  1. The truth of the matter is that USJ has fielded their weakest teams in 15 years over the last 3 years. It seems like they are beginning to get back to playing the quality of football that they did for several years. You don`t make it to the Clinic Bowl 3 times in 1A by not being good. You weren`t the only one who thought the same thing though. I read many posts back when USJ moved up to 2A about how they`ll find out how "real" football is played. In reality USJ would have been very successful in this region many years. I`m, not saying they would have dominated like they did in 1A, but they would have been competing for region championships. I think a lot of the naysayers probably felt redeemed in their predictions based on the results over the last 3 years, but like I stated before those were probably the 3 worst teams USJ has put on the field in the last 15 years. It is very nice to see though that you had the integrity to get on here and say you were wrong. There are MANY still on here who were saying the same thing a few years ago who sit silent today.
  2. How long was the game winning FG?
  3. Pretty good assessment there. Neither teams offense looked very good. JCM`s was non-existent. Brighton scored on two long plays and had 2 TD`s gifted to them on JCM turnovers deep in JCM territory. I know Brighton is now 7-1, but no way did they look like a 7-1 team. Other than Henry County I`m starting to think that Region 7 4A is pretty weak this year. I got to meet the QB from Brighton who is hurt. Seems like a really nice kid. One of the his coaches spoke very highly of him as a person and a player.
  4. Surely the only team to score on Henry County this year before half time will win this one. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  5. Good question. As a moderator I try to perceive what the poster`s intent is. For example if someone says "I thought we should have run the ball more in the second half" or "We should have blitzed more to put more pressure on the QB" then you are talking about aspects of the game which are directly related to coaching decisions but still keeping it a civil conversation about the game. On the other hand if people want to get on here and all they have to say is "Our coach stinks and he should be fired immediately and take the whole staff with him" , then I think the purpose of the post was made merely to bash the coach. It`s fine for a poster to think a coach should be fired, but I don`t think this should be the venue to campaign for it. Take it up with your local powers that be who actually have control over hiring and firing. I think those type posts are personal attacks and don`t serve any positive purpose. All that being said, sometimes an unfortunate event happens that is publicly known and well reported in newspapers that does not reflect well on an individual coach. For example, I remember a few years ago there was a coach that threw something during halftime in the locker room and hit a player in the head causing an injury that required medical attention and also caused the player to miss the rest of the game. That incident was well documented in the papers and was in my mind worthy of some discussion. Another example would be Tim Thompson`s escapades at Melrose a few years back. My best advice is don`t come across as vindictive. Learn how to post with some tactfulness. You don`t necessarily have to agree with what a coach does, but don`t be ugly about it. These are just my opinions and not necessarily what Coacht or other moderators may go by. Hope it helps answer your question though. VG
  6. Hush nooney. I`m busy giving Metfan a hug. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  7. Please define what you mean by adding Christianity to your classroom.
  8. That is simply ignorant. /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
  9. To TheGraceChristianAcademy...This is a Harriman/Oneida thread. Please take your discussion of Grace to a proper thread. Thanks. VG
  10. When respect is earned??? What are you talking about? There are very few teams that have had the success as USJ over the last 15 years. I first gained my respect for Milan 15 years ago when many Milan fans showed up early to cheer on USJ at the state championship in Nashville in 1993. Milan played in the night game that day, but for them to attend the USJ game meant they had to leave a few hours earlier on that Friday to cheer on a fellow West TN team. I`m sure the USJ fans really appreciated the purple clad folks being there with their support. Since then both teams have returned twice to the state championship. If you follow high school football, I have a very hard time understanding why you`d make a comment that USJ has a long way to go in the respect department. They have been one of the most successful programs around in the last 15 years.
  11. This confuses me more. GC was definitely using their facilities DURING the school day for "pick up" games. The coach was there observing but not coaching. Can the fact that this is a class supersede the rule?
  12. Heard on the radio that USJ started several freshmen. Is this true?
  13. Total myth. The education in Madison County schools is just as good as the private education here.
  14. Question...would it be within rules if the class was made up of just basketball players or could that just be coincidence? If there were more than just basketball players in the class, but say on Tuesdays and Thursdays there were girls in the class who used those days for conditioning by running outside and all those girls happened to be basketball players would it be a violation?
  15. Thanks. Apology accepted. Feel free to start a new thread if you want to talk about the comparisons of Henry County and Milan. Let`s just try and follow Coacht`s rules of staying on topic. It`s not that I don`t feel the matter is worthy of discussion but more so that coacht has asked that we all try to stay on topic in each thread.
  16. Is this the same Haywood team that had no offense against JCM?
  17. Haywood still seems to be one dimensional. Stack the box and stop the run. Haywood doesn`t like to throw the ball. I`d make them beat you through the air.
  18. Drop the HC talk on this thread. I don`t want to have to start deleting posts or much worse close the thread. Keep it on topic please. Thanks.
  19. Congrats go out to Coach Hodum and his staff and the players of TCA.
  20. monster man...let me give you the opportunity to tell everyone when these private schools got their "unfair advantage" playing in 1A. What year did that start? Have fun with that one.
  21. Hey Old Timer...Could you please explain from what you have heard were the main reason(s) USJ decided to move to Div. II? I don`t really understand it. I`m sure football had a lot to do with it, but IMO USJ can compete where they are now in Div. I. Contrary to what many others in their region think (that USJ hasn`t fared well in 2A because they are playing better competition) I know that the truth of the matter is that the year USJ moved to 2A marked the beginning of a dry spell athlete wise at the school. In most years before that USJ would have competed very well in their 2A region and even won a region championship or two because they were just that good.
  22. Well I started this thread because I wanted to know when basketball practice started. I observed Gibson County girls scrimmaging in practice uniforms under the observation of their coach. It looked like a practice to me but it seemed way too early from my knowledge. I`ve learned that these are called "pick-up" games and are allowed by rules as long as the coach is just observing which in this case I can state that the few minutes I observed the coach was kicked back in the bleachers and not saying a word to his team. So by all accounts everything was perfectly legal at Gibson County. However. that being said I can certainly see how easily it could be to break the rules if a coach decided to offer playing tips during these sessions and it would be very difficult for anyone to monitor especially if the "pick up" game was occurring during the first block of school. I have no reason to contact the TSSAA because I saw no rule being broken, however, I certainly would have reported them if they were doing something wrong. And not because I have some vendetta against Gibson County, but because no one should be allowed to cheat. If this thread has done anything, it has shown that GC is abiding by the rules. Good news if you ask me. Now with that, I`m gonna ask another question related to this subject. Basketball coaches can`t be coaching during this period, but it is my understanding that baseball coaches can instruct, pitchers and hitters during the off season. Can someone verify that? I find it ironic that the rules are very strict on some sports such as basketball and more lax with others such as baseball.
  23. My post wasn`t specific about GC. I was talking in general terms about any team and what constitutes a "PICK UP" game. Like I said in my post that I`ve always thought of a pick up game as being impromptu. It`s just hard for me to call it a pick up game when the coach tells them they are gonna scrimmage and they have a specified time in which to do it.
