  1. You all from Celina and some of you from JC have no idea what it is like to have a winning boys program....you have no idea what it takes....and no, it won't be like this in two years....these sophomores are gonna be very good as seniors after getting a lot of playing time for two years...these freshman will maybe start getting time in games next year....and this group of 7th graders is gonna be good even when they get to high school in two years at freshman....this Hughes kid, 6'3 center, is a man child in 7th grade....wait til he gets to high school, all these 7a folks will be eating their words once again.
  2. did you go to the game against Jackson Co. the other night? Because they gave your boys everything they could handle, and they were lucky to get out of their with a win, whenever that ref didn't call that tackle foul at half court on Ben Aaron....Everyone in the gym knew that was a foul....but the refs had their whistles in their pockets. But then again, PC could have won it with those two free throws with 20 secs or so.
  3. Bibb is an excellent coach, he just needs to get his team put back together. Everyone wondered about this team before Christmas tournaments last year, and that when they really started to turn things around. Maybe these early lickin's will help them in the long run. Clay Co. had a stellar defense on the other night, they deserve a lot of credit. Wasn't Case one of the officials in that La @ PC game? I could have not even went to that game and told you PC wasn't going to walk out of the gym with a win, especially with no TC and John Sells out. I agree with 7afan, White Co. is the most athletic team they've played. Dunn is the most athletic player we've played against, but I'll take Jacob over him any night.....even on the bad ones. That may be a little bias by me.
  4. Yeah devil, I think PC will be pretty good this year....not that I was bashing any of the former coachs in my previous post. Allison did an excellent job while she was at PC, and after I made that post I saw that it seemed like I might have been bashing her....not at all what I was saying. She was a good coach. I was simply stating that I know Brent's coaching stategy and he fits this team really well. I think Allison is on the coaching staff at Cookeville, I know she's teaching there. I still think this district is between jackson co and clarkrange.
  5. Well, give me someone out of 7a and i'll take my chances. Jackson Co. got the only piece they needed last year, a dominant post player, and that team went to the semi-finals. Clarkrange looks to be dominanting as well. But there may be one surprise this year in 7a.....Pickett Co. same players, but they've added a big time coach in Brent Smith. Its never been the lack of players in PC the past few years, it was getting a coach who coud handle all the attitudes and out coach the other team, Smith can do that. He took PC boys baskettball program to the state twice and won a championship himself as a player.
  6. well I don't know anything about 8a this year, but looks like Pickett Co. should be the top team in 7a this year. They return all but one starter (albeit one of their best) but they still have jacob and t.c. This year depends mainly on how t.c. stays out of foul trouble this year. Their are no other big guys on this team. Clay Co. looks to be contending with Jackson Co. for 2nd. Clay Co. returns their main players, plus with the closing of Hermitage Springs School, they add the top scorer in 7a, Birdwell. Jackson Co. lost alot of their starters, but they were a deep team last year with alot of jrs. Don't know alot about the rest of the district, Clarkrange and Monterey look to battle for the fourth spot.
