  1. Coach Young would be the best man for the baseball job by far! The man knows his baseball, and if discipline is wanted at EHS, then he is definitely the man to help there as well.
  2. I dont think personally that metal bats are a problem in little league and in that age group. However, with that said metal bats need to be forbidden in high school play, and definitely in college baseball. I've witnessed first hand what a metal bat could do when our teammate last year was struck in the face when we were playing at Augusta State, and ended his career and luckily not his life. It is not safe, and it can definitely cause a lot of damage. The problem with them is the jump ratio of what the ball comes off. The ball usually comes off of a metal bat on a 1-1/3 ratio. Which means if you have a guy throwing 88-90, the ball will come off the bat anywhere from 120-130. From 60'6" this spells nothing but disaster. Now the ball will also come off a wooden bat hard, but not at that quick of a speed. I think it would be better baseball if wooden bats were implemented, and personally it would get rid of those danged metal bat duck fart singles.
  3. Well I honestly doubt that that person is from Morristown, most of the time our punk "friends" ain Jefferson county like to get on and make a stir. And as far as the student section going over to the other side of the field...you have to realize that most of those guys that are in the west student section wouldnt know what to do with a football if it was rolled out to them. So its sad when a bunch of unathletic cowards make west look like a classless program. There is not a true west fan anywhere that does not have the utmost respect for maryville and their program, myself included. So please don't base your opinions of Morristown West on those few bad apples.
  4. Ok first things first....ANYONE that bashes Maryville for this loss knows nothing about football. This was one of the greatest football games I've witnessed and would have felt the same way even if Maryville would have won. West played a great game and so did Maryvile. It was a hard fought game and a clean game. Maryville is a class act and a class program, and I hope the Trojans can bring the gold ball back to East Tennessee. But any bashing of either team would deserve getting taken behind the shed. But i personally would like to congratulate Maryville on a great season, and look forward to renewing the new rivalry next year! and that's coming from a west high fan and alum. GREAT JOB TROJANS!!! Bring the ball back to MoTown!!!
  5. Jerry Thompson @ Morristown West. Best Defensive coordinator in the state. ANY CLASSIFICATION!
  6. I think that this game will be much closer than what everyone expects. But i still see that West will pull this one out in the end. The main reason is the depth of the West team. I agree that East has just as much talent in key areas as West does, but West wears down many teams that dont have the depth...like East. But you can almost bet your butt it will be close...cuz I dont care if its East vs. West underwater basketweaving...its always a close match in any sport.
  7. I agree, not all of us West Fans and alums think this way. But i will throw in one thing about West after these losses they have had early in the season...it has made them taste the bitter taste of defeat that West teams of the past have not experienced. Now don't get me wrong, losing stinks, but when It's done early in the season it sometimes can light a fire under some teams butts. For instance, any Maryville fan can attest that losing at home to West 2 years ago was a big boost in the rest of their state championship season. It makes a team realize that they are vulnerable, and that if they don't play their best they can and will get beat. Also, Coach Woods works very well with his team under adversity. So I wouldn't count out the Trojans, maybe these early non-conference losses will make them hungrier and bring a gold ball back to Motown. But first they have to take it one game at a time...and of course beat the three time champs. I am just interested to see how West finishes out the season after these losses, hopefully like Maryville did two years ago.
  8. School has been alright so far, luckily we start fall practice tomorrow and no longer doing conditioning for a while.
  9. Jiveturkey- JPATS also has a loving wife that posts for him sometimes when someone mistreats him. And why would anyone be jealous of Jeff COunty...they win once in 6 years..and we are supposed to bow down to him. And by the way...no one cares what Brian Trent writes...fairweather fans and traitors dont get a chance at freedom of speech.
  10. I was at the game and it was one of those games you hated to see come to an end. With that said...I would have to say that Jefferson County and their coaching staff were utterly and completely CLASSLESS! Coach Woods and his staff showed what class is, but then again...they do that on every other Friday night of the year. Coach Woods is a class act, and so are majority of the Trojans. Now I'm not saying that Jeff co. doesnt have all classless players, what happened last night I blame mostly on the coaching staff. But this was a great game all the way to the end, but someone needs to teach the Patriots a little about class.

    God and football

This country was not founded on Islamic or Buddhists principles. If it offends anyone of that religion then all they have to do is bow their head at that time and pray to whoever it is they pray too and tune out the prayer over the PA...or they could go back to wherever they came from. Since when in America do we listen to the minority over the majority??
