I thought Shawn Jones was Coaching Blackman? Where did he go?

Just a question. Does Kelly Felix wrestle for UTC?

It's nice to reflect back and analyze this past season and the wrestlers accomplishments, but now those wrestlers who had their sights set on the elusive title of State Champ and still have next year, they need to begin working on their mental, physical strength and their wrestling position. If I took anything away from the D1 finals it would be that I didn't see one good head snap and go behind. The BW 112 pounder had the opportunity several times. I think some of the matches could have gone the other way as well. To much blocking out with no movement, snap downs or reshots. Just a thought and a place to start.

I've been out of the loop for a few years now, but it was great to see Region 5 stronger and more balanced. I was disappointed not to see any Rockets there. Hopefully in the near future.

What has happened to Brandon Wright and Kelly Felix. Why haven't I seen them in the line up?

We had a push up pledge which brought in up to 400.00 for some kids and less for others. Overall around 2500.00 and the kids did the work. I just printed up Pledge Forms and kept track of the money. When I was in High School the Team raked leaves at so much per bag, but we are pretty rural here so it wasn't convenient. I also had a Hall of Fame induction ceremony and raised awareness, excitement and money all at the same time.

I'm a little removed, so forgive me for asking, but is Forrest High School still in Region 5? Any contenders for placing?

Sorry, didn't mean to single out your screen name. I'm just commenting on where this thread is going and you had the last comment. What I am saying is give Blackman the credit. FR is a strong program and has a strong team. We don't need to debate if it is stronger than a year before or if D2 is over rated. This thread takes away from Blackman's victory. Didn't mean to sound mad.

OMG! I have sat back and read CoachT all season and commented very little but this post is demeaning and an embarressment. It minimizes the gains Blackman has made to compete with an outstanding squad like Father Ryan, but it is not just the squad it is the program. Can the program last and produce the same level of results year in and year out? Father Ryan does and they are a class act. Also, the D1 teams listed above have outstanding programs and history. They have a legacy that they build on. Do not come on a post and talk trash about a program that has been around for 50 years. If you want to debate D1 and D2 do it on a different post. Have some sportsmanship!

Ok, I never get involved in these ###### for tat posts and I don't have a dog in the fight anymore, but I have to ask, bottom line. What did the wrestler weigh in at? If it was less than 119 lbs he would not be able to go 130 lbs. I think that was the point.

I didn't know if it had changed or not. I guess I'm showing my age. Don Stevens from Southern Illinois U, which is a Division 2 school, was a D1 all american 2 years in a row in my weight class.

If I'm correct a D2 national champ qualifies for the NCAA tournament. Therefore, if none of these D2 champions did not make it as a D1 all american then they would fall down the list. Just a thought.

The schools also have to be in the same county

You can check with the TSSAA website www.tssaa.org, but I believe that your present school must not have a program for 3 years and the wrestling program's school must be the same campus ie. 6-12 or 9-12.

Steve Hormada is the guy to watch. I was really impressed with his workout. His success completely depends on what's in his head.

How about naming some names for us to watch. What did they do over the summer? Is region 5 going to be competitive with the other regions in the state this year?

They need to have a sub state divided into 4 to 6 tournaments and advance the top 3 or 4 places depending on the size they want State to be. Indiana has a 16 man bracket for state. It is ran on Friday night and Saturday. The State tournament Tenn runs today costs the schools and parents to much money and it is physically taxing on the athletes.

I grew up in Indiana and Wrestled at Evansville Harrison and Purdue University so I have a little insight and I think this statement is true. Mater Dei is a power house. They have won Their Sectional and Regional every year for the last 25 years. The have won Semi State nearly every year and have won state nearly every years since starting the duals. You have teams like Lawerance North, Hammond and Delta up North and on a whole Indiana is tough, but there is no doubt Tennessee has some young studs. The solution is to recruit the kids young and we have to have the programs there for them. There is also a lack of stability. As mentioned previously programs are dying at some of the schools and then restarting from scratch. The administration has to be dedicated to the sport and the clubs have to be dedicated to the sport. Wrestling has to get into the very fiber of the individual family so you have to have something for the parents. It changes the way Mom grocery shops and Dad's work schedule. It touches everyone unlike some sports. I believe wrestling is the most elite of sports but to do it right are we willing to make the sacrifice of sweat and time. Do it without expectation of glory or praise but for the love of the sport. Layout a 5, 10, 15 and 20 year plan of action. Support the USWF or USA wrestling clubs. Recruit the bodies and do it. Invest in the kids! They are looking for a family. Make them part of the wrestling family.

I for one am very much against COED wrestling. I've coached boys and girls together and it should never happen!!!! I'm with animal on this issue. It's not an issue of whether girls can compete with boys, but an issue of mother nature. Girls wrestle Girls and Boys wrestle Boys!!! Coaches have enough issues to deal with.

Did the older proctor graduate? I thought he was a Senior this year.

Any brackets or results anywhere? If Hamm had anything to do with the tourney I know there has to be something posted somewhere?
