  1. Congratulations to Clarkrange for a great season, 30 - 0* is an incredible accomplishment*, in this day and age its very hard to do. You would almost have to have great players from other teams move into your area just so you could put together such a team...oh thats what you did.......What about Marxhall County over in AA, they did it with players from their own neighborhood and played Top Ten AAA teams during the season....now thats something Not saying the girls did not come out and practice and play hard every night, Really just a super AAU team, everyone would be a great coach if they could just pick their players off other teams This one is like Barry Bonds...gets an asterik.* I know its mean, but got a call it as I see it.....
  2. Fra (the team)leaves for Div 2, it has nothing to do with greener pastures. IT WAS A JOKE...u know a LOL,, or for you english folks "an" lol ? 9AA has year after year placed teams in the final 8/4 of the state.... For those commenting on Chris Hart, get a life...this guy is a great coach. I can give you proof, line up against his team of young players and get beat. If you think they are good this year wait until next, when this young team gets a little older. Not only is Hart a great coach, he is a prime example of class on the court and off. A great example for the young women who get the privlidge of learning under him. If my freshman daughter wanted to play over at FRA.......she would have my blessings and she would be better for it. what more could you ask?
  3. District 9 will provide the runner up team that will travel to the sub-state. Marshall county is one of the top teams in the state.... AA or AAA. They have proven this with their win against Mt. Juliet AAA. Although 9aa has some great tallent.. Having to play against the past state champ, and this year Marshall will play for the championship,( I think they will repeat, but there is a great upperman team out there, so all bets are off, you will find 9aa getting to the state through the #2 seed.) 9aa wont be closer than 20 with marshall. I think 9aa will get to the state, but it will be over the next couple of years that they dominate the region, there is a lot of great young tallent out there. Do not forget David Lipscomb in your discussion, you might beat up on them this season, but they have a wealth of tallent and height in the 7th and 8th grade levels. Of course FRA leaves for better competition..... lol... I mean greener pastures!
  4. It is wrong to place the blame for this situation, that may or may not arise, on a disgruntled player. If it turns out to be true, would not all of the players, who have been in the program since middle school and are currently on the team be the first to feel cheated? They have the real first claim. Those who have played against the team will get a forfit win in the event cheating took place. They will be vindicated....but what about the hard work and sweat of the girls who have given 5 or 6 years to a program and now are not playing and eventually will forfit all of their games. The players who are not seniors will have some type of penalty and this could effect their future years of basketball at the school. Disgruntled? Darn right...and if this type stuff is going on at your school you should report it. Who wants to win if you have to cheat to do it. If the allegations prove true, the coach should be disbarred from TSSAA comp, and the administratiors fired.
  5. This makes independance undefeated for 2009! way to go ladies,,,, congratulations Miriska.......turning out to be a great new year Mrs....lol
  6. CPA hits buzzer beater and wins 25-22. First of at least 6 for lipscomb
  7. lol you only missed it by a couple 9aa fan. is is true that Kayla Eakes leads 9aa in scoring? pretty good for a 7th place team. Cpa wins in a buzzer beater at Lipscomb 25-22 FRA wins a close one with MLK 28-22
  8. Lets get something going here. This is in the girls game where hops are not as usual. HS girls player catches the ball with feet parallel. Starts drive with right foot power dribble to basket. Jump Stops, than she she jumps again (hops) and lands on both feet before shooting the ball. Isn't this the easiest walk call in the game? I saw a girl at Parl Cohn or East Lit do this several times a game last year and now I see a player from Oakland HS doing the same thing. (no call) Am I missing something here? Is this where the game is going or is this poor officiating
  9. Someone with better email than me tell Coacht that Ezell Harding Girls did not play Lavergne in the Bridgestone classic Wednesday November 25th. coacht has the schedule wrong. Lavergne actually played Bartlett and Ezell had the day off. The final score is accurate with Lavergne beating Bartlett. Thanks in advance to who ever gets the message through /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  10. Hope all those playing will keep us updated with how the teams looked and possibly the scores!
