elizabethton lost in the first round to Westview last year- the Rechis girl for Westview hit that last second shot. Both Westview and GC are still competitive but much younger than last year's squads. Obion Central's girls have a young club with only two returning starters from last year's squad that lost Miss Basketball Chassidy Fussell to graduation along with 3 other seniors. They try to be aggresive on defense and have a feature a post type of offense. Dyersburg has two outstanding athletic players in Tate and Taylor and a couple of others who can fill it up from the outside. Only one senior on the Lady Trojan squad. Those 13AA teams,(OC, GC, Westview, D'burg etc.) come together with a talented 14AA district (Liberty, Bolivar, McNairy Central etc.) to form an outstanding Region 7AA which will have its tournament played at Dyersburg. Whomever comes out of these tourneys and makes it to the BORO will definately be battle tested.
  8. etownsparky- I'm to assume you're from Elizabethton. If you would let me know more about the team- We here in West TN would like to know more info- Already know some about McMinn Central from last year's state tourney run they had. I knew Obion Central and Liberty would probably switch places after the Lady Rebels 54-45 win over Liberty this past Saturday night. Lady Rebels have a 6-2 So. Brandi Goodman who is avg. around 16 ppg and two other players(guard Macy Wright and Forward Mckenzie Tucker) each avg. around 13 ppg. Also the Dyersburg Lady Trojans led by Juniors Kay K Tate and Joleta Taylor who defeated Bolivar this past Saturday at the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. Both OC and D'burg represent 13AA which has produced the last two state champions (Gibson Co. in back to back seasons 09' and 10') and also state semifinalist Westview from the past two seasons. 13AA has been represented well the past few years at the state tournament and was wondering more about the teams from the Eastern part of the state.
  9. Can the Choctaws get through those Memphis teams and make it to the BORO???
  10. the GC/OC game last night was one of the more exciting games we've seen this season in 13AA with the Lady Rebels defending the home floor and keeping the undefeated district record in tact with a 63-61 double Overtime win. Much different than the first matchup in mid-December with the Lady Pioneers making only three 3's in that game. But last night GC was lighting it up from the outside with 12 3-pointers. Led by Junior guard Courtney Haynes with 23 points, this game was tied at 58 at the end of regulation and NEITHER team scored in the 1st OT- that's right, still tied at 58. OC outscored GC 5-3 in the 2nd overtime to take the win behind 19 points from Brandi Goodman as four Lady Rebels hit double digits. All of these district games are getting tighter the 2nd time around which has all the makings of an interesting District 13AA tourney. getcha POPCORN READY!!
  11. The Tyler kid is playing well for LC-- UC always shoots better at home- it'll be close -- any defense?? doubt it. LC in a close one 75-71..
  12. It tickle me to see both of these teams playing again and representing West TN next month in the BORO!
  13. Don't let the overall record fool you. Not the Weddle teams or the MJ Brown teams that won state titles, but still a very competitive 1A program that will make a little noise in the post-season.
  14. Seems the top five spots have been locked in for a time now. McMinn Central probably a team on a mission this year after last years as they had a 19 point 3rd qtr. lead only to see Gibson Co. come from behind to win back to back 2A state titles. I thought Jenna Adams had a monster game that day and is no doubt leading the McMinn Central charge. The top five could possibly get a shuffle next week as #3 Liberty will play at #4 Obion County Central this Saturday evening as part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. Liberty has a 6-3 post and Memphis signee Ann Jones and a couple of other players who can score and rebound. OC counters with 3 players avg. in double digits led by Sophomore Post Brandi Goodman avg. 15 ppg and Senior forward Mckenzie Tucker and Junior guard Macy Wright each avg. 13 ppg. Should be a good measuring stick for both teams as they get ready for post-season action in a couple of weeks. OC is in 13AA and Liberty in 14AA so it could be a possible Region 7AA preview as well. Also of note, another state ranked team in #6 Dyersburg from 13AA will be playing Bolivar from 14AA in another game during this Coaches vs. Cancer Classic as 8 games total will be played this Saturday at Obion County Central High School in Troy.