  7. Well Pickett has a couple of arms, but I don't think any of them are as good as roddy. Travis Matthews has been established as their number 2 starter and he is good in his own right, if he keeps his head. After that you've got Jeremiah Copeland, and how good he pitches depends on what day you catch him on. One day he can have electric stuff and great control, the next he complains that his arm hurts (when it really doesn't) just so he doesn't have to throw anymore. After that its Jacob Wright and James Gibson. Haven't seen James pitch that much, and he was "ok" when I did see him pitch. Jacob is a different story, the kid throws incredibly slow, but its so slow that its hard to put anything behind it because you have to generate all the power. His ball moves alot and he pretty good at locating. One game me and one of the assitant coach's where clocking him and he was throwing some where in the 35- 45 range. Pickett I think has the horses to win the district this year, but with their attitudes changing everyday like I've been seeing lately, I'm not sure they will. Either way it is gonna be Pickett and Monterey as the 1 and 2 seeds, I'm not sure which one is gonna be which going into district. I think Pickett can split but I'm not sure they can go up to Monterey and win. Depending on the output of the games, I think that Roddy is definately in the consideration for Pitcher of the year, I don't have his stats infront of me, but he has looked pretty impressive when I've seen him. I figure Horton will get player of the year, cause I saw somewhere that he has 10 or more homers. As for other Pickett players, I think if they get second place they get atleast 4 players... I think along with Roddy that Pickett County's other all-district players should be Travis Matthews, Jeremiah Copeland, and Jacob Wright. Maybe James Gibson if they get another player. I think this team is loaded with tallent, its just a matter of killing the attitudes and them to start playing to their potiential. I think they have maybe been told by so many people in Pickett Co. that they are "so" good, and they have inflamed heads. They need to realize that they haven't won anything yet. 3 or 4 of these kids were on the team that I was on back in 04 that finished second in the district by beating monterey. They need to remember how hard it was to win that game and apply that to every game they play Monterey the rest of the season. One thing you can always say about Loop is that he'll never quit until the last out is recorded. I think that both Monterey and Pickett Co. are both locked into no worse than the 2 seed, and to be honest I don't see either getting beat in the tournament except to whichever loses to the other but upsets are always possible. It should be a great tournament and I can't wait to watch it. Good luck to both teams.
  8. Hawg-I, I've heard that monterey has three pretty good pitchers this year, one guy who used to play their said that it maybe the best staff looper has ever had, did you see that when you played them? 7A has to be up in the air from the lack of jackson, celina, monterey, and pickett co. players and fans response to this topic.
  9. Pickett Co. beat Jackson co. again last night 10-2, sweeping jackson co. for the regular season? Can pickett hang with monterey or are they gonna have to settle for 2nd place? Is jackson co. the third best team in the district or will clay or rbs challenge them as well?
  10. I hear ya on that muffin, I can't get Pickett co. to get their schedule posted on here either.

    District 7A

I've only seen Pickett and Jackson co. play this year, and that was tonight at jackson co. with pc winning 7-5. so I figure monterey is picked to win it. I also heard they have some really good pitching. How is everyone else gonna match up? Is it between these three teams for the district? Swason and muffin I know you've got the red boiling sources, how are they looking this year?
  12. Anyone got a schedule of their games? District? Region?
  13. It'll be the winner of the Humboldt/Temple game, with Culleoka having an outside chance at it.
  14. It might have hit glass after he slapped it. I sat there with my 20 20 vision and saw it. No goal tending.
  15. Oh I'll say alot, don't expect me to just set down and be quiet. Listen CSAS did win tonight, congrats to them. They shot well in the first half, but they aren't a great team. This team is not good enough to win state. I didn't see a dominant CSAS team, I saw a pickett co. team that beat theirselves. I have to question what in the world that ref was thinking on the call where he called goal tending? The ball had barely left the guys hands, bad call changed pickett's game plan the last min and a half of the game. I think TSSAA needs to clean out all refs in the state, we've had all of these guys before and they haven't been good either time.
  16. We've played triple A schools on the road. White Co. who is still in the sub state, Shelbyville Central who wasn't bad, now we didn't win those games, and they weren't really even close, but we have 200 students, they have over a thousand, but after those games is when pickett co. started clicking. We always here this stuff about us "never seen this" kinda stuff before. Well we had never seen anything like friendship before, beat 'em. We'd never seen anything like temple before, beat 'em. We'd never seen anything like CSAS before, well we'll see in about 2 1/2 hours. District 7a is tougher than you think, plus they've played all kinda competion this year, that has them ready for this game. A gym is a gym? Seems like I've heard that some nine times before. Everyone from chattanooga always picks the chattanooga teams, and they always fall flat on their face. But atleast your confiedent, makes it more fun to get on here after the game. Enjoy the culture shock, you've never, and I mean never seen anything like pickett co.