  11. The intention of my post was to indicate that the problem in Lebanon was the Administration. Period. The wilson county school board does not hire the coaches at Lebanon. I believe its up to the High School principle. I never stated that fox would think she would be the team. I simply stated that fox is the next great player to either go to lebanon or leave lebanon. What would be my threat? I am very aware of the situation at lebanon high school regarding athletics. I do not have a girl on the team there. There is no I in team, well there is an I in win and they cant seem to find that at lebanon. You must have a standout player to win at the state level. I have certainly worked around great high school women basketball players and the standouts that would have gone to lebanon have opted to go elsewhere. Could lebanon get to the next level with this young lady. Certainly, but it does require everyone playing together. I thought fans of the "Blue Devils" would embrace a rising star. With every program to which I have had some affiliation, we always had a superstar. Did this make the other girls less important. Of course not, superstar would just get league mvp, the other players got all district and such. I have no hunt in any of the wilson county womens basketball programs, The programs that I have been involved in have all won, we would love to have a player like fox come to our program, we would win it together, and probably give her the last shot.
  12. If you want your child to be a Doctor, you could go to Meharry Medical College in Nashville. What if the opportunity presented itself that allowed you to switch to Vanderbilt. Still gonna just be a doctor. I dont know how many times coaches from the private schools I know have been accused of recruting. I think that there is a bigger move on for parents wanting their children to be a champion at a school known for champions. Along the same lines why do parents want their children in the Magnet schools. The perception that this is the better opportunity, to prepare a child for college, weather it be academics or athletics can be the main goal. I can assure you that some of the people mentioned on the 7a thread, don't need to move. There is no financial gain for them, just the perception that their daughter will be better off somewhere other than where they are now. As for community pride...well family is a commitment that comes from both sides. Its easy to guilt people into doing things for you because their your family, (community). But it is a double edge sword, is their a commitment from the school program to make it the best?. The easy decision for players looking to get scholarship offers is to follow a path where players before them have gone on to get scholarships in their sport of choice. Nothing wrong with that. A ball player looking to get a shot at the NFL has a better chance going to Tennessee over other colleges because of Tennessee's track record of turning out NFL players.
  13. My comments were ment only as a joke. I think GC will be tough to beat. Marshall lost three starters, point, 2 and 3. They will find it hard to replace these scorers. The game should be tougher for March. I think GC has a great chance to win the championship. Just wanted to rub a little salt in an open wound.
  14. AA- remember Marshall...... okay just rubbing it in a bit...dont get mad
  15. Lebanon fans have nothing if not patience, they have suffered through a long list of coaches who have little or no experience coaching the sport they are leading. Lebanon has not retained their good coaches and therefore their players have gone elsewhere to play. See Wilson Central, Friendship, and others. There soccer program has had a new coach each of the last two season, the first being qualified enough by Teaching and speaking spanish, he had no soccer experience, this seasons coach played in high school, but had to take the coaching position to get a job at an off campus school. What about a volleyball team that reaches state, with a coach that had no experience coaching volleyball. I will give them props in their retention of their softball and track/cross country coaches, these are two fine coaches who could go anywhere. I do not know of this womens basketball coach or her ability to bring back the womens basketball program at Lebanon. I will say that the problem at Lebanon High School is not any of the students or coaches, it is the administration and their lack of support, and attention to the positive aspects that the sports bring to the city. It will be interesting to see what happens next season, (09-10) in the girls basketball program. There is another bright star on the horizon for lebanon, no its not another hassell (who both rolled out to Wilson Central), its a young baller who's last name is Fox, going in to the 8th grade this season, she is a straight up player, she is also the grandaughter of the Lebanon Mayor Don Fox. Will she defect to Frendship or will the Mayor help get things in order at Lebanon. If you are going to build a program it takes the support of the Administration, this could be the toughest problem the coach at Lebaon will have to face. (other than football is #1, but they really dont win either)
  16. Miriska was named all freshman NAIA after her freshman season at Trevecca. When "Coach" Van Atta became Trevecca's head coach, her sophomore season, he promptly benched her for not signing with Him before he was fired from UT Martin, I think he told her that archie was better...great girl but look at the stats. We advised her to leave and go play for Kentucky, but she loved her school and her friends so she stayed. She had to play behind players he brought in and still made all confrence tournament and Naia, and eventually Hon mention all-american twice despite the Van Atta's. This is not a relationship where he is her mentor in anyway. This will be Van Atta's first season with players he recruited and I think he will fair just like he did at UT Martin and Mt, Juliet boys. (terrible) Miriska Reed has been sucessful despite her college coach. She will be successful with Independence and everything else she touches. Best of luck to you all
