  1. It seems that referees are becoming more and more aware of the advantage call in soccer and are using it more frequently. I am all for the advantage call and think it adds a lot to the flow of play. However, there are certain places on the field that I think the advantage call should not be used. For instance, if there is a foul in the middle third of the field and the player is able to maintain control and continue an attack, by all means advantage should be granted. The place that the advantage call should be used sparingly is in the defensive third. Obviously there are numerous senarios in which a team could gain an advantage by not calling a foul while transitioning out of the defensive third. However, more often that not this is an area where there is usually a lot of pressure on defenders to clear the ball and calling the foul would better serve the team in possession. The beef I have with advantage comes while the opposing team is attacking. Scenario: If our team were to committ a foul on the opposing team (in our defensive third - 25 yeards out in front of our goal), the referee allows play to continue, then the player makes a bad decision, takes an errant shot (bad play was not a result of the initial foul), or we win the ball and then the referee calls the play back and permits the opposing team to take a free kick. In my opinion, advantage was given by allowing the play to continue. If a team/player does not take "advantage" of the opportunity given by an advantage call then the only way a referee will not bring the play back is if the player actually scores. The mindset of some referees changes to "well, if the attackers didn't score then we'll give 'em another chance". My argument is that in the attacking third advantage should be used sparingly. If play is allowed to continue then let the play stand good or bad and don't give second chances after the advantage of continuation is given. Thoughts?
  2. James Holt - Riverdale Think he has signed with ETSU.
  3. 24 to 840. 840 to Franklin. Go to the end of 840 and you can see the high school from 840. Literally the end of 840.
  4. I will find out if siegelsoccer17 is a Siegel player and address this situation. My apologies for the immature, derogatory remarks of siegelsoccer17. Some don't realize that when you make statements in an open forum while using siegel soccer as your tag your statements can be taken to reflect the opinions of the whole program. In this instance, siegelsoccer17's comments do not reflect the attitudes of the Siegel Soccer program. Jasper is an outstanding player. I should and will check these boards more often. Coach Shelton
  5. Riverdale at Tullahoma on Thursday...did they play, results?
  6. Don't sweat it. You guys should relish (I hate that word, can't believe I just used it) the idea of being an unknown. People will find out more than they want to know come Independence Tournament. My prediction is you end up 14-3 (Plus or minus a game or two for tournament semis and finals) for the regular season. Running away with the district title. If you continue to improve perhaps an upset of Hendersonville or Brentwood in a sectional match. Best of luck.
  7. How did the Blackman scrimmage go on Saturday?
  8. Loosing 7 total 2 starters 2 ACL injuries mid-way through year 3 off bench
  9. Prescott Named OAC Women's Soccer Player the Week (AUSTINTOWN, Ohio)--Capital University freshman midfielder Paige Prescott (Murfreesboro, Tenn./Siegel) was named Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week. Prescott scored two goals last week with one in a 3-0 win over Marietta and another that turned out to be the game-winner in a 1-0 win over cross-town rival Otterbein last week. On the season, Prescott has three goals as she has started all 16 of Capital's games this season. The Crusaders are 11-4-1 overall and in second place in the OAC with a 6-1 record. Capital is home for its final two regular season matches this week, Tuesday at 4 p.m. against Muskingum and Friday at 4:30 p.m. against Ohio Northern. Capital playing in the conference finals on Saturday...GO PAIGE!!!
  10. So glad to get a TN team in this ranking!!! Congrats Collierville and thanks for Stephanie Surgener! What a classy young lady and steadfast player!!! Played St. John's College Prep earlier in the year and ...wow...anyone at the PJPII play day will attest to the skilz that this team possessed. An Allstar team from TN would have been tested by this team.
  11. Siegel at Cleveland Time: 6:30 EST Location: Lee University
  12. Might be a little sensitive right now but... Nobody is getting away with anything here. And if any coach is consistently demonstrating any kind of profane language, then that coach should be delt with by their adminstration. Personally, if I slip as a coach, which happens occassionally, I have to run as well. This is very effective in making me monitor my language! ***TSSAA rule - Straight red cards get a two game suspension this year.
  13. These are the rules that may apply to the situation: Section 8 : Misconduct Article 1. A player, coach, or bench personnel shall be cautioned (yellow card) for: d. any incidental use of vulgar or profane language Article 3: Taunting - A player, coach, or bench personnel shall be disqualified (red card) for: b. taunting - use of word or act to incite or degrade an opposing player, coach, referee or other individual f. using insulting, offensive or abusive language or gesture While I strongly agree that profane language should not be tolerated... a 2 and a half game suspension seems harsh for some incidents involving profanity. If name calling is involved ... sure that is a direct verbal attack on a player/person. Personally, if a player on my team gets even a yellow for profanity they pay for it at the next practice and usually sit for the duration of the half in which the offense is committed. It is alot of responsibility for a referee to shoulder. One red card not only punishes the team playing during the match, but that player must sit an additional two matches (a 2 and a half game suspension). Regardless, teams have to regroup and move on, hopefully learning a valuable lesson in the process. It is an emotional game. Punishments should fit the offense.
  14. Wow...thought Greenville would put up more of a challenge. Any details?
  15. Easy...If I remember correctly Becca scored in at least one of the games against Siegel and at the very least had some scoring opportunities in both matches. Regardless, she has scored against many quality opponents whether she was "marked" or not. It usually takes more than one person to stop her. She is an amazing player and getting better. It only takes one play in which a defender can get side tracked and Becca will make you pay. Riverdale is not a one person team anymore. In the future, you may want to be careful commenting about games in which you did not attend. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
