We all know Varnado is only one player just like Evans is only one player. Each team has their valuable component. We have other players who step up to. Lee Liggins is a senior who brings big game experience. He is a proven scorer. Ricky Taylor has been playing aggressive down the stretch. Harrison Jones is a tall athletic player who is able to rebound, score if he has to, pass and handle the ball well. Kenny Greer is tough as nails and wont back down from anyone. Brooks Russell is physical coming off the bench also. Our sixth man Shaveon Comage can flat foot score. He was the MVP of the District Tournament. Remember the fact that he made 8 or 9 threes against USJ earlier this year. He regularly comes of the bench and gets 20 points. So Haywood is VERY dangerous!!! The fact that no one believes they can make it MOTIVATES them too!!!

Galilee, I think I want to see this matchup as much as I want to see Haywood and Liberty. I will be arriving early to make sure I see this one.

I know one thing for a fact. It is extrememly hard for a team to go to Murfreesboro for the first time and win the whole thing. Even the best of teams seem to be a little tense when playing in the state tournament for the first time. We have some players on our team that have been there 2 or 3 times already. Something is to be said about this game experience. Every game that Liberty has won from the regional semi-finals to now puts them in unchartered territory. So dont think that the game will be easy for them to win by any means. I think it will be a dogfight. Varnado and Liggins will be going for the third year in a row. These guys want to be the ones to bring home the ball that this community wants. Comage is making his second trip and is playing well right now. The young guys: Taylor, Jones, and Greer are also well seasoned young guys. All of them played AAU basketball this summer and played in places such as Cameron Indoor and the Dean Dome. These guys are mature beyond their years and are hungry too. So we will just have to wait until the 16th to see what happens.

Firefulmer, I looked at the Jackson Sun a minute ago. I cant believe that we made the front page. We also had two pictures and one was in color WOOHOO that has to be a record. The only reason that happened is because Bolivar was playing in Nashville and the reporters didnt feel like traveling or something. LOL Happy to be going back to Murfreesboro again. Liberty better be ready because the guys seem to have a fire in their eyes. None of them even really celebrated after the game. They were all saying they are not happy just to be going back, they are going back to try to win it.

Look at the schedule and tell me what you think then. Haywood starts 3 sophs. too, a sophmore PG, SF, and PF.

Galilee, Congrats to your team. Some people have a hard time taking a whooping. When you give them you have to be prepared to take them. So dont worry about what people say. Since everyone is saying they would like to see a Liberty-Bolivar matchup, Ill go with the "underdogs" here and say I would like to see a Mitchell-Haywood matchup for the championship. So Liberty gets there for the first time and everyone is already looking over teams like Haywood. You guys are skipping over two games to a possible rematch with Bolivar. Both of those teams could possibly be gone in the first round. No cakewalks for Bolivar or Liberty to get to the finals.

Baseballa, I think you need to take into account the fact that was our fourth time playing them this year. Correct me if Im wrong but after 3 tries this year you guys finally beat Bolivar. Seems to me no one is going to lay down and let you just beat them four times in a row. With a 7 or 8 or 9 and 20 something record looks like they have had a lot of off nights. We beat this same team by a score of 70 something to 30 something at Christmas. Now they say they had 2 or 3 guys that they didnt have then and same result. The guy that scored 31 on Mitchell might have gotten double figures tonite.

Smart man you called it just like it was. We must even wake up from the best dreams. 93-63 sounds like a nightmare to me. Honestly though, what does this say about the level of competition in Memphis now. Memphis is not head and shoulders above the rest of West TN. like they used to be. They beat a number 1 seed, a number 2 seed, and play Mitchell within four points, then they come to our gym and get beat like a drum. This game was over before it started good. The reason Im saying it like this is because some of those guys on that team even had the nerve to be cocky and were lucky just to be still playing.

Fulmer, I cant believe that you said you feel as if though you are the underdogs to Liberty because of the Jackson Sun. The Jackson Sun acts like Bolivar is a part of Jackson. Bolivar gets front page coverage almost daily. Take today for instance, the picture of Willie Kemp is HUGE and look at the small pics of Liberty. We beat Bolivar earlier in the year and the Sun didnt run a story on it for two or three days. Galilee, I feel you on the underdog thing too. It doesnt make a difference who we play or how many games we win, we never get mentioned as one of the great teams. Name me a program, besides the obivous Bolivar, around that has been to the substate five years in a row. Has won three of those and trying to win the fourth tonite. Has gone to state three years in a row and trying for four. Has beat teams such as Raleigh Egypt (went to Memphis and did that), Hillcrest when they had the Colorado signee, and Mitchell last year. Here we are again with four losses ( two to Liberty, one to Bolivar, and one to Union City). Arent those teams still playing right now. We did beat Union City and Bolivar this year too. But you dont hear the Haywood Tomcats mentioned on here much. LET'S GO HAYWOOD!!!

Thanks for having some faith in the Tomcats. Dont know what we have to do to get respect on this board. Four losses this year. All of them to teams that will be playing tonight. How many teams can say that. Two to Liberty, one to Bolivar and we beat Bolivar and one to a very scrappy Union City team. OC, You must did not attend that thrashing of Obion County in the regional. You saw talent then too didnt you. Memphis is not the only place with top notch talent these days.

You are supposed to wonder about the games. Nothing is given to any team out there. Bolivar as well as the rest of the teams left playing have to go out and play the games to get to Murfreesboro. Look at Hillcrest, they are still playing at this time of year and they have a losing record. They beat a number 1 and number 2 seed in the regional tournament. They also played Mitchell tough and only lost to them by a few points. The cliche is so true this time of year you have to play the games you cant win them on paper. On paper last year, Mitchell was better than Haywood. What happened to them? No disrespect to Mitchell just using them as an example. On paper last year, we were better than MLK. What happened to us? So you are right for wondering about the game. Even Coach Rudesill has to be wondering.

You know how the atmosphere in there will be Monday though. You have experienced it firsthand. It will not be a pleasant place for Hillcrest. No one takes anyone lightly at this time of year. You have to beat someone to still be playing. That suffocating defense will have to step it up. Jarvis is one of the best shot blockers I have ever seen. Did you by chance see the flyswaters? Yeah that is easier said than done. Problem is a lot of those guys dont think well under pressure. They had a chance to foul with about 28 seconds or so on the clock and let the clock run down to about 7 or 8 seconds before they fouled. What were they thinking? The coach should have had sense enough to tell them to foul. If he didnt they should have known to foul. Small things like that keep you out of Murfreesboro. Galilee, good luck to Mitchell on Monday.