  17. Little bird says Miriska Reed (google her) Trevecca Womens Basketball Star 2 Time NAIA Honorable metion All-American Led team to NAIA finals @last years National Championships (finsihed runner up) TSSAA Miss Basketball finalist Won the TSSAA State Championship @ Ezell Harding Runner up State Championships Jersey hangs from the rafters at Ezell #23 #2 leading scorer in the history of Ezell Harding, just handed the ball over to Leah Mcalister this past year. She has been coaching at Pat Summit's basketball camps for the past few years. (summit is some coach from the eastern part of the state) Coached at HoopTown AAu High School Camps through out nashville Comes from a basketball family, father former college player and high school coach, current AAU coach, runs summer basketball camp in Nashville area. I know this Coach well, she is a great player, who will make the transition from playing to coaching with not much of a problem. She understands and is a student of the game and has always been a leader. She can teach the players how to play. She has the respect of a number of coaches in the successful programs in Nashville, I think I had about 11 coaches call me to tell me the news, everyone excited for her and wanting to schedule her these first two years, because after two years you wont want to schedule her team. Great choice and good luck to Independance. If the fans were looking for someone to build thier team, from the ground up, they got a great choice. Miriska brings to the table Knowledge of the game, and the path to high school success and then college success. The most remarkable thing about Miriska is that even with all of her success, she is one of the best young, brightest people you will ever meet and although she has the drive of a champion, she has a heart of gold and will be fair and honest with the players. Great hire, lets hope the fans rally around their new coach.
  18. Dan Carter was named the Head Coach on Thursday at Ezell. Joey Spann does not have an AAU program, nor does Dan Carter. Goodpastures cupboard is not bare. Ezell Harding will return 2 all-District players. Neither coach has had any influence on an AAU team that I have been a part of. Both are great men and great coaches. Good luck lady tornado players who are spending this week trying to impress your new high school coaches. Box out and chicken wing in... hope to see you in the gyms this fall and winter. P.S. got to see Marshall county play today....they look tough again..... Sharpshooter :0)
  19. Such cry baby stuff. Is this the same district that had a post that said their tournament was the states final four. That if you put all of their teams in the state they would emerge. Heck your district could not get past Marshall. Marshall blew out the unbeatable Gibson County. Of course I am sure that the ref's had something to do with that as well, it was only a thirty point win. Marshall must have fould 15 times and the refs didnt call anything. Milan got lucky that Marshall shot 31% for the 1st half and Milan shot 61 %. The only thing that made this close was that Marshall did not play their best game. What the folks from district 13AA needed was a dose of Humility....Marshall served it up with a lil rear end whupin attached. Dont tell the kids they lost to a better team. tell them they got cheated, you guys have been blowing smoke all year. Marshall county put out the fire. Good luck next year. P.S. the teams from Middle Tennessee love it when you have your teams believing that there is no competition anywhere but in west tennessee, cause they got run over by the Marshall Express this weekend. You guys did get a call...a wake up call...E.T. said go home!
  20. It is time for another upper cumberland girl to get recognition for Ms. Basketball 2009 that would be Monterey's Molly Heady. Has already been tearing up her league and now will take control as a Juniior. Dont know if she can make watertown win, but when has playing for a winning team had anything to do with Ms. Basketball. Molly Heady.
  21. Sorry to jump your thread auntkim, Thanks Pageman for the reports all season from your area. As always you report fairly what happened in a game and I enjoy reading your intellegent posts. Sharpshooter.
  22. Okay so its been a great season of Girls basketball. I have been called everything in the book for saying that the West teams and the upper cumberland teams were not the best teams in the state. Sometimes its best not to make your players believe that there is no competition out there. I think that G. C. and Milan both found out that Marshall County's eariler loss was as I stated a Hic up. Since day one I proclaimed that the State Championships had to go through Marshall County. Thanks tigeretts for proving me correct again. I want to thank all the people who interacted on this site over the past few months with me regarding AA girls basketball. It has been a great season and some of you should be comedians. Everyone get on to their next sport and we will bust your chops in november. I want to thank the Marshall County fans for being so much fun when I was watching them play out on the road. Congratulations to the seniors at Marshall County and good luck to the girls that return they have a lot to live up to. Sharpshooter : 0 )