  12. This topic should also be about some "fairweather" fans as sportswriters. We in Mo-town know who were the best writers for the 'Bune. It seems loyalty is not a word some people know, especially when it comes to your own alma mater.
  13. Jpats is either still out in his own little dream world...or out getting his rabies vaccination which is long overdue.
  14. Cuz...come out from behind the name...what is your name and when did you graduate??? Hater
  15. The main problem with the Morristown East athletic program lies simply within the head prinicipal. Enough Said.
  16. Overrated farragut- Come down to CN any day of the week and get in the box.
  17. This is by far the dumbest post I have ever read in my life. Calling a team that has went 45-1 is a farce. Baseball is a funny game, and the ball can bounce in any different direction, and the face of a game can be changed in one inning to decide a game. Farragut is a great team, and they have a great program. The things that Coach Pharr does with the team and field should be modeled after, and is by some teams across the state. I just cant believe some people will post stuff just to get attention, so I'm gonna cut this short. It's obvious you havent ever played ball in your life, because you dont understand the game or how it is played. I wish Farragut all the luck in the world...just not tomorrow night! P.S. I'm a Morristown West alum and former baseball player
  18. HV- Hope your sister is doing better. My thoughts and prayers are with her and your family! You do a great job on your site, keep up the good work!
  19. I understand that, but they do that throwing and running before the game that they play first base. This is high school, but you still can use that routine because most high schools have maybe 3-4 games per week tops. Give and take a few for rain, and some tournaments. But I think teams can find a 3 man rotation, and the days off in between the pitchers can do their running and light pens at practice. I just believe in throwing a little everyday, and alot of running. It's worked for me so far in my career
  20. 3-4 is plenty. The next day he should run to help work out the soreness and a light toss. Then the next day should be a short pen or toss session, then a longtoss the next day. The 4th day of rest should be then a light pen to work on mechanics and working on hitting spots at about 50-75%. Then they should be back out there ready to toe the rubber again. This all is subject to change by the pitcher, and how many pitches was thrown in the game. If he threw a 125 pitch seven inning game, four days rest would probably be needed. But if he goes out there and throws a 65 pitch gem, then 2-3 days rest would be enough. Just depends on the player, and there work ethic.
  21. The rotator cuff exercises can be done by laying on the right side of your body (Right handed throwers) and curling a 5 pound dumbbellinto your chest. Then lay on the left side of your body and curl the arm away from the body. Usually 25 of those are enough. Then with a dumbbell in each hand stand with your hands in front of your body and lift straight up with the arms rmaining locked. Then put your arms down to your side and lift your arms slowly as if you are making a flying motion with your arms. The key is to do them slowly. The last and best one is the empty can stretch. Put the dumbells down to the side of your body and turn your thumbs down and inward towards your belt buckle. Then lift in a diagonal motion as if pouring water out of a can. Do about 25 of all of these. You can also use elastic bands to stretch out the shoulder. Put the arm at a 90 degree angle and pull down slowly and back up slowly to the 90 degree angle. I hope this has been of help, but if you want visuals I'm sure there are pics on the internet, or once again Leo Mazzone's book shows them all.
  22. The best things to do are proper stretching, rotator cuff workouts, and throw everyday. Do some sort of throwing everyday. As far as pitchers go, long tossing 2-3 times per week with 2-3 pen days. 1 of those pens needs to be lengthy, with the other 1 or 2 being a light mechanics session. Leo Mazzone of the Braves has a great book for workouts and stretching for pitchers that I think every pitcher and pitching coach should have...Pitch Like A Pro. Great reading.
  23. Yea went in and finished it out in the third inning two days after a complete game win. Kevy boy...go cover some Rutledge sports tamitch and quit playing on the computer.
  24. If anyone is interested in playing travel baseball for the ages of 12-14, respond to this message or email me. Myself and another baseball player at Carson Newman College coach a team out of Morristown, and are looking for more players to play this summer. This will be our second full season. Some games this summer will be played in Knoxville, Oak Ridge, and Nashville. So if you or your child are interested, respond or email me about a tryout. Practices are usually 3 times a week as of right now, and later on towards the end of our baseball season at CN. Thanks. justinhite@hotmail.com [Edited by JHITE7 on 2-27-03 5:03P]
  25. Dougherty went to Old Dominion trucking industry, not Old Dominion U. The team does have alot of pitchers back this year, but throwing strikes and consistency will have to be a must for them. Coach Haun, Coach Stansberry, and Coach Ayers should have this team ready to go. They should be a good hitting team, and solid defensively. As far as the East game, you can throw ability level and past season out the window, it's always a dog fight. Best of luck to the Trojans this year.