  17. I don't have a problem with the losing three times, most of the time teams that end up winning state don't lose three times anyway. But it nice that some teams can because its fun to watch upsets. Humboldt beating Union City and Lake Co. getting beat by Peabody, those were nice upsets. It gives everyone a chance, even if they do have a bad night. I like region tournament the way it is. Listen they tried to change substate once and came up with the sectionals at central locations and everyone hated it and complained and they went back to the old format, just left the sectional name on it. I don't like the no classification style like Kentucky has, there is no way that a team of under 300 students could compete with AAA school with over a thousand students. Your AAA and D2 schools would win every year. Lets leave the classifications to give the small schools a chance. Pickett co., Clarkrange (girls), teams like this would go from being power house single A teams, to just another school. I know that in just across the boarder in Clinton Co. KY they're one of the better teams our boys played this year. But they have little chance to win state because they won't be able to compete with those huge schools are louisville and lexington. I think its a good format, I just think that the stretchin out of the tournaments this year and having guys and girls games on different nights is crazy.
  18. icecold, you still gonna give us your pick today? I talked to someone who had been watching a couple of game tapes of CSAS. He said that he didn't see to many mismatches for Pickett co. Now he didn't say we would have a blow out on our hand or anything, but he said he thought we should win. I just hope for an atmosphere like the girls game I went and watched last night (Livingston Acad. and McMinn Central). If its anything like that, should be the best game. I hope alot of the upper cumberland comes out to watch, espcially since Pickett co. is the only team playing in the area.
  19. In region 4A I didn't think the format was too bad. I happen to like the Tennessee format of being able to lose up to three times. I mean 75% of the time if a team is good enough to win state, they aren't going to lose once, if any. I think the Kentucky style is completely crazy with only having one class. I'm not sure how Indiana's format is. TSSAA is definately killing students with ticket prices, not only are prices extremely high, if your school as a great girls and boys program you get punished double. I think the TSSAA should come up with a district tournament pass and a region tournament pass, that way if your fortunate enough to have two programs that are good, or you just like watching your local district and region teams, you wouldn't have to spend close to a hundred dollars to watch all those games. I don't know like maybe knock 4 or 5 dollars off the total price for the whole tournament, that way people would see it worth buying one. It'll never happen, but its a thought.
  20. Ah, I wouldn't say that, jacob is pretty good at breaking up the press.
  21. We are cocky because we have never saw our team lose at home during the substate, their have been great teams come in here and walked out with a loss. The boys that are playing for us are cocky as well to an extent, but they have humility, they know if they don't play well that they will be the first team every to lose a substate game at home. It will be a good game. Listen, I promise....when/ if we get knocked off the mountain top, then we'll stop being so cocky.
  22. Humboldt Pickett Co. Temple Culleoka
  23. Well last night I thought Brett Roddy should get it, and then I looked at the herald-citizen today. Jacob only had 5 pts against jackson co. then 20 against friendship and there is no doubt that he is the heart and soul of the team, but he didn't play particulary great in the first round or the semi's scoring wise. I don't exactly know T.C.'s stats from the game against westmoreland but i'm sure he was in double digits. But look at his stats in the next two games, Against Jackson co. 9 pts, 14 rebounds; against Friendship 18 pts, 11 rebounds. Looks deserving of the MVP to me.
  24. Ummm.....No, they played in the 2005 substate game against Grace, so you've already proven your lack of knowledge on that. 10,22, and 34 are the best players, but you leave 11 open he hits it 9 out of 10 times. and 3 isn't the best shooter or our best scorer, but he's the one who is usually, night in and night out he's guarding your best guard. Pickett co. never under estimates anyone, thats why they usually win. They'll be prepared. What makes you think that we think we are just gonna role over everyone? No, we don't think that...I give CSAS their credit, they've made it this far and they are probably a really good team, and it won't be easy for Pickett co. Now with that said, I think Pickett is gonna win, just because it doesn't happen. There is a reason that we are 9-0 in substate games, it isn't because teams don't come ready to play, its because PC has been an impossible to beat at home. They only lost two games at home this year. It could happen though, I guess streaks have to come to an end somewhere, I just don't see it happening this year, and it has nothing to do with CSAS, I think its because the bobcats won't let themselves be the first team to lose a game at home.