  17. Redbird do you have a full schedule for the classic at OC yes, here is a full schedule of games at the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Obion Central High School on Saturday Feb.5th. 10AM - Dyer Co. vs. Halls (girls) 11:30 - Munford vs. Halls (boys) 1PM - Munford vs. Jackson Southside (girls) 2:30pm- Dyersburg vs.Jackson Southside (boys) 4PM - Dyersburg vs. Bolivar (girls) 5:30pm - Union City vs. Brighton (girls) 7PM - Obion Co. vs. Hickman Co.KY (boys) 8:30pm - Obion Co. vs. Liberty (girls) NOTE- the final game of the evening pits two of the top five rated 2A teams in the state. 18. Hold on there GC- a bit of a correction- Liberty has scored wins over GC, Bolivar and I think they defeated Westview as well, but NOT Obion Co. They are scheduled to play on Saturday Feb.5th at the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Obion Central. Should be an interesting matchup and a tough test for the young Lady Rebels. Should be a fun day of hoops with 4 boys and 4 girls games beginning at 10AM that morning. Schools involved will the Dyer co. girls, Munford , Southside out of Jackson, Both Dyersburg teams will be involved as well as the Lady Trojans will play Bolivar that afternoon. The evening's final game has the OC Lady Rebels playing Liberty around 8:30 or so following the OC boys game vs. Hickman County Kentucky. With the postponment of the OC/GC game and moved to next Monday, the 31st, Obion Central will play four games next week which includes 3 district games and then hosting the #3 ranked team in the state at the end of the week on Saturday.. Getcha POPCORN Ready!!
  19. The Glass House in the "BORO" is the perfect place for the TSSAA State Basketball tourneys. Centrally located and enough hotels, restaurants, etc. to accomidate everyone. I only wish they would get that I-840 completed so the folks from the West side of the state could take it and come around to I-24, thus bypassing all the Nashville traffic. Any Idea from you Middle TN folks when that may get completed??
  20. We'll see. OC girls were in the gym a long time yesterday before their game at 4pm. Probably be a different routine today.. The main thing is for those girls to get some games in on that floor because the tournament will be played at DHS>
  21. Just thought we'd see all the West TN tourney action going on this week. I know the Lions club tourney in Martin is rolling along with the Regional Hospital Tourney in D'burg. some updates- I know the host schools of the tourneys, Westview over in Martin and Dyersburg at their tourney- won opening round games, along with Briarcrest and Brighton. Obion Central boys won both their games at the Huntingdon Point Guard classic as they defeated the host school Huntingdon by 7 on Monday and knocked off Clarksburg last evening. They travel to Selmer for the McNairy tourney today where they play Adamsville.
  22. yeah- showed a few wrinkles yesterday that will more than likely won't be seen today. Hard to scout much on yesterday with such a weak opponent in Gosnell, OC played Lake co. in Jamboree action so both teams are familiar with each other- Probably be the best 1A team the Lady Rebs will see this season. I'm looking forward to a good game if both teams show up and play the type of game that they are capable of. getcha Popcorn ready!! they have those nice BIG BAGS at the DHS Gym..
  23. OC lady Rebels will play Gosnell,Arkansas at 4pm today in the Regional Hospital Christmas Tourney at D'burg . A win for the Lady Rebs and they more than likely take on Lake Co. at 4pm on Wednesday as the Lady Falcons play Ripley to open up the tourney at 10AM this morning. In the other bracket it'll be host school Dyersburg, also Brighton, Poplar Bluff,MO.etc. a 3 Day event that will wrap up on Thursday evening.
  24. Just an update- the Obion Central/DHS girls game this evening at 6pm can be heard on 97.3 FM- it's the station that carries Dyersburg High School sports. For those of you who wanted to listen.
